Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Pre-Season

Tom Ince hits his third goal of pre-season as Huddersfield Town lose in Germany, while a Stefano Okaka strike is enough for Watford to seal their first victory of the summer.

Here are Tuesday’s notes.

SV Sandhausen 3 Huddersfield Town 2

Summer recruit Tom Ince scored for the third consecutive match as Huddersfield slumped to a 3-2 defeat against their Bundesliga 2 opponents.

The midfielder, currently one of only three Terriers players enjoying more than 2% Fantasy Premier League ownership, curled home from the edge of the area after coming on at half-time.

Pre-season goalscoring exploits always need to be taken with a generous measure of salt – Burnley’s Andre Gray (9 goals) being a prime example last summer – but Ince’s form is welcome for those of us looking for an asset to exploit Huddersfield’s kindly start to the season (pal, NEW, SOT, wham, LEI, bur).

Elsewhere, club record signing, Benin forward Steve Mounie, was also on the scoresheet – his second goal in as many matches since his move from Montpellier.

Both goals were set up by Rajiv van La Parra.

The match was rather less memorable for defender Martin Cranie, who was brought on after 54 minutes and promptly had a hand in two of the German side’s goals, including the concession of the penalty that proved to be the difference between the two teams.

Town coach David Wagner again stuck to his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation and made a raft of changes at both half-time and on the hour-mark.

But a number of players remain unavailable to him. Tommy Smith (foot), Nahki Wells (ankle), Jon Gorenc Stankovic (knee) and Michael Hefele (Achilles) are injured, while Aaron Mooy is still on extended leave following Australia’s participation in the Confederations Cup. Meanwhile, Scott Malone suffered a knock and was forced off on 40 minutes.

Huddersfield Town XI: Lossl (Coleman 46); Scannell (J Williams 46), Jorgensen (Edmonds-Green 75), Schindler (Cranie 46), Malone (Lowe 41); Hogg (van La Parra 60), Whitehead (D Williams 60); Kachunga (Billing 60), Palmer (Lolley 46), Quaner (Ince 46); Depoitre (Mounie 60).

Viktoria Plzen 0 Watford 1

A Stefano Okaka goal 10 minutes from time handed Watford their first victory of pre-season.

The striker, currently the Hornets’ only fit first team forward, scored from close range having been set up new signing Will Hughes.

The former Derby County midfielder had been handed 20 minutes by coach Marco Silva to make a good first impression, and he did just that.

Silva again employed a 4-2-3-1 formation in a match in which neither goalkeeper was overly busy, but right-back Brice Dja Djédjé at least caught the eye, coming on at half-time and impressing in an unfamiliar role on the left flank.

Etienne Capoue was again deployed as part of the attacking midfield three behind the striker, with Ben Watson and Abdoulaye Doucouré occupying the roles in the double pivot.

Watford XI: Gomes (Pantilimon 60); Janmaat, Prödl, Kabasele, Holebas (Dja Djédjé 46); Watson, Doucouré; Berghuis (Amrabat 46), Capoue (Hughes 68), Success (Sinclair 68); Okaka.

If you're looking at someone the same value or less then I'd even go Austin over Gabi. £0.5m less and I feel he'll get as much game time and probs score more. Need to keep a Saints player in there somewhere

West Ham have got themselves a real magician in Marko Arnautavic.

the guy can make himself disappear from games at the drop of a hat..you might not even see him for weeks then boom, he reappears in spectacular style doing things you might see a world class footballer do.

While centre-back Lewis Dunk is expected to be a Bonus Points System (BPS) darling, having averaged a CBI every 7.73 minutes last season, Suttner’s numbers are reasonable for a full-back and, alongside his attacking threat, offer promise regarding his Fantasy potential.

Kdb because he his nailed and looked really good towards the end of the season. Sane looked dangerous but struggles with his end product..Easy to downgrade from De Bruyne if Sane also.

This for me is the real dilemma people should be discussing. i think it depends on team, i like the look of a team with sane a lot more but it leaves you feeling you don't have that premium midfielder

KDB. More likely to be the mid you lock in and never have to worry about particularly with the speculation around Sanchez and Hazards injury.

Eriksen also provides that comfort ... but why not both 😀

    Foster Heaton
    Lindelof Trippier Cedric Daniels 4.0

              See previous. 🙂

              Here is an alternative:

              GW 1:

              Foster
              Monreal, Cedric, Tomkins
              Eriksen, Willian, Coutinho(c), Phillips, Fraser
              Kane(vc), Lukaku

              Heaton; Crouch, Daniels, Dummett … 0, 0.0 ITB, TV: 100.0, SV: 100.0

Please dont laugh, but apparently Sturridge is in the best shape of his life (according to himself and Klopp)
I know its very unlikely but lets assume he can stay healthy for a while..

How will this impact Firmino? Will Sturridge be first choice if he shows signs of 2014 form/fitness?
How would you rate Studge as an FPL prospect at 8.0m?

This. And it will negatively impact Firmino because he either moves out wide or to the bench. I haven´t seen Mane in any RMT, he will come good as well.

I think Firmino and Sturridge will rotate. Sturridge when Liverpool needs pace and against easier teams and around CL-matches.

If Sturridge can stay fit of course he is an excellent option but that's a big if

He won't be first choice as Klopp doesn't rate his work rare.

Liverpool fan here, imo very unlikely Klopp will start anyone other than Firmino up front because his pressing and workrate is so much better than Sturridge and he really suits Klopp's style & gameplan. We did play 2 up top at the end of the season but I reckon this was forced upon Klopp due to the absence/unavailability of genuine wingers, unlikely now with Salah and Mane available

    Foster
    Lindelof - Ake - Cedric - Trippier
    Eriksen - Willian - Cout - Alli
Laca - Lukaku. (Elliot - RLC - Crouch- Rangel).

I decided to go against the band-wagon and go with both Alli and Eriksen to cover up for Kane. Can always downgrade one MF to upgrade Erik/Alli to Kane ( Laca to Kane). Clever?

Just saying - i previously had Kane Ramsey but switched to Lacazette, Eriksen (with Alli) just like you. Feel like that duo will do better in terms of fpl points. What scares me though is that Kane is capable of so much. He will score a hattrick for fun. 29 goals with 500 minutes less played last goals. If I told you he'd score 30+ goals this season would you still go for eriksen+alli ?

          2016/17 - Minutes played / Goals / Assists

          Kane: 2531 / 29 / 7
          Alli: 3043 / 18 / 7
          Eriksen: 3167 / 8 / 15

If Lukaku screws up or even Laca, I'll just downgrade one of Alli/Eriksen to get Kane in. Simple. This team offers me flexibility.

Really think the value is in fullbacks this year. These midpriced midfielders arent gonna do too much. And with 3 big hitters upfront i think itl work well:

    Foster
    Tripper, walker, kolasinac, cedric, daniels
    Alli, willian
    Kaku, kun, laca

0,5m in the bank. Any suggestions to where I should upgrade?
Maybe JRod? But to who. I am a little worried about Gayle.

Could also downgrade KDB and remove JROD and go with Willian and Benteke

Afternoon gents, my first time back on here since 2015/16, couldn't find time for FPL last year due to other commitments.

Due to a shift towards 3 at the back IRL there is a view WBs may be afforded more scoring/assist chances alongside CS. This and the view that a 5/6m defender is more likely to score higher than a MID of similar price.
