The Community Round Up

Tottenham’s new recruits and the start of the Champions League group stages were among the hottest topics being discussed by the community over the international break. We also find out how FFS UEFA’s transfer window simulation game concluded and welcome aboard a new moderator to the Fantasy Football Scout team.

Hottest Topics

Tottenham have so many new arrivals following the close of the transfer window that it is hard to keep up with their likely starting XI. Luckily our resident video expert Brutus619 had his finger on the pause button to analyse attacking midfielder Erik Lamela’s displays and assess whether he is the real deal as a Fantasy prospect.

Robin Van Persie continues to divide the community, with one group of players set for glory, while the other bracing themselves for  disappointment. BigFatFrank has decided to give those wildcarders looking to shoehorn the Dutch striker into their team a step by step guide to creating the perfect RVP team. Meanwhile, 7 Shades of Smoke has ben debunking the popular “keep calm and captain RVP” mantra and wondering if it is nothing but a myth.

Elsewhere,Iain_90 ponders whether there’s any weight to the theory of “attacking coverage” across the most offensive teams or if it’s best just targeting certain individuals.

Bonus points and their sudden shine to defenders continues to dominate discussion. King Nemanja is so convinced that the recent glut of bonus points for defenders is no mere fluke that he is prepared to commit himself to a four at the back formation to ensure his team cashes in. For those wanting to follow his lead he’s come up with some great defensive line ups here.

The Champions League is almost here and in our discussion on the best options out there HeyDudes13 has some great budget options to consider  and Konig Luther’s lengthy list in this thread is also well worth looking at.

Worryingly for the community, international injuries have been mounting up this last week, with Liverpool right back Glen Johnson among those possibly destined for a lengthy stay in the physio room. Archie has been running the rule over the candidates who are likely to replace Johnson while he recovers.

Finally, Maxi’s top ten tips for mini-league success provided some useful, albeit sneaky and underhand, advice for winning a mini-league.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) game came to a finale during the international break with Norwich led by The Shadow being crowned TWS Champions. The rest of the top 5 was rounded off by PeppieandFelix‘s Fulham, Liverpool owned by 4vets, Arsenal guided by Zep and HVT‘s Aston Villa. FFS UEFA also tell us that places are still up for grabs in their FA Cup style game. If you are interested sign up here  by the deadline of 11:59pm BST, September 22. Those already involved in the FFS UEFA leagues and those who applied unsuccessfully to be a part of that competition have all been given an automatic space so do not need to apply.

A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A rabbit asked him,”Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?” The crow answered: “Sure, why not.” So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested.

A fox jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story: To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very high up.

A turkey was chatting with a bull “I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree,” sighed the turkey, but I haven’t got the energy.” “Well, why don’t you nibble on my droppings?” replied the bull. “They’re packed with nutrients.” The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

Moral of the story: Bullshit might get you to the top, but it wont keep you there.

Near the end of last season he was dropped after failing to score or assist for most of the middle of the season. He's likely to play, but most just think Kim is a safer option. The general consensus could definitely be wrong, but I think that's what it is. Cardiff fans might know more.

A WC team with RVP that I'm finally happy with. Planning on rotating Brady & Redmond. I know Chambers isn't a guarantee but it's a risk I'll take w/ Chambers coming off the bench worst case. Looking ok?

Should I be looking at getting them out?

    Szcz - (Harper)
Ivanovic - Toure - Zaba (Brayford, Ward)
Coutinho - Mirallas - Wally - Silva (Wanyama)
    Dzeko - Giroud - Lambert

    1 FT, 1.3 mill.

    Perhaps Toure + Silva -> Sakho + Eriksen/Lamela
Or Silva + Szcz -> Ozil + Migs?

I'd use the same argument to buy RVP. Big cost of £14m but you can still have a very strong squad with him, the points are there 😉
Premium priced mids don't seem to be the way forward this season with the exception of Walcott... and Ozil will be a tempter. Hazard will probably come good soon, but at the moment it's just as good if not better to have £8m Lampard, so it's not that difficult to find the £14m at this point.

I'm just not ready to give up on the high quality mids yet so I am going without. Have yet to see a team with more than 4 or 5 big attackers to go with RVP, which is not enough for me right now.

that he played OOP because Palacios was injured; and Hughes brought in a few players at transfer deadline, so it seems quite uncertain that Wilson will continue to play OOP

Any Fantrax drafters out there? It's pretty quiet so here is my squad for a little RMT/selection feedback.

    Lloris
    Walker Coleman (Lescott)
    Santi Lamela (Mata)
    Benteke Berbatov (Dzeko)

The last two attacking spots are a very tough call.

i drafted last night, and traded out one defender since on waivers so my team is

      Howard
      Evra Lescott (Rangel)
      Cazorla Coutinho Mirallas
      Soldado (Suarez) (Remy)

      as for your RMT

      your defense looks really good

mid is good except the questions marks over Mata. as we get zero points if a player in our lineup doesn't play, players subject to rotation have added risk. on the other hand, game weeks will be friday to friday, so double game weeks will come into play later in the season (per conversation i had with Conrad via e-mail)

bentenke's great and i'd watch the waiver wire for an upgrade on your other strikers who are serviceable, but not consistent (dzeko not getting enough minutes, berbatov playing too deep)

overall, good job with your draft

to see other teams in your division, go under team tab to "team roster chart" and you can see how everyone's team came out

i think i'd start lescott ahead of coleman in a 2-2-2 this week

lastly, i plan on playing the waiver wire every week for match-up defenders unless and until you feel you've got premium defenders who you'd play anytime

Thanks for the feedback. I traded Navas to get Coleman as I just don't want to be second guessing my attacking choices each week. Crazy to own Mata and just have him as a bit player, but so goes it with Chelsea right now. The hardest part of this format as an FPLer is suspending judgments on players that are influenced by price.

Your squad is well set up. Great mids, Soldado, and Suarez in a few weeks. When did he get drafted in your league? He went pretty early in ours but is a perfect stash for our setup.

I was 6th in the 1st round of draft and got Suarez there straight away, and considered myself lucky to get him there.

GKs started going in the 2nd round, I picked Howard in the 10th.

Oddity of our draft was Torres went undrafted (think Eto'o went in 5th). Sad state of affairs for the 50 million man. He got picked up off of waivers today by one of our two folks who were on autodraft because they couldn't be there.

Good on you to trade Navas. Can't see him having much value in fantasy terms. Nice to watch and talented, but no good for fantasy. Can't believe you got someone to give up Coleman for him - that's a great robbery.

I was hoping to grab Suarez in the 2nd and Theo in the 1st but when Theo went off the board right away I froze up and grabbed Benteke. Can't be too mad about him as I consider him a top5 overall but am still wondering if I should have reached for Suarez in the 1st.

The Coleman for Navas deal worked for both of us since he couldn't attend and the autodraft went by this year's points thereby flooding his team with defenders. I think we both filled needs.

Howard is great value there; our GK run went later than yours but Howard did not last that long.

Torres went undrafted in ours as well. So did Mata. I would've drafted Mata late, but I already had 4 mids. The way some people ranked players was interesting. I picked up Lamela in the 5th despite having 3 mids already. I also got Sczesney in the 10th round. We also had 2 goalkeepers go in the 1st round.

    Boruc
    Ivanovic - Chester - Zabaleta
    Silva - Walcott - Michu - Nolan
    Sturridge - Benteke (C) - Soldado

Bench: Davis - Collins - Yacob - Ward

    - Should I go Collins over Chester (3-4-3) or Collins over Nolan (4-3-3) or neither.

scratch that, Arsenal are in a terrible division

your defenders should all come from Chelsea, ManU, PSG, & Port, maybe Shalke (Uchida) and maybe Atletico (Courtois in GK)

      didn't like that?

Deep Space Nine is the best Star Trek series?

Pellegrini will be fired if he doesn't make it to at least the quarter finals of champion's league?

There's something in Arsenal's training regimen that causes their players to be injured frequently, case in point, RVP hasn't been injured since he left.

    Benteke - Bony - Bent
