Coleman Suffers Cruel Leg Break

It has been confirmed that Everton’s Seamus Coleman has suffered a broken leg playing for the Republic of Ireland against Wales in Friday’s World Cup Qualifier, following a horrific challenge by Aston Villa’s Neil Taylor.

The full-back was stretchered from the field on 72 minutes with his with the Irish physios attempting to hold his lower-right leg in position. Post-match is was confirmed that Coleman had been taken to hospital with a break.

A key Fantasy asset, Coleman is currently owned by over 851,000 (19.3%) Fantasy Premier League managers having provided a consistent stream of recent returns. The full-back has produced a goal, assist or clean sheet in nine of his last ten Gameweeks.

He will be huge loss to Everton and the Republic of Ireland and we can only wish the player a speedy recovery.

From a Fantasy perspective, his absence will likely see Everton boss Ronald Koeman turn to 20-year-old Mason Holgate, priced at 4.0, to fill the significant void at right-back.

Elsewhere, Coleman’s sales will no doubt lead to heavy investment in Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia ahead of his double Gameweek 34.

Spurs’ Kyle Walker would also become a popular target for Coleman’s current owners, along with Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand; the Saints left-back has produced four assists in his last five outings and will enjoy 11 fixtures over his final nine Gameweeks.

Regardless, tonight our thoughts are with the Everton man – a player who will undoubtedly figure in our squads as key asset on his return to the pitch.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Play Naughton(MID) or Walker in for a hit? I know no one likes hits for defenders but it is somewhat of a long term move

Out of the two I'd go Walker but Vert is an option and you could even wait for Rose.

Does anybody have news about Jesus? I have a horrible feeling that Lukaku will now suffer because Coleman isn't in the team. In which case, I'd like to have a front 3 of Jesus, Kane and Aguero. Any inside info would be much appreciated.

He's still injured for the next few week, and if he were playing I doubt Aguero would be too

Maybe, maybe not. He may play him on the right and play Aguero up front. You can never double guess Pep.

Not sure that's true. There are a couple of mentions in reasonably reliable sources. Doesn't seem to have been a major player (as it were) at the time though - 'little' bit of myth making gone into that one.

Jesus and Aguero wouldn't make much sense when fit it seems ul=nlikely they will both be in the man city lineup.

I think Jesus is one for next season to be fair. Hopefully he doesn't come back and do much so we can get him for a decent price next year

Valencia is someone I have to get it soon enough though, have my eye on Fuchs and Bertrand too. I am fortunate enough to have 0.3m value on Coleman too so can afford a few drops.

We see these straight red tackles all the time. They are one of the most dangerous things in sport. Certainly the most dangerous thing on a football pitch. People only react to them when they end badly, otherwise they feel bad for the guy getting the ban. Id rather suarez have a nibble on me than one of these freaky strong guys fly in studs up at my shin.
I see a lot of horror leg injuries in muay thai. Football is worse.

Calling it ridiculous is unfair. He's making a point about suspensions not taking into account the injury inflicted. For example if one player punched another then they could be looking at a 4 or 5 game ban, whereas a leg breaking tackle would be 3 games. The punched player dusts himself off and plays the following week, whereas the guy who's leg has been broken is out for a year.

A poorly executed tackle that was almost a 50/50 is not the same as biting or punching someone. It is a ridiculous comparison

I'm aware how the system works and that it won't change. The original poster was commenting on the difference in bans between the different injuries sustained and you called him ridiculous, which was unfair.

I said comparing the length of ban for a bite with a dangerous tackle is ridiculous and I'll always argue that. I argued with a Villa fan that said the ban for Bacuna chest bumping a linesman didn't deserve a long ban compared to Taylor tackle. Ridiculous. Both lengthy bans for bringing the game into disrepute. Taylor tackle was shocking but not intentionally vicious a la Kevin Muscat

See below, im not. It was a straight red tackle. The law is simple. Neither intent nor outcome factor. The difference between a yellow and a red is the difference between reckless and dangerous.

Cheers, but more nuanced. Its the injury that needs to be taken into account but the potential for serious injury. Taylor and coleman were unlucky on the outcome, but this is why studs up dangerous tackles are as bad as it gets. What suarez did was all kinds of weird but there was zero risk of serious damage

I've not seen it but many have said Bale tackle earlier was essentially worse. Should he receive a ban?

Haven't seen it but any tackle as bad or worse than that should be red and ban of course. Intent and outcome dont matter, just how dangerous. Intent could affect ban length though

Kun and Taylor not comparable. Kun was malicious. Taylor more poor decision. I did a Gascoigne at 7 a side this week. Stupid instinct stuck out leg tackle and screwed my knee. I knew half way through that it was stupid but couldn't pull out

As long as you're respectful about the Coleman issue no harm done, someone had mentioned that Holgate had played the first 3 Coleman was out at the start of the season, they also have another young lad too, his name slips my mind though.

Not too soon to ask at all. Think it's Holegate but he did get hauled off at h/t @STO and hasn't started since. If RK trusts him in these tough games it's his spot to lose. If not then FM will probably come back somewhere.

Lukaku's returns could significantly diminish without Coleman in the team, the width he provides is keep to them stretching out defences, unless Baines becomes an attacking fixture again. Speaking of Baines, it's been a while since I saw him score a free kick, used to do it every other week.

There's been a raging debate about it. From the 1 angle I watched it I reckon both were attacking it. It was reckless by Naylor but it was the impact of both going at speed that did it. You can see these challenges every week and nothing happens.
It was just bad luck and I bet Naylor feels dreadful about it.

It's the degree of damage isn't it? We've all played football and gone in "a bit hard", but I doubt many of us have gone in to break a leg.

There will be people who say it's inevitable that this type of challenge will break legs and the punishment must be severe to stop it, we've seen them post.
Football's a funny game though, it's easier to be a critic than to understand the spirit and yes teh aggression is part of what makes it such a great and sometimes sad game.

Thts why i am getting a little confused. There are only 4 options when creating H2H league.
            1) Name
            2) Gameweek Scoring
            3) maximum number of teams

Thanks Werkself. Now I have 2 daughters and a wife I am treating myself to a shed

Seriously though I am very proud of my girls. (still think it may be good to escape to the shed)

            As you should be. I've got a son - 21 y/o. I'm afraid if I had 2 daughters I'd have gone grey 10 years earlier. But I don't have a shed...

I am trying to get as big a shed as possible. Pleus expanding the capacity of our wifi so I can hide in the shed.

                1. You can't hide - they will find you.
                2. When they become teenagers they will take over the shed. Just sayin'.

I might get something which will repel them. Maybe get some chickens to nest there

Are you serious? That like buying a child magnet.

One they are teenagers the last thing that will interest them is a chicken

Could you do Tadic & Deeney > Alli/Eriksen & Barnes? Think you need some Spurs attack. Although if Tadic & Deeney do well you would shoot up the ranks as not many would have them i bet. I wonder will Costa be as consistent for the last 10 games of FPL season... I have no chelsea attack at the min but not overly worried as think they might not be as free scoring now... Could be totally wrong though!

That doesn't feel like a good move to me

Coleman is a big blow to many fantasy managers. I was planning on holding till the end of the season. I wish him a good speedy recovery.

My dilemma now is having DeGea. Worth doubling in United defence and getting Valencia? Have Davies and Alonso.

Plan was to bench Coleman for Mawson in gw30. I don't fancy Southampton defenders and no other team stands out to me.

Just get Valencia and go with the flow?

Yep, or you can try Rojo as a differential 😉

Its an opportunity not a blow considering ownership.
Valencia is a no brainer mate. Great pick. doesn't matter who your gk is

Which defender barring Valencia would you want in your team from now till the end of the season? Keeping in mind the dgws.

      Ideally one with multiple DGW's.

Arsenal are the only team with half decent fixtures and 2 DGW's so Koscielny.
