Moving Target

Moving Target – Danny Graham

Hull City boss Steve Bruce added to his forward options late last week by acquiring Danny Graham on a season-long loan deal from Sunderland. The former Swansea man is the club’s seventh signing of the summer and follows the likes of Allan McGregor, Curtis Davies, Maynor Figueroa and Ahmed Elmohamady to the KC Stadium as The Tigers prepare for life back in the Premier League.

Having fallen out of favour under Paolo Di Canio after just six months at Sunderland, Graham’s security of game time looks set for a significant increase in the season ahead. Judging by his new manager’s comments, it’s clear that Bruce – who has an option to make the deal permanent at the end of 2013/14 – is a huge fan of the 27-year-old:

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Had a bit more of a tinker ... thoughts?

    Vorm/Mannone
Collins - Clyne - Coleman (Parr, Chester)
Bale - Hazard - Walcott - Snodgrass (Koren)
    Aguero - JRod - Studge

Pretty happy with it to be honest, swapped Mirallas for Snoddy and Anelka for JRod. God knows ill prob change it another 48 times

vorm has really, really awful fixtures and we're not 100% sure mannone is first choice. it's tricky to get two budget keepers that make sense though, best to ask one of the rotation experts (i.e. not me). personally i'm going very risky and just having one playing keeper, but i know a lot of people don't fancy that.

Yeh noticed his opening fixtures werent the best from season kick off but at home they're usually quite strong. Plus he makes a tonne of saves - but see where you are coming from. I do think Mannone will get the gig as 1st choice though

okay so some 50/50 food for thoughts
Fellaini good start fixtures 8.5 new coach likely to be defensive then attacking then mirallas 7.5 up front 3 = winner mirallas
    or am i wrong?

man city and silva 9.0 looks like a very good option but thoughts can he repeat seasons past form on that price? or navas better option? or other?

mac city players that will start any ideas?

roughie i have is giroud i think he will flourish and have a 15-20+ goal season good call bad call?

    norwich defence any ideas??

how important is RVP?? is paulinho an option instead of bale or no chance??

    anelka viable option or not??

    many questions
    anyone got the answers??

      Mirallas > Fellaini
      Silva is a good option.
Giroud is a good risk imo.
Turner or Olsson as an OOP
He's too expensive... Bale is a must.
      Anelka is a good choice.

Fellaini is priced at 8.5 and by dropping kaboul for collins or other 4.5m rated defenders would free up the fund to upgrade Fellaini to Countinho for you.

most people are going for jrod ahead of lambert 'cause of the gulf in price. lambert might end up being an awesome differential, or a waste of extra money, we'll see. mirallas over fellaini anyday. kaboul is slightly worrying to me 'cause id expect caulker and dawson to get some game time.

the thing with van persie is:
              1) best striker in the league
              2) at the best team in the league based on last season (granted, i doubt we'll win it again this season)
              3) on set pieces and really, really good at them too
              4) has basically zero competition and will barely get rotated at all

he's just such a monster. he's the kind of rare player who can have a crappy game, even an anonymous game, and still score double figures. i can't bear to leave him out and believe me i tried 😛

Ive posted this before, but still interested in views of the experts. Is anyone else going with a 352 formation over 343 out of the gate? Snoddy/mirallas and 3 studs with sturridge/medium striker (berbs/lambs,etc) feels safer then reaching with j rod, Aspas or RvW? Am I crazy particular with the new bonus system that doesn't simply hand bonus points for goals?

Why do you think every RMT is 343? They all have thomas and j rod, neither of which I would feel great about playing? Rather put in a gayle and get a solid front 7 and go a bit heavier on defence out of the gate as some mispriced players at 5 and 5.5.

I don't like having 2 of those weak guys, I'm leaning towards:

            Bale/Wally/silva/snoddy/mirallas
            Sturridge/lambert/gayle

Leaves me plenty of money foe defence/goalies

No idea people are easily influenced! Most of the Rmt's are rather similar and will be a bit different come week 1

I'd be the same as that, I remember I wilcarded one January to get Shane Ferguson in and even spent points last year getting Pog and Noel Hunt in... Sacrificing one or 2 places for better players is perfectly fine in my book.. a well balanced team just leads to bench points which just lead to selection annoyances and ragefaces!

damn that's a nice rank. good to know a 3-5-2 can get you that high. i'm going for 3-4-3 just 'cause it fits around my essentials, but i don't have an fundamental problem with a 3-5-2. i just don't like having 4 (or more) defenders.

Nothing wrong with 3-5-2. Imo there are many strong midfielders whereas not so many must have strikers. I play 3-5-2 most of the time and have done quite well by it.

Glad to see I'm not the only one, seems like everyone on this board goes 343. That's fine once the benteke emerges but out of the gate mirallas and snoddy seem waaaaaaay safer than the 6.5 -7.0 strikers

personally i have rvp bale aguero walcott and baines, so i really don't have room for two mid-priced midfielders. i agree that the mid-priced strikers are inferior though, for sure.

I think I prefer 3-5-2 once I've built up a bit of team value. I'll probably start with 3-4-3 because the cheapest playing mids are about a million cheaper than the cheapest playing strikers. I don't know whether that's a popular strategy; it might explain the prevalence of 3-4-3 in RMTs.

Either formation can work well at any point in the season though.

in one of the hot topics, someone explains with statistical evidence (i didn't verify its accuracy for the record) that nolan did significantly worse without carroll last season. i personally think he'll still do okay, and if it wasn't for snod he'd still be in my team, but it seems carroll's absence does tend to impact him a little. and this makes sense considering how often he benefits from the big man's knockdowns.

It does seem that there is still a fair amount of debate... truthfully, I had not remembered that carroll was in west ham's lineup early in the season when nolan was scoring most of his goals.

Mate I am a HUGE fan of Nolan. But he really is nothing without Carroll. I checked stats but also remember another pivotal game where WH scored 3 goals, Nolan fed off Carroll superbly. When Carroll was injured Nolan became no threat on goal. He became about as scary as Charlie Adam.

davis is likely a second string keeper, so if you're gonna get a keeper who doesn't play get one with less ownership. his price is gonna fall like hell.

A over B definitely. and i think spreading around attacking cover is a better idea m'self, rather than focusing one team. of course, it's a different matter if that one team has incredibly good fixtures and the other teams have bad fixtures, but that isn't the case here.

Given the fixtures a Man c Striker looks essential , GW3 there are no other realistic captain choices , not a single one.
By the time the season begins we should have a better idea which one too choose , but one looks essential

The second spot looks to me like a toss up between

Giroud and Sturridge , Im struggling to think of anyone else for the second spot GW1

Are there any other names i should consider?

Yup messes up a lot of the team trying to squeeze him in

But if he does take off and scores some goals with an aguero blank people will panic and he will be 14,000,000,000 by week 3

there was a list posted not long ago about players who seem to perform regardless of fixtures. RVP was on the list 😉

i think you're right about those two being the best second strikers, unless you wanna get both rvp and aguero like m'self.

Im sure RVP will score a goal or two in the first few weeks , but it debatable if it will be enough to offset the weakness elsewhere in your squad. Until GW4 he not captain material , so personally m happy to wait on RVP but understand why people want him from the off

Lets throw away the CPL players as w/ TOT, STO, SUN, MUN & SWA to star the year we probably won't see them anyway / easily replaceable bench fodder.

      So, leaves us with:

RvW - Kagawa (Not in on this as UTD have some tricky fixtures & would prefer to see how Roney plays out.)

Negredo - JRod (Like this combo w/ the run of fixtures each club has. Feel JRod is great value for 6mil)

RvW & Giroud (Would be a close 2nd to above & if MCI rotate their fwd line then it'd have to be 1st in my mind)

    Simple & straight forward...
Have Bale, Hazard & Silva locked in so:

    A) Walcott & Aspas
    vs.
    B) Arteta & Sturridge

Leaning "B" myself but would love to hear reasoning for either?
Perhaps another 7mil player for the first 4/5wks?

even with the new bonus system benefitting him i don't think arteta represents value for money, personally. aspas is a bit of a punt, but there's at least some potential for a decent total, whereas with arteta i'm not so sure... i like kone more than aspas i think, and snodgrass/nolan more than arteta, personally. but if everyone picked the same guys it'd be boring 😉

Leaning RvW on pens for NOR.
      (Snodgrass in the mix)

Aguero for MCI seems clear cut choice.

      Morisson for WBA.

Aguero was ahead of Tevez on pens anyway I believe - only Mario was ahead of Aguero when he was there, so I think Aguero is fairly likely to still have them.

Snoddy has a great chance of getting pens also now that Holt is gone. RVW another contender imo.

West Brom - I think this used to be Dorrans then Brunt. Odem and Morrison also in the hunt. With Anelka joining it's a bit of a guess, but I'd guess Dorrans/Brunt will still have them

I think he scored a couple of goals in the 3 part appearances he made. Perhaps sticking with one is the sensible play, although I fancy us to score a few at home to Villa.

    My Must haves this season:
    Mertesacker
    Walcott
    Silva
    Bale
    RVP
    Sturridge

Chelsea are probably going to share throughout torres, lukaku, mata, hazard etc, and that could become quite annoying. That's why at the start it's better to wait until Gw4 with them.

Personally, I'm leaning Jarvis over Nobel.

      -Played more min.
-Scored equal amount of pts to Nobel last yr.
-Has demonstrated the ability to net 130/140+ pts in a season
      -Nobel has never broken 100pts

If he starts cold then it's an easy horizontal move to your original choice.

1mil looks good. But when starting Sturridge was the best striker around at the end of last season and Giroud is still not someone I would rely on IMO.

Walcott and Sturridge both seem like big hitters to me, but both of the second options have struggled with consistency. But as stupendous pointed out sturr was injured so maybe check up on his status.

its conceivable that westwood, kaboul, azpil, pozuelo, kagawa and negredo all won't start gw1. no reason to have vlaar instead of baker.

Cheers, any doubtful starters will be gone by GW1. Is Baker nailed-on?

    Hey lads,

Checking back in for another season. I got as high as inside the top 20,000 last season but I tailed off after moving house and not having the internet for a long time.

That said, I may have to upgrade to a full membership this time around.

So, down to business. Here's my first draft, just wanted to get some thoughts of you fine folk.

    Mannone (Boruc)
Mert, Toure, Clyne (Whittaker, Ryan Bennett)
    Miralles, Kagawa, Paulinho, Hazard, Walcott
    RVW, RVP (Anelka)

First and foremost, I am a tad uneasy with leaving out Bale in place of Paulinho but I am hoping to make some quick money on him.

I think Kagawa could find a new and improved role under Moyes, particularly if Rooney leaves. Also, what are your thoughts on Zaha? I like the lad and he has exceptional movement and he carved up United when they met. Could take a while to see any reasonable return but he's on my watchlist.

Obviously, RVP is a machine but I could leave him out and put in another prospect striker in with the purview of making some quick money. A nightmarish scenario, I know but that would also allow me to get in someone like J-Rod over Anelka.

I don't like the idea of having neither of them (RVP & Bale) but IMO these early months are all about increasing your budget by a couple of million.

I hope to have roughly 102-104m to play with come January.

    Thoughts?

    Please, don't hold back...

I will happily rate your team in return if you so wish.

    Kudos!

your sub defenders are dubious to say the least, otherwise looks good! kagawa too much of a risk early on for my money, i'd maybe get snodgrass and upgrade one of your strikers. of course, i'd argue you should have bale, but that'd take more of a reshuffle.

So the Kagawa one is a good punt for sure, but its a punt, and the start of the season IMO is a time to get going through the gears.

He for me is one to keep any eye on. I mean lets say you start with someone similar price and safer. How about Ben Arfa, Cabeye or even the Siss at Newcastle. All almost Kagawa price so you could shift in a hurry, but let say you keep them for 5 gameweeks until Utd's fix clear.

      mci
      WHU
      FUL
      avl
      HUL

That looks pretty good to me then you run into (when chaning to Kag)

      WBA
      sun
      SOT
      STO

Seems pretty good trade off 🙂

    The RVP argument

I know it's been discussed a lot on here but there still seems to be a split between owning or not owning RVP, here's my opinion.

Van Persie has gained 36% ownership so far at 14m, this will probably increase slightly as more of the casuals join the game and put him in.

While there is no questioning his ability to score against anyone, at £14m you need at least a goal and probably more every game to justify his price, especially when you can get 2 top players in place of him- potentially giving more balance to your team.

Because of this lets just say RVP struggles in the first couple of games- Swa (a), Che (h), Liv (a) and a potential rest ahead of the 4th game because of champs league- not the easiest of starts. With high ownership and other bargain players potentially exploding in these weeks, he could be one of the first players transferred out to free up funds resulting in a potential value drop. A price of £13.5m when his fixtures make him essential (gw6) would be much better value in my opinion.

By the same argument, by not having him early on the risk of his price increasing is low because

    A) people who want him will already have him
    B) he's so expensive he'd have to be on fire

People may be scared off by his captaincy potential but with options such as Bale, and Hazard, Walcott Aguero with stronger starts you won't be that far behind, after all they will have a £5m mid while you've got Silva and Sturridge!

    Food for thought

The most Ive been convinced not to have him but he's RVP, he will be top scorer this season and is fixture proof

Agree with you there, my main argument is not having him now, more to wait til gw6 and potentially getting him in cheaper for better fixtures! Makes the game more interesting though with a divide of ownership

RMT #5 - My favourite so far - in terms of balance, captain options, spread of points, home/away rotation options.

    Mignolet - Given

    Azpilicueta - Zabaleta - Dawson - Parr - Chester

    Bale - Coutinho - Nolan - Silva - Thomas

    Sturridge - Lambert - Berbatov

    😀

Downgrade Zab to Nasty and squeeze in Walcott for Coutinho.

        😀 at your name.

Hm, I think I might just do that - although I feel Coutinho will outscore Theo over the course of the season, don't expect him to play centre forward with Arsenal wanting a new one.
