KPI Analysis – Lambert and Rodriguez

Over the last few weeks, a combination of factors have elevated Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez into many pre-season Fantasy squads. The Saints’ kind opening run of fixtures has caught the eye, while Rodriguez’s more budget-friendly appeal over Rickie Lambert has also played a part in how we assess his potential across the Fantasy games. Having scored three times in the opening couple of summer friendlies, Rodriguez has been quick to hit form and as interest in the former Burnley man gathers, we use the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to analyse the impact of Mauricio Pochettino on both Rodriguez and Lambert over the previous season.

As mentioned previously, the KPI helps us track certain key statistics which are indicative of a player’s form over a certain Gameweek range or season. Having ran the rule over Robin Van Persie’s impact at United compared to his final year with Arsenal, we delve into last season’s data to look at the Saints duo’s performances from Gameweek 1-22 under Nigel Adkins compared to Gameweek 23-38, when Pochettino was installed as the new man in charge at St Mary’s. By also utilising the Comparison Tool across the two periods, there’s plenty for Fantasy managers to mull over.

    New rule:

When posting an RMT no listing 2 teams and looking for a comparison of both

Just post your team - otherwise we would call it RMTS

    Thank you

I like this rule. Don't really mind RMTs but double or triple RMTs in the same post is a killer.....

      Agreed
Most of these teams are the same except for 2 or 3 players anyway and its a pain in the arse to see where theyre different

Its easier to just list the different players and say something like,
      should i choose
      (A) Coleman, Walcott and Aguero or
      (B)Baines, Cazorla and Dzeko
      bla bla bla

    RMT?

    I'm going with the SOTON/West Ham/Foster alternation.

    ------------------------ Foster ------------------------
    ------- Ivanovic --- G. Johnson --- Rat --------
    Bale - Coutinho - Hazard [C] - Snodgrass
    ---------- Anelka - Lukaku [V] - Dzeko ------

Bench: Boruc / Shaw - Parr / Kim

    I have 1.5m left over.

I am most worried about whether or not Johnson is overkill, if Anelka will keep up his form, and if Clyne (over Shaw) will be healthy before GW1.

Johnson had excellent minutes for 'pool last year, in addition to creating key passes and having a high passing %, but at 6m, he is pricey.

Shaw is probably a lock, but I'd prefer Clyne since he has more experience. Anyone have any insight into whether Clyne will be fit for GW1?

I originally had Ruiz as my 3rd striker, but with Fulham's adoption of Taarabt, I'm not certain of his position or playing time.

Any recommendations would be incredibly appreciated! I look forward to being a vocal part of this community!

Foster 5cs in last 33 league games last year

Ivan, haz luk at least one has to go pre blank

Rat we don't know how he will settle in epl and has demel for competition

Bale could be moving before window closes end sept

Cout had a good post xmas but loads of players have done that and bombed the following year. Jelly and cisse most recently. Whats the diff between him and sterling? One is a bit older but both have had a half season of good form.

Snodgrass can have long runs of 2pts before a big score. If he goes first 3/4 gws with nothing what are you going to want to do?

Anelka likely to be no more than back up for long

          Dzeko heavy rotation

Shaw still young and likely to be rotated like he was last year

          Par no potential for anything

Kim we don't know how he will do v epl defences

I'm just not so certain about that, yet. What with Perez coming out and saying the price is too high and he and Levy apparently NOT meeting in Miami... I'm going to keep him in there until I hear otherwise or he winds up playing for Wales against Ireland, despite being "injured" during preseason.

I have something similar, a couple of points to make.

Rat is a gamble (but I like it) if he can get game time than you are onto a winner there.

The Bale situation is something I am still unresolved on. Pretty much no pre-season, and if he sulks about not being sold, will he play to the best of his ability? Its a question I have been asking myself.

Johnson is a good shout. Great point to game ratio, and if we can keep more clean sheets (as everyone is expecting) than his attacking points should work great. Pretty much no competition in that position as well.

Again, the Shaw Clyne issue is something I am waiting on - whichever is fitter (both have been ill and lacking in match fitness) will go into my team.

Keep Anelka - experienced, firing them on pre season (unless another forward is brought into the mix) will at least get some game time. Ruiz is lazy in my opinion, and does not work well when Berb's doesn't.

Not considering spending that 1.5 mil somewhere in the team? Or saving up?

        Final a positive response! Haha.

Yes, I too wonder about Bale's fitness/attitude for GW1. He has been called up for the Welsh squad against Ireland coming up. If he doesn't play for Spurs on Saturday and DOES play for Wales on 8/14, then my fervor to keep him in the side will be significantly diminished.

I think Johnson should also be able to get some decent BAPS, as well. He played A LOT better last season, and he racked up minutes. If Agger goes to Barca, Johnson, Toure, and Enrique will have to hold it down.

Shaw/Clyne is rough, and I hope to hear more about Clyne getting some playing time soon. I'd hate to have to use transfer on him later (though I don't plan on him playing GW1, so I might put him in the provisional squad).

Anelka has been firing on all cylinders for West Brom thus far, and I think he will probably play alongside Long, if not replace him at times.

Ruiz has been on fire this pre-season, too, but Taarbt's appearance, and relative selfishness, could unhinge his points/position.

1.5m is for saving up. I plan on changing Ivanovic after GW1, possibly for Coleman. Then I have 3m saved up so that I could maybe upgrade Anelka or Snodgrass if I'm feeling it or if there is someone on fire.

Absolutely delighted for Rickie Lambert. Finally rewarded for a superb season last year. Just a shame that Jermain Defoe and Danny Welbeck will probably start ahead of him

I'm one. I'd say J-Rod is Pochy's kind of player so expect him to improve on last season and rise in price. Lambert's goals may drop but assists increase.

I still expect Lambert to be at the crux of our attack, unless we do pull off a new signing - recently linked to Sow. But people may well disagree.

    Pick one from each team:

    Walcott(9.5) vs Giroud(8.5)
    Hazard(9.5) vs Lukaku(8.0)
    Coutinho(9.0) vs Sturridge(9.0)
    Bale(12) vs Soldado(9.5)
    Michu(9.0) vs Bony(8.0)
    Nolan(7.0) vs Carroll(7.5)
    Baines(7.5) vs Mirallas(7.5)

    Take price into consideration.

Thats interesting, the score so far is:

      Walcott(10) vs Giroud (1)
Hazard (11) vs Lukaku (1) includes 1 point each where both were voted
Coutinho (5.5) vs Sturridge (5.5) includes 1/2 pt each for a not sure
Bale (3.5) vs Soldado (8.5) includes 1 pt each for both voted and 1/2 pt each for a ?
Michu (3) vs Bony (7) includes 0 pts for a 'neither'
Nolan (6) vs Carroll (4) includes 0 pts for a 'neither'
      Baines (2) vs Mirallas (9)

      - The shocker is most people think Mirallas will outscore Baines for the same money. Fitness and game time permitting Mirallas will need a 170pt season - thats NEVER gonna happen!!

      - Other surprise is Soldado over Bale, it was a tight call for me but Soldado 8.5 to 3.5 ahead. I dont think he'll get close to Bales total last year (249) or the yr before (195) but he is cheaper....

J.Rod was one of first names in my team after Bale, Hazard and Walcott.
Week ago it was he's time to go and went for Dzeko, Lukaku & Benteke.

Not entirely happy for that front three, but team without bale and rvp, doesn't really need J.Rod anymore...or do you still have him?

Is it just me, or does this article miss something?

It compares how the 2 players differed under Pochtinho.
But it doesn't compare actual stats with each other.

As in, JRods 23-38 stats might have gone greener than JRod 1-22, but were they greener than Lambert 23-38?

Not in terms of, JRod improved more than Lambert improved. But more, on numbers alone, how do they compare?

Did JRod have more goals or chances or shots than Lambert these weeks?

Ok some great advice regarding my team (page 1) and I have gone away and had a tinker.
    1) I like Soldado but perhaps it is best to save £0.5m and plump for Sturridge (tried and tested).
    2) Walcot is probably better value so I have put him in ahead of Santi
    3) Alcaraz is too risky
    4) Perhaps Migs is worth the extra million over Boruc
    5) Downgrading Kone to Anelka frees up some good cash
    6) I am not sold on Anelka
    7) Plan is in week 3 to downgrade my Chelsea defender to Turner/Williams/Chester and upgrade Anelka

    Looking better?

    Mignolet - Davis
Luiz - Mertesacker- Collins (Brayford - Yoshida)
Hazard - Walcott- Snodgrass - Nolan (Thomas)
    RVP - Anelka- Sturridge

Migs is better than Boruc (even though I am still tempted to save the mil and go for that partnership
Mert will play - Toure is a risk
Snod is proven - Kim is a huge gamble for a first choice spot
Anelka is cheap - Lukaku is expensive and a rotation risk (though not the worst week 1 gamble)

Maybe you want to consider turning your team into mine 🙂

I think Cahill is more likely to play. But opinions are all anyone has on this matter.

Cahill is a bit of a doubt, considering Mourinho's love of JT?
