KPI Analysis – Robin Van Persie

A fortnight ago, we rolled out a Preview Movie of the latest addition to our Members Area – the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) tables. Essentially, these track the frequency of certain key statistics that can help Fantasy managers identify a player’s form – whether it be a turn for the good or worse – over a Gameweek range or season. With this in mind, our first KPI focused members article looks at Robin Van Persie’s first season at United compared to his final year leading the line for Arsenal.

By tracking Van Persie’s frequency of key stats, Fantasy managers can begin to quantify and identify the exact areas of the Dutchman’s game that have altered since his move to Old Trafford last summer as they prepare potential investment for the season ahead.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Not sure I like all the news about Diego Costa to Liverpool. This could mean that we're willing to sell Suarez.

Find it hard to believe that Liverpool would be willing to sell him to Arsenal, unless they officially have given up considering themselves a top 4 contender.

Well if Real fail to get Bale then surely Suarez is their plan B. Other than Real I dont know if anyone have shown interest, so he may just stay at Liverpool.

I dont see Costa as a possible replacement for Suarez. He is a natural left winger, and would strengthen pools left attacking side and allow coutinho to play more central on a regular basis after they did not get Mkhitaryan

Rate My Team :* Currently running 3-5-2, Give us your thoughts!

    Mignolet (Mannone)
    Cole, Coleman, Mertesacker (Chester, Parr)
Silva, Walcott, Mirallas, Hazard (c), Sessengnon
    Dzeko, Soldado (Rodriguez)

This is assuming Soldado is priced at 9, If any extra cash is needed then Mertesacker > Shaw or Rodriguez > Cornelious to free up a bit. Im liking Sessengnon as a unique, priced very well. Thoughts?

How much AVL cover do people have for the DGW? I'm on Benteke and Vlaar at the moment, I got some ridicule for considering an AVL defender but I've been thinking about it and it kinda makes sense with Vlaar's goal potential and the fact that Sunderland managed to get a cleanie GW1 against Arsenal away last season...

Actually no, I've been working it out and because the nailed-on AVL defenders are so cheap that you can bench them for gw 2/3 and play them again in their decent fixtures in GW 4 and 5 without having to transfer them out like you have to do with the Chelsea players. I am aware that this is a bit of a punt but for 4.5 million, why not? Especially when Vlaar is 100% nailed-on to start both matches and there are major question marks surrounding the starting security of most other 4.5 choices (Yanga, Collins, norwich's Turner etc etc). Just a thought.

It's an interesting thought, but you have to look beyond the DGW. I'd rather have Collins/Turner (if fit)/Clyne than Vlaar. 4.5 defenders aren't usually the #1 transfer priority to "fix".

RVP vs Aguero/Negredo is one of the big conundrums for first three games... Leaning towards Aguero simply beacuse the extra 3m allows +1 big hitter in midfield or attack...

If Arsenal have a genuine shot at signing Suarez, and their sole competitor for his signature is Real who have him as their plan B, should they fail to land Bale, then surely that must be something Spurs are taking into account when dealing with Real. Sell your best player and your main opponent gets the player they want, or wait a season, keep the player, and watch your opponent lose out on another transfer target.

Lots of if's but's and maybe's I know, but Im just airing some thoughts.

Spurs will take the money.classic stockbroking ,bale will surely never be worth moreand it means a lot of options in the whole scheme of things, also bale I would say is reasonably fragile and so there is a chance of a long lay off, take the dough levy and move on.....

With RMT aplenty, and all manner of advice being sought and given, it got me thinking of the best and worst advice i've ever offered or received.

For me, the worst advice I gave was not to get Ryan Taylor two seasons back. He was 4.5 and his price was about to rocket thanks to a run of goals, assists and CS.

The worst advice I took was to get Mauro Boselli. Enough said.

So what have your best and worst pieces of advice been?

Been playing quite casual and only been focusing ob winning my mini leagues (which i did), landed around 12k overall last year.
Got my sights on top 1k this year, is there any obvious things i should look out for to up my game to the top? Currently it seems like the only things to look out for that i didnt do before, is to look at fixtures 5-6 games ahead and combine teama like cardiff/swansea so i get more home games.

Bonus question: never been sure of this, but is it players picking the players, or their score that determines if tjy rise in price or not? And will this be affecting how many players chooae them before start, or is it the change after the first gameweek that affects it?

No players prices will change before the season starts, prices are affected by transfers in/out during gameweeks. Keep an eye on here during the season and there will be plenty of links to the way prices work.

No obvious tips from me as to how to finish in the top 1k but best of luck with it 🙂

I put my improvement last season down to keeping a much closer eye on price changes in the 1st half of the season. Use fiso or Total FPL. Making changes at the beginning of the week sometimes rather than waiting for possible news during the week.

Yeah, I've seen the fixtures. They aren't the only team with a nice start though and I think there's a lot of other options out there who are perhaps more likely to get guaranteed minutes than the options above.

I might take Kompany, I think he is being hugely overlooked on here.

Interesting article but illustrates how limited stats are when picking a team for the upcoming season. Becoming a member this season, I'm seeking to strike a balance between sticking to instinct and using stats to guide my selections. Lots of detail and relevant stats in trying to predict the future, but ultimately whether RVP justifies selection comes down to how creative you see Man Utd being and how they'll handle the transition from Ferguson to Moyes.

I'm going to be leaving him out of my GW1 squad based on fixtures and added uncertainty with SAF no more. I agree that making plans for specific transfers early doors is likely to result in hits but there are enough midfielders in the 7-7.5m budget I can downgrade a Hazard or Cazorla to early doors to help raise the funds for RVP, come GW4 when there is a kind fixture and we will have more indication of form.

    With RVP

    Foster
    Collins, Clyne, Coleman, Turner
    Mirallas, Bale, Hazard, Nolan
    Berbatov, RVP, JRod

    Without RVP
    Foster
    Collins, Clyne, Coleman
    Mirallas, Bale, Hazard, Coutinho
    Berbatov, Benteke, Lukaku

    Thanks everyone 🙂
