The Community Round Up

A certain Dutchman, misfiring premium midfielders and the Fantasy Premier League Bonus Points System’s (BPS) love affair with centre-backs dominated discussions among the Fantasy Football Scout community this week. We also catch up with the latest goings-on in the community leagues taking place this season.

Hottest Topics

A look at the top ten FPL points scorers  does not contain a single midfielder; a worrying development for those Fantasy managers used to premium midfielders dominating the game. The fate of expensive midfielderS has been a key discussion this week with QPR Expects…Glory among the pessimists who believe the premium midfield era is over and it is time to invest in centre backs instead. Arsene’s Boys, however, is more optimistic, pointing out that we are just two games into the season. In addition many of last year’s star midfielders such as Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla failed to perform early on, he notes.

As premium midfielders fail to excite us there is now plenty of interest in centre-backs. But is their dominance of the bonus points shortlived? Jamsiep, wonders whether we are experiencing a false dawn, due to a lower than average number of goals being scored this season. His excellent post suggests that centre-backs may not be so fortunate when the goal rate picks up.

Still on the same subject, SAAB has been considering that many of the league’s most attacking teams simply do not have a suitable midfield option for Fantasy managers. He points out that teams such as Tottenham, Manchester United, Southampton and Aston Villa currently just have forwards worth our consideration.

If Wayne Rooney stays at Manchester United could he match Robin Van Persie’s expected returns? King Nemanja’s  analysis of Rooney and RVP performances together last season provides interesting reading for those looking for a cut-price root into Manchester United’s attack.

Owning Van Persie obviously makes captaincy decisions much easier. But for those looking to mix up their armband selection, Impressive Tackle has compiled this handy long term guide to the best non-RVP captains available  all the way up to Gameweek 20.

Finally, Isacki has been taking a look  at price changes and reckons it is far tougher for players to rise in price this season. His analysis also takes a look at the time price changes kick in and how ownership level and flags influence price falls.

Community Leagues

Heels Over Head’s Worst to First 2Million+Club league, which is open to anyone who has an overall rank below 2 million during one of the first five Gameweeks, is currently topped by Gokyo Locos who rose more than 700,000 places on his long march to the top. The code to join this FPL league 459213-545168.

Patrick Star retains his lead in Fifa Las Vegas’s 28-strong league, with a score of 154, closely followed by Messimerized with 151. In joint third on 144 points are MB10 and Somebody’s Gonna Get Lit Up.

Thomass67 and Peppie and Felix’s  league is split into three  groups and topped by Thomass, Daniel and Forca Inter.

The leaders of In Tommy We Trust’s five leagues are ENR, RDB007, Forca Inter, Mind Over Mata and Chazza.

Forca Inter also topped Torres Magic’s Last Man Standing and Early Bird leagues. In the Early Bird league, 349 managers remains after 200 were knocked out, while in the Last Man Standing League, 995 are left after 43 Fantasy managers were sent packing. Entries are still open for the Early Bird League.

In the FFS UEFA leagues, Tommy Tour, the manager of Real Madrid, registered the highest score of the round, with a haul of 75 points.

The most closely fought battle in the week was in their Bundesliga league where The Shadow beat Jack off Attack by just one point. Elsewhere in their leagues , The Light Knight’s Norwich continued to maintain a stronghold on FFS UEFA’s weekly Order of Extreme Valour Award, opted to those who make the most left field choices. He opted for a 5-2-3 formation, which saw both Leighton Baines and Emmanuele Giaccherini pitching in with nine points each. His cumulative score, 67 points, was more than enough to beat the dullard team of his unfortunate opponent Jonty by 11 points.

Some late FFS UEFA news that missed last week’s round up from Gameweek 1 involved the group’s second Super Cup, in which 2012/13’s Europa League winner Acquafresca emerged triumphant 88-76 against last season’s Champions League winner MJ6987.

Meanwhile, the The FFS UEFA Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) comes to a grand finale this week with the TWS End of Season Party on Monday  September 2nd at 20:00 BST, in which team vacancies will be filled by auto-select in a live interactive draw, leaving each team’s fate up to their random number selection. The Shadow‘s Norwich is hotly pursued by a chasing pack of Zep‘s Arsenal, PeppieandFelix‘s Fulham and 4Vets‘ Liverpool. FFS UEFA also tell us that a brand new competition will be launched immediately after the TWS concludes.

In Doosra and Ginkapo’s It’s a Long and Winding Road competition the main league leader is still Back on the Horse. Meanwhile, the leaders of their H2H leagues are: TommyTour, Turbo Dog, MsRed19, Beric, Doolittle, Dino, Konig Luther.

I'm not. I feel like at his price, there's virtually no chance that he exceeds his value, although there's probably a decent chance that he won't underperform it either given how consistent over the last 2.5 years. If you go with RVP, you're basically betting that the other options in the game will all underperform, and given how well the alternative striking options are doing I'm not willing to make that bet.

The real attraction of getting RVP is the captaincy though. You can effectively double his points for the year, and suddenly 14m doesnt look as expensive for 500 points. Captaining other players just isnt as certain

      1. Doubling up on chelsea defence
      2. Verthonghen & chadli as spurs coverage
      3. Getting darren bent
      4. Having only 4 "big hitters" (michu, theo, bentekkers, studge)

    Morning chaps,

So Chester (mcy) is the obvious weakness in my team then, but is it worth taking a hit to replace Toure and benching Chester this week? I'd like to keep circa 1.5 in the bank for Dzeko -> Benteke next week, so that leaves me up to 6.2m for a Toure replacement if I go ahead.

Yes: Chester is likely to score 1 point max, plus none of my bench will likely start (may struggle to field 11 if any players get rested etc). Could get a long term hold like Coleman or Vidic, and also gain some team value (and avoid a loss on Toure). Could even downgrade to Collins and bank some extra cash.

No: It might not make up the 4 pointer this week. Chester 'could' still score well. Point hits are baaaaad.

    Boruc
    Zaba, Ward, Chester
    Walcott, Silva, Nolan, Mirallas
    Dzeko, Soldado, Sturridge

I'd take the hit since you're probably going to have to sell Toure eventually anyway. I like Vidic, but will he play week in week out when the fixtures start getting congested?

But like Grounderz said, wait until Friday at least.

    1. Are we ready for the GW 4 WC teams asking for RMWCT?
    2. Are we ready to reply to endless to RVP or not to RVP posts (which may include me as well)?

Have 15.5m to spend on a mid and fwd, for a hit, to field a full squad.

    Walcott Coutinho Mirallas x (Lampard)
    Dzeko x (Benteke)

    Am thinking
    Rooney + Brady
    Soldado + Ars 5.5
    Chamakh/Anelka/Cardiff guy + Michu

Am trying to avoid two mid priced guys as I will have no attackers less than 7m and therefore a selection headache every week unless I wildcard next week.

Comments on these or other suggestions would be appreciated.

You guys are killing me! I could go Soldado and Rooney but it would cost me Benteke and another hit, both of which I am avoiding.

Acquafresca, I just scrolled through the last few pages to catch up and I saw your post about TV. Could not agree with you more. Prices are important, but TV is a poor measure of team health and potential.

I agree as well. Every time I did a transfer due to a price move last season (esp early in th week) , it failed. Also ended up anchored on players at end of the season whose sale value was far less than I could buy them back for.

I think it's probably 60:40 against whether any transfer makes up the 4 pointer this week, unless i cant field 11 (which swings it the other way), but longer term I think it could be worthwhile.

If making the transfer which would you say is the best option for 6.2m or below? Thinking Vidic/Walker atm.

First off, I don't buy the theory never taking hits on defenders.

I do like the look on Vidic and I think he can get something out for the next ten gameweeks - solid partnership between him and Rio but rotation-wise, we are still far from certain what Moyes plans to do.

gw 4 I think I keep WC and hit 4 point for
    Lambert > Rooney
    Miralas > Ward-Prowse

    team go with
    Boruc (Davis)
    Coleman, Toure, Cole (Chester, Burner)
    Hazard, Silva, Walcott, Barkley (Ward-Prowse)
    Soldado, Sturridge, Rooney
    and 0.5 in bank

Michu, more goal potential ; playing oop (might not last though when bony recovers , still will play in the hole superior position to coutinho).

I have worked out i can do Ivanovich to Collins this week

Then Dzeko to Rooney for gameweek 4 without having to take a single hit. Would need a -8 to get Van Persie , so im going with Rooney.

He wasnt even motivated last season yet still produced almost as good returs as RVP when they played together. Now in world cup year he suddenly looking revitalised with a point to prove

Unless i wildcard then it going be Rooney for me

This week we see the real Tottenham

First two matches have been against park the bus opponents who would of been more than happy with a draw.
This week we will get to see them with some space to counterattack . Chadli , Soldado and Paulino will have the chances to show what they can do

Really looking forwards to this one.
Have Captained Walcott , mainly because i cant trust a city player with the armband , and Walcott in the last match of the weekend , i prefer that in a captain ,

I think there is a trend where top teams who play bottom-tabled teams - or teams likely to concede heavily - will only come out with a 1-0 or lower than what was originally expected, and then goals galore for Sunday or Monday night games.

I'm not having it with Van Persie having a walk in the park against Palace on a Saturday noon. Palace gave a low 1-0 to Spurs and they may do the same.

Was tinkering with the team late last night and then went to bed. Then had a very vivid dream that Walcott got sent off v spurs (it was graphic, I remember what the comentators were saying, replayed the incident several times from different angles etc etc). I woke up in a cold sweet remembering I had the armband on him and then realised it was just a dream.......

Now seriously thinking about swapping the armband to Silva.

What would you do? leave on wally and just ignore it as being a bit mental, or swap it over to Silva?

In the subject of captain Silva, I think is more a question of weather City will score plenty of goals. He's not an explosive player. But being at corner kicks and some freekicks, nailed on and an advanced midfield roll, if City score 4 goals its hard to imagine silva scoring less than 7 points. And could be more. Couple of assists or a goal and i'll be happy. it's safer than it looks IMO
