West Bromwich Albion have this evening announced that Nicolas Anelka will resume training tomorrow and will be in line for selection against Swansea on Sunday.
Following the death of his agent Eric Manasse, Anelka was granted compassionate leave for the Baggies visit to Everton last weekend and, amidst rumour that the Frenchman may retire, was not expected to rejoin the first team fold anytime soon.
Having met with manager Steve Clarke earlier today, however, Anelka is now back in the frame and available to his Fantasy owners. His return is timely given that Gameweek 3 presents the conundrum of Chelsea and Aston Villa’s blank fixtures.
In anticipation of a lengthy absence, we’ve seen huge sales of the West Brom striker over the past seven days, with Anelka’s price dropping to 5.4 in the Fantasy Premier League game after almost 150,000 “net transfers out” prior to the Goodison trip.
It remains to be seen if Anelka can earn a recall and produce any semblance of form for the Baggies given recent events. If fit and in the right frame of mind, he would certainly seem likely to start for Clarke’s side who yet to score a Premier League goal this season.
