Scout Notes – Kane Toils Again

Another underwhelming week for Spurs and their talismanic striker sows further seeds of doubt in the minds of Fantasy managers.

Our confused relationship with Harry Kane continues.

Today’s two-point display in the 1-1 draw at Watford followed back-to-back goals, which sounds reasonable enough.

But three blanks in the past five Gameweeks doesn’t cut the mustard when, at 12.8, you’re the most expensive player in Fantasy Premier League.

Some 59,740 managers paid the premium price to bring the striker in for Gameweek 15, while 857,000+ (15.9%) made him the weekend’s most-captained player.

All that hope came to nought as Kane managed just two shots – both from range, one a free kick – and a meagre two touches in the box.

It was left to Son Heung-min, assisted by Christian Eriksen, to spare Spurs’ blushes after Christian Kabasele had opened the scoring for the hosts from Tom Cleverley’s corner.

Returns for Mohamed Salah (5), Alvaro Morata (8) and, in particular, Eden Hazard’s 15-point haul will again call into question the merits of the Kane captaincy – even with Stoke City at Wembley next.

Spurs’ form is the major concern. They’ve hit just four goals – only Huddersfield and Swansea City have managed fewer – and earned a mere five points in the last six Gameweeks now.

Kane does have two of those goals, but the confidence seems to be leeching from Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

They’ve even lost the knack of making up for their deficiences at Wembley with results on the road – today’s draw was the first points they’ve earned away since Gameweek 7.

Kane is now experiencing sales, only Leroy Sane is suffering more, with owners either doing rage transfers or feeling that his 19 points from the last five Gameweeks is scant reward for that price tag.

The problem for some is that there remains no clear or in-form replacement, aside perhaps from Morata.

Romelu Lukaku now has just one goal from his last eight starts, while Man City’s stellar options are blighted by Pep Guardiola’s continued appetite for rotation.

The Kane to Morata move is the second most popular transfer taking place this evening. Interestingly, Roberto Firmino is the next most popular Kane replacement, as managers look to clear funds for midfield investment.

Spurs defence stretched

Spurs’ attack is stalling, their defence close to crisis.

Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier returned at full-back and, with the Champions League to come in midweek, they will likely feature at home to Stoke next Saturday.

But starts are simply not enough in a backline that’s kept one clean sheet in six matches.

And a red card for Davinson Sanchez – he’ll now miss the home fixtures with Stoke and Brighton and the massive trip to Man City – was the last thing a creaky defence needed while Toby Alderweireld remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Eric Dier will have to move back into the defence to cover for that, but it could get worse still – Jan Vertonghen picked up a yellow card at Vicarage Road and is now just one more caution away from suspension.

Richarlison stalls

Another player to see yellow was Watford’s Richarlison – his third of the season – which meant just a single point for the popular Brazilian.

He’s now delivered just an assist from the last three Gameweeks for his 20.4% ownership, although the underlying stats suggest no need to panic.

He’s actually had more penalty area touches than any other midfielder over that spell (25), as well as seven shots in the box.

Even so, there are cheaper in-form options in Pascal Gross (6.0) and Xherdan Shaqiri (6.1) than the 6.6-priced winger, who is suffering some sales, having steadily increased in ownership since Gameweek 7, as a result.

Elsewhere for Watford, centre-back Kabesele’s goal was his second in five Gameweeks, underlining his increased threat from set-pieces, despite delivering those goals from just four shots.

still to get to those positions requires different level of skill set

i bet if mignolet was in goal for united in that game arsenal would have won comfortably

The double save was very impressive, not sure about "different level of skill set". He didn't pull off one world class save. The hyperbole by some is a little over the top.

Myhill at Spurs a few years back, that was far more impressive.

Would you go without any City players at all to get Hazard?

I have funds for Sane, Silva to Hazard, Ramsey.

Other ways to get Hazard in is by downgrading either DDG, Azpi or Kane. Or should i go without Hazard since I have Morata?

I ditched Kane to get Hazard a few hours ago so whilst my front 3 aren't as strong (Morata, Firmino, DCL), I am happier overall with my front 8 (also Silva, Ramsey, Richarlison, Harard, Coutinho). I just can't persist with Kane anymore. Have 1. Itb

of course it looks bad in super slow mo. If you play football you know you have to sometimes go with a toe in to get to the ball first, he missed the ball and ‘planted’ on Bellerin’s leg. It was a very bad challenge but in no way in real time is that intentional

Where was the deflection? The ball was out of reach, it could have been deflected 50 times, he couldn't get there.

And using the term "comprising position" certainly suggests you're defending Pogba. Bellerin's knee was on the floor, how is that compromising?

The thing bellarin did was pure indoor football stuff. The stuff you do when playing on turf.
People do like that when they try to avoid a nutmeg, had bellarin not gone in that position, it wouldn't have been foul.

Since he was in that position and with pogba running towards the ball, it exposed bellarins leg which came in the way pogba was running.

it is the club's right to appeal but they'd have zero chance of winning, you even said it was reckless yourself.

He can appeal but he probably won't. Unlike others I think it was just an unlucky follow-through on a challenge but you aren't allowed to do that any more.

It's a definite red, but like others have mentioned Bellerin's attempt to block it was more of a 5 aside sweep so I can forgive Pogba. Not like he has a history of dirty challenges

        Need to get Hazard...so need to pick one of these;
        A. Kane and Calvert-Lewin
        B. Lacazette and Firmino
Like the look of B. But is it crazy to sell Kane? Would you prefer A or B? In A I would be selling Firmino, and in B selling Kane. Thanks.

Anyone considering Lacazette as an option up front? Arsenal's fixtures look good and I'm still worried Ramsey's hamstring will go soon

Rotation and being taken off early is the real worry with Lacazette, yesterday was the first time Lacazette played 90mins in the league since GW 1. Would be a great option otherwise. But with this issue, I much prefer Ramsey

Also, he doesn't seem to fare very well with bonus points, so he requires multiple goals/assists for a big score

Best way to get extra fundsvto do Pogba to Hazzard?
        Need another 1m.
        (0.1m short of Wilson->Calvert Lewin)

        Pope Elliot
        Mustafi Daniels Otamendi Dunk Ward
        Pogba Sterling Gross Salah Carroll
        Kane Morata Wilson
        2 FT 1.8m

I said I'd be 0.1m short for DCL to get the 1.0m needed. Niasse is just enough, but not really a lock to play.

Which of these would u choose?
        Either WC or not..

        1. Settle for this going into next GW (Hold WC)
        Fabianski.
        Kolasinac, Daniels, Christensen.
        Ramsey, Richarlison, Sterling, Salah.
        Kane, Morata, Vardy.
        Elliot, Mee, Carroll, Mbemba.
        0ft, 0.2m in bank.

        2. WC to something like this-
        Pope, Speroni.
        Christensen, Kolasinac, Otamendi, Dunk, Feminia.
Hazard, Salah, Sterling, Ramsey, Loftus- Cheek.
        Kane, Firmino, Calvin-Lewin.
        WC, 0.0m in bank.

Does anyone know when they confirm the specific kick off times for the games scheduled for the weekend of the 3rd February?

Or at least where I could find when the times are confirmed?

Should be around 1 weeks' time, they are usually settled 6-8 weeks or so in advance.

Look at your FPL page, click on Premier League and 'broadcast' and you'll see where they are up to on broadcast schedules.

I see Niasse as a problem but am 0.1 short of DCL.

        DDG (Pereira)
        Moreno - Daniels - Ward - Naughton - Mbemba
        Hazard - Sarah - Sané - Richarlson - RLC
        Kane - Morata - Niasse

Got in Hazard this gw but failed to put the armband on him (went Kane)

I think my previous decision had an impact on this

Two times i captained a midfeilder this season (Salah Sane) they blanked. Anyone else faced similar circumstances?

Same here. I had Kane and persisted with giving him the armband except last week when i went with Morata and back to Kane this week...I have consistently failed so rage traded Kane today and got Hazard in...am sure i will find a way to continue to bugger things up...

Opposite for me. Kane (C) fail too many times this season. Don’t trust him and Spurs right now and I’m giving him the next two to prove his worth. Captained Haz last week as well but that didn’t turn out well.

He's been injured a few times this season, mainly because he's so integral to club and country and they rush him back. I don't think he's injured just being eased back in. Usually scores Vs Everton too
