Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 12 – Sunday

Richarlison ends his Vicarage Road goal drought as Will Hughes catches the eye against West Ham. Elsewhere, the heroics of Heurelho Gomes helps the Hornets to a rare clean sheet as David Moyes’ tenure at West Ham begins with defeat.

Richarlison ends home drought

Such a reliable source of goals and Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points on his travels, Richarlison finally found the net at home after failing to produce a single effort on target in his previous five at Vicarage Road.

Owned by 18%, the young Brazilian’s home output was of particular concern bearing in mind that his next two visitors are Manchester United and Spurs in Gameweek 14-15.

Yet Sunday’s strike maintained a remarkable run of consistency – he’s now delivered attacking points in six of the last seven Gameweeks ahead of next weekend’s trip to Newcastle United.

Heightening his appeal for that Magpies clash is that, away from home, Richarlison has averaged 7.2 points per match and is the league’s top player for shots inside the opposition box (20).

On the downside, he also has a testing trip to Burnley directly after those United and Spurs matches. But the case for holding is very convincing, with the fixtures turning in his favour from Gameweek 17 once again.

At a price of 6.5, Richarlison is now the top FPL midfielder for value in terms of points per million and sits fifth in the midfield standings on 66 points.

Despite that, his inability to claim bonus points continues to dent the South American’s captaincy potential. He has scored or assisted in eight of the first 12 Gameweeks but has earned bonus points on just two occasions.

Today’s BPS haul was limited by two shots off target and two fouls conceded, while he was also tackled twice.

Hughes impresses in tactical tweak

Handed a central support role alongside Richarlison as Marco Silva moved to 3-4-2-1 against the Hammers, Will Hughes overshadowed his more popular team-mate thanks to a goal, assist and maximum bonus.

But Watford’s form on the road suggests that Silva could revert to his usual 4-2-3-1 at St James’ Park – only Man City (16) and Chelsea (14) have scored more away goals than the Hornets’ 12.

Regardless of formation, Hughes (4.6) now looks likely to be on the teamsheet for the trip to Tyneside after months on the periphery.

Handed just 10 minutes in the opening 10 Gameweeks, Hughes has now started both of Watford’s last two. However, Roberto Pereyra made a return to the bench and replaced the former Derby County man late on; he will doubtless threaten Hughes’ start in weeks to come.

Andre Gray was again a starter up front as Troy Deeney served the second match in a three-match suspension. Gray’s scuffed assist for Hughes’ opener was his second in as many matches.

Gomes keeps it clean

Silva can thank Heurelho Gomes for their first clean sheet in eight attempts after he denied Cheick Kouyate and Marko Arnautovic with superb stops.

Indeed, David Moyes can at least take encouragement from the fact that his side had three big chances today – they had managed just six in their previous six road trips under Slaven Bilic.

For the hosts, the decision to bench Jose Holebas came as a surprise as Marvin Zeegelaar (4.4) earned his first outing of the season at left wing-back. Holebas had played every minute of the previous 10 matches he had been available for, only missing the Gameweek 3 encounter against Brighton due to suspension.

Ranked top for crosses (82) and successful crosses (17) among defenders, Holebas is second only to Ben Davies for key passes (15 to 22) at the back.

Watford’s primary corner taker over the first 11 (he had taken 33 of their first 50), Holebas’ absence saw Hughes also claim dead-ball duties, taking all three of Watford’s corners.

Zeegelaar impressed on his first start, picking up two bonus points on his debut having won three tackles. Kiko Femenía – our preferred option among Silva’s defence – picked up a single bonus point but hobbled off late on with a knock.

Elsewhere, Adrian Mariappa – a 4.0 option in FPL – also earned a notable recall in Silva’s three-man defence having been dropped for the previous two outings.

However, like Hughes, Mariappa will surely have strong competition for his starting role with Sebastian Prödl returning from injury to figure on the bench on Sunday. Younes Kaboul is also on the road to recovery, with Silva likely to go into the busy Christmas period with the option to rotate his centre-backs.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I made the drunken decision to transfer out Aguero > Niasse last night to allow Carroll > Sane with my 2nd FT this week and Fernandez > Azpi next week. Starting to have second thoughts now though hearing about Niasse ban and obviously if Aguero starts vs Huddersfield I could be missing a huge haul.

If I play my free hit chip will it cancel the transfer and I'll have Aguero back in my team for this week? Might be worth it if say Jesus plays 90 in CL. Would mean I can't get Sane but could do Carroll > Hazard with Kane downgraded to Wilson instead. Any thoughts out there as to best option?

A - stick with drunken plan giving me

Jones - Otamendi - Ward - Dunk - Fernandez (Azpi next GW)
    Salah - D Silva - SANE - Richarlison - Gross
    Kane - Morata - NIASSE

B - play free hit chip to get

Jones - Otamendi (Azoi next GW) - Ward - Dunk - Fernandez
    Salah - D Silva - HAZARD - Richarlison - Gross
    Aguero - Morata - WILSON

    TIA

I do this at least 5 times a season. Don't you go out at weekends and end up making rage transfers while waiting for your kebab and taxi home?

the ups on downs of fantasy football... and why we all love (and hate sometimes) it!

my worst ever GW last week - 17 points (including transfers) - to give an overall GW rank of 5.1 million. lead to me to make so rash transfers on Saturday evening....

fast forward to this week and the transfers of Alonso and Salah have paid off, got lucky with captain salah, hazard finally delivers, and looking at a 100+ week if choupo can find the net!

who knows what next week will bring...?!

I don't think much has changed really. Alonso's ceiling is higher, but Azpi is a baps hog and is linking with Morata. I'd favour Azpi personally, but a not a great deal in it.

    Chopu....Richarlison.....Salah....Loftus

    Morning,

    DDG
    Smalling - Mee - Dunk
    Sane - Silva - Salah - Zaha
    Kane (C) - Lukaku - Abraham

    Speroni - TCarroll - Francis - Long

    1FT, 0.5m in the bank.

Original plan was to save FT and then move for double Chelsea the week after. Should I stick to that or look to lose Abraham perhaps?

The one week you got an 8 pointer

    When I needed you,

Feel like I'm in deep trouble with team for first time this season. What to do:

    Elliot / Krul

    Azpi / Jones / Mee / Naughton / Mbemba

    Salah / Sterling / GroB / Carroll / Chalobah

    Kane / Lukaku / Kun

Have to ship out non-playing players as priority but have no cash ITB.
If Jones isn't fit, I'm thinking of shipping him for Daniels and then upgrading Chal to RLC.
If Jones is OK, the only moves I can see are Naughton to 4.4 and updrage Chal to RLC.

    Anyone help?

      Very top heavy.
      Kun > Jesus
      Sterling > Sane
At least then you have one nailed on City and Jesus can score from the bench.
Leaves you with around 0.7 to get the non starters swapped.

      Same confusion here.

      Confused between Ota & Vertonghen.

Vertonghen has the better fixtures but max points cap is 6-9 points very little attacking threat.

City defence is one injury away from a collapse. Can Mangala & Kompany remain fit and keep clean sheets?
Otherwise Ota might just be a complete waste.

So Phil Jones owners, what is your plan?

Even if he is declared fit this weekend is he worth hanging on to?

With his ongoing tigh problems his game time will surely be managed (with Smalling,Bailly, Lindelof and Rojo Mou have lots of options), so is he worth keeping knowing he will probably be benched every 2-3 games during this busy schedule until new year?

This. If he’s fit, and doesn’t play midweek, holding. If he misses a game in the busy period, then a bench defender comes in. Man utd get a lot clean sheets, and Jones is relatively inexpensive for the points you get (6-9).

This is the issue for me. He is great value but will he play across Christmas period? If he's out this weekend, I reckon I'll lose him for Daniels.

Bailly injured too... I'd keep, he'll be back in for Lindelof vs Brighton

I'm a non owner, if i had him i would definetly keep for Brighton but after that he have wat(a), ars(a) and manc(h), not the greatest fixturs

Thing is, I only want a United defender when Jones plays anyway and I've had him since the start of the season.

      Easy hold for me.

Personally think I'm just going to leave him. I have 4 other decent enough defenders in Azpi, Bailly, Moreno and Fernandez currently (though that's going to change to Azpi, Moreno, Mee and Daniels over the next few weeks) so I'm not too fussed if he misses the odd game.

    Atsu & Bellerin to who?

    A) Loftus Cheek & Azpiliqueta

    Or

    B) Zaha/Ramsey & Dunk

Saving my FT and doing Aguero + Carroll -> Niasse + Hazard next week looks a no-brainer doesn’t it? Would give me:

    Salah - Hazard - Sterling - Richarlison - Ramsey
    Kane - Morata

And £1m in the bank to either upgrade my defence or do Sterling to Sane.

There’s no way Aguero is worth his price if he isn’t going to be an automatic starter. Not with the options in midfield. Dropping Kane also looking like an increasingly attractive option.

Agree on this plan. Likely doing the same for gw14. Rash discusses this same plan a few posts above.

        Cheers to both of you.

Longer term I’m also really considering:

        Kane + 4.5 DEF -> Lacazette + Alonso

If sterling plays in champions league mid week, surely he will be rested

I used to think the same thing but have Sterling, Aguero and Silva.. got tired of panicking about rotation so thought i would take a punt and done sterling to Pogba... paid off and atleast with Pogba he is nailed and has the form.

Keep for now decide after CL. City’s fixtures are better than the United till the Derby.

How nailed is Christensen? Or in other words, whats latest with Luiz?

Will you replace Bailey with one of them?

Think both will rotated. Luiz will probaly start midweek games if he starts CL this week.

Assuming Bailly is fit and Mee is going to rise this week, is it worth doing Bailly > Mee this week and lose the potential Bailly points rather than Lowton this week? Is Mee that much better than Lowton.

Mee is far more likely to get bonus points and is due a goal.

Anyone else nailing their VC picks and making terrible C picks?

    Last 8 weeks for me:

    C = 2 + 0 + 6 + 2 + 5 + 1 + 2 + 6 =24 points
    VC = 6, 13, 13, 13, 16, 4, 15, 16 = 96 points

So Silva will most probably be rested for CL this week last time.

Makes no sense to sell him for Pogba if he’s rested right?

    Appreciate your thoughts! 🙂

    Hello, my current team is:

    Gomes - Pope
    Jones - Vertonghen - Ward - Moreno - Mbemba
    Salah - Sane - STERLING - Richarlison - CHOUPO
    JESUS - Kane - Niasse

Over the next two gameweeks I am looking to go down one of two routes:

Route 1: (Chelsea orientated, with one weaker link)
    Morata > JESUS
    Hazard > STERLING
    Loftus-Cheek > CHOUPO

Route 2: (More diverse with a Man United player, no weak links IMO)
    Morata > JESUS
    Pogba > STERLING
    Zaha > CHOUPO

    What do you reckon? 🙂

I've taken a hit and replaced Naisse for Wilson and Doucoure for Loftus Cheek
