The Community Round Up

The Chelsea and Aston Villa double Gameweek 1 proved to be this week’s biggest news as the community was deafened with the sound of ripped-up draft teams. We take a look back at the subsequent discussions and the other hot topics to catch our eye in the past seven days, and keep up to date with the latest from the community leagues taking place this summer.

Hottest Topics

Chelsea looks to the main source of investment for community members during this early double Gameweek, with few keen on Aston Villa’s assets. Lateriser21 was on hand to come up with a solution for those looking to acquire a trio of Blues options, the game’s two most expensive players Gareth Bale and Robin Van Persie, and avoid an early wildcard. However, this task will become much easier should Bale’s rumoured move to Real Madrid become reality.

Among those urging caution before investing in Villa’s assets was Triggerlips. He warns that for every double Gameweek player we invest in, the likelihood of points hits grows as both Chelsea and Villa are set to miss Gameweek 3.

Thinking of picking up a West Brom player? Maybe you will reconsider after reading Dino’s critical assessment of their chances. It proves grim reading for Baggies fans and those considering Nicolas Anelka as a cut-price striker option.

Second season syndrome was the inspiration behind this detailed post from Demi, who has analysed those players who may be primed for a far better second season in the Premier League. A certain Aston Villa striker is amongst those he suggests could have an impressive 2013/14 – perhaps investment in the midlanders’ attacking assets for the double Gameweek may not be a bad idea after all.

Meanwhile, Gimli Son of Gloin has taken an epic trek through the main captaincy options to help those looking at heavy hitters over the first few weeks. SW6’s Home and Away analysis was another post to catch our eye, especially his look at West Ham’s shockingly poor away form.

Finally, Camzy was on hand to wrap up some other key decisions that have been vexing the community over the last week, such as Anelka versus Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez as a cheap striker option. Whether to invest in Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet and a non-playing goalkeeper, as opposed to picking up two rotating keepers, was another key question analysed in this post.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) reached the second round of bidding for midfielders over the week. Man City, owned by Messimerized, went on quite a shopping as they acquired the duo of David Silva and Javier Martinez. Meanwhile Fulham, under PeppieandFelix, still lead the game, with Norwich, led by The Shadow, and 4vets’ Liverpool inching closer to the lead. The deadline for submission of bids on strikers is Saturday 23.59 hrs BST. Anyone interested can still sign up here.

Meanwhile, FFS UEFA’s leagues returns for another instalment this coming season. Click here to sign up.

Just to pour some petrol onto the Kolorov fire which is surely burning in the loins of some posters on here....

If Pellegrini is planning a 4-2-3-1 with Silva/Jovetic as the left-sided player in the 3, neither of those are natural wingers. He's been known to use fullbacks to provide the width in such a situation before... maybe he thinks Kolorov is the more attacking option in that regard.

    Nudge nudge wink wink.

Maybe but Clichy is no stranger to getting forward and he is far, far better defensively than Kolarov.

Haha don't do it. Every week I see someone complaining about Kolarov and it's the same people that always buy him AFTER his 1 start in 5 games...

Clichy is alright going forward (he's no Kolarov) but he's also 10 times the defender.

So sad that he's 5m. Far too much for a Cardiff defender. If he'd have moved before he may well have come in at 4.5m and been a far better option.

Pelligrinni has said he's going to use him as his main striker + he's been scoring pre-season.

Seems mad that he's signed 2 new strikers if thats the case, but thats what he said yesterday.

        Whats mad about it?

Balotelli and Tevez needed replacing, clubs like that like to have 4 strikers, Negredo could well be signed as a squad player, ignore how much he was signed for as that has no relivance when you consider Dzeko has been a 30m sub.

I wonder if the main striker thing was lost in translation, as Dzeko over Negredo and a fit Aguero seems strange...

Chuba Akpom has been banging them in in pre-season too.

Depends if he wants a big man upfront I guess.

Dzeko fits that mould and if you want it to be judged on price than Dzeko also cost more.

Some Australian news outlet carried a quote from Pellegrini saying Dzeko was his "main striker". No-one can find the original Spanish so we don't know if it's an accurate translation.

Also, Dzeko is starting up front against Milan, along with Jovetic, Aguero being injured.

I speak Spanish but its hard with the translator speaking over him. As far as i can tell it is unclear whether he says the main striker or a main striker. He goes on to say we need more than one player in each position. Personally, given Dzeko has played in the Premiership before, I reckon him and Aguero (if fit) will get the nod in the first game. If Negredo impresses as a sub then he will get his place in the next week or three - the usual routine.

Ok. Translation from what he said with the occasional paraphrase.

With regards to Dzeko I believe his future is decided and has been for some time. I see Dzeko as a starter and I expect a high level of performance just as he had when he was playing here in Germany. And the players that have come in are there to help the squad which needs to have two players in each position. So I don't think there's a question about Dzeko's future.

Though we didn't see it I believe the journalist's question was about the future of Dzeko at City, so him being a "starter" doesn't definitely mean he'll always start...

However, i expect Shaw to improve this season....tough call, i too had to pick from them both and have gone for Shaw against my better judgement in the hope he improves on last year.

Giroud will do a Dzeko this year, he scored 17 times and got around 11 assists last year in all comps, in reality he struggled to settle at the start, he will have a strong year this year now hes had a year to get used to it.

Just made a great chilli con carne, had it wit sour cream and guacamole on the side. But I suppose you'll need rice with it, unless you want to go mad and put it on some nachos.

If Dzeko does well in this tournament he could be #1 striker at Man C, with Aguero being doubtful. Am I right to assume both Jovetic and Negredo are more versatile and cna play in the hole, on the wing etc.

Pellegrini does play with 2 target men when he's playing against lesser teams. Navas/Silva/ Jovetic et al all make runs off the front 2 and one drops deep and one stays forward. Takes a bit of intelligence up front.

if you have him you have to

Bit light on dgw players. Also he doesn't seem to pay much heed to fixtures. Bony could be great, but there are many other good strikers with better fixtures early on.

    Mignolet (Boruc)
    Coleman- Agger- Shaw- Koscielny (Collins)
    Walcott- Hazard- Mirallas- Wanyama (Sissoko)
    RVP- Lukaku (Gayle)

Would I be better off getting rid of RVP and getting two solid strikers, maybe Bony and Negredo?

      Danlenihan,
      it looks decent team.
RVP leaves you light in one or two positions, with the money, but you get what you pay for, and RVP should at least be on form.
Me, I went strong across the middle 5, and took the medium cost option of strikers up front.

      Cech (BORUC)
      COLEMAN - Garriado - Clyne - KOSCIELNY - COLLINS
Silva- HAZARD- MIRALLAS - Navas - Coutinho
      Aspas - J-ROD - LUKAKU

Replaced Bale with him yesterday. He could be a good pick indeed.
      My front 8 is:
      Walcott Silva Hazard KDB Thomas
      RvP Aspas J.Rod
