Dugout Discussion – Southampton vs Newcastle

Gameweek 8 rolls on with an encounter at St Mary’s as Newcastle make the long-trip from Tyneside to take on Southampton.

In Fantasy terms, it’s fair to say that most managers would welcome a goalless draw; in both cases, it’s the defences that boast the greater Fantasy ownership.

Rob Elliot heads into today’s encounter backed by over 1.3 million managers, although 80% of those have chosen to bench the Newcastle keeper. This despite Southampton’s dismal record of scoring in just one of their last nine home matches – a 3-2 win over West Ham United in Gameweek 2.

Chancel Mbemba and Jamaal Lascelles are the other popular assets on show for the Magpies, claiming ownerships of 13.2% and 11.2% respectively. The latter takes his place in central defence alongside the recalled Florian Lejeune, though Mbemba is again out of the matchday squad following recent international exertions with DR Congo.

Further forward, both Matt Ritchie (4.9%) and Christian Atsu (4.2%) are named in Rafa Benitez’s line-up, despite having been withdrawn from their international squads.

For the Saints, Ryan Bertrand (10.9%) and Cedric (9.3%) are their most popular options on show as they go in search of a fourth clean sheet of the season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Need rid of that dud Clark, best Defender that rotates with Ward (Burnley)?

Would have said Wimmer, but he's been dog-poo. Yedlin could be an okay, cheap option. However, it's a bit of a sideways move. (Clark could be back next week, after all).

Perhaps a Swansea defender (Fernandez)? Not sure how amazing that rotation paring is, but they've been surprisingly resolute at times.

Potentially as he travelled with the international squad. That's what I heard, anyway. Hard to say for sure.

    Bottomed. Sooo...

    Foster / Elliot
    Alonso / Davies / Mee / Wimmer / Mbemba
    Eriksen / Salah / Sterling / Gross / Carroll
    Kane / Lukaku / Abraham

Seems apt to lose Foster. Should I get DDG in (despite the two difficult fixtures after Hudds)?

Wimmer is stinking up my time. Brought him in as a punt a few weeks back, but has done zilch. Think he could get dropped (...and Mbemba doesn't even get a squad place.)

Alonso is great, but just not getting the returns of late. With the injury to Moses, could Zappacosta become an alternative?

Front lot are okay, but I could switch the Aguero/Morata. Probably best to wait until injury fears clear up.

What 2 (or 3) moves would you suggest?

Mitb? Tough tbh, would be annoying if wimmer was to get benched when you play him but they do have a good run of fixtures and rotate with Bur, so probably best to wait and do the move after the fact. Mbemba is a fodder. With that team I'd be inclined to save, see where you are next gw with 2 frees and more info

0.3 ITB. 2 FTs. I could make one or two changes. I'm more worried about my defence than anything. The urge to WC is tempting:

        DDG / Elliot
        Davies / Zappacosta* / Stones / Daniels / Mee
        Eriksen / Salah / Sterling / Richalison / RLC
        Aguero / Morata / Abraham

        (!!)

Player interviews with players who speak native English are normally terrible with a lot of "end of the days all credit to the lads etc"
But foreign players who are interviewed in Englsih are even worse.
        Why do they do it?

        "Am Please" "Am Very Happy"

Just interview the managers player interviews are a waste of time.
