The Community Round-Up

A shift in the fixtures from the red to the sky blue half of Manchester has prompted many to press the trigger and fire up their Fantasy Premier League Wildcard during the international break.

Our Hot Topic posters have been full of advice on how to exploit the Gameweek 8 fixture swing, and specifically for Wildcarders on how to get the most from their chip ahead of next weekend.

Meanwhile, our community article section focuses on the impending finale to this year’s surprise hit – Norwegian Fantasy Football.

With five defenders racking up double-digit FPL points hauls in Gameweek 7, it is no surprise to see rearguard options dominate our Members’ tables round-up.

We finish off our round-up with a glance at those who have have already successfully navigated the early schedule to dominate our community competitions.

The Community Articles

The Fantasy Eliteserien game is entering the home stretch with just a handful of games left in the Norwegian top flight, which has prompted Mr Klint of Norway to take a close look at the teams vying for a European place as well as those battling for survival.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topic

The international break is proving the perfect time for many in the community to Wildcard, particularly in light of the impending shift of favourable fixtures towards Manchester City, as well as Chelsea.

Deploying this chip now also offers Fantasy Premier League managers the opportunity to make some extra money in the transfer market. But as Son Alli Kane Wait explains, those expecting a raft of double risers are likely to be in for disappointment.

Navigating the price changes can also be tricky for Wildcarders, as Lord Bendtner TGSTEL’s Hot Topic on the best time to ditch and swoop for players testifies.

For Lanley Staurel the key to a successful Wildcard is to make genuine changes. He is calling on those using this chip to consider a number of low-owned midfielders with considerable Fantasy potential, including Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, who is comparing well against Mohamed Salah, according to our Hot Topic.

Timing is also important, with Swinner among those beginning to regret using their Wildcard earlier in the season, when there was less information about team and player form available.

With Manchester United’s fixtures stiffening – they take on Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea in the next four – Romelu Lukaku has been labelled as surplus to requirements for some. This is especially the case for those looking to use some of his £11.8m for investment in Chelsea’s key assets, as well as the key Manchester City midfield options put forward by Sbasty.

Those handing the Belgian his P45 can take comfort from Diesel001’s look at the best captains over the next ten Gameweeks, with the striker listed as the top choice just once. Meanwhile, JurgenRodgers‘ Hot Topic on FPL’s historical greats is also grim reading for those backing Lukaku, as this reveals that strikers are rarely the top points scorers in a season.

However, dumping a player with seven goals in as many league matches could be a huge risk, warns Simon Says.

There was further discussion on forwards in our Hot Topic on the key criteria to consider when assembling a front line.

Those unwilling to part with Lukaku may need to find funds elsewhere, which is where the cut-price options in our budget enablers Hot Topic may come in handy, as will Ludo’s analysis of fixture blocks and rotation.

Sticking with Wildcard advice, Lyonnais’ post on the best formations to consider proved popular this week and strongly advocates a focus on defence. FantasyNik123 is another to urge heavy investment at the back, particularly as more casual FPL managers appear to be very keen on premium defenders from the top sides.

The two-week break from league action also provides Fantasy managers with an opportunity to look back at their successes and failures so far. Kryten invited the community to rate their season so far out of ten, while our latest rough with the smooth round-up looked specifically at Gameweek 7’s trials and tribulations. There was further hand-wringing in our Hot Topic on lessons learned from Gameweek 7.

Our resident statisticians have also had more time to mull over the numbers, with Newcastle striker Joselu proving a divisive figure in NoQuarternt’s look at expected goals (xG). Meanwhile G-Whizz dropped by to unveil the latest fixture difficulty statistics from Doosra.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members Tables

Have Liverpool defenders just been unlucky to concede 13 goals in the league so far? Norcaljosh has been investigating the Reds rearguard via his latest table and also found time to unearth some more of this season’s most frustrating players.

Attack-minded defenders come under rb2891’s gaze, while neenyg has been scrutinising the statistics of mid-price midfielders.

Elsewhere, FPL Virgin has been looking at the best goalkeepers as well as the most eye-catching Arsenal defenders.

Philippe Coutinho and Joselu’s successful strikes in Gameweek 7 saw them depart the goals imminent table. The latest array of players who look set to score can be found here.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Fabio Borges stays top of the Fantasy Football Scout Members league and Red Lightning’s Top 10,000 Any Season after Gameweek 7 and is now up to 753 in the overall rankings.

In the main FFScout league, the new leader is Damir TeNay. This is his third season and his previous best finish was only 116,000. He climbs to 35 in the overall rankings without using any chips or taking any transfer hits.

Last season’s overall FPL runner-up Uwais Ahmed has taken the lead in the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league, closely followed by Greenwindmill and Scoutcaster Az. Andy may be favourite for the wooden spoon in this league in last spot but he’s flying high in the moderators and contributors Draft league, where he has clung onto the summit.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score was 41, which saw 208 players depart and over 3,000 remain with entry currently open.

QPR Utd continues to lead his own FFS Frequent Summer Posters League, closely followed by Urchin and ZoumasBloomers.

Finally, the organisers of the Community Watch tournament urged those taking part to make sure they stay involved or risk being replaced by other eager potential participants.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-Ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

    Couple of weeks back we had plenty of options upfront. Things have changed suddenly though.

    - Lukaku tough fixtures(injury doubt)
    - Morata- Injured
    - Aguero- Injured
    - Firmino- Out of form
    - Lacazzete- not performing away/taken off early

    This leaves us with ( Kane - Jesus- Vardy) as the best frontline right ? (all 3 have form and fixtures)

      Kane and Jesus for sure - Vardy I'm not convinced is essential and looking at 2 up front. Kane/Kak/Jesus would be the dream but can't make it work on WC

        Vardy is a great option. he scored 5 goals in 7 (including tough teams like liv che ars)

        Has great fixtures WBA swa EVE stk and comes at very decent price of 8.5. He allows you to have a nice team balance too. Whats not to like mate ?

          I haven't solved the team balance thing with him in my squad as he stops me from acquiring the City/Chelsea assets I've my eye on.

          Vardy have nice fixtures but is Vardys nice fixtures the opposite of Leicester? What i mean is that when Leicester meets better teams Vardy thrives because they left a lot of space to run into while the like of Brighton and such doesn´t. Picked him myself on WC so should have faith, but it is a niggling thought, problem is that it is him or Firmino or downgrading to a cheapo which i won´t because i like the structure of my team as it is. Balance is key, yes

            Yes, this is a valid argument, Vardy thrives on conterattacking, and he not playing teams that give that opportunity

            I disagree. vardy is type of striker who thrives on confidence

            Lets look at last season. he had only 5 goals 3 assists in first 22 matches.

            However he had 8 goals 3 assists in had 13 matches.

            Now he's in good form with 5 in 7. Better get him and ride this period where he's expected to do well 😉

              a well put point there, mate-)

              Confidence slipped through my thinking there, add that to Pulis slipping up a bit (West Brom seems not to be as solid as they were). Thanks for the reminder-)

      IV kane Lukaku Jesus with money ITB to change to Jesus to Aguero or Morata if needed. I’m not losing Lukaku because it’s are scoring 4 a game and Kane is on fire.

      2 premium mids and 3 premium defenders.

    On wildcard!

    Is worth loosing Lukaku (11.8) for Vardy if it enables you to get Hazard & Azpi in place of Coutinho & Cedric?

      Both could easily do well, so ship Cedric for now and buy back when he falls (close according to fplstatistics) his fixture next 4 is plum de luxe, low-scoring team and home.

      Well you know the risks. But ultimately the potential for Lukaku to hurt will be minimized among serious players because most will not really captain him. Although casuals will still highly captain him so there is risk if he goes big vs Huddersfield. If you are getting rid of Lukaku first just accept he will score but will he score much? That's the question. Spreading the funds to gain big hitters like Chelsea defender and Hazard could well pay off and could jump you many places and vice versa.

      If you have plan to get Lukaku back when he is needed again I would do it. Hazard has big big potential and those Chelsea fixtures are really good for the eternity now.
      Good luck 🙂

    hey guys, latest WC draft, your thoughts would be much appreciated:

    4-3-3

    Jesus Kane Vardy

      Looks good apart from midfield. Sane Sterling - both suffer from too much rotation IMO. Slight question mark on Haz given his price tag and currently not up to usual form but probably worth it on balance given he is bound to start heavy hitting soon. I'd go Silva if you want City cover in midfield and then have a rethink on the others

      It does look good, although you're backing yourself into a corner with Sane and Sterling. Where do you go from there with Aguero back, fixture congestion, and general rotation all at play? No Pogba to move sideways to. It feels pretty inflexible.

      That aside, the team in the short term appears perfect.

    Anyone think Mkhi might not start against Liverpool? First big test against real opposition, will Mourinho set up a bit differently / more defensively? He got subbed before Mata, who scored, etc. It's just a gut feeling, but I want to be talked out of it so I can keep him and save the hit.

        I tend to agree. His minutes seem to go down and down, but he's started a lot and could be a due rotation, and Mou has said a few things here and there that aren't overly positive. It won't surprise me at all if he's on the bench next weekend. And then I'll wish I had taken the -4 and done something attacking.

        I think he will play 4231 with Fellaini n Matic Holding. Norma front 4 of Mata Mhki Rash , Lukaku .
        Don’t see why he would change a winning formula completely

      Good point. It's a risk bit a risk worth taking Imo due to fixtures and their price plus relatively difficult fixtures for the others like Salah Eriksen Mkhi in the immediate turn. Minutes could be a issue but they are still expected to get enough minutes to get serious points. Plus city are the form team 🙂 . Eriksen looks a season keeper atm though

      It's funny, in a strange way I'm happy I used the WC way back in GW4. It looks like a nightmare at the moment with all the injuries. The best team now almost certainly won't be even close to it in 4 GWs. Not having the WC has simplified my thinking, and I look at my team and feel good about it almost all of it (except Mkhi). Less stress!

        Elliot
        Bavies, Cedric, Naughton
        Alli, Silva, Phillips, Carroll
        Kane, Lukaku, Jesus

        Foster, RLC, Mbemba, Long

          Current options are:

          A) Phillips/Lukaku -> Cout/Vardy
          B) Phillips -> 6.8 & save FT
          C) Long -> Mee/Ward & Dave FT (bench Phillips this week before -> Choupo next week)

            I think i'd go B) but there aren't any great candidates. Too early for Richarlison. Maybe just go Choupo a week early or turn Foster into Pope for the better rotation with Elliot. Having 2FT going forward is always nice.

                I like that. If you are going to use both FTs that looks the best option so far. Almost worth doing just to avoid possible price drops alone and should get more pts too.

      1. Sticking by it. Sensible in order to sway for the fixture swing and to make adjustments to the team. Morata actually the only player who obstructed my plan, my plan was Sterling and Morata for Jesus, but now i got Pedro and Jesus, which is an easy switch down the line and Jesus will rather go up than down and Morata the opposite so no harm done, so far. Pedro is a risk but so is Sterling long term so not much in it to be fair.
      2. Not sure why one would lose that much last week, unless you were really unlucky. Lost 0.1 on Jesus, which is back now-). Was ofc hoping for double risers, but even if it´s not gonna be many a fair share of them wil be close and my aim was not to gain money, but rather to steer clear of some fallers and maybe pick players that could be significant risers in the next weeks.
      3. Predicting future is the hardest thing. I´m sure i would want to have my WC in Desember

        Re. option 2. A lot of the currently popular players rose in GW7. I reluctantly played my wildcard then as the budget was very tight and saved 0.5m on the team I wanted.

        Originally I planned on using my wildcard for the big GW12 fixture swing. I may still regret not waiting although it's gone better than usual so far.

        1. bench boost for every gamew…

          besides Kane and i gather you refers to City players and such they´re not yet reached their value, in other words, if performing like this, Silva at 8.5 is stil good value. But i do see your point, but i had both Davies, Kane and Silva prior to gw7, and those wcing for Kane have to buy him a tad over the stipulated value, so your point is valid.
          But as you know, wildcarding is also to mange problems and restructure for fixtureswings and that is my main priority atm. GW12 is also a seemingly good opportunity to wildcard, granted

    You know the feeling when you wake up, read FFS, make the decision to WC and then wonder why on earth you didn’t just hang fire?!

    Anywhoo - comments or thoughts on the 4/3/3 below would be hugely appreciated!

    Forster
    Bavies - Stones - Tarkowski - Naughton
    Salah - Hazard - Silva
    Jezus - Kane - Abraham

    (Elliott - Mbemba - Surman - TC)

    Know I could downgrade Hazard to get Vardy upfront in place of Abraham, but I’m still hoping somehow that Abraham and Swansea start firing upfront and just have a feeling in my waters that Hazard is going to step up with the fixtures they’ve got, starting with the whipping boys at CPL next weekend!!

    Thx in advance!

      Wouldn't get Abraham on WC. Try to get Vardy somehow. If not I think Joselu might be a better option as Abraham is a rotation risk. Also upgrade Tarkowski if you want to play 4 at the back. Think you might have to let Hazard go.

    Morning lads. What would you do with the following team?

    Foster Elliot
    Valencia Bertrand Suttner Naughton Mbemba
    Mkhi Silva Eriksen Ritchie Carroll
    Lukaku Kane Abraham

    2 FT 0.7 itb

    Was all set to WC, but I think I'll hold it as no major surgery required. Want to get rid of Abraham but no enticing options close to the price and can't find 3m from anywhere to get Vardy.

    A) Bertrand -> Cedric
    B) Valencia -> Otamendi
    C) Suttner -> Ward
    D) Mkhi/Eriksen -> Sterling
    E) Ritchie -> Richarlison
    F) A combination of 2 above for free
