Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 28

Our new regular round-up of the fresh injury worries occurred over the previous weekend arrives this afternoon. We also dig deeper to discover just why a trio of key players only made the bench over Saturday and Sunday’s fixtures:

Arsenal
Arsene Wenger revealed Mesut Ozil was “fit to start” away to Stoke after recovering from a thigh injury. The German was only utilised as a second-half sub, however, as his manager reckons he has played “many many games” and is wary of fatigue playing a part in his record signing’s displays.

Aston Villa
Chris Herd has only just recovered from a hamstring problem but is out of the picture for the foreseeable future after the club released the following statement yesterday:

“The club can confirm that due to personal reasons Chris Herd will be unavailable for selection until further notice. There will be no further comment and we request that Chris’s privacy be respected.”

Cardiff
Craig Noone took to twitter to confirm he missed yesterday’s trip to Tottenham after picking up ”a slight knock”, though is optimistic of a return in time for the weekend clash against Fulham.

Crystal Palace
Glenn Murray was only fit enough for the bench as Palace travelled to Swansea yesterday. The forward made his first start of the season in Gameweek 27 but dropped out of the starting XI after picking up a knock in midweek. Joe Ledley played the full 90 minutes but is set to be assessed before joining up with the Wales squad this week – the midfielder admitted he is struggling with a hip problem and may have to withdraw from international duties. In the last few minutes, Palace have also confirmed Kagisho Dikgacoi has withdrawn from the South Africa squad to face Brazil because of injury.

Everton
Roberto Martinez admitted Romelu Lukaku was only fit enough to be utilised from the bench after he picked up a chest infection prior to Saturday’s visit of West Ham.

Fulham
Brede Hangeland was forced off early in the first period after an accidental clash of heads with team-mate Kieran Richardson and was taken to hospital for scans on Saturday evening. Fulham confirmed he was given the all-clear to return home, though it’s uncertain whether he will join up with the Norway squad in midweek.

Hull
The match commentary from the club’s official website revealed Curtis Davies “had been limping for much of the second half” before he was subbed off towards the end of Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat by Newcastle.

Newcastle
The Magpies back-up keeper Rob Elliot missed Saturday’s home hammering with a knee problem and has withdrawn from this week’s Republic of Ireland squad.

Norwich
Having been handed his first start since Gameweek 23 last weekend, Rickie Van Wolfswinkel was expected to start for Norwich’s trip to Villa but was ruled out of the match against Paul Lambert’s side with a knee problem, Chris Hughton has revealed. Robert Snodgrass lasted just 45 minutes before being withdrawn at the break due to a wrist injury and has subsequently pulled out of the Scotland squad. The Canaries boss elaborated on the trio after yesterday’s defeat:

“Ricky got a whack on his knee in the Tottenham game. He didn’t train at the beginning of the week but we felt generally it would be okay. Unfortunately it was still too sore come Saturday. Leroy does have a hamstring pull. We are still assessing how bad it is and we had to take Robert off at half-time because he felt his wrist when he fell making a tackle towards the end of the first half so he won’t go with Scotland.”

Earlier this afternoon, Hughton’s worries were compounded by the news that Martin Olsson has been forced to withdraw from Sweden’s midweek friendly with Turkey due to a shoulder problem.

Southampton
The Saints’ official twitter stream confirmed second choice keeper Kelvin Davis missed Saturday’s home loss to Liverpool after picking up a knock.

Swansea
Pablo Hernandez lasted just 22 minutes of the first period before being subbed off with yet another hamstring problem. After yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Palace, Garry Monk also confirmed he subbed off both Ashley Williams and Wilfried Bony due to illness:

“We’ve had illness in the camp over the last few days. Bony’s been ill, Ash was sick all last night and Pablo felt his hamstring in the first minute. Ash was ill today and has two badly bruised toes, but it shows his character and the leader that he is that he continues to play.”

Tottenham
After grabbing a goal and assist in Thursday’s Europa League win over Dnipro, Christian Eriksen was expected to be handed a starting role at home to Cardiff yesterday. Unfortunately for Tim Sherwood’s side, the Dane missed out altogether with a back problem, the club’s official twitter stream has confirmed. Zeki Fryers has withdrawn from the England Under 21 squad this morning with an ankle injury.

Stoke are appealing vigorously against the charge.

I suppose, given that Giroud walked away, by Stoke's standard's that's quite tame

Still, Charlie Adam charged with 'normal conduct' doesn't quite work.

Keeping Yaya has been my only good decsion in the last 2 weeks.

I thought that all the 'options' being considered would likely get 4 points at best

With Snodgrass' injury and Adam's ban, it's looking like 4 was a bit over-otimistic

Purely on the basis that Kun will not likely play 90 v Fulham Yaya is essential for DGW

Kun is City's peno taker, Yaya is 2nd choice

City to get an 80th minute peno

Kun to be subbed around the 70 minute mark.

      Marshall Mannone
      Coleman Ward Clyne Burner Ivanovic
      Mata Eriksen Lallana Hazard Pozuelo
      Suarez Sturridge Adebayor

      I have 0.7 ITB and 2 FTs

I am getting in MOlsson for Clyne on Thursday after Internationals but my question is how should I plan to bring in Yaya? Should I bring him in for Mata for DGW or what should I do?

    My backline is as follows:

Terry, Mertesacker*, Coleman, Fonte and Olsson

Arsenal have shocking fixtures coming up, Ward is cheap and somewhat better fixtures? He would be a rotation with Olsson and also give me fund away from the backline to spend on the Front 7.

    Mertesacker > Ward?

    What do you think?

If you don't already have 3 liverpool, Flanagan costs only 4.3m

AstonVilla have decent fixtures rest of season, so you could look to Nathan Baker, 3.9m

Not sure how serious Jagielka's injury is, but Stones is cheap as well, but Alcaraz could be in the mix as well.

For people who are playing Ultimate Fantasy Premier League, when we get the unlimited transfers, are you going with Sturridge, Suarez and Aguero? If so, what does your midfield look like. I've planned my team out. And the midfields looking very shabby. Only 2 premium midfielders in there, Gerrard and Hazard.

    Repost due to reply fail:

Is RVP the default (C) choice for this week if you have him?

Man Utd are pretty terrible and, even though WBA are too, they've only conceded 5 goals in their last 5 games and that included games vs Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton. Is Hazard maybe the better option after all?

It's the assumption that you're not alone that is so tempting.
It could prove a massive boost if he outscored Hazard, and with so few other options out there it won't be very damaging at all if both him and Hazard were to fail. And I'm backing Chelsea v Spurs to be low scoring.

so looking a bit forward, I made this "dream WC draft of mine", but I am -2.6M short to afford it. Some, like Yaya, will surely drop a bit yet by then, but not that much, as I will try to earn some money during WC week.

Though where would you look for downgrades in order to afford sth similar to this?

    Mannone - 3.9
    Coleman - Azpi - Collins - Ward - Chambers
    Haz - Yaya - Nolan - AJ - Puncheon

    Thanks! 🙂

I'm beginning to favour the idea of holding on to Kos this week and changing to West Ham defender next week instead...

So, by the looks of things, I could have as little as 6 players this week...

    Cahill Ward Evans?? Olsson?
    Hazard Mata Lallana Eriksen?
    Ade
Bench: Adrian, Mannone, Kos, Mirallas S&S..

Really need Evans, Olsson and Eriksen to return to the fold... those extra 3 points will be vital... 😉

Could you get a second Chelsea defender? If you hold I'm not sure a Hammer is the ideal DGW defender looking at the fixture list.

I'd never consider a defender to have a great DGW when the extra game is against Man Utd, despite their troubles this season. Looking beyond the double, I'd be hopeful of a CS in 3 of the last 7 and 2 of those are away. If funds are tight at the back then fair enough but there are more appealing options.

sto MUN/HUL sun looks decent for the next 3 weeks...

It's better than getting Chambers in for what will essentially be for one week...

If I get Azpi, for example, I won't be able to get Yaya & Aguero without major surgery...

But, If I get a cheap 4.5 defender I can...

What about Bardsley? 2 of the doubles have a very bad fixture but 12 games in the last 9 GWs including 5 juicy home fixtures (WBA to appear) has appeal.

I would save a free transfer. That is what i am doing.

If i get Norwich defender in my team then i don't have 3rd defender with good chance of clean sheet in GW 30. So i would get someone like Zabaleta for GW 30 and that would compensate for any loss of points from this week. Thats my way of thinking.

I think it is likely that it is a statistic anomaly, i.e. that they would have had more CSs if they same number of matches were played again with the same numbers of shots and chances conceded. Best theory I've got withoug going into the detail of the QUALITY of shots and chances conceded.
Noticed the same as you as I toyed with the January WC - in the end I did not go for Foster.

Would like a striker, I only have Adebayor for GW29. Not sure what to do.

        My GW29 team is:

        Marshall
        Terry Fonte Olsson
        Hazard Snodgrass Lallana Parker
        Adebayor
