Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Relentless Kane Rolls On

Harry Kane emphatically breaks more records and the hearts of those Fantasy managers who risked turning their back on his talents ahead of an impending blank.

The Spurs striker made it back-to-back hat-tricks from a blisteringly productive festive schedule so far. In doing so, he shattered Alan Shearer’s Premier League record for goals in a calendar year.

Those Fantasy managers who showed patience and held on to Kane will be overjoyed, but now have another difficult decision ahead of them.

They will face a dilemma with a second consecutive 17-point to sweeten the pill, but two hat-tricks in the space of three days cannot shift the fact that Kane now has a blank to come.

More than 131,000 managers had brought him in for the 5-2 win over Southampton regardless of that blank, with 1,161,712 making him the most-captained player of Gameweek 20.

They are now part of a 41.2% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership that must decide whether to stick or twist on the forward.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata is an obvious replacement for Gameweek 21, and he made his case with a first goal since Gameweek 15. To add to the Spaniard’s appeal, the Blues entertain Stoke City next and the Potters, already without Kurt Zouma, saw their skipper Ryan Shawcross limp off today.

But the downside of selling Kane involves cost – in both price and transfers expended.

His value is on the move. It rose to 12.9 ahead of Boxing Day and could increase again before Gameweek 21 with a number of managers either oblivious to, or simply not caring about, his blank.

Some 33,000 have already transferred him in for his non-existent Gameweek 21, so should his price rise again, those selling him could lose profit as well as the two transfers the transaction will cost – assuming, that is, that they bring Kane back for fixtures with Swansea City and West Ham. That is surely a given.

Ignoring Kane for that upcoming pair of attractive fixtures seems untenable. He will be the most-captained for Gameweek 22 and, those with the Triple Captain chip in hand will surely consider putting it in play on the back of Kane’s confidence and devastating form.

Spurs Midfield stake their claim

Kane isn’t the only member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad who warrants consideration ahead of the double-header.

Son Heung-min is building a convincing case.

The midfielder started his sixth straight match against Southampton and produced a goal, two assists and a bonus point for a second double-digit haul of that run.

In fact, Son has managed four goals and as many assists from those six matches and although he’s currently the fourth most bought player despite the blank Gameweek 21, he’s still only owned by 3.9%.

Previously far more popular, Dele Alli (11.5%) is also enjoying a min-revival.

He followed up his brace of assists at Burnley with two more, and a goal, against the Saints, with two bonus points pushing his Gameweek tally to a season’s best 15.

Son’s 8.0 price and his considerably more consistent recent form will ensure that the South Korean is favoured, with Alli reduced to an unlikely Gameweek 22 differential.

The same will probably apply to Christian Erisken. The Dane’s assist was dwarfed by other performances, but marked a fifth return in six Gameweeks.

Elsewhere, it remains difficult to justify investment in the Spurs defence.

Pochettino’s rotation policy concerning his wing-backs is now confusing everyone but him, with Serge Aurier (0.5%) handed a second straight start – and his third in four matches – as Kieran Trippier (5.8%) joined Ben Davies on the bench.

With the points potential of Spurs’ wing-backs now difficult to predict, the side’s lack of defensive stability – they’ve kept just two clean sheets since Gameweek 12 – further dampens the appeal of recruitment for the forthcoming double.

I would like to do morata and Richarlison to Firminio and Son for double game week but it means getting rid of Morata now before playing at home to Stoke and hoping son doesn't rise. It's a tough one. I have 2 free transfers but don't want son yet.

Is anyone getting rid of de gea? Ever since I doubled up on him and Jones their defence has gone to shite.

    #Kanexit

If you got Firmino and Coutinho in for, say, Kane and DCL - surely you would be better off overall?

Those Liverpool guys have killed it in the last five week.

Not If you captain kane every week

      1. diesel001

        Kane(c) + DCL for last 5 weeks = 98 + 15 = 113 pts
        Coutinho(c) + Firmino for last 5 weeks = 76 + 39 = 115 pts

If you were really good you would have taken Kane + DCL out 6 weeks ago for Coutinho and Firmino because then you would have picked up the Liverpool haul against Brighton.

Anyone think Luke Shaw will come good?

Looked very attacking on MOTD, was playing Alonso-esque, getting shots in.

In a good defence with good fixtures, only 4.9m. Might be the only leftback if Darmian goes in January.

Are we still loading up on Westham defense? It seems their recent good defensive form was only because of bus parking against top teams. Since then, against two rubbish teams like Bournemouth and Newcastle they conceded 6 goals. I still see a Burnley defender a better option even with alternating good and bad fixtures. Tempted to just ride out the Tarkowski suspension. I'd only consider Adrian from Westham.

So its been nearly 3 gw's since Jay took the mammoth 12 point hit. Lets see how it panned out

          Hennessey/Speroni(8points with a game in hand) --> DDG (5pts)

          Gross(15 points) ---> Richarlison (9 points)

          Kane (35 points) ----> Bony(1 point)

RLC (13 points with a game in hand) ---> Silva (3 points with a game in hand)

          -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Points by Players he sold = 71pts

Points by Players he got = 18 pts (12 point hit)

          Net = 65 points

Woahh 65 points swing if my math is not wrong. Real Season defining moment 😉

The point being, you've conveniently windowed this over 2 GWs

Not until the end of the season will anyone know whether it was good/bad.

A long haul of DDG/Silva/Richarlison points over 19 GWs might quite possibly outscore Kane+beans that they replaced.

Windowing it over 2 GWs is false

People dumped Kane after the City game. Has scored 34pts since then.

              However, Kane(c) + Richarlison = 68 + 7 = 75pts
              to
              Firmino(c) + Coutinho = 48 + 21 = 69pts

So you would be only slightly worse off. There are a lot who did this, but we don't hear about them, because it doesn't make a good story. In fact if you took Kane and Rich out for Firmino and Coutinho at any point in the last 3/4/5/6 weeks you would be better off.

All about timing. And I am a Kane owner and (c).

True. I believe this is where luck plays its part. Spurs neither had the form nor the fixtures to indicate big scores were on the way. On the other hand City, Liverpool have been in relentless form for some GWs now. Kane holders want to make you believe those who sold are all casuals. Those who sold at the right time and caught the hauls of City and Liverpool mids are still probably still better off and have gained massive TV on top as well.

Yup. Would've very likely sold had Morata not taken 5th YC but it would've been for Firmino + Coutinho. All about timing and luck plays a big part short term.

This week, I've actually outscored a lot of my ML rivals with Kane(c) even though I sold him about a month ago

My numerous strong non-Kane players are more than making up for him...Salah, Firmino, Morata, Azpi, Hazard, Richarlison...

Hazard was unlucky not to haul yesterday...goal-line clearances and all that.

Still got Sterling and Silva to pile on too

All these "disasterous Kanexit" posts probably aren't being borne out in real life.

Something similar. I'm currently -9 on Kanexit. Sold Kane last week for Aguero, who I then sold to Morata. (17 + 17 - 16 - 6) - 3 as I would have captained Sterling v BOU.

9 points with Morata's score to come v Stoke - Gross's score v New (who would have started instead).

If Morata scores Stoke, it is break even. Minus the value of two transfers. The 'sliding doors' phenomenon that Jay refers to would point to the transfer I would have done (Phil Jones) in the meantime and how this would impact my future team and transfers.

Not ideal, but no harm done and no major regrets.

Every time a top player hauls, statically they have a greater chance of a blank the next game week ....

                        Firmino definitely won't

My previous experience of Firmino ownership tends to be "own for 2 months...score 2pts each week, sell, hauls"

Owning him when he's hauling is something of an aberation for me 🙂

Does it? That would imply chasing anti-form.

Yip - only for the top players though .... they simply don’t become bad players over night and always turn around their form. They also only sustain a run of hauls for 3 or 4 games before a couple of blanks

I would be buying Hazard now if I had the cash and DGWs were not around the corner

Oh, missread Kabasele as Ogbonna haha. Maybe downgrade Rooney and upgrade RLC? If you don't have funds for City mid maybe look to bring in Arnautovic or Son for the double?

Goalie transfer could be an option as well? Swansea is horrible atm.

Yeah...Swansea at home though. I've been working ways to raise funds for Alonso in for him.

Haz Rich Kabasele > Son Arnautovic Alonso (-4), or could just wait for after Arsenal game. That is the best I can come up with but still no transfer for this week.
