The Stock Check – Gameweek 26 – Monday

Jamie Vardy resumes the party as Leicester City revive their title-winning performance levels to run Liverpool ragged, while Philippe Coutinho provides the only bright spark for the humbled Reds.

On the Rise

Jamie Vardy
The hat-trick in Gameweek 15 against Manchester City came from nowhere and, several months later, Vardy again seemingly plucked a performance from thin air to blitz Liverpool.

Chasing and hassling throughout, the hunger and energy was back in Vardy’s game. But that was coupled with two clinical finishes, reminiscent of his 24-goal title-winning campaign.

In Fantasy terms, our interest remains on ice. Judgement on any potential Leicester City revival has to be reserved until we assess them against Marco Silva’s Hull City, a team that will surely be more savvy to the Foxes’ ploys, shutting down the space behind their defence to limit Vardy’s impact.

A full-blown renaissance would be a major development which could possibly unlock Vardy and accompanying Leicester assets as options.

But priced at 9.6, Vardy would remain a major investment risk given the stability and consistency now on offer from the “big four” strikers.

Christian Fuchs
A superb assist, two chances created overall and a pair of attempts on goal – Fuchs was another to roll back to his 2015/16 form, reminding us of what might have been.

Returning four assists and 15 clean sheets last term, the Austrian was a powerful asset and, like Patrick van Aanholt for Sunderland in 2015/16, always our go-to option when the fixtures lent themselves to Leicester defensive investment.

Monday’s display suggested that this could be the case again, as he powered down the flank to support his winger, with Riyad Mahrez and Marc Albrighton swapping throughout.

A King Power Stadium double-header approaches that brings both Stoke City and Sunderland over Gameweeks 30-31 and may yet see the Leicester rearguard make a late claim for consideration.

Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian was another asset to emerge from Monday’s clash offering the suggestion of a revival.

Previously established as our preferred route into Liverpool’s midfield, Coutinho had been de-railed by an injury and then superseded by team-mates.

Sadio Mane went into Monday’s encounter acquired by more than 366,000 new owners and with 111,000+ armband backers.

But while the Senegalese huffed and puffed without effect to be replaced, along with Adam Lallana, on 66 minutes, it was left to Coutinho to drag Liverpool back into the match.

He obliged with a second-half strike that was to prove academic. However, it still marked Coutinho’s first goal and attacking points since the Gameweek 11, ending a run of eight appearances and seven starts without returns.

Perhaps more significantly, Coutinho amassed a total of six efforts on goal, three from inside the box – more than any other midfielder in Gameweek 26 and tied with Harry Kane and Christian Benteke overall.

In terms of goal threat, it equalled Coutinho’s best performances of the season – indication perhaps that another power shift in the Reds’ midfield is imminent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Bit random but fabregas looks such a tempting budget pick. His points to minute ratio is quite ridiculous, he averages a point every 9.7 minutes. Would also be considering pedro but he only seems to get points at home.

I am trying to prepare my team for the post-blank-gameweeks period and for the coming doubles.

    How does this look:

    Pickford, Valdes
    Alonso, Valencia, Yoshida, Chambers, Kone
    Sanchez, Eriksen, Coutinho, Siggy, Capoue
    Ibra, Costa, Gabbiadini

    0.2 left itB

Most of those will probably rise soon, so I will probably have to use my WC just before GW29.

    How does it look?

Capoue out for Carroll and Stephens in for Kone then upgrade Yoshisda with the cash

Looks excellent with every player set for doubles except Siggy. Question is will they be fit or in form at time of DGW? Which games will form part of the doubles etc. I like the planning. WC in GW 29 seems popular with community but too many unknowns to burn a chip in that fashion. Although, it could pay off as a bit of a gamble. Prices rise and fall, don't let it force you into a transfer. Trying to ignore the market more in the second half of this season.

I've been working on a plan for which I would need about 3 Hits to get the backbone of a solid DGW team that I hope will have Sanchez as triple cap. After which I will wait for second DGW, WC before that and use BB in DGW.

Yes, that is the question. I don't like breaking my team apart to plan for 5-9 weeks ahead but maybe I won't have any other choice.

I keep hearing how team value isn't very important, but I barely managed to accommodate this team above and even it isn't very good (especially in defense). I think certain players will be a must for the double gameweeks such as Sanchez and Ibra, who will have two extra games and they were pretty much essential even before. Their price will only rise after GW29 (perhaps immediately). Gabbiadini will also rise, probably even before next gameweek, and could be even around 7.0 by GW 29(which will render my whole planning meaningless, since I can barely afford him as it is).

This season there just aren't any reliable cheap options in midfield and attack, which makes TV much more important.

    Heaton (Pickford)

B for me, Lukaku plays in GW28 so I would keep

2 City players if they have a double seem ideal

Similar front 7 to my team (I have Kane not Ibra) and I am doing B I think with view to Sterling to Barkley in week 28 (would just have done Costa to Aguero but cannot afford

He's third in the pecking order after Jesus came in, but definitely still there

With the number of games they have in the coming 20 days, we would see a fair bit of him I'd assume

One would say Kelechi, although when Aguero was out and Jesus wasn't here Kelechi only got one start.

Pep looked at other options. If Aguero injured I'd get Sane & Sterling.

Providing City have a DGW. Is the following worth a -8pt?

Sanchez, Phillips, Costa to Sterling, Siggy, Aguero

Costa and Sanchez could easily both score this week. If you think Sterling and Aguero will score 20+ point between them, then yes. I wouldn't do Siggy on top, just wait until next week.

Might as well do Siggy this week if he's gonna come in next week anyway. Good future to help pay off the hit this week.

Everyone is saying it's unlikely we'll get a better combination of fixtures for a double than City's, but I do think we can get both of the following:

    A player in better form
A team with less spread points, or a more obvious focal point at least

Sanchez, Ibra and to an extent Kane, are all likely to offer this. Maybe slightly worse fixtures than City's coming up, but Spurs will have CPL and Arsenal will have LEI/sou as one half of theirs. Man U have Southampton again where Ibra just bagged a brace.

I think I have to bring in Aguero to cover others in my league (who will take a hit to bring him in), but I won't be TCing.

I say just leave them to it. Up to then if they want to tc Kun.

This is true but you also need to consider that TC in DGW37 isn't an option if you want to use BB that week.

Sure, but there will be one or two other double gameweeks to choose from too.

Aguero hasn't shown form, but admittedly Citi have. However, Sterling, Sane, De Bruyne, Silva, and even Yaya can all get in on the points there. Aguero is their 3rd highest point scorer.

Arsenal - Sanchez has 78 points more than next best (Kos) and 80 more than next best attacker (Ozil). Then you only have maybe Walcott, Iwobi and Giroud (if playing) as options.

MU - Ibra is 54 points ahead as leading scorer, then you have Pogba/Mata/Mikhi as the other really inconsistent options.

Spurs - Kane doesn't dominate here, but at least you know it's a 1/3 chance with Eriksen and Alli. They all score from each others' assists.

Your odds are better going with any of the above.

The thing is...how many chips each of us have.
If u still have WC and BB, it starts to get tricky finding the right GW for each.
TC on Kun is a good option, assuming you save the BB for the mega37

On 34 you will rely on TC for a Chelsea or United player:

      Haz (SOU + WAT)
      Ibra (bur+sou)

What's up with Howe and Stanislas? Anybody know? Hands down better than most the players playing let alone the dross who's been subbed ahead of him. Not that I've got him in my squad and desperately want Eddie Mr. Charisma Howe to read this and include him week 28 to save me another signing.

So I need to fix my team for 28 like everybody else:

    Grant (Jakupovic)
    Walker Alonso Brunt (Kingsley Holgate)
Alli Mané Eriksen Philips (De Roon)
    Defoe Costa Lukaku.

Thinking of doing Alli --> Siggy and Walker --> Coleman this week for -4, and next week probably Costa/Alonso for something with -4.

    Thinking doing the following

    Gw27
    Lukaku Hazard out
    Aguero Sterling In

DGW players Pieters Sterling Aguero no hits

    Gw28
    Aguero Sterling Alli out
    Lukaku Coutinho Mane In -4

Which will give me 8 players playing GW28

    Thoughts?
