HomeCrowd Comments – A Pre-Season Survey

HomeCrowd has been with us for just over a month now and, as we approach a busy pre-season period, we thought it was a good time to get your views on how you’ve found it so far.

We’ve created a short ten question, multiple choice survey that will help us gauge your feelings on the new comments system and understand how it’s being used so we can work to improve things in the coming months.

With the Fantasy games still yet to hit full swing, it would be great if you could spare us five minutes and pop on over to this link to complete the survey. Many thanks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If the transfer window were to close today and teams were to remain as they were on this day, I'd presume they'd be battling for 2nd and 3rd, and probably finish 3rd behind Manchester City (1) and Chelsea (2).
And then perhaps challenge again for the title, the season after.

But I do think MUFC could sign a CM and perhaps even an attack-minded player should Rooney leave; can see MCFC, inspite of splurging a bit already, going after a central-defender and a forward (perhaps Jovetic/Negredo); and Chelsea going after another forward and a defensive-minded player.
Plenty yet to come this window, hence a bit premature for predictions, I suppose.

Again the argument that United is less attractive without SAF is not a strong one either. We've lost out on numerous targets when fergie was around as well. Been following the Thiago story very closely and half lost faith in the hunters of the world. He din know when pep came with a strong push despite him setting up the meeting with Mazinho.

Agree on losing out on targets. That happened frequently under SAF too.

What I understand of the transfer is that United could have possibly wrapped up the deal far before Bayern swooped in if it hadn't been for doubts within OT. Hunter hinted at this, and said Bayern's push was very strong once he confirmed it with his sources. I don't think you can expect the lad to be told of every detail as soon as it happens. But at the end of the day, they lost out because of Pep's familiarity with Thiago and Bayern's rising stock reputation-wise.

On a side note, I don't think Thiago was the quick fire solution to all of United's central midfield problems as most fans seem to think.

          Same.

Have to say, I see no place for him at Bayern. Their chiefs have spoken in the past of the club not being one of release clauses, so I think the move is based on what Guardiola has guaranteed Thiago personally. United were hesitant to put in the clause too, possibly because of fears he might not adapt to the premier league quickly enough, which basically means it was Pep's word vs. United's. And it's hard to compete with familiarity.

Lost or the club refused to pay over the odds for players? Man Utd don't run their finances as the likes of Chelsea and Man City, I assure you for example in the case of Nasri, there is no way he would have offer the same deal as City and he would have been correct. Pogba is another perfect example, he was demanding a contract outside of the clubs valuation policy.

The point I am making is they lost out on this one with out ever competing. It is a differant matter to lose out on a target in a bidding war with other clubs.

Interesting debate though, a more moest example of me is the differance having Redknapp at QPR in terms of attracting players. Just recently Saviola stated he would prefer to come to Engand and work under Redknapp that play in the PL. There are countless examples of players who want to play under Harry,.

I firmly belief it is, the very top managers in football having pulling power, it doesn't always mean they get who they want, there are many other factors.May have lost out on numerous targets, however I assure you he got the players he really wanted more often than not.

Lots of factors I agree Crouchy. moura wanted more money, sjneiders wages were ridiculous and hazard had the 6m agent fee which we refused to pay. Fergie is a factor but not a great one. Also in thiagos case it was the familiarity with pep is my best bet.

Fergie may have lost out on certain targets (mainly due to money) but if you genuinely believe 'player x' sees working for Moyes just as attractive as working for Fergie you're kidding yourself, imo. Moyes may well be a good manager, but he isn't the (probably) greatest football manager of all time.

I know its a factor but from recent examples I've seen of players moving around and wasn't the case with Thiago is my point. It is a pull nonetheless of course.

What I would add though is I don't think it's "that" bad a thing for Moues, he had turned down Barca's moves to keep him and believed to have agreed to join Utd before Bayern came in, so it's not like he's said, "who the hell is Moyes, I'm not going there".

Benzema, Hazard, Nasri, Lucas Moura, Pastore, Sanchez all turned Utd down in recent years under Ferguson (although a lot to do with money in fairness you would think with most).

Plus Pogba and Fryers from the youth team refused to sign contracts under Ferguson aswell.

Players do turn down Utd, being turned down for his old manager and for the current European Champions isn't a big mark against Moyes.

True in the sense, a contract was offered, which he refused to sign.

He wanted a different contract with more money and more playing time as Lateriser says. He would have broken into the team last season aswell is the worst thing with him.

Same applies to Hazard, Moura etc etc, terms were discussed but they chose more money elsewhere.

I genuinely think both of them can play together. Just watch how he play in the national team together with Suarez and Forlan. Lavezzi and Cavani used to play together, so if Ibra is the striker to finish off their moves, it would be a deadly attacking trio.

Cavani work best as the main man. Forland and Suarez and interchange and play just off, Ibra is the main man and that the role Cavani plays. I hope youre right because it could be great to watch

I agree, but i still think Cavani's style of play means that he's still capable of being lethal even if he's not the target man. His link up play is terrific, and he can also attack from anywhere in the final third. I hope i'm right too as i'd like them to seriously challenge UCL again next season 😉

            2 Cheap strikers. Hmm..

Here are some of them I would consider at all. (Cheapies and mids)

Cornelius, Bony, RvW, Sturridge and Carroll

Out of this lot, I would only be very interested in the latter 3. I don't like Cardiff's and Swansea's opening fixtures at all. Thinking that both Sturridge and Carroll would be around 8, one of these and a mid of about 6, probably one of Ramirez/Lallana is what I was thinking to go with. Its already doing my head in as I can see Man City starting well too, and a lot of people here seem to be forgetting about them.

By cheap I mean like 5.5-7.0 region. Would be a rotation with my cheap mid too so don't need a good run of fixtures per se. My front runners atm are Rodriguez, Altidore, RVW and Cornelius. I don't fancy Carroll at all. You really Sturridge will be 8? Sounds way too cheap imo

I meant 8-9. He's going to be 9 probably. I am not really sure about Altidore though his stats from last season aren't too bad at all. Too many mid-priced options this season in attack this season, just like there were so many in the midfield last season. Are you sure JRod's going to get off to a good start?

Not sure but I don't see why not with a good team around him playing attacking football, good fixtures and very strong form end of last season. Less of an unknown quantity than the new imports but there's no certainties at that price.

Sturridge started at 8.0 as a sub at Chelsea. Now he's the main striker at Liverpool and with Suarez suspended, i think there's a big chance he'll cost much more than that. 🙁

Rooney away to the Swans? Not for me. Pool,Chelsea, Spurs or Arsenal attack. All depends.
I'll decide on the 16th, when we've had a chance to see everyone play a game or two.

My favourite punt would be Dzeko, if it looks like he'll start.

Let him go anywhere, except come to Arsenal. I don't want him to earn twice as Walcott, Podolski and Cazorla at out club, neither he deserves it, nor it would make the others happy.

For Man U I want him to become a back up, playing Kags in the hole is much more effective imo than Rooney. Pus I prefer RVP to Rooney as RVP is in better shape which explains his form. Rooney doesn't look good physically really and this explains his bad form, although he should spend more time playing football and in the gym than complaining about the lack of money on his contract.

For England though he is vital really as is in theory one of the most talented footballers we have got in England.

    Clyne - Lovren - Yoshida - Shaw
    Schneiderlin - - - Wanyama
    Lallana - - Ramirez - - Rodriguez
    - - - - - - - Lambert - - - - - -

: If this front 6 remains in form all season, and Lambert continues to score a whole lot of goals, I don't think there's any reason why Southampton won't challenge for the top-10.

With good fixtures at the start of the season, they are the team to look out for, according to me.

Clyne or Shaw - I'll shirley have one of them. Maybe Boruc as well, and double on their defence (might be worth it, after all they are the rotation darlings this season) .

Rodriguez as a cheap striker, maybe. But then POO options don't really excite me. Ramirez as a 5th midfielder is an option, but it is risky given he played Confed Cup, and he doesn't have a good injury record.

Clyne or Shaw is going to be an interesting pick. Will be interested to see why people pick one over the other.

I'm liking JRod at 6 or less. Might come in slightly higher than that.

Lallana at 5.5 would be nice

Yes, Lallana could be interesting, came after a good record in the Championship, never really got going in the PL. Well, JRod at 6.0 ... I think we might get a central striker at the same price from the promoted clubs, Gayle & Co. will be worth a shout as well.

And talking about defensive dilemmas, all of Debuchy/Santon, R.Martin/Turner and Clyne/Shaw arguments will be interesting, especially if they are priced the same.

Bale vs Palace for me. He could tear them apart.

Hazard (c) is going to be famous.

            Big risk, big reward 😉

It's ridiculous how often City play on a Monday night

I wouldn't say that its inevitable, especially when you consider that last season Chelsea were in the Club World Cup so they couldn't have the postponed game during that time. Now they aren't in it, so there isn't the urgency in scheduling the fixture and it could easily be a few weeks later

Agree, I don't like the idea of a DGW in GW1. No real fitness built up = more rotation likely.
