Dugout Discussion – Brighton vs Newcastle

Sunday’s solitary fixture gets underway at 4pm as promoted pair Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United square up at the Amex Stadium.

With many now filling their forward lines with premium frontman, we get the chance to run the rule over a trio of budget midfielders today.

The Seagulls’ Pascal Gross has played a part in all four of his side’s goals so far, serving up two goals and a pair of assists in his last two outings.

He was the second top transfer target for Gameweek 6, with over 381,000 transfers in.

For the Magpies, Matt Ritchie has bagged four assists in his previous three, while Christian Atsu’s goal and assist over his last two starts has also turned heads.

Indeed Ritchie and Atsu, along with team-mates Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba have been subject to heavy investment over the last week, with a combined 783,000+ transfers in.

Newcastle number one Rob Elliot is the most owned player for Sunday’s clash, sitting in 23.7% of squads after conceding just once in his previous three. Yet he is the most benched player in the Gameweek, with over 808,000 naming him among their subs.

How would you sort out this team?

    Fabianski - Elliot
    Alonso - Kolasinac - Mee - Wimmer - Tuanzebe
    Hazard - Alli - Mane - Ritchie - T.Carroll
    Lukaku - Firmino - Abraham

Any thoughts much appreciated... Been falling behind in ML last 3 GWs.

Downgrade Hazard and upgrade Firminho to Kane, Kun, Morata or even Jesus.

2 FTs. Not sure which direction to take when removing Firmino.

    a) Vardy - obvious choice, although I feel he'll be a troll
    b) Jesus - only way for City attack, but rotation?
    c) Chicharito - more money for elsewhere, good fix
    d) Kane - requires a downgrade of Alonso

    Foster, Elliot
    Alonso, Jones, Cedric, Naughton, Mbemba
    Alli, Salah, Antonio, Atsu, Carroll
    Lukaku, Morata, Firmino

Even with limited minutes and being huge rotatation risks Sterling and Sane are racking up the points.

Are they good value and worth owning instead of Silva and KDB?

Not Sterling, but my own opinion from reading Pep's quotes are that Sane lost HIS spot because of a poor pre-season. Feel he will start most games from now on, though for 8.2m, one should expect the occasional benching. We're never captaining him anyway. Just think he's upped his level significantly. Again, only guessing, but think Sterling drops out, Jesus goes to the right and Sane left in Pep's strongest lineup.

I'm saving this week but have penciled in Sane/Silva for Mkhi in GW8. With the current level of 'nailedon-ness', Silva is just ahead, but one or two more weeks and I think Sane will ensure there is no decision to be made. Just don't decide yet and swallow the points loss for 1 more week.

3.4 ITB. 2FTs. Any ideas about this lot?

    Fabianski
    Alonso Kolasinac Mendy Bavies Cedric
    Mkhitaryan Carroll
    Kane Jesus Vardy
    Elliot | Chalobah, RLC, Cork

Looking to do Jesus + Mkhi > Morata + Sanchez with 0.2 to spare (which allows me to wait, and maybe even save the Sanchez transfer till the following week). Do they look like good moves if Sanchez plays well and everyone else is fit?

It's just a choice of filling a slot in the XI with the best available 4.5 mid each week, or with a more expensive (more risky?) player, and downgrading the premium mid to a less expensive (more risky?) option. I'd understand that people prefer balance etc, but I'm quite happy with the set-up at the moment 🙂

    6. Bunk Moreland
      • 8 Years

I'd keep Mkhi for CPL, I guess I would offload Jesus and Mendy (if injured). Morata or Aguero would be my forward picks. Rather Hazard than Sanchez as a mid, but he can wait another gw.

      1. Deulofail
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 7 months ago

Cheers. It's Morata and Sanchez vs Aguero and Hazard. I guess you would go for the latter, but I'm not convinced about Hazard's value. He has real competition from Pedro and Willian, and could be replaced at 60-70 mins frequently, or rested more frequently than last year. Sanchez has more responsibility to put the ball in the back of the net, and he's more selfish anyway. Just thinking out loud. Thanks for the feedback

I know goalkeepers don't have a lot of options when it comes to gaining extra points but a scenario where they have 6 saves and get 3 bps giving 11 for a CS is a bit much or fair enough?
By point is thee saves points are almost like bonus points anyway.

I'd like to keep Firmino but can you see anything else to do here? Vardy in being the obvious move.

    2 FTs

    Kane, Lukaku, Firmino

Well I had same team as you last week with 2 FT minus eriksen Clark instead had naughton and alli and decided long to mbemba to avoid price drop. If you aren't worried about long price drop firmino to vardy is the obvious move firmino about to drop vardy good fixtures I'm personally not going to do it with firmino having Newcastle next and mane coming back

I think best thing you can do is wait after midweek games if you don't mind possible price drops between long and firmino. Your team is really strong imo so no need to sweat

I'm not an advocate of ditching Firmino, but as you say there are no obvious moves. Very strong team. If you think Vardy outscores Firmino going forward and there are no injuries in midweek I'd go for it

    Alonso - Bavies - Bertrand - Mee - Long
Alli - Mhki - Brady- RLC - Carroll
    Kane - Lukaku - Firmino
    2FTs 0.0ITB

What to do, I am out of ideas? Don't want to not use a transfer but also ideally have two for GW8.

Maybe get rid of Bertrand or just bank the transfer

Well my Morata differential for one gameweek was good while it lasted. 17 points on his debut for my team 😀

    Sane or Silve guys?

Need to know before the prices.

Sane looks electric. Silva cracking value across the next few games.

Always had a thing for Leroy. He deserves a starting 11 place with his level of talent.

Sane by some distance for me

Silva for the games... Don't think we can consistently guarantee the Sane points in comparison to silva

Flip a coin. Silva is more nailed. Sane is more explosive, 0.1m cheaper and has very low ownership. That can go either way. If he does well his price will go up quickly but if not it is more likely to fall.

      Has to be Silva.

Sane may be electric but Silva is playing each game guaranteed and involved in everything.

IF Sane is consistently starting each game (and playing 80mins+) I would consider him, but 1 pointer cameos are not what you want for 8m.

    Thoughts?

Matic... Surely not. There has to be someone better even in that range.

Dam I need to get rid of Willian. So best midfielders for 7 mill?

    Foster
    Davies Jones mee
    Eriksen D.silva Willian brady
    Lukaku Kane Firmino

    Elliot; Carroll, Stephens, Hunemeier
0 mill in the bank and 1FT

    G. Cameron - Martina
    Alli - Atsu
    Joselu - Morata -4

tempted to keep Joselu for one more against Liverpool and just do the Martina transfer

Next 2 fixtures aren't ideal but tempted by Mkhi and Brady to Coutinho and March gw8.

Will give me a front 7 of:
    Salah Coutinho Silva March
    Kane Aguero Vardy

    Thoughts?

    B) Bad moves

2 FT's, is there any need to use them on this defence? I'm playing 4-4-2.

    Thinking City/United defenders are tempting.

    Foster, Elliot
    Maguire, Davies, Cedric, Ward, Dawson

Any mitb? I'd be tempted by Dawson to Jones, and someone to Otamendi if you can afford it

        I've got 0.2m itb.

Could do Dawson > Jones to not have 2 WBA defenders.

Sounds like a good move, I'd go for that, see if today's match changes your mind though on who to take out, Dawson scoring for example could lead to a rise or 2 if they keep a cleanie as well

Seems like a seriously high safety score for this time of the season. I'm safe (barring two sendings-off tomorrow), but not by that much.
