Fantasy Euros U21 Launches

The Under-21 Euros are starting  but while UEFA has let us down this year with no game our Polish friends are doing a good job covering.

An English version of the Polish Fantasy game for the event can be found here, where you can also find more details about the rules and scoring system.

In addition, a FFScout league has been created (code: 575933631).

The tournament is played in Poland and will have 12 teams competing from June 16-30. Teams are divided into three groups of four, with the group winners and the best runner up progressing to the semi-finals.

The deadline for initial selection of squads will be June 16, 5pm UK time, which is also the kick-off of first game, Sweden v England.

A quick glance through the rules tells us that we have unlimited transfers between each round, which means that bench cover is not very important, as long as you try to pick nailed players.

Players earn two points for winning a match so you want to be targeting big teams, while adding a few cheaper players from smaller teams to stay inside your budget.

Selecting your squad

As always U21 squads change a lot with players getting promoted to the national teams. Some teams have got their big stars back for this tournament, so predicting lineups for the first games can be a bit tricky.

Goalkeepers

Stoppers earn minus points for goals conceded and don’t earn any save points so going safe with a goalkeeper from one of the big teams is advisable. Gianluigi Donnarumma (9m, Italy) is priced very highly so instead perhaps consider Julian Pollersbeck (7.5m, Germany) or Everton bound Jordan Pickford (7m, England). Portugal’s goalkeepers have a big gap in price so there could be a potential bargain there, but without confirmation of their number 1 it may be best to wait.

Defenders

Defenders also earn minus points for goals conceded, but get four points for an assist. This has been noticed by many and it is no surprise that Hector Bellerin (8m, Spain) is the most popular defender. Other targets include two experienced attacking right-backs who have both also played as wingers for their clubs this season, Joao Cancelo (8m, Portugal) and Andrea Conti (7.5m, Italy). For other defenders look out for tonight’s England XI to see if any of the cheaper players get a start.

Midfielders

The highest priced midfielders include Saul Niguez (9.5m, Spain) and Renato Sanchez (9m, Portugal), who are very well-known but play in a deep midfield role and are not known for their scoring. Marco Asensio (9m, Spain) and Serge Gnabry (8.5m, Germany) are classified as midfielders but expected to play as wingers so may be better options.  Also consider Lewis Baker (England, 7.5m) and Portuguese duo Bruno Fernandes (8.5m) and Joao Carvalho (7.5m).

Strikers

There is already a template attacking trio forming with Gerard Deulofeu (8.5m, Spain), Davie Selke (8.5m, Germany) and Patrik Schick (4.5m, Czech). All of these players did very well in qualifiers and are expected to continue where they left off. If you call yourself a maverick and want something different, then look for the two Italian Serie A big hitters, Federico Bernardeschi (8.5m) and Domenico Berardi (8m). Neither has an impressive record in the U21 but coming from one of the toughest leagues in Europe to play with kids, could mean a lot of points. England’s Tammy Abraham (6.5m), who is a loan target for both Newcastle and Brighton, could be another budget option if he starts tonight.

Here is a link to an earlier hot topic where you can find more information to help you with your selection,

I’ll be sure to keep a close eye on all different foreign websites for late news on lineups.

      Ashley 'Inaki' Williams

Another Everton player getting in the act. Strange that he is eligible to play for U-21's and for Spain of all teams 😉

      Last round getting trickier.

Spain will probably put out a B team, but there should still be some points in offer with fringe players wanting to impress. Inaki Williams could be good shout, Denis Suarez too.

So Spain already through and Fernandes suspended. Picking a team, and especially the midfield, just became a lot more difficult.

Even though Portugal are out if Germany and Italy decides to play it cynically, they need to win themselves to stand any chance, so I will triple up on them as they face Macedonia. Likely loading up on England too as they also need to win, and Poland has been far from convincing.

But from there, I'm not really sure where to go.

          Wrong.
          Sweden win.
          England Lose, we go through.
England draw, goal differance comes in to play.
Poland also need a win and then pray for right result in Swe-Slo game.

Sweden will be without Tibbling(injured against poland) though, one of 2 key players.
Tankovic very likely to take his place. Which means 3 out of the 4 mids will have background in my hometown team.
I would have liked to see the 4th place also taken by a Norrköping player(Eliasson).
Think we will win in any case.

Rank went from 8 to 25. Need better defensive performances from Italy and Germany.

Could be a good day for people who anticipated a good week for attack 15 goals in 4 games.

Expect at least 5 in last 2.

I've got two Italy and two Germans left. I've got high hopes for both teams. Think Germany may concede but will easily win. Italy to win 2-0

Next round we'll get to see 4 teamsheets before the deadline. Just a shame Portugal and Spain don't play on the first day.

Caldara didn't train yesterday due to muscle fatigue and is a doubt for today.

Stark got some kind of injury also in the previous game and they're optimistic but not sure, as of yesterday, if he will make it.

Man I'll be so annoyed if he doesn't feature. Semi-differential.

Worst part is the positition-by-position-autosubbing. Means I'll be left with 10 players. In an FPL world I would get Schick off the bench.

Genuinely considering a strong bench for GW3 to cover for injuries/possible Spain-rotation. Chilwell-Rusnak-Schick for example.

Best runner-up from Best runner-up plays Other semi-final
Group A Winner Group B Winner Group A vs Winner Group C
Group B Winner Group A Winner Group B vs Winner Group C
Group C Winner Group A Winner Group B vs Winner Group C

So the winner of Group C (Germany or Italy) will play Spain, where as the runner-up will play most likely England. Should be an interesting game then between ITA and GER. 😀

Hmm. what players should we pick for the last round?

I would love to get 3 Spa but we don't know who will play.
3 from Eng would be smart as we will get the lineup plus 3 form Portugal and 3 form Italy as they need to win, right? And who else?

    1. Phil Dagger ⭐

They need to win doesn't mean anything to me. Yes its a motivation but I think Germany will prove too good for Italy after seeing how they played v czechs so i wont get 3 ITA for sure .

      1. Lone Wolf FPL
        • 8 Years

The point is which players are nailed. That's my thinking. I'm thinkig who to pick to my team as players like Asensio etc are a big risk.
Other tactic is to make 4-4-2 (one player each position on bench to cover every positions) and pick 15 playing players in case one won't play but that team will look a bit poor.

        1. Phil Dagger ⭐
          • 7 Years

Probably something like (rough idea )
          3 X England
          1/2 X Slovakia/Sweden

          2/3 X Portugal
          2 X Spain

          2 in Ger - Ita

          will be good

    2. Pirlø's Pen
      • 8 Years

Bit risky going for 3 Italians as they are playing Germany. I'll probably have one or 2 though. It will not be Bernadeschi though, he has been woeful for me.

I'm going for a couple of Swedes as well, will probably go in with Larrson and Olsson.

Have you any idea who will start for Spain? I'm going with Gaya & Inaki so far. Probably one of Saul and Asensio too.

      3 from Portugal is a no-brainer.
Early line-ups for the England vs Poland game will provide us with some cheap options to put on the bench.
Now, having some nailed on Eng/Pol players outside your starting XI may allow you to take some risk and get some Spaniards.
      Schick a no-brainer as well.

      1. Lone Wolf FPL

thats my thinking. If any cheap player is a starter (we will get 4 teams lineuos) than he will be on my bench plus some risk pick may be an option. So I will start planning 1h before the first games.
