Sky Sports Fantasy Football Is Back

The Sky Sports Fantasy Football game for 2017/18 was officially launched on Wednesday.

This time around, the top prize has been doubled to a substantial £50,000 – incentive enough to assemble a team in time for kick-off on August 11.

It’s also worth noting that Sky Sports have introduced a handful of tweaks to their rules and scoring system for 2017/18.

We take a look at the main implications below…

Overhaul

Without doubt, Sky Sports’ biggest bombshell for this season is the new Overhaul feature, as described in the rules section on the site:

“For 2017/18 we have introduced our new Overhaul feature. You will be able to take advantage of Overhaul twice this season; once in September and the other taking place in February. During these weeks, you will be able to make an unlimited amount of transfers but must remain within the budget of £100 million. These transfers will not come out of your 40-player transfer limit.”

Akin to FPL’s wildcard, this new feature looks set to shape the way that Fantasy managers will play the game, with initial team selection likely to be heavily focused on the opening few weeks.

By using the Members ticker feature here on Fantasy Football Scout, you can stack up on the teams with favorable fixtures from the get-go.

Captain Scheduling

One of Sky Sports’ biggest draws is the multi-captain angle and, thankfully, it’s here to stay for the season ahead.

They have, however, rolled out a scheduling feature to help Fantasy managers keep on top of mid-Gameweek swaps – you can now pick your captain for each matchday ahead of time to avoid last-minute Wi-Fi related panics.

The Scoring System

There is just one tweak here, though it’s a welcome one that should help improve the prospects of defenders.

“Defenders will now only start to receive -1 point per goal conceded after the first goal they let in.”

Shipping just one goal now means defenders hold on to their two appearance points rather than dropping to one as in previous years. Defenders from the lesser teams are therefore likely to hold more appeal than before and could begin to represent decent value for the season ahead.

Weekly Articles and Podcast

We’re delighted to announce that we will be back supporting the Sky Sports game with weekly articles again for 2017/18.

This begins with our pre-season coverage.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be providing Player Price List analysis articles, Man of the Match analysis and much more.

Also, I’ll be talking through the week’s action and upcoming plans with FFS posters Buffrey and Lewis on our regular podcast – the latest episode can be found here.

There will also be a new community article to exclusively deal with Sky Sports Fantasy teams.

Those looking to get involved should click this link.

Scout League

Of course, we have already set up our Fantasy Football Scout League and after winning the League of Leagues for each of the last four seasons, we’re looking to defend our crown in 2017/18.

Get your teams in – the name is FFScout and the pin number to join is 8300422.

Yep, fabbo enabler. Problem was that I had Lenihan (then 3.8 for max value) as my 5th sub too so I sometimes had those massive points coming off the bench 😉

Probably. Not convinced Keane is a big loss. Given how rubbish they were away from home it points to:

      1) Defensive organisation of the team generally
      2) Size of pitch at Turf Moor

Question is whether opposition will approach games at Turf Moor differently this year and whether that inhibits Burnley.

Disagree. I don't support a PL club, but even I know that the U21s of most of the PL clubs are better and have more potential than most League 1 and League 2 clubs. England is falling further behind on the international stage - if they won't let 'B' teams in the Championship then this is at least a part solution.

Looked through the last few articles but haven't seen this discussed, sorry if this horse has already been beaten!

The Premier League website put up a post giving more details on the official Draft game https://www.premierleague.com/news/427772?sf96151543

TLDR version of the post's new details:
-Draft is done in Snake format
-Public leagues will have a maximum of 8 teams, Private up to 16
-If you can't make your draft, you can set up a prioritised list
    -No Captains/VCs
    -Transfers:
--Once the draft is complete there are two ways to make Transfers (no possibility of direct trading amongst managers)
--1) Waiver Request (Closes 24 hours before a GW)
--2) Direct from Free Agent Pool (Opens 24 hours before a GW)
-Waivers - Each player submits their desired transfers, at the end of the time allotted for waivers they get automatically made, with lowest ranked team getting priority and so on

How does everyone feel about these bits of info we've been given? Happy with the lack of Captains?

I'm not sure how its handled on other Draft websites, does anyone know if the Waivers will be public or private? As in this season when Josh King started to look good, if I'm coming 1st in my league and want to get him, by me submitting a Waiver Request for him does this allow other players to know I'm interested in him? Seems like having the Waiver Requests public would give a massive disadvantage to players higher up in their leagues.

My guess is waiver requests secret

Yeah, surely waiver claims will be private - I don't see why they wouldn't be. No captains is good, don't really like them anyway personally. Not being able to trade is pretty bad, that's most of the fun and a mediocre/mid-table team has little chance to improve.

On the waiver side of things again "Any number of waiver requests can be made, if you make more than one they will need to be prioritised."

I'm guessing this means that if a league has 3 teams then 3rd will automatically get their highest priority transfer. Once that is done they go to the back of the queue and 2nd place then gets their highest priority transfer (if this player was the same as the player 3rd went for, they then get their 2nd highest priority player) and then goes to the back of the queue, finally 1st place gets their highest available priority transfer, before the whole thing starts again.

This sounds really good, they have avoided possible pitfalls. First come forst served on Waivers only happens after everyone has had the opportunity to bid for the one they want. Excellent

You can edit your draft list beforehand so no need to attend, or at least can manage without attending draft. Excellent

No captains which is great as it would have given massive advantage to person with number One pick in the draft

I don't understand why Snodgrass would end up at Sunderland. He's a good solid PL player, surely someone would want him.

West Ham are great at sucking the life out of anyone considered alright at football.

It's all gone a bit sour for Snodgrass, very fast. Burnley should have another go for him.

Lukaku cost 9 after two seasons of almost 20 goals. I don't expect Jesus to cost 10.5. Maximum of 10, I expect him to be 9.5, and may even double up on him and Aguero.

Lukaku was playing for Everton, not Manchester City.

Why would Jesus be 1m less than Lacazette? His PPG was excellent last season. Jesus at 9.5 and Aguero around 12 kills Aguero as an option too. I'm expecting 10.5m for Jesus.

FPL should be reduced to four players instead of 15. One for each position.
