The ScoutCast – Episode 227 – Lift Off

An unprecedented summer podcast arrives following the Fantasy Premier League launch, as Jonty, Andy and Luke join me in the afterglow of a joyous day.

Technically “on the beach” and fighting back to full fitness, we nonetheless brave the airwaves to chime in on the price list, reclassified players and some early formation dancing.

We glory in the potential bargains, lament the overpriced and make bold claims on our lineups that will doubtless be reversed come August 11. If Andy has Chris Brunt in his Gameweek 1 squad, I’ll eat my Free Hit chip.

The FPL Draft game gets a rinsing, and we end the show with our proud declaration of our team ID’s. A conclusion that leaves me feeling rather inadequate even before a ball has been kicked.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Wednesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Best option for the first couple of weeks?

    A) Jesus, Pogba, Ramsey
    B) Defoe, Coutinho, Sane

    Cheers!

for now we don´t know if Lukaku is the new penalty taker (he´s not the best pick imho). Could be Pogba, actually a pretty good penalty taker.

          Yeah, maybe.

The potential upside here is huge compared to the risk. If dropping 0.1 is that big a deal, it's easy to sell

Too early to call. But at this stage it appears though he may have a pretty free role in midfield with Cabaye and Mili more holding. If he looks on track to start GW1, there isn't much better at 4.5m.

We've got plenty time to see how he beds in pre-season.

If he's nailed and attacking mid, even you'll draft him in!

I can see it dropping when more non-FFS players register.

He's an aggressive pick. He might not play, but then he might start the season very well. Whereas someone like Cork or McArthur will likely deliver 2-3 points.

That is the question. Can he tackle, like McArthur? Can he dribble, like Zaha? Can he pass like Puncheon? Can he cross and score, like Townsend?

I'm not a Palace fan, but those are the questions that I would ask.

it could be the Defoe vs King conundrum, both will play most likely but King could be placed in a 10 role or even at the wing and then 7.5 is maybe a little pricey tag, and Defoe will take pens from him, and there is a lot of more options in that bracket now, and he was far more tempting as midfielder priced at below 6 than as a striker. Some possible reasons?

12.0 for a wide playing attacking mid will kill your squad. Most of Sanchez's appeal was as lone striker last season, that option has been killed by Lacazette

For those going with Lindelof, considered De Gea instead?

Similar point potential between those 2, but a few 4.5/5.0 defenders have a lot more attacking upside.

I think Lindelof will get more than DDG, the lack of attacking points remains to be seen.

Perhaps. Maybe 2 goals over the season? I don't see the value in Lindelof at all personally. (Or De Gea for that matter).

United defensive coverage is great. But there are better options at 5.5 imo

Lukaku is a tricky one. I've got Pogba in my team and he will be staying no matter what. If I try him and he fails then that's fair enough. But then. Adding Lukaku and doubling up on one of the worst attacking teams last year makes me uneasy. I played for rank last year for the first time and got inside the top 400, now I'm starting to get worried by 'ownership' and scaring myself into owning big Rom I think.

I haven't got Lukaku because he scores a Hattie one week (which does kill me when I don't have him) and then doesn't score for 4 games. So despite 25 goals last season, he was very inconsistent. However I do think Pogba and Lukaku will play well together. So having Pogba is relying on Lukaku to perform.im with you with only Pogba as I have Kane, king and Jesus

No need to go with him imo. I have him, but I'd be just as happy with Kane, Aguero, Jesus or Lacazette.

Someone talk me out of Rooney at 7.5 (Yes, I'm serious).

Even with Everton's bad fixtures, I'm genuinely considering him.

Great opening fixture (Stoke H) and likely to score in his first competitive game back at Everton.

Then Man City away who's defence wasn't great last season and Rooney's record against City is amazing.

Chelsea away third. Okay fair enough, difficult fixture

Tottenham at home. Wouldn't be a huge surprise to see him score with Spur's away record last season, but still a difficult match.

Man U away. Rooney to score against his old club at Old Trafford, it's practically written in the stars!

And then the 3 big B's. Bournemouth H, Burnley H, Brighton A. All generous fixtures.

He's likely to be on penalties, most likely motivated, has already talked about being given a position as striker, and it only 7.5.

People are talking about their 3rd striker being Gayle (6.5), JRod (6), Firmino (8.5), Defoe (8). But I genuinely see Rooney as an option.

    Thoughts?
