Moving Target

Moving Target – Danny Graham

Hull City boss Steve Bruce added to his forward options late last week by acquiring Danny Graham on a season-long loan deal from Sunderland. The former Swansea man is the club’s seventh signing of the summer and follows the likes of Allan McGregor, Curtis Davies, Maynor Figueroa and Ahmed Elmohamady to the KC Stadium as The Tigers prepare for life back in the Premier League.

Having fallen out of favour under Paolo Di Canio after just six months at Sunderland, Graham’s security of game time looks set for a significant increase in the season ahead. Judging by his new manager’s comments, it’s clear that Bruce – who has an option to make the deal permanent at the end of 2013/14 – is a huge fan of the 27-year-old:

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Doosra, what are your thoughts on Nolan this year? You see him gettin off to a good start again, or just too pricey?

What happens before the Hull City game has an impact. Also, if we have to play against Aston Villa two or three days later – we still don't know when that will be [the game is still to be rescheduled, having been set for the weekend Chelsea play in the European Super Cup in Prague on 30 August] – I will have to think about two or three matches at the same time. If the game is postponed until two months later and I have only one match in a week, I will think differently. It depends on the situation."

Well, this would heal some of the pre-season headaches.

Then again, maybe there are no headaches with regards to these 3. Mata seems surprisingly unpopular, Azpi not nailed and Torres is just Torres.

Has anyone seen this? Mourinho says Mata, Torres, Azpilcueta likely to miss opening day v Hull if they are picked in Spain friendly v Ecuador

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jul/22/chelsea-juan-mata-fernando-torres

    Here is a breakdown

"My lineup will depend a lot on which players go away with their national teams two days before the opening of the Premier League," Mourinho said. "If one has to go to Ecuador and comes back and arrives in London on Saturday without having slept after a 15-hour flight, coming in to train on Saturday morning, I don't think he is going to play on Sunday. If a player plays for England on Wednesday against Scotland, let's say plays for 45 minutes at Wembley and then an hour after the game he is at home in Cobham sleeping, he is in a better condition to play. The team will be decided game after game and week after week.

Just had another check on Negredo stats last year.

31 goals in 42 games (73%) return in all games.
    25/36 league only (69%).
Why do so many expect him to be a risk?
Who else at city has a goal return like this?

"We are thinking of letting Nathaniel go on loan for a last season," Mourinho said. "That is our intention and he knows. We have discussed that with him. He is a very, very good player. I like him very much and am very impressed. For sure, he is a Chelsea player. We will see whether or not it is a Premier League club but he would have to play every weekend for the last year of his loan period. He could be in our squad already but we think one more season will help and then he will come back for 2014-15. It will be his last one out on loan. He is very, very good.

I don't see the value in RVP with a new manager and no new signings as yet. He is brilliant, but not that brilliant.

Decent team but yeah question marks are over Robles/Mannone starting at the minute but we'll obviously know more (hopefully) as the season nears.

Don't like Wanyama personally (I know he's a 5th but other options are Koren, Thomas and have more potential IMO)

Jarvis I like just because he's a viable punt and could do well, other 6.0 options are G.Ramirez, Morrison, Sissoko who may perform better though, up to you!

Regarding Negredo after looking at the previous discussion. I think if starting he would be the best option for City.
But I just think he is not good enough to be a starter in every game and is not getting payd enough. He might be the preferred guy against bigger teams over Dzeko, but aguero could still lead the line against some teams and there is also Dzeko and Jovetic who could also play as a forward.

Rotation will probably make him a non-option like it did for Balo. IMO

+1 He usually plays with 1 striker, and 1 behind. Similar to United in terms of forward spots available. Aguero and Jovetic ofcourse can play anywhere in the front 4. Negredo and Dzeko only 1 spot. I personally cant see Jovetic as a false 9 as he failed in that role for Fiorentina last season(only in injury emergencies.

I've seen people argue that Lambert's the lone striker up top, plays further forward, blah blah, so is worth the extra 1.5 over J-Rod

If you saw SOT play towards the end of last season, like i did, you would realize thats not the case.
Although in theory J-Rod's a winger, the tactic their new manager applied often saw Jay spend a large amount of time furthest forward on the pitch.

    ------Lambert-------
    RW-------------J-Rod

Lambert would often drop deep, which allowed Rodriguez to make runs towards the inside, creating this sort of a formation^^. The other winger, would normally stay wide.

One thing which Lambo does have over him, however, is set pieces. This would not even be an argument otherwise

personally i started with tevez last season because i considered the rotation chatter to be unfounded. in this case, i'd be pretty stunned if negredo started more than like 2/3 of games. also tevez > negredo as a proven points scorer. tevez at 9.0 was absurd value.

Also it's a bit unfair calling Tevez a proven points scorer to make Negredo look bad. Negredo's "La Liga FLL" points (Fantasy La Liga) points would probably match Tevez's FPL points imo. Also, a strong scoring record in Spain cannot be taken lightly as Michu has shown. Talent is talent, be it Spain or England. Both have strong leagues.

maybe but the fact remains that tevez had an incredible end to the previous season, had pretty much the best points per game of any player in the entire league, and was proven in the prem for many years, whereas negredo could easily have acclimatisation issues and whatnot. i dunno guys, i'm not saying it won't work, i'm saying it's about 50% likely to work, which is enough to put me off.

In his last 2 seasons with City he scored 15 goals in 41 games. I'm pretty sure Negredo can beat that strike rate comfortably and match Tevez's value, even if he is half a mil dearer.

It's all about game time imo. 170/180 mins in those first 3 games for Negredo and I'm sure he'll fire me into a fantastic starting rank and already on top of an early bandwagon.

I'm not being too optimistic about that game time am I? :S

Get rid of Sturridge. Even if he is fit in a few weeks he'd have had zero pre season

Coutinho and Sturridge will do great over the season, but I'm inclined to wait until it looks like they're up and running.

Yes yes yes. I keep going over it again and again. I must have done five or six RMT's so far this preseason, and he has been in all of them. He finished last season strong, and has had a great summer with Spain. I hate the muppet but I just have these feeling he's 25-30 goal strong this season.

Sit back and let me pick him unless someone can convince me otherwise!

Why would he leave? Did he not sign a new contract just a few months back?

depends if southampton sign a new striker, obviously they won't get damiao but if they get osvaldo or another striker lambert will probably be off

    Foster/Boruc
    Mert, Toure, Turner (Chester, Parr)
    Bale, Hazard, Mirallas, Snodgrass (Thomas)
    RVP, Berba, JRod

Opinions on this RVP Bale team?
    Considering replacing Hazard with Walcott.
    GKs rotate well.

asa liverpool fan not sure on toure's game time. but if we do not sign another CB then the defence is pretty solid. but perhaps look at a west ham defender like Rat or Collins if toure is as expected to see limited game time. Other wise its pretty decent. i had a draft with both RVP and Bale but i have since decided that just one of them (Bale atm) gives me a stronger all-round team
