I can't understand people complaining about other teams being similar. There is a simple solution. Do something different and stop complaining.

The problem is that the highly owned players are performing
Why is that a problem? The solution is not to transfer out the best players. The solution is to go for good differentials in 1-3 spots.
Differentials in 1 or 2 spots won't move mountains. Really need players like Chadli, Siggy, Rooney etc to start performing on a regular basis.
But it will move mountains.. just not in one gw or two.
Theres a lot of cheap(ish) players not highly owned thats performing too, right?But the problem is that in the long term those 'differential' players won't be able to outperform the highly owned players and if one of them does, he will become a highly owned player himself.
You need some luck to get the right player from all the options a week or two before everyone else gets him. But getting in differentials just for the sake of it will make you go down in ranksAgreed

Stop complaining. Pick a 3 or 4 'everyone own players' and then pick 7 or 8 differentials. Simple!Ivan and Terry will score the same number of points most weeks. And the rest you mentioned aren't consistent enough to outperform highly owned players like Silva, Hazard, Clyne etc.
And as I said in my post above, we really need players like Rooney, Siggy, Bony etc to start performing better to make them good options. Out of all of them, Sturridge is the only one I'm looking at right now as a good differential and even he will be highly owned in a couple of weeks if he gets a few more goals.
The point is that you can get 7 or 8 differentials if you want to have a bit more fun but long term it will show on your rank as you continue to fall down. Nobody is buying players like Nasri and Smalling for a reason and that reason is they are not going to get you more points than players like Silva, Hazard and a saints defender...
And thats why you need to keep Silva and Hazard. Those are not the ones to transfer out and replace with differentials.
and btw, Smalling have scored 32 points in the last 4 (only played 3 of them), while Clyne have scored 17. So yes, its very very possible to climb ranks with 1-3 differentials. Its just harder this time of the season, esp since we just had (are having) a dgw which makes the teams look even more alike.There is a template midfield of Hazard, Silva, Eriksen, Ars/Pool mid. Will you replace any of those four with a player like Moses?
Smalling has that many points as he got a brace in a game he didn't even start. So not many would have benefited from that haul. Yes, you can go a bit different with your defence but the front 7 or 8 players are very similar for players at high ranks and that is making too much movement impossible. And none of those highly ranked managers will want to take huge risks imo.
Picking the right captain when everyone else goes wrong is the biggest differential right now

I wouldn't be hell bent on Costa... and to pick amongst Sanchez and Ozil is a tough one. Pool have some tough fixtures in the next 3 - to be honest, I think you should hold or perhaps Austin -> Giroud.
Autin -> Giroud for free is not too bad - even if I did the opposite move for the DGW 🙂 Looking at Chelsea fixtures, Costa's bound to bag a few though - but thwen there's his 8 yellows. Diffcult one, really. Also fear Sanchez will come back to troll me big time, after I shipped him for Eriksen

I think defence is a very underrated key to how teams perform in FPL in second half of the season, given how front 7's are bound to get similar.
For example, looking at my own team, I decided to be a lazy bugger, did not partake in all of those rotations and stuff, and look how I've fallen since December.
Just for an example, the back 5 I chose for the January WC was Wollscheid-Bertrand-Wisdom-PVA-Naughton. Brutal.
A lesson I'll carry to next season. That's how important TV is. For me, trying to get the best front seven has left me with a skeleton, and given that horrible TV of 104.0, I wonder where I could have done better.I have just wildcarded last gw because of my defense. Its important. Just by changing my defenders alone i earned 10 more pts than i would have if i did not wc

There was nothing wrong with that defense.
That's what I thought back then.
But then... Wisdom and PVA went out of favour, Bertrand got a straight red and Wollscheid got injured costing me a CS to finally complete the cycle.Bad luck man, they were not bad picks at the time
The abundance of budget attacking players this year also makes it easier to bulk up the defense a bit. The likes of Siggy, Chadli, and Austin at the beginning of the season, and Kane, Ings, and Downing later on really helps with the general balance of the team.
Good jaab there are 3 WBA defs to do the biz.
Having a high team value can also do the opposite and make you ignore cheaper options, who, over a short period of time, can get more points than expensive defenders. My team value made me choose the likes of Zabaleta earlier in the season, who got me very little points, while those with a lower team value benefitted from players such as Hutton who were getting clean sheets very frequently.
tbf that back 5 was not a bad call at all, just got a bit unlucky tbh.

You don't need money to have a good defence. My defence has been fine with Clyne, Bellerin, Zouma most weeks

I think if I could go for two Arsenal attacking options right now, that would be Sanchez and Özil. Giroud is good too but there's only 3 forwards spots and he isn't explosive.
If sanchez scores a brace n giroud did nothing u are still not getting any points. U already can see that caz is not getting much pts when ozil is getting them
Sanch still has high ownership, so it's not 'safe'. However, do you want to be 'safe' or do you want to take some calculated risks?

Toby is 4.7 and Soton aren't scoring goals, it was wise to cash in on Clyne. Bertrand is cheaper anyway if they start scoring.

Long-term Clyne is the better option. Now that there is cheaper Soton defs I prefer one of them over Clyne.
