PlayON Picks – Gameweek 5 – Free Entry, £250 Pot

Our Friday lunchtime regular comes round once again, as we scour the PlayON player price list ahead of tomorrow’s 10.45am deadline. As usual, we offer a couple of picks per position, with an essential weekend target and a left-field alternative for your consideration.

This week PlayON have a FREE ENTRY, £250 Guaranteed Pot on offer, as well as their usual £1,000 Guaranteed Pot for a £5 entry. In addition, there is a £250 Guaranteed pot for each of their daily games on Saturday and Sunday – See the Guaranteed Games Here

Goalkeeper – Vito Mannone
If you fancy a flutter, the Black Cats stopper could be on course for a first shut-out of the campaign. Mannone – who sets you back just 7.2m – rolls up to face a Burnley side that has scored just once so far; with star striker Danny Ings sidelined due to a hamstring injury, the hosts may well struggle for goals again. A promising start to the season saw Tottenham’s defence serve up back-to-back clean sheets before conceding in the subsequent two. Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping for a return to that earlier resilience as Spurs welcome out-of-sorts West Brom to White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon – Hugo Lloris also comes in at 7.2m in this week’s PlayON Player Price List and faces a Baggies side that have failed to score in each of their last three matches.

Defender – Kieran Trippier
Burnley’s right-back looks one to watch this weekend. The newly-promoted side have recently upped their resilience and kept out both Manchester Utd and Crystal Palace in the last two matches – as evidenced by our selection of Mannone, we’re expecting their home clash with Sunderland to be a tight affair but if Sean Dyche’s side can find a way past their opponents, Trippier – who managed twelve assists in the Championship last season – is the man most likely at just 7.5m. A home encounter with Crystal Palace offers Leighton Baines (8.1m) a chance to continue the form that has served up a goal and two assists in his last couple of appearances across all competitions. As results improve for Roberto Martinez’ side, the left-back’s points potential at both ends of the pitch may well prove crucial against an Eagles side that shipped three in their previous road trip under Neil Warnock.

Midfielder – Stewart Downing
West Ham’s in-form midfielder offers an under the radar option as he prepares for the visit of former club Liverpool. In spite of a number of new arrivals, the Reds still look far from convincing at the back and with a goal and assist accrued already, Downing looks a decent shout at 8.6m. We’re heavily backing the Toffees this weekend for the home clash with Palace. Kevin Mirallas welcomes the Eagles in a rich vein of form and has now scored in each of his last three appearances – the Merseysiders warmed up for this one with a 4-1 Europa League thrashing of Schalke and, at 10.3m, the Belgian looks too good to ignore.

Forward – Radamel Falcao
The Colombian arrives at Old Trafford with a phenomenal record, scoring 104 goals in 139 appearances for his previous European clubs. Introduced to the proceedings as a sub last weekend, Falcao takes up just 10.1m of your budget and while he’s by no means certain to start, could still wreak havoc off the bench as the Red Devils roll up to Leicester. Rested for Tottenham’s Europa League exertions last night, Emmanuel Adebayor international will be fully refreshed for a plum home clash with struggling West Brom. Available for 10.6m, the Togo international has already delivered a goal and two assists in his first four fixtures and will fancy his chances against a Baggies backline that has conceded at least twice in three of the opening four Gameweeks.

Head over to www.playon.co and get picking ahead of the 10.45am deadline tomorrow morning.

Chester has lost his starting spot and Baines is practically a midfielder who is on penalties. In this instance the old adage of never taking a hit for a defender isn't so relevant. What is relevant however is the fact that Everton have some awkward fixtures coming up and in this weeks good fixture they are coming off a Europa match so the mightn't be as fresh.

    Mignolet
Vertonghen, Duff, Evans - should I include Naylor over one of these guys?

Should I spend my ITB money on Welbeck -> Rooney or Chambers -> Baines?

    @Demi if you're still on -

Would be interested to know why you think mata will be benched?

Assuming you do the team news section on FFS...

Hey, i normally do the section and think Mata will start. It's Mark/Paul who have done the team news this week though, so their predictions.

        This needs to be broadcast!

    Can you lot RMWCT?

    Forster, Hamer
    Ivanovic, Duff, Konchesky, Chambers, Naylor
Sterling, Di Maria, Chadli, Siggurdson, Fabregas
    Costa, Naismith, Ade

Have 2.5 to upgrade it, obviously don't want to keep it in the bank. Ade to Falcao is the easy option but I want to keep Ade, any suggestions?

Nothing wrong with money in the bank in my view - who knows which player you might want next week, that spare cash could be very useful. Looks like you'll be struggling with a bench dilemma every week but if you're ok with that then I don't see an obvious problem personally.

I'd downgrade one of your mid/forwards. Otherwise you'll have selection issues and benching points every week. Looks solid even with 2.5m in bank though!

Cheers both, maybe upgrade in defence then.

I'm in this position after wildcard. Get a mid at 4.4m or 4.5m (bench fodder) who plays and maximise your big hitters with the extra cash. Defence is good IMO - clean sheets are a lottery sometimes!

I quite like your team. My own personal opinion is that many of us (me included) backed the wrong Chelsea player but the Ivanovic boat has now sailed. I'd downgrade in week 8 to Baines and upgrade either Ade or Naismith. Falcao perhaps when he gets going. Or Kun but you'd be short I guess.(haven't done the maths)

Pick two to place this week

    Bertrand (swa)
    Duff (SUN)
    Naylor (SOU)
    PVA (bur)

In a pickle since Bertrand and PVA have the attacking threat but they are away

      Naylor and Duff

I'm feeling much more veteran-y this year and am off to a much better start than in previous years.

Avoiding risks, playing the fixtures, keeping tabs on the stats and limiting hits.

Granted, caulker seems a bad choice and 5 mil was too much for a defender and kelly was a bad replacement for Naughton but i feel as though this could be a good year for me if i stick with my current strategy

Anything you guys are doing differently this year and is it working so far?

I don't think it was too much. He he could scored 2-3 times already with balls off the line and missed point blank sitters
