Team Analysis – Assessing Ramsey’s QPR

After taking time out to assess Tim Sherwood’s impact at Villa Park, we analyse the performances of QPR under Chris Ramsey as both clubs prepare for a double Gameweek 31. In terms of results, the new man in charge has been unable to arrest his side’s decline – aside from a win at fellow strugglers Sunderland, the R’s have lost six of seven fixtures since the departure of Harry Redknapp.

Although they’ve failed to score in just one of those encounters, the Loftus Road outfit have notched more than a single goal in only one match since Ramsey was installed – that victory over the Black Cats. In terms of defensive prospects, QPR have one clean sheet (yet again courtesy of the Sunderland match) and have conceded at least twice in each of the last five matches of Ramsey’s tenure.

With trips to West Brom and Villa on the horizon, then, we delve into the data to see whether the underlying numbers can afford a little more optimism.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    What would you recommend?

    Myhill Foster
    Terry Clyne Toby Dawson Wolly
    Sanchez Silva Eriksen Hazard Boyd
    Aguero Kane Austin

2FT, 1.0m ITB, WC in hand.

Sanchez out to someone up to £7.3m?
    Aguero out?
    Wolly out?
    Foster out?

    Thanks in advance

With that WC, I 'd drop Foster or Wolly. But not sure how they'll do much between now and WC. I'd even be tempted by Boyd > DGW mid - usual suspects.

Thanks - agree with you about defence transfers probably not making that much difference.

Need to use one though - not sure right now what to do.

That was one transfer I was considering.

Tempted to downgrade Sanchez so can shift Austin next week.

    Scouters,

Sturridge - Benteke - Kane front line.
Wich its the best bet to came in for Daniel?
Money no issue…and WC also to spare.

Tekkers would be a differential, he's owned by 1.7%. Gabby 2.8%. Austin 20%.

Depends how you want to play it.

I can't remember the GW when I had more benching and captain problems.

Have to bench 2 of Fonte (eve), Jenkinson (lei), Schlupp (WHU), PVA (NEW), Sterling (ars).
Captain order right now: Austin, Kane, Aguero, Silva, Hazard

    Panti, Heaton
    Terry, Clyne, Dawson, Naughton, PVA

Messi and Ronado can do things with the ball that some of the old timers could only dream about..The best players that have ever played the game are those two.

Not sure if I'm being nostalgic but memories of Maradonna, Laudrup, even Cooper, Ritchie & Dalglish outway anything I seem to see now.
Many times we came away from a game of little highlight but talk for days about what we'd seen.
Those flashes of individual skill or showmanship are very rare these days imo.

Yeah..we'll never know...and that's why M42COLM is right in what he says. Players get better and better but that's not the same as saying those others wouldn't have been even better in the modern day. But the upshot is the best players who ever played are in the hear and now for many reasons...

Let's just accept great players for what they are/were

Each person named lit up their own era in their own way. To say that one was better than an other feelings like trivialising that

How many players would have even thought about trying, let alone actually pull off, that dummy of Pele's in 1970

It would be hard to argue against Messi & Ronaldo as the finest players ever to play the game, for their ability & fitness in the modern era it would be hard to see Pele & Maradonna stand up to the current day demands.
What I miss is the real maverick pieces of skill which to me were more common place.
e.g 30 years a lot of teams had a maverick, potential matchwinner but highly inconsistent. I watched a number over the years in Scotland.
Sadly now,the modern game has less room for them or these players get signed by the 'big teams' and spend their career on the bench or as a bit part impact player.
As I said before, i guess there's a fair bit of nostalgia thrown in there. 😉

From what I've seen, so the last 20 years, probably Messi. As Dr Wakooka says, it is overlooked because of how good he is at everything else, but his passing is phenomenal in both vision and execution. Xavi, Iniesta, Pirlo, Scholes and Zidane are all up there.

From what I've heard and seen from clips, though just before my time, Michael Laudrup was incredible.

The bizarre aspect of this is that the players you suggest (and most of the suggestions above) are all current players. This makes "of all time" pretty redundant.

I don't know who was the best passer of all time but Alfredo di Stefano and Johnny Haynes were both exceptional.

Not sure it's bizarre - the majority of users of this site are probably below 25 and are only really in a position to put forward those who they've seen a lot of (either in the flesh or on tv). This is the inevitable nature of any 'greatest' discussion I'm afraid.

I'm a little older so I can stretch back a little further than some but not far enough to have any knowledgable view on the greats of the 1950s that you've mentioned.

"Of all time" is what is bizarre. The assumption is that people can compare current players with ones they have never seen, even on video.

I've got to stand up for Duncan Edwards here: "he had every talent. He was the best short passer. He was the best long passer. He had terrific vision. His 60-70 yard passes with a heavy ball were pinpoint accurate." - Sir Bobby Charlton

I see the gender-related dysfunction continues... can everyone please forgive and forget?

I read the original post, and ironically the lads were trying to defend women's rights, while inadvertently stereotyping women. There was sexism, a little ignorance, and a fair amount of confusion and mis-communication. I saw some sincere apologies, and I perceive that intentions were generally honorable.

Whats this from Ross Barklay saying he's a striker?
Cant see it myself. I'd say he has slipped a bit this season but still think he's Englands future if they use him right. Really think he needs to go to a Man Utd or a Liverpool though.

It annoys me when players come out and make these ridiculous comments.

It backs the manager into an unnecessary corner and the player is applying pressure. How about just play your best, try your hardest and listen to your manager/coaches instead of making excuses for your poor form.

I agree, I think you need to be obvious world class potential best player in the world to be saying where you should play.

They all think they're strikers. Then they get a chance to play there, realise there's more to it than scoring goals and slink back to their old position hoping nobody remembers.

I could save the transfer. Don't want to part with Giroud but the DGW coupled with the fact that I'll have to take him out in a couple of weeks is tempting me.

Have Aguero and Kane so don't see any point in doing anything with them.

Ivanovic-Clyne-Bellerin-Schlupp-Naughton my backline atm. Got a transfer to burn and need a cheapie with good fixture next week, so Bellerin will go, but for who?

I don't see Burnley and Palace away as easy fixtures for Kane or Aguero. Kane's form is ridiculous though. Still unsure who to captain tossing up between Austin, Hazard, Kane and Aguero.
