With the frantic festive period now behind us, we can finally take stock and assess the statistics over the last few matches. Having last looked at the data in Gameweek 17, we have three sets of matches to investigate – Arsenal’s midfield, Tottenham’s attack and United and City’s frontmen are all placed under the microscope this time around:
That is the reaction i gave myself. But dont you think he is a good prospect for C this GW?

As much as I find all the talk of a strong midfield and a strong attack (e.g. all of Hazard, Silva, Wally, Suarez and Aguero) for the winter WC, I'm simply too poor to make this happen, regardless of whether I play 3-4-3 or 3-5-2.
I think I will stick with 4-3-3 with Silva, Wally, Aguero and Suarez with 2 budget mids in my GW24 WCOpen Controls(for the super rich, Özil and Yaya over Wally and Silva)
Open ControlsYou are just missing out Hazard. What is your backline like?
Open ControlsWell I've not decided who I will go with on the WC but I'm thinking:
Kosc + two other defenders I can start every week with 2 cheap defender rotating for the last sport, probably Ward + Bardsley/Brown/Burner/ChesterOpen Controls
TV 101.9 / Selling 100.2
Regular WC still in tact, which explains these figuresOpen Controls
Get a loan. 😛
Open ControlsSilva, Hazard, Wally, Suarez and Aguero should be easilly affordable unless you TV is like 103
Open ControlsSee above 😳
Open Controls
ok I just saw your TV and WOW. How did you let it stay so low?

Kieran gibbs. Anyone going for him as gunners def coverage? Looks like he may well be 5.3 by gw20 too... Kos will prob be 5.7 by that stage 🙂
Open ControlsNah. Got Sagna his crossing is awesome

So is everyone planning to WC for the GW24 games? Seems to make sense to me for the following reasons.... am I missing a trick here?
1) Able to react easily to any material transfers made by clubs
2) Fixtures swing for quite a few of the big clubs, i.e. CHE, LIV, TOT, ARS and MUN have tricky runs (perhaps restrict to 1-2 players from these teams), whereas MCY, EVE, SOT, NEW have a great run (perhaps look to have 2-3 players from some of these teams, especially MCY).
3) Facilitates fixing some calculated punts the week prior (when we get to see 14 teams sheets prior to kick off.Open ControlsI tried this yesterday but didn't articulate it very well and got a well deserved slap-down. I'll try again.
I don't think I'll have a Palace defender on my WC. The reason being that by the time I get one (GW24) they will have already had all their juicy home games. By GW24 they will have already had:
SUN, SWA, FUL, WHM, CAR, NOR, STK, HUL
That leaves WBA & AVL as their only nice home games for the rest of the season.
Sunderland have 7 nice home games remaining. Cardiff have 6. Villa have 5. And Joel Ward will be at least 4.3 by then, so he's no longer mega-cheap, just cheap.
Ideally, you won't want to waste transfers on your 4th & 5th defenders. They're for emergencies and you want to get them now for the rest of the season. So you want players with the best chances of having a good fixture on the unpredictable, randomly chosen week that you end up needing them to play. Palace have a very slim chance (2 in 15) of having a good fixture on a random week.Open ControlsAs someone that was never considering a Palace defender this is good to hear.
Thanks, good work.Open ControlsSound reasoning. Looking at the fixtures from GW24 onwards, there's not many games there that you'd expect a clean sheet from a Palace defender.
Open ControlsNoted. Thanks.
Open ControlsYep iv considered this also, and agree.
Open ControlsGlad you put this on here......thanks! I have 2 Palace defenders and will get rid with the WC.
Open Controlsi wish I could sticky my own posts! 😉
nice one, v useful actually. also someone pointed arsenal's plum fixtures are nearly over by then too.
so people may need to reconsider kos/sagnaOpen ControlsI still might go with 4 defenders I'd want to pick every week. Centre backs in particular are proving really good value for money.
Open ControlsI agree with you, but isn't there an issue of who else to get at that price. Chester will be most peoples first choice for budget, but then who is as nailed as Ward? You make a good point with Sunderland - Wes Brown down to 4.3m, but with so many people picking up Mannone would you want to double up?

I have no need to use my FT let alone my WC! *cue injuries and suspensions.
Howard
Sagna - Ridgewell - B. Turner
Silva - Oscar - Walcott - Barkley
Lukaku - Rooney - Suarez
------ Sterling - Ward - ChesterOpen ControlsAnyone considering Negredo once Aguero returns?
Open ControlsLooks like the Silva v Yaya debate is here to stay. Are people seriously considering ignoring one of the top scoring mids in the game, owned by almost half of the players, in their wildcards?
I had Silva for a few weeks when he came back and quickly realised that he wasn't a differential so long as I didn't have Yaya. Even with superior stats, he would only match him on a good day.
So far as I can tell, the arguments include:
- Silva having more shots. All this proves is that he is less clinical. A lot of them are outside of the area, where Silva actually has one of the league's worst records in recent years (I'm talking up there with Tiote).
- Yaya having been 'lucky.' The go-to excuse for people still too stubborn to get him in. Set-piece dominance, a treasured part of many other proven fantasy players, is somehow dismissed on this basis. The penalties that have come when Aguero is off the field may seem like luck...but this just means that Yaya is second choice pen taker for a team whose first choice frequently does not complete 90 minutes. Yaya almost always gets 90 when he plays - another clear weapon in a team that has a habit of scoring a lot of late goals.
No doubt Silva is a great player and his fantasy performance has stepped up again this year, but going for him instead of Yaya, rather than alongside him, could easily just eliminate any advantage gained.Open ControlsIt depends on your rank as well as to who you get. if your outside the top 100K then Silva otherwise Yaya. Us on the outside need a differential in the City attack and Silva at approx 1 mill cheaper is just that.
Open ControlsI'd love both but I'm not dropping Walcott or Hazard anytime soon, and Silva is more affordable than Yaya.
Open ControlsI'd bet big Money that Yaya's PPG is gonna take a massive fall in the 2nd half of the season. Dude has been on a massive heater in the first 1/2 of the season and history shows that it almost never lasts the whole season. Chris glover did a great piece on this face a season or 2 ago but can't find it now. He has been out performing his stats by a massive margine and theres ZERO chance this continues. ZERO chance.
Open Controlsfor the love of god lets hope so
Open ControlsThe big difference this season is that City are scoring for fun, and more often than not, Yaya gets in on the act (along with a significant number of bonus points). I'm seriously considering having Silva, Yaya and Aguero in my WC (already have the first two).
Open ControlsYaya is one of the few players who has outperformed his stats for two successive seasons. He is also now playing for a manager who believes in attacking play and allows him to go forward without waiting till the score is still 0-0 after an hour's play. He is a box-to-box player, not the defensive midfielder that some imagine. There's no African Cup of Nations this season. And he has added effective free kicks and penalties to his armoury. Ignore him at your peril!
Oh, and anyone who thinks he is merely 'the casuals' choice' is probably confusing him with RVP!Open Controls
John Cross, Mirror, via Twitter:
"Wenger says Bendtner out, scan results today. Giroud 'quite positive' on ankle but is sick so 90pc out. Ozil fitness test."
"Berbatov to Arsenal has become something of an urban myth in the past two weeks. Wenger again dismissive. "He's not a name we've considered'"
https://twitter.com/johncrossmirror/status/419038501305602048Open ControlsIs it still worth getting Mert over Kosc, despite the price difference?
People are hurrying to get Kosc in early this month before his price goes up but I'm tempted to do the same with Mert before his goes higher still.
A quick look at his history explains my reasoning. Still hoovering up the baps. I'm just worried I missed the boat on this one.Open ControlsI got Mert at 5.5, but I've never had Coleman. Both are too expensive to buy at current prices, if I had neither I'd buy neither.
Two ways to look at this:
1. If you're saving your WC and have money to burn he's a good option.
2. If you'll need to downgrade Mert on WC to afford other players, you might as well get Kosc now and ride the price rises from him early.Open ControlsIf you've not got Mert now then its not worth the extra million over Kosc. But it depends on your team value and what other players you have or aim to get. There was a similar debate over Jags or Distin a few weeks back before the toffees 'easy' games, most I think went with Jags for the extra bonus points but it never worked out and now both are injured.

Blatter speaks sense.Open ControlsI read that earlier and the guy for once is speaking sense. It would cut out a lot of the theatrical play acting we often see when a team is protecting a slim lead
Open ControlsIt's positive that he's thinking about it - but his proposed solution just put more pressure on the referees, whereas he should focus on making it easier for them. Retrospective bans, in my opinion, has always been the way to go. You need to get it into the players' heads that they wont get away with it - then, and only then, will it stop.

Potential GW21 WC team:

Koscielny / Coleman / Nastasic / Ward / Chester
Walcott / Silva / Hazard / Lallana / Mutch

Leaves me with a few shillings to do Rooney > Aguero
Any good?Open ControlsVery well done, that's as good as I can think of. I guess you could get Ozil instead of Rooney
