Line-Up Lessons – Gameweek 3 – Part Two

Pep Guardiola changs both formation and personnel – most pertinently in attack – as rotation begins to bite at Manchester City.

Mauricio Pochettino makes a similar move for Spurs, but it’s closer to business as usual for Manchester United, Southampton and a host of other sides.

Here’s part two of Line-up Lessons, assessing the teamsheets and formations from Gameweek 3, with one eye on what’s to come following the international break. Part one can be viewed here.

Manchester City

Starting XI: Ederson; Danilo, Kompany, Otamendi, Mendy; D Silva (Stones 90), Fernandinho, De Bruyne; B Silva (Aguero 66), Gabriel Jesus (Sane 82), Sterling. Subs not used: Bravo, Mangala, Toure, Delph.

  • What we saw: Pep Guardiola opted for a 4-1-2-3 system against Bournemouth, handing first starts to Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva. Mendy played at left-back, with Silva on the right of a front three. Raheem Sterling was utilised on the left, with Gabriel Jesus favoured over Sergio Aguero as the central striker. David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne operated just in front of holding midfielder Fernandinho, while John Stones dropped to the bench due to the change in formation. Danilo started at right-back in the absence of the suspended Kyle Walker.
  • What we learned: The change in system still saw City struggle to overcome Bournemouth, leaving further question marks over how Guardiola will set up his side moving forward. Walker will return for the home meeting with Liverpool after the international break and will be expected to replace Danilo at right-back. A four-man defence doesn’t bode well for Stones’ prospects, while Bernardo Silva’s encouraging debut adds further doubt among the City attack. Leroy Sane certainly looks to be down the pecking order, while with the UEFA Champions League group stage starting next month, Jesus and Aguero could share minutes. Rotation in general looks a big concern along with De Bruyne’s deeper role that limits his influence around the penalty area.

Current Status: Unsettled
Risk Areas: Right-back, central defenders, attacking midfield, forwards

Manchester United

Starting XI: De Gea; Valencia, Jones, Bailly, Blind; Matic, Pogba; Mata (Rashford 67), Mkhitaryan (Fellaini 74), Martial (Lingard 77); Lukaku. Subs not used: Romero, Darmian, Smalling, Herrera.

  • What we saw: Jose Mourinho only made one adjustment for the visit of Leicester City to Old Trafford, with the in-form Anthony Martial getting a start on the left wing in place of Marcus Rashford. The United boss went with a 4-2-3-1 from the off, switching again to a 4-3-3 once Marouane Fellaini was brought on for Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Fellow subs Rashford and Jesse Lingard operated either side of central striker Romelu Lukaku.
  • What we learned: While Martial enjoyed an impressive outing, Rashford’s goal means he may come back into the side for the Gameweek 4 trip to Stoke City. Further changes appear unlikely, although with the Champions League group stage getting underway next month, we could begin to see some rotation. Phil Jones is playing with a minor ankle problem but is set to continue at centre-back as he is suspended for United’s first Champions League group stage matche. Eric Bailly is also banned for the opener, so they look to be assured starters over the next two Gameweeks.

Current Status: Very Settled
Risk Areas: Left wing

Newcastle United

Starting XI: Elliot; Manquillo, Lascelles, Clark, Mbemba; Hayden (Diame 82), Merino; Ritchie (Murphy 88), Perez, Atsu; Joselu (Mitrovic 72). Subs not used: Woodman, Gamez, Aarons, Saivet.

  • What we saw: Rafa Benitez handed a first league start to Joselu, with Dwight Gayle missing out due to illness. The rest of the Newcastle side was unchanged in a 4-2-3-1 formation as Chancel Mbemba continued at left-back.
  • What we learned: After picking up a first win of the season, changes are unlikely for the Gameweek 4 trip to Swansea City. Benitez will hope Florian Lejeune (ankle) and DeAndre Yedlin (hamstring) recover in time for the trip to south Wales, with Mbemba’s start looking most at risk. After impressing in the lone striker role, Joselu should get another chance to start after the international break. Jonjo Shelvey will be available again following his three-match ban, but he may have to wait for his chance, with Mikel Merino particularly impressive against the Hammers.

Current Status: Settled
Risk Areas: Full-backs, central defenders

Southampton

Starting XI: Forster; Cedric, Stephens, Yoshida, Bertrand; Davis, Romeu; Redmond, Lemina (Long 64), Tadic (McQueen 74); Gabbiadini (Ward-Prowse 70). Subs not used: McCarthy, Hoedt, Austin, Ward-Prowse, Boufal.

  • What we saw: Mauricio Pellegrino kept faith in the side that beat West Ham United 3-2, with Mario Lemina recovering from a gashed shin to start at the base of midfield in the 4-2-3-1 formation. The Saints boss brought on Shane Long on the right wing, with Steven Davis dropping back alongside Oriol Romeu, before the Republic of Ireland international replaced Manolo Gabbiadini as the lone striker and James Ward-Prowse took over down the right.
  • What we learned: Pellegrino has kept a settled side over his first three league matches, and that shouldn’t change radically as we head into September. Wesley Hoedt is expected to push for a start in central defence though, leaving either Jack Stephens or Maya Yoshida at risk. Charlie Austin was surprisingly unused against the Terriers, suggesting that Gabbiadini’s start remains secure. Ward-Prowse may find it difficult to force his way back into the starting XI.

Current Status: Settled
Risk Areas: Central defenders

Stoke City

Starting XI: Butland; Zouma, Shawcross, Martins Indi; Cameron (Ramadan Sobhi 70), Allen, Fletcher, Pieters; Shaqiri, Jese (Crouch 62); Choupo-Moting. Subs not used: Grant, Johnson, Berahino, Adam, Bojan.

  • What we saw: Mark Hughes made one alteration from the side that beat Arsenal 1-0 for the trip to West Bromwich Albion, with Bruno Martins Indi starting at the expense of Mame Biram Diouf. Geoff Cameron shifted across to right wing-back. Xherdan Shaqiri recovered from a hamstring problem to start in the front three. Peter Crouch came on to replace Jese shortly after the hour mark, with Choupo-Moting moving to the left. Hughes then switched to a 4-2-3-1 following the introduction of Ramadan Sobhi for Cameron. Zouma moved to right-back, while Sobhi was stationed primarily on the right wing, with Shaqiri drifting into a No 10 position.
  • What we learned: While Hughes looks set to favour a three-man defence, particularly now that Kevin Wimmer has joined the club, he can easily shift to a 4-2-3-1 during matches if needs be. Cameron could see more playing time at right wing-back, given Diouf’s tendency to be rash in the tackle. While Crouch scored the vital equaliser, the front three may stay unchanged for the visit of Manchester United to the bet365 Stadium following the break.

Current Status: Fairly Settled
Risk Areas: Central defenders, right wing-back

Swansea City

Starting XI: Fabianski; Fernandez, van der Hoorn (Routledge 70), Mawson; Naughton (Rangel 88), Carroll, Fer, Olsson, Clucas; Ayew, Abraham (McBurnie 78). Subs not used: Narsingh, Nordfeldt, Roque Mesa, Fulton.

  • What we saw: Swans head coach Paul Clement stuck with a three-man defence for the trip to Crystal Palace, with Mike van der Hoorn replacing the injured Kyle Bartley. Sam Clucas was handed his debut, taking over from Roque Mesa in central midfield in the 3-5-2 system. Van der Hoorn was replaced by Wayne Routledge for tactical reasons as the Swans moved to a 4-4-2. The substitute operated wide on the right, with Tom Carroll drifting over to the left.
  • What we learned: This was the second successive match in which Clement opted for a three-man backline, and after picking up a first league win of the season, he may well retain this system for the home clash against Newcastle United. Mesa and Leon Britton may struggle to get back into the side in central midfield, but Fernando Llorente is expected to be available – providing he remains in south Wales. Other new faces are expected over the next few days, though.

Current Status: Fairly Settled
Risk Areas: Central midfield, forwards

Tottenham Hotspur

Starting XI: Lloris; Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Dier, Dembele (Sanchez 90); Eriksen (Winks 88), Alli, Son Heung-min (Sissoko 70); Kane. Subs not used: Vorm, Walker-Peters, Oakley-Boothe, Janssen.

  • What we saw: Mauricio Pochettino changed to a 4-2-3-1 formation for the home meeting with Burnley, with Eric Dier joining Mousa Dembele in the double-pivot in the absence of the injured Victor Wanyama (knee). Son Heung-min earned a first start of the season alongside Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in the attacking midfield positions, while Kieran Trippier recovered from a knock to start at right-back. Davinson Sanchez was handed his Spurs debut late on.
  • What we learned: Pochettino is still trying to find the best formula this season, and a switch back to a 3-4-2-1 looks possible for the Gameweek 4 trip to Everton. Dier or Sanchez could start next to Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen in central defence, with Son dropping to the bench. Wanyama may start in central midfield, providing he’s passed fit. Further new additions are expected over the next 48 hours, which could change the picture further by the time Spurs play next.

Current Status: Fairly Settled
Risk Areas: Central defenders, central midfield, attacking midfield

Watford

Starting XI: Gomes; Femenia, Prodl, Kabasele, Britos; Doucoure, Cleverley, Chalobah; Richardlison, Gray (Deeney 83), Amrabat (Cathcart 28) (Carrillo 47). Subs not used: Pantilimon, Success, Watson, Capoue.

  • What we saw: Hornets head coach Marco Silva decided to use Miguel Britos at left-back in place of the suspended Jose Holebas, in what was again a 4-2-3-1 formation. But after Britos was sent off, Silva moved Kiko Femenia over to the left, with Craig Cathcart brought on to play at right-back. That change saw Tom Cleverley operate slightly wider on the right in more of a 4-4-1 system. Cathcart was then forced off with a knock just after half-time, Andre Carrillo making his Hornets debut.
  • What we learned: Britos will now miss the next three league matches due to suspension, although Holebas will return from his one-match ban for the Gameweek 4 trip to Southampton. Silva will hope that Younes Kaboul, Daryl Janmaat and Roberto Pereyra are all fit for the clash at St Mary’s to bolster his options.

Current Status: Fairly Settled
Risk Areas: Right-back, central defenders, left wing

West Bromwich Albion

Starting XI: Foster; Nyom, Dawson, Hegazi, Brunt; Barry; Phillips (McClean 75), Livermore, Morrison (Yacob 70), Rodriguez (Burke 88); Rondon. Subs not used: Myhill, Chadli, Field, Wilson.

  • What we saw: Baggies head coach Tony Pulis once again deployed a 4-1-4-1 formation for the home fixture against Stoke City, but he decided to hand a first league start of the season to Salomon Rondon. The Venezuelan operated as the lone striker, with Jay Rodriquez moving out to the left wing. The fit-again James Morrison also came into the starting XI in central midfield, replacing Sam Field. During the latter stages, James McClean came on to operate on the left, while Oliver Burke was handed his Premier League debut down the opposite flank.
  • What we learned: The decision to deploy Rodriguez out wide paid off for Pulis when the former Southampton man ghosted in at the far post to score his first Premier League goal for the club. Rodriguez and Rondon may be used in the same positions when the Baggies travel to Brighton in Gameweek 4, although Burke could come into contention for a start out wide. Claudio Yacob and Field remain viable starters in central midfield, while a new centre-back is likely if Jonny Evans departs the Hawthorns over the coming days. Gareth McAuley may also be in contention after the international break, having missed the start of the campaign due to a thigh injury.

Current Status: Slightly Unsettled
Risk Areas: Central defenders, central midfield, flanks, lone striker

West Ham United

Starting XI: Hart; Zabaleta, Collins, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Rice (Lanzini 46), Noble (Kouyate 71); Antonio, Ayew (Sakho 70), Fernandes; Hernandez. Subs not used: Adrian, Fonte, Masuaku, Obiang.

  • What we saw: Hammers boss Slaven Bilic chose to use Edimilson Fernandes on the left wing in the absence of the suspended Marko Arnautovic. He opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Michail Antonio on the opposite flank, leaving Andre Ayew in a support striker role. James Collins was favoured over Jose Fonte in central defence. At half-time, Bilic decided the introduce the fit-again Manuel Lanzini, who replaced youngster Declan Rice and took over from Fernandes in the advanced midfield spot. Cheikhou Kouyate also made his first league appearance of the season off the bench.
  • What we learned: Following a dismal 3-0 defeat at St James’ Park, Bilic looks set to make changes for the home clash against Huddersfield Town. Lanzini and Kouyate could both return to the starting XI, with Fernandes and Rice perhaps most likely to make way. The West Ham boss will also hope Winston Reid recovers from a calf injury to return in central defence, with Collins in line to move back to the bench. Andy Carroll (hip) was believed to be close to a first-team return last weekend and could feature against the Terriers.

Current Status: Slightly Unsettled
Risk Areas: Central defenders, central midfield, attacking midfield, forwards

I was just thinking this, Wimmer at 4.4 is surely a good deal for a cover defender?

Not convinced they've got good enough wing-backs to play 3 at the back long-term. Cameron and Pieters aren't going to provide the necessary threat.

Excuse the long post but i need a Wenger outburst and may as well be here. I think its very intriguing (and for a fan, dreadful), developing and pretty amazing situation, so interested to hear others thoughts. Of course there are other factors, Owner, Board, Emirates move but this is solely on Wenger. I will be totally honest and from the heart and head, So firstly to point out I've been a fan for 30 years, 10 of which i went a lot, season ticket for a few but since we moved to Emirates i don't go anymore for a variety of reasons so only see us on the Television. Of course, Wenger was an incredible coach for us for years and he will always have my respect for that, but that is not enough in any form of life to accept someone when it has lead to constant failure after the success. Personally i've been wanting change since 2006, by 2009 i wanted Wenger out simply because of the continual lack of action to resolve continuously ongoing issues resulting in the same season happening over and over again. People say be careful what you wish for but to me you have to risk changes to succeed when things aren't going your way over a long period of time, so i would take any reasonably intelligent change in the leadership of the club even if it meant going backwards for a period. Here is a list of things ranging from small to massive that i think clearly shows he is not the man to take the club forward in any shape or form.

1- Refusal to ever resolve leadership on the pitch, since the days of Adams, Vieira, Campbell etc is such a flaw in his management, one that if fixed could resolve so many other issues. We have not had one real leader since those days, could just about justify Koscielny but he is no Terry, Gerrard, Ferdinand, Neville etc etc (even someone like Shawcross, Morgan in a leadership sense.)

2- Defensive Midfield. I think it is fair to say we haven't had a decent one since Gilberto Silva, not only that there seems to be little to no effort to even try. Put Matic in our team and a leader like point 1 and suddenly even our current team would look like title challengers ini my opinion. Grant Xhaka cost 35 million, he offers nothing on the pitch that is required for a holding midfielder, ok his passing is a strength but that is undone by the now habitual mistake leading to a goal.

3- Tactics. I believe we have won just 2 out of 21 away games against the top 6 in the last 5 years, and conceded 3 or more goals in 8 of them, 52 in total. I understand he is an attack minded coach but surely when the same thing keeps happening you change it? We go to Liverpool yesterday and as soon as i saw the team with Holding vs Mane and Bellerin on his wrong foot it wasn't hard to work out what was going to happen, how can i see that and not a man paid 9 million a year? (there are many examples not just one). Add that to having no holding midfielders, Ramsey seemingly allowed to join Ozil far too far up the pitch with the wing backs and all of a sudden its quite obvious the defence are going to be exposed to one of the best attacks in the league. Once at City we sat back and stayed solid, and won.... where was that yesterday??!

4- Player Development. With of course a few exceptions, one i believe where the talent exceeds the need for management, nearly all players under Wenger go backwards through mis management, playing in wrong positions, destroying of confidence etc etc. The exceptions would be say Fabregas, RVP, Sanchez, Koscielny. I may have missed a couple but other than those players seem to get worse. I was never really a fan of Theo but he has been destroyed by Wenger, wasn't long ago he was scoring hatricks for England but he is now a player with no future at the club with no position to play in. He's just one, We keep buying players and either they aren't good enough and get sold on for less money or a great and sell them to a rival for more money

5- Player Management. This is where the most annoying "Wenger In" comments arrive. "Blame the players not the manager, they are letting him down" is literally one the dumbest things I've ever heard. He either bought them or developed them, either way he is paid 9 million a year to MANAGE them. I cannot stand Mesut Ozil, gifted yes very much so but from the day he arrived all i saw was laziness and the ability to bottle any challenge anywhere on the pitch regardless of whether it was him who had just lost it. Now any half decent manager would not accept this, and to do so undermines the entire club.... bench him until he changes or just sell him if he can't or won't. whatever the situation, Wenger is the boss and responsible for those on the pitch and their attitude and performance (putting occasional errors aside) are aa direct reflection of him. People criticising Sanchez also have my head in a spin. The one guy in the team that tries his hardest all of the time and clearly also our best player by a mile. of late his attitude has been poor, but is that really his fault... would anyone who knew they were world class and gave 110% accept playing in this team under this manager? I think very very few. Are the players attitudes hard to take at the moment? Yes. But to take Wenger out of the reasons for why they act like that is just very silly given he is the number 1 reason why they have got to that stage.

5 and final (hurray i hear you shout, if you got this far)- Last years decision to not announce whether staying or going. There is no good explanation for how that would have ever helped the players or the toxic situation between the Fans. The only reasonable explanation is that he was buying time to snatch top 4 or a trophy to make his case stronger to stay. He got the latter, but now even his Champions League qualifying record has less impact and bit by bit the grounds weakens below his feet. Unfortunately us on the Wenger out side know that this is where the other arguments come in about the Owner and Board..... if they really cared about anything other than the money risk they would have moved him on or upstairs in 2015 or 2016. I convinced myself by 7pm on sunday he was going this week, by 9pm i realised that was me just fantasising and until he walks or the entire fan base stop going to matches, he will remain at the helm... well at least another 2 years.

OK once last tiny thing, the thing that started my questioning of AW. 29th October 2008. An amazing North London derby, leading 4-2 in last few minutes. Denilson breaks away, doesn't go for the corner and loses the ball, 4-3. Injury time, have just learned not to be silly and do that. We break away again, surely now we run for the corner, no... we try to score again and lose the ball. 4-4. I've seen that happen maybe another 20 times since and still leading by 1 goal in the final few minutes we always try to score again..... that is not football management is totally flawed genius not to resolve it.

Be well people and thanks for reading if you did.... Over and Wenger Out

As a spurs fan I mainly enjoyed the revisiting of the 4-4 North London derby. Great match.

He has served arsenal incredibly well in the past but I think his time came a few years ago.

Will miss him failing to zip up that duvet jacket, though

Agree with a lot of this. I've never ever ever been Wenger out but Sunday was the last straw for me. He left our record signing Lacazette on the bench, our LB Kolasinac on the bench when Bellerin was in his position and Monreal at CB with Mustafi on the bench. It's like he's deliberately trying to sabotage us.

I'm not saying I'm full on Wenger out but he needs to sort this out. He signed that 2 year contract, and let's face it, he's not going anywhere. We were promised change from the board this summer. I can't see any change at all. The best thing to happen to us since the invincibles (Alexis Sanchez) looks like he's going to Man City. If that happens, as I said on the last page, I will never forgive Arsene Wenger.

Very interesting to hear from someone who was more pro AW. I know we all have different expectations and views based on personal experience so i can't deny peoples right to want him to stay, the only good news is that even the die hards are starting to change their views, but as you say with sanchez.... what will be left at the end of it? I can't quite bring myself to think it was sabotage but given his unbelievable stubbornness to a situation anyone in their right mind would have walked away from, i can't put it past him.

Wenger has no pressure to deliver. Mou was right when he said something to the effect that some managers have the luxury of failing but not get fired. As long as Wenger doesnt get fired for his short comings he will never feel the need to deliver.

Mourinho can say all he likes. I have more respect for Wenger.

Mourinho spends more money than Wenger every season. Secondly, Mourinho is the only manager in the top 6 that comes to a big match prepared to defend all the way through it. Stinks the game out.

He is bad for football and sooner he retires the better for the game.

Wenger's issue is not money spent, its being competent enough for the job.

He should have relied more on scouting. I can list 50 players under 25 he could have signed but missed out on because he failed to be maverick with his approach.

Leicester winning the title really put the money excuse to bed

I agree on his competence and perhaps has outstayed in that role by 10 years.

We can't assess him by Mourinho's comments. Who tends to contradict himself often!

I will give him his credit, he has always played honest football (unlike some), something all football fans and paying supporters should never be deprived of.

He is also one of the most influential football managers in the last 20 years.

Shame he is a stubborn man!

      Agree with most of this.

Disagree on Sanchez. He packed it in 9 months ago. Even the lazy Ozil outruns him with more sprints most games.

Sporadically running like a headless chicken and complaining about teammates has fooled people into thinking he actually tries.

Interesting. For me that time was around the first Bayern hammering. I totally get what you are saying but prior to that was he not one of our hardest working players in history? And also one of our best? I just think anyone with a brain in that situation will be affected by it and lose the will to fight as hard as they had before when others don't anyway. I know he's a bit "arms in the air" and I don't like seeing it, I just blame the manager more than I do him

I read it all and there's nothing to disagree with. Nothing at all.

Maybe I can add something from an odd angle, being a long-time Chelsea supporter myself.

I remember when Arsenal were really one of the big 2 in English football, that wasn't so long ago (12 or 15 years maybe). When Chelsea started to push their way into that top echelon, Arsenal became big rivals. I remember some awful games (from a Chelsea perspective); I was at Stamford Bridge for the late Kanu hat-trick in 1999 which took the game from 2-0 to 2-3. That was one of the worst days of my football life. I also remember some great wins, I was at the Millennium for the 2-1 LC Final win in 2007 when Drogba scored twice.

But the main thing was that Arsenal were for a long time a very disliked rival. So when things started to collapse at Arsenal around 10 years ago I used to quite enjoy baiting my Arsenal mates with quotes like "top 4 is a trophy" and "specialist in failure" and references to Arsenal's CL ambitions which seemed to never stretch beyond the last 16.

I don't bait them any more. In all honesty I just feel sorry for them and I keep my mouth shut. As far as I can see, Arsenal fans have been submitted to an eternal groundhog day, season after season. Every end of season promises some new hope. Every new season contains a collapse and then a too-late recovery, usually enough to scrape 3rd or 4th but last season not even that. Glaring holes in the team are never filled and the manager refuses to ever give another team the credit of altering his tactics to combat them. I'd hate it if that were my club. And as a result I can't really take any pleasure from the banter any more, it would be too much like kicking an injured animal.

What I can enjoy is watching Arsenal FanTV, it has great comedy value. But even that is now more like watching a wake than anything else. 😕

Generally in London, Arsenal fans are now more pitied than reviled. And that tells the whole story in a nutshell I think.

Wow what a fantastic post! Intelligent, empathetic, soulful and funny!

Amazingly as we've become what you describe, you've gone the exact opposite... you could question a lot of decisions that go on at the bridge from an integrity point of view but in the end, it's about winning and it works.

I was also at Millenoum stadium that day... I have one glaring memory that has stayed with me since, and it sort of explains my long post.... as we were leaving I just said "we like completely put played them with kids (may have been a slight exaggeration!) and if we had had drogba and Terry we would have won 5-0. Basically all of Wengers pros and cons in one game. And back then Theo looked like was going to be world class!!

Also, your groundhog comment was literally my entire position wrapped up, have said it many times. Champions league is only worth money and to attract players for us... because it was clear from 2008 we never had a chance to win it, so what's the achievement of qualifying for it? Just another excuse

And yes, Arsenal TV is the only upside of our situation, even I was looking forward to it at 7pm on Sunday, altho heating that guy TY defending Wenger every time makes me want to commit violent crimes.

    GK: De Gea
    Defence: Stephens, Dawson, Davies
Midfield: Salah, De bruyne, Willian, Atsu
    Forwards: Kane, Kaku and Gabb

    Bench: Elliot, Carroll, Mee, Rangel.

I have 2 free transfers and 0itb, any suggestions please?

Looking at Liverpool, Mane looks irresistable, Salah is a fantasy football dream player and I can't see any forward scoring similar points near Bobby's price point. Is a treble up that bad of an idea? I know they'll be rotated but they will always play 2 out of the 3

Yeah i take that point but i still cant see any better options in any of their positions. Firminho is actually the one I'm not convinced about but at 8.5 he'll score more points than anyone in that price bracket

Didn't get any replies last page

Going to get Willian and Danilo and Fraser out but don't know for which combo:

    A) Salah, Jese, Schindler - 0.2 ITB
    B) Salah, Atsu, Davies - 0.1 ITB

    1) Jese or Richarlison
    2) Schindler or Naughton
    3) Davies or Trippier

Is Davies more nailed then Trippier?

Davies does have Rose to contend for obviously. But Rose is in the dog house atm, and still injured, so Davies could be the better shout. but Poch loves to rotate his fullbacks during CL, so its a bit of a 50/50

I don't want to knee-jerk Harry out of my team but it's very likely he'll drop by 0.2 (or even 0.3) by the next gameweek... Tempted to wildcard now, and sell Kane but buy him back just before the deadline - that 0.2 or so, coupled with a few more gains I could make, could be the difference between having Alonso over Walker, for example

    1. Merteswagger
      • 9 Years

Could've just gone Kane -> Morata for GW4, captained him as captaincy options are limited elsewhere, sold Morata for 0.1 more after he rises to 10.2 and then repurchased Kane for 12.2 just before GW5 starts.

No harm in skipping an away fixture at Everton. No hits involved and no wasting the wildcard.

He hasn't even dropped once yet and he is only going down 0.2% per hour right now. The second drop needs more transfers out, a lot of people removing him are on WC and the market will slow down even more before picking up again towards the end of last week. I'm confident it will only be one drop before next deadline.

Having a pretty weak bench every week, Spurs needed 3-4 players to backup the first XI. Even if they didnt have CL games, Poch cant possibly expect 14-15 players to be used for the entire year. If Lamela and Rose were fit, then 2 more players would be ok. Now i really dont know what to expect. Shame Spurs havent been champions 2 years now when they deserved to be at least once. Cant see them do that again although their first XI if fit can win vs anyone.

Prefer Morata, think Hazard will only help him and he's nailed which is what you want from your premium picks

My wildcard team will probably look something like this

    Foster, Elliot

    Cedric, Jones, Fernandez, Lowe/Ward, Mbemba,

    Hazard, Pogba, Eriksen, Salah, Rlc

    Lukaku, Firmino, Chicharito

    What do you think?

Thoughts on this no-Kane WC team?

    Foster
    Bailly - B Davies - Hegazi - Stephens
    Alli - Miki - Eriksen
    Firmino - Morata - Lukaku

Subs: Elliot - Carroll - Chalobah - Mbemba

Will downgrade one of spurs boys to bring in Kane once he starts firing
