Scout Notes – Aguero Goes Big

A four-goal blast and the season’s top Gameweek score from Sergio Aguero lights up Man City’s 5-1 win over Leicester City, bringing joy and anguish to Fantasy managers far and wide.

What a difference a week makes.

Some 16.59% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers – close to a million overall – captained Sergio Aguero to a dispiriting two-point haul at Burnley last Saturday.

It was a decision compounded by Mohamed Salah’s double and 15 points the next day against Spurs.

Only 13.14% had handed the armband to the Egyptian, and it was clear that they weren’t going to make the same mistake when today’s deadline came around.

Salah is this Gameweek’s most-captained player, with 1,265,000+ (22.06%) hoping for big things from tomorrow’s trip to Southampton.

Some will have doubtless transferred their allegiance from Aguero, who was captained by 778,000 (13.56%) managers ahead of today’s outing.

Keeping faith in the City striker produced a season-best 21-point haul as he fired a second hat-trick in four Gameweeks – and his third of the season – in the demolition of the Foxes.

Salah is outstanding, but he’ll do well to get anywhere close to Aguero’s tally, which could be hugely significant for many overall rankings and mini-leagues.

Aguero has now scored nine goals in six Gameweeks and has 11 from his last five home matches.

Those home comforts are extreme – he’s scored 66 points in his last five matches at the Etihad Stadium, with a mere 16 from his previous five away fixtures.

Aguero is now up to 7.3 points per match, second only to that man Salah among outfield players, although his biggest haul arrives just as we’re forced to re-assess City’s assets.

Guardiola’s men now play three times before they resume Gameweek action – in Basel, at Wigan in the FA Cup and against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final.

That not only offers the risk of injury and suspension, but there’s also the added scenario where if Wigan take City to a replay – not out of the question if Guardiola fields a second string XI – then the Gameweek 28 fixture with Arsenal will be postponed.

Aguero is already attracting big interest in the FPL market – he is second for transfers in currently – but, in truth, investing now is a risk.

The reality could be that his window may have passed as Guardiola indicated in Friday’s press conference that Gabriel Jesus might only be ten days from a return.

Certainly, having been pushed into six successive 90 minutes since Jesus’ injury at Crystal Palace, we can expect some rest for Aguero once the Brazilian returns. A rotation policy will likely resume, particularly if Aguero is seen as the favoured option for European ties.

De Bruyne & Sterling chip in

While Aguero dominated, the efforts of City’s key midfield assets should not be overlooked.

Raheem Sterling was the fourth most sold player ahead of the Gameweek, with 105,000+ managers moving him out.

He punished the doubters with a goal and has now produced a goal or an assist in eight of his last 10 starts.

Kevin De Bruyne, meanwhile, provided a hat-trick of assists, moving him to 16 for the season, which is four more than any other player.

He has 45 points from his last five home matches and his 13 points today was his eighth double-figure haul of the season, six of which have come at the Etihad.

The Belgian has managed just one goal across the last nine Gameweeks, but eight assists over that spell is a decidedly pleasant second prize for his 22.9% ownership.

The only dampener on the day was City’s defence, which continues to falter.

With just one clean sheet from their last six Gameweeks now, Nicolas Otamendi – the top owned defender in the game (31.3%) – is looking increasingly vulnerable.

His plight is not helped by the fact that he started his 15th successive match in all competitions today, with a rest surely beckoning soon.

Otamendi was sold by 50,000 this week, and those sales will likely pick up now the fixtures are stiffening, with Arsenal and Chelsea up next for Guardiola’s men.

Four in four for Vardy

Leicester briefly threatened to make a match of it when Jamie Vardy scored for the fourth successive Gameweek – the first time he’s managed that since his record 11-in-a-row spree from the Foxes’ title-winning year.

And Riyad Mahrez finally made an appearance following his transfer window shenanigans, starting on the bench before coming on after 61 minutes.

The Algerian has lost 469,000 owners since his non-transfer tantrum, but Leicester’s schedule is strong enough for him to start rebuilding bridges promptly.

The Foxes play only two of the top six over the remaining 11 matches, although they will miss Gameweek 31 if they can see off Sheffield United in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

one of the biggest decision that didnt pan out. (unfortunately i made the wrong decision but at that time firmino looked the better value option.

The irony for me was that I favoured Kane over Salah because I felt Cech was shot over the last few matches. Then he puts in a blinder. I could have done with him replicating Swansea antics. Turns out Schmeichel was watching instead.

So the original plan was Aguero -> Firmino this week. I’m a fixtures kinda guy, but I don’t think I can bring myself to ditch Sergio after that. Makes sense to bring in a LIV player this week though....

Anything better than Martial -> Mane (funded by an Alonso/Lingard downgrade?) Dunk also has a decent fixture this week so I can even bench the cheapie (eg Mili).

    Pickford
    Alonso, Francis, Gomez
    Salah, Sterling, Martial, Lingard
    Kane, Aguero, Wilson

    Elliot, Dunk, Ogbonna, RLC
    Bank 0.1m, 2FT

Is that what they said? He is a more complete player under pep than ever before. I'd say he's peaking this season.
Whether or not he's as predictable a fpl pick is another matter. I'd say yes but for different reasons these days.
Anyway anybody that outsources their decisions in a game to a podcast deserve what they get.

true that brother! Agree with you on kun being more complete this season. His creativity outdoes most forwards added to his significant goal threat, though this upcoming run will be tricky for owners.

Indeed. Used to be if the defenders can keep aguero quiet that's half the battle. Now if defenders can keep him away from goal he is more than happy to do the legwork and make space for the others to exploit. This city juggernaut is incredible. Kdb one of my all time favourite players now. Hope he cleans up with Belgium at the world cup and gets the ballon dor.

Yes what to do with aguero when jesus is ready and a presumed blank in 31 is a big call for owners.

So Kun is in incredible form with 8 goals in 4 and many still avoiding him?

    ars CHE sto BHA eve

fixtures are even not that bad. arsenal defence is shaky. spurs couldve scored 3 or 4 this gw. why cant city?

and chelsea are in such poor form and conceded 3 goals against bournmouth and 4 against watford

so kun likely to start in next 4-5 gws in pl

I don't think Aguero will get rotated all that much. Pep wants to win everything, Aguero's form is excellent and Jesus isn't even back in training yet following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

I think Aguero gets a rest for Wigan and a max of 1 rest in the PL before we all WC in GW32/33. Definitely a hold if you have him, and probably still a buy if you don't.

      • 11 Years

exactly might get the odd rest but i think he starts most games and gets hauled off early around 70 mins mark if city are leading comfortably.

once jesus reach full fitness which might take 2-3 weeks we could see more rotation though

    Absolulety horrible few weeks.
Been basically trying to put out fires but the biggest 1 was not owning Aguero afterall.

    Pickford.
    Jones, Otamendi, Mee.
    Sterling, Salah, Pogba, Wally.
    Kane, Firmino, Wilson.
    Speroni, Rich, Ogbonna, Kenny.

    2ft, 1.0m in bank.

Otamendi out may be a start?

Was planning on Kun > Kane this week but dont think I can trade out a player who just scored 4.
My options to get Kane in are
    1) Kun > Kane
    2) Sanchez and Mcburnie > Kane and T.Carroll

    My front 8 is currently
    Sanchez Salah Sterling Walcott Ramsey
    Kun Firmino (Mcburnie)

There is nly one poster that constantly blames them for making wrong decisions himself. The rest just point out if the scoutcast members make a collective bad call.

Granville himself was mocking the group thinking when it came to pickford now he''s put his own little spin to this

This site is not the be all and end all anymore, most have migrated to Twitter and you can get plenty of stats and analysis elsewhere, there's other sites with equally as good tools and in-game info/team news etc.

What did he say wrong? He was right, Many here take all the credit for their moves when they work out, then turn round and blame the scouts when it dosent.
Most the boasters, crowing about their ranks owe those ranks to fantasy scout, so it a bit rich when they turn around and demand to know why they were not told to triple capt Aguero this week

To be honest I didn’t even listen to the last scoutcast,
I just read the comments on the DZ.

I am talking abt the general attitude of most of the scoutcast members. They use a tone of superiorty thinking they are above the majority of the community. They want to take all the credit when they make good decisions yet can’t take the stick when things don’t go their way. Ultimately we are all responsible for our own choices.

Back in the days the scoutcast was much more entertaining than it is now tbh.

What he said was completely right, being arrogant and suggesting the site should be closed down for a few weeks was not, read him laughing at about Pickford on Twitter, seems he's above people giving it back.

Bet Mark spat out his coffee when he read that suggestion when looking at his company bank account because of all the ungrateful members of this community.

Tbh, most of the posts here are from weak-minded individuals who can't make decisions. It's alright to ask for advice, but pretty much everyone turns around and blames a poster who told them to do X or Y or the Scoutcast team after the event.
