The Community Round Up

Tottenham’s new recruits and the start of the Champions League group stages were among the hottest topics being discussed by the community over the international break. We also find out how FFS UEFA’s transfer window simulation game concluded and welcome aboard a new moderator to the Fantasy Football Scout team.

Hottest Topics

Tottenham have so many new arrivals following the close of the transfer window that it is hard to keep up with their likely starting XI. Luckily our resident video expert Brutus619 had his finger on the pause button to analyse attacking midfielder Erik Lamela’s displays and assess whether he is the real deal as a Fantasy prospect.

Robin Van Persie continues to divide the community, with one group of players set for glory, while the other bracing themselves for  disappointment. BigFatFrank has decided to give those wildcarders looking to shoehorn the Dutch striker into their team a step by step guide to creating the perfect RVP team. Meanwhile, 7 Shades of Smoke has ben debunking the popular “keep calm and captain RVP” mantra and wondering if it is nothing but a myth.

Elsewhere,Iain_90 ponders whether there’s any weight to the theory of “attacking coverage” across the most offensive teams or if it’s best just targeting certain individuals.

Bonus points and their sudden shine to defenders continues to dominate discussion. King Nemanja is so convinced that the recent glut of bonus points for defenders is no mere fluke that he is prepared to commit himself to a four at the back formation to ensure his team cashes in. For those wanting to follow his lead he’s come up with some great defensive line ups here.

The Champions League is almost here and in our discussion on the best options out there HeyDudes13 has some great budget options to consider  and Konig Luther’s lengthy list in this thread is also well worth looking at.

Worryingly for the community, international injuries have been mounting up this last week, with Liverpool right back Glen Johnson among those possibly destined for a lengthy stay in the physio room. Archie has been running the rule over the candidates who are likely to replace Johnson while he recovers.

Finally, Maxi’s top ten tips for mini-league success provided some useful, albeit sneaky and underhand, advice for winning a mini-league.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) game came to a finale during the international break with Norwich led by The Shadow being crowned TWS Champions. The rest of the top 5 was rounded off by PeppieandFelix‘s Fulham, Liverpool owned by 4vets, Arsenal guided by Zep and HVT‘s Aston Villa. FFS UEFA also tell us that places are still up for grabs in their FA Cup style game. If you are interested sign up here  by the deadline of 11:59pm BST, September 22. Those already involved in the FFS UEFA leagues and those who applied unsuccessfully to be a part of that competition have all been given an automatic space so do not need to apply.

    Chadli to Eriksen FT?

Eriksen's playing time still seems unresolved. And even if he starts, you can see a twitchy AVB subbing him off at 60 - 70 minutes for one of their other myriad MF options. Hold for now, or go for HBA, or Lampard.

as much as i like Eriksen. still dont think he's a better option than Lamps/Benarfa/Nolan. sure he'll be regular in the next 3-4 games, but he hasn't played yet. would go for Lamps instead.

This is my WC team as it stands

    Mignolet Boruc
    Zabaletta - Vidic - Coleman - Chester - Ward
    Walcott - Barkley - Lamela - Brady - Coutinho
    Sturridge - Benteke - Coutinho

Very similar to Spoox777 I see. Is it really worth taking it apart to shoehorn RVP in?

        Thanks RCA

Agreed on Snoddy, was considering an upgrade to Michu but not really a priority vs pool is it? I'd have definitely switched Silva/Snoddy out if there were any options. No mid options really stand out, hence looking to save FT and some money in the bank for any future wagons.

RVP? Am I worried? Indeed, but pretty satisfied with the 3 strikers, considering they're all the main source of goals in their respective sides.

I think Hammers defense is going to unravel over the course. Collins >Luna even?

I will be hiding under the sofa every time Sir Perc plays but I'm convinced being without him this year will be the correct one (cough)

I'm not a fan of Sol. or Sturr. but could be proved wrong there over the next 6 games.

      Well thought out team.

Interesting views. Always thought Hammers play for a clean sheet most of the time. You may be right though with the fixtures not looking particularly good.

You must have quite the differential strikeforce if you've avoided all those 3 strikers.

Does having RVP really weaken a side? Seeing as there are no good premium midfielders at the mo bar Wally and you can pick up great value at the back from the big clubs for 5-6m I think having an RVP side is a must. Studge now has injury doubts. Soldado is yet to do much from open play. Giroud is a must as the only Arsenal striker. Red hot form and cheap. Having RVP just means you have to play a Barkley or Brady who are doing just as good as the premium midfielders. Plus there is too much to lose if your rivals captain RVP. Why risk not having him?

I think we'd all be joking ourselves if we said they weren't going to come good. The higher priced mids will finish ahead of the likes of Barkley, who won't break 100 this year.
I'm not saying he's wrong to go without them, I just think he's wrong to say there's no good premium mids.

Ozil hasn't played yet. Hazard has been pedestrian. Lamela hasn't played yet. Coutinho has been ordinary. All expensive and players that are a good few mil more than midfielders who have already produced like Hernandez and Brady. I think RVP is as sure a thing as you get on FPL. Why risk not having him? He'll have more points at the end of the year than any of the players you mentioned.

Having said that about the mids, RVP hasn't exactly been of fire either. There will definitely be some mids that will score bucket loads out of the premium ones.

It's just a matter of opinion and I certainly don't think RVP is a must.

Main reason is i dont want to have to spend 9m on a midfielder

If i get Soldado i can get a cheaper mid as dont need to cover Tottenham

Lamela is more unproven than Soldado , hes had one good season in the italian league , and not many of them seem to thrive in the premier league. Not like the la liga players

Another thing with Benteke he scored lots of his goals on the counter when villa were being battered.
Now they have improved the opposition wont be giving them as much space

I think you've played a wet kipper there.

My biggest headache is picking Agbon over Tekkers. If you have watched Villa over the course you should appreciate one of the best improved teams in the Prem.

I want to follow success and passion.

I remember when I thought Gabby was awesome running around up front with Luke Moore and Ashley Young. Those were the good ol' Martin O'Neill days when you could rely on Villa to start strong and fade, a perfect counterpoint to Moyes typical Everton club that started off terrible and finished strong.

Some good films in that list. I don't agree with Shawshank winning, as I think there are at least 2 similar prison escape films that are better, but there's no doubt it's a great film.

That's the fun of the game, everyone has contrasting opinions. All of them have been a ball, as its initiated a lot of discussion.

In the end I think it was a close fought battle between Godfather and Shawshank in the end.

      I like it.

Chester and Shaw are at home with winnable fixtures. Coleman in good form. Nice and cheap back line. Always good.

Midfield is good. Maybe you can be one of the few who capitalizes on Coutinho moving position. I'm not convinced by Kim. Hasn't done much yet and therefore punty. Play Hernandez.

I'm not sold on Soldado yet but again could be very good against Norwich especially with the new supply line behind him. Overall a really good team.
