The Gameweek 2 Team News

Michail Antonio is available for West Ham’s trip to Southampton. Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is expected to be fit for the home clash against Crystal Palace but West Bromwich Albion’s Jonny Evans is a major doubt for an away day at Burnley.

Swansea City head coach Paul Clement has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the home encounter with Manchester United, though forward Fernando Llorente remains out as he continues to build up his fitness levels after breaking his arm.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe revealed that Jermain Defoe is in contention to start against Watford, after the forward came off the bench in the 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion. A late decision will be made on Simon Francis (hamstring).

Daryl Janmaat, Younes Kaboul and Roberto Pereyra will all miss the trip to Bournemouth after suffering low-grade muscle injuries in the 3-3 draw with Liverpool. Troy Deeney has returned to full training following a groin injury though, while Christian Kabasele (hamstring) and Brice Dja Djédjé (fractured finger) resumed training in the middle of the week and may be available.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the home meeting with West Bromwich Albion.

Jonny Evans (hamstring) looks set to miss West Brom’s trip to Turf Moor, while Gareth McAuley (thigh) and James Morrison (knee) remain sidelined.

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton will be without Izzy Brown for the trip to Leicester City, after the midfielder suffered a hamstring injury during the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that Daniel Sturridge is expected to be fit for the visit of Crystal Palace to Anfield, but Philippe Coutinho and Nathaniel Clyne both remain out due to back injuries.

Mauricio Pellegrino has a fully fit squad to choose from for Southampton’s home clash against West Ham United, with Ryan Bertrand recovering from a minor knock picked up during the goalless draw with Swansea City.

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic will have Michail Antonio available for the trip to Southampton following a hamstring problem, but Manuel Lanzini (knee) will return to training on Monday.

Mark Hughes has confirmed that new signings Bruno Martins Indi, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Jese Rodriguez will all feature in the matchday squad at home to Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger welcomes back Per Mertesacker for the trip to Stoke following a facial injury, while the Arsenal boss also revealed that Shkodran Mustafi and Francis Coquelin will be in the squad. Tomorrow’s match is expected to come too soon for Alexis Sanchez (abdominal injury), though.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman revealed club-record signing Gylfi Sigurdsson will undergo tests over the weekend to assess whether he is ready to feature in Monday night’s trip to Manchester City. Sandro Ramirez (heel injury) is a slight doubt after missing last night’s 2-0 win over Hadjuk Split.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this evening’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

    Hi Peeps,

Thinking of taking Ake out of my team and replacing home with either:

    A) Phil Jones
    B) Cedric

    My preference is A.

Is it a wise move? Or anything else I should be looking at doing?

    1. greghammer95
      • 14 Years
      6 years, 8 months ago

      Don't do it this week.

I'd say review after next week when Bournemouth's fixtures are harder and look at bringing Jones in, don't do it this week though!

    2. Cyril Figgis
      • 12 Years
      6 years, 8 months ago

Surely there are more pressing issues than getting rid of Ake?

If not then just save the FT.

        • 11 Years
        6 years, 8 months ago

Yeah you are both right, I'll leave for now. I could get Jones in by removing Suttner, Meeting or Naughton as I have £0.5 in the bank but trying to keep that incase I need to get Alli or Eriksen in.

    Good day Gentleman

Playing 5 at the back this gameweek due to all their home fixtures

    Good/Bad idea??

    De Gea
    Bertie, Mee, TAA, Walker, Ake
    Salah, Eriksen
    Mounie, Lukaku, Jesus

    Elliot, Willian, Atsu, Carroll

    Is this a decent move?

      1. Kylo 13
        • 6 Years
        6 years, 8 months ago

That was my thinking, well 4 at the back at least.

        5 seems nuts though.

If you had to bench one defender, who would it be?

    2. greghammer95
      • 14 Years
      6 years, 8 months ago

Mee is a good option, Liverpool can't defend, always play the attacker, Willian if priced at 9m you wouldn't hesitate to play and with Hazard/Pedro out he's arguably worth that much due to his pitch time.

Get Willian playing then decide between TAA and Mee, for me its Mee.

Well I got all the waivers I wanted and just dipped into free agency and picked up some more.

A bit of a shame but I guess no one else in the league requested anything which is where draft is going to falter I fear.

Especially when free agency opens mid morning on a working day

I thought this too, but thought more likely to be a back 3 perhaps, or that they just rotate them. Vertongen can also shift onto the left so there could be a situation of 5 players playing 4 games every 5 with a regular rest.

Hmm, problem is I have Sigurdsson too so currently only 2 fit midfielders. I have the impression the other guys in my league don't really look too much into transactions so I could maybe replace Pedro with Ramsey and switch back if he's back in the XI.
