Euro 2012 – McDonald’s Scout League Update

As Fantasy managers while away the hours until tomorrow night’s first semi-final of Euro 2012, we’re rolling out some updates on the progress of the Fantasy Football Scout leagues across the various Fantasy games so far. First up, we begin a look at the McDonald’s game, analysing those managers who are currently leading the way after the quarter finals:

Nenad Todorovic sits at the top of the Scout league after registering a score of 71 in the quarter-finals. Jordi Alba, Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil were his stand out individuals, while he chose to stick with Cristiano Ronaldo as captain after the Portugal man notched against Czech Republic on day one. Nenad now sits second overall in the McDonald’s rankings, just a single point off the summit with a total of 272 points.

Isaac Lundall is next up, just a couple of points behind. His decision to double up on England and Spain defenders paid off, with captain Ashley Cole racking up 14 points in the previous round. The top two have quite a gap over the chasing pack, with Lee Harding sitting in third place on 258 points, 14 off the top. Picking a couple of Portugal’s backline against the Czechs paid off, while Joleon Lescott, Jordi Alba and captain Sami Khedira helped produce a score 69 points in the quarters – Lee is the third Fantasy manager we currently have in the overall top 10, situated in tenth place.

Surapong Lertthiratoj currently resides in fourth place in the Scout league after picking up a 62 point haul last time out. While his decision to back a couple of Italy defenders paid off, his faith in Germany’s backline backfired after Greece scored twice against Joachim Low’s outfit; Mesut Ozil vindicated Surapong’s decision to hand the playmaker the armband by picking up a 16 point captain return.

Winding up our review of the top five, we have Paul Robinson – a new entrant to the Scout league. Paul was the top scoring player of our featured Fantasy managers with a 78 point haul, thanks to his decision to hand Xabi Alonso the armband; the Spain midfielder duly obliged with a 28 point return, while the likes of Jordi Alba, Joao Pereira and Joleon Lescott boosted his tally at the back.

For the contributors, Paul (I’m talking about myself in the third person here, shocking habit) is the top scoring manager so far – sitting just outside the top 50 in the Scout league on 236 points and 604 overall. Doubling up on Spain’s defence and leaving the armband on Ronaldo was enough for 60 points. Mark is next up, sitting in 187 in the Scout league. Taking a leaf out of Spain’s book, his striker-less 5-5-0 formation harvested 64 points, with captain Joleon Lescott and Joe Hart returning 22 points between them in the goalless draw with Italy. Jonty stands in 649th place in the Scout league after a 54 point haul in the quarters. His decision to captain Italy’s Andrea Barzagli against England paid off with a 14 point return, while Jordi Alba also boosted his tally with 10 points at the back.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    REPOST

If Greece can put 2 past Germany, it is certainly possible for Italy to sneak a goal. Spain have been strong defensively, but there is every chance that Ronaldo will also sneak a goal. My defence strategy is different. I don’t expect any CS, so am going with Pepe, hoping for an onslaught and RB. That’s the key to the SF matches…..imho

Ini is just not worth it, I'd look at shifting him. If Fab starts go him and get another striker. Otherwise just get Olivera and swap Iniesta for Schweiny and get a defender in.

Schweiny played far too deep for comfort. Where do you see him picking up points - RB. I can use his 9m elsewhere. Avoid him at all costs....imho

WEIRD!!! Harry Procter (heco87) is clearly a regular poster in FFS....Why didn't he join this league? Anyways I think FFS should still claim he belongs to their leauge. He certainly missed out on a good solid mention. For the first time, I actually know someone who is 1st in the world.

    CR7, El Nino, Oliviera

    €0.3 in the bank.

I think Hoffenheim are just playing games, and trying to squeeze as much money out of the deal as possible.

Tottenham may have offered more cash, but if the player has already chosen Liverpool, it's tough.

    Here's something to think about.

People getting Spanish defense are reluctant to pick up Ronaldo, because they think it's contradictory. It is, they can't all score well.

But there's another factor at work. You're picking players to progress as well. You can pick Spanish defenders and NOT think they're going to keep a clean sheet. I for one have 2 Spanish defenders in my draft and Ronaldo because I feel that Ronaldo will score, but my Spanish defenders will progress.

Besides, these semis are so difficult to call. There are so many factors in play. Picking a team to keep a clean sheet is futile, and probably as futile as trying to work out who's going to be involved in goals. Might as well pick players based on whether they're going to play in the next round, and select a few potential offensive players you think will be involved in goals.

Having XI is more important, because there's only one thing for certain, a player who plays will score more than one who doesn't.

All good points. If you have your wildcard though makes life a lot easier lol

I fancy Ronny to score but Spain to win, maybe 2-1. And Germany to beat Italy in another tight game, maybe 2-1 again.

      Don't entirely agree.

I see the semi finals as the last chance to make a significant difference. If, as most people expect, the final ends up being Spain-Germany, most teams will be incredibly similar. Accurately predicting which team(s) will keep a clean sheet in the semi-finals, and stocking up on their defenders, could be the best chance for people to win their mini-leagues.

That said, I'm still undecided on whether I'm going to go big on the German or Spanish defence.

Doesn't mean you can't make predictions.

        I'm running with a 5-4-2 strategy.

5 from one semi-final (Germany or Spain)
        4 + 2 in the other (Spain + Portugal/Germany + Italy)

Guaranteed XI in the final as long as your 5 come through.

What's anyone got planned with life for the 3-4 weeks between the end of the euros, and the launch of the fpl? I'm be on my yearly trip to the UK for some of it, so I'll be filling in the time visiting family and stuff. Might even try and catch a game of Olympic footy at st james'

Is it just me, or do non of the big teams have any long runs of nice fixtures? Chelsea are the only team that I can see with 5 blues in a row on the ticker, and even that is spoilt by the blank in GW3. Going to make it much harder this year I reckon

if you go BIG at 1 defence

let's say 4 spain players and each of them got 2 pts+rb=3pts

what's the chanse that 1 of your defender will score??if he did score and his team concede goal that would be 4.5 pts per player in defence

if they all keep CS and one of them score that would be 8.5 pts per player

    is this make any sense?

Hi all, somewhat long post but I've a slightly different RMT for you here and I'd really appreciate all feedback you can offer.

I'm in a 2-way H2H league which started GW2 and am currently leading 2-1. We have agreements not to buy players already existing in the others team and before we actualise transfers we simultaneously send our planned moves and try to avoid as many duplications as possible through negotiation. So far we've managed it well but strategy going into the SF and Final is going to be crucial with, potentially, so few high scorers on offer.

My current draft leaves me with:

    Neuer* / Patricio
    Alba* / Arebeloa / Abate* / Boateng* / 4.0
    Pirlo* / Ozil* / Iniesta* / Khedira / 4.0
    CR7* / Torres* / Oliveira

    * denotes player already in my team and thus unavailable to my opponent
** players already in his team and unavailable to me = Gomez, Hummels, Badstuber, Schweini, Marchisio, Casillas and Silva.

I'd have 0.4 left in the bank and 4FT remaining but, as I said above, I haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet given the nature of our agreement.

Before the inevitable response on my GK spend, let me explain the rationale behind it. 1: I can't triple on German def because Lahm is too expensive and two may be enough anyway and 2: if Portugal win (not improbable) then I can leave my opponent without a keeper for the final.

    Looking forward to your opinions!
