PlayON Picks – Gameweek 4

After an international break packed with injury concerns for Fantasy managers, we edge towards Gameweek 4 by rolling out our Friday lunchtime regular once again. We scour the PlayON player price list ahead of tomorrow’s 10.45am deadline and, as usual, offer a couple of picks per position, with an essential weekend target and a budget alternative for your consideration.

This weekend PlayON have £2,000 in Guaranteed Pots on offer – £1,000 Guaranteed for the full gameweek, £500 Guaranteed for the Saturday daily game and £250 Guaranteed for each of the Sunday and Monday daily games.

Goalkeeper – Asmir Begovic
After an unlikely clean sheet at the Etihad, a home encounter against Leicester bodes well for his prospects of another shut-out. Available for just 7.6m, Begovic offers a cut-price route into a defence that conceded just 18 times in front of their own fans last term – the fourth most resilient home back-line of 2013/14. If you’re willing to entrust some of your budget to Louis van Gaal’s new look defence, then David de Gea comes in at 7.9m for a plum home encounter with QPR. While there may be question marks over United’s starters in defence, the Spaniard is guaranteed pitch time by comparison  having chalked up his first shut-out of the season last time around, he’ll be confident of another against an R’s side with just one goal to their name thus far.

Defender – Javier Manquillo
After stuttering in their first two fixtures, Liverpool impressive 3-0 win at Spurs in the last Gameweek suggests they could be worth the outlay at both ends of the pitch. The Reds will be hoping that home comforts allow them to continue the run, then, and with Glen Johnson injured and Jon Flanagan still finding his fitness after sustaining a knee injury, Manquillo looks set to retain a starting place against Aston Villa for the bargain price of 7.2m. League leaders Chelsea host Swansea on Saturday as Jose Mourinho’s side seek to maintain their 100% start to the season. Given their visitors have a similar record, though, snapping up a defender with plenty of attacking potential seems a sensible move, and with two goals and an assist thus far, Branislav Ivanovic, at 9.5m, cannot be overlooked for this one.

Midfielder – Wilfried Zaha
Climbing off the bench in the previous Gameweek, the on-loan midfielder wasted no time in making an impact. Zaha – who sets you back 8.9m  fired four attempts and netted a last-gasp equaliser as Palace snatched a draw at Newcastle, and with Marouane Chamakh ruled out, he looks poised for a start as Neil Warnock’s side play host to promoted Burnley. Elsewhere, Angel Di Maria looks a real bargain for United’s home clash against QPR. Priced at a mere 8.2m, the record signing welcomes the R’s in excellent form, having served up a goal and three assists in Argentina’s recent friendly win over Germany and looks in the mood to pick up the points in his first appearance at Old Trafford.

Forward – Mame Biram Diouf
There’s no doubt that Stoke’s summer signing took his time to settle in his new surrounds, but on the evidence of his showing last time out, is beginning to find his feet. Diouf’s superb solo effort against champions Man City hints at the form that that produced eight goals and four assists in 19 appearances for Bundesliga club Hamburg last term, and with a generous price tag of 9.8m in PlayON, is a strong cut-price contender at home to Leicester City. Following their convincing win at Tottenham, we turn our attention to the Liverpool attack. With a home match against Aston Villa up next, Mario Balotelli will be hoping to start his goal-scoring account for the Reds after coming close several times at White Hart Lane. With Daniel Sturridge sidelined due to a thigh injury, the 10.4m priced Italian should start up front and affords us a double-up option along with Raheem Sterling (10.5) in the Merseysiders’ midfield.

Head over to www.playon.co and get picking ahead of the 10.45am deadline tomorrow morning.

Which one would you bench from the following and why. Sterling is my other midfielder but I feel the Villa game will be pretty open and have no issues doubling up on Liverpool.

    Siggy - Ramsey - Costa - Tadic - Henderson

    Bench: Hutton - Chambers - ?

          Thanks.
Siggy is on the bench currently and I think he might stay there. I think they're all in with a chance of getting amongst the points to be fair.

Bottomed out...Looking at doing the following seeing as Jones is out and Bony looks doubtfull...

        Jones + Bony -> Ivan + Pelle (-4)

        Is it worth it?

From what I've read Bony may not even travel with the squad....Pelle would be in my side for a good few gw's hopefully too. Plus I may need my bench to cover Costa and Ramsey (bench is Debuchy, Hutton, Albrighton)

Hi all, so on my WC and looking at GK options, which do you think is better? (With no defenders from these teams in my team)

        A) Krul & Mannone
        B) Krul & McCarthy
        C) Mannone and McCarthy

        Thanks all.

Yeah I am tempted towards B and C atm, but it seems to me that McCarthy and Mannone rotate better, but I am really not sure whether Sunderland or Newcastle will get more clean sheets. Krul is generally better for saves though, and less likely to lose his place I suppose.

Touches / passes in the final third or in opposition half going forwards or backwards could be interesting.....

With Fernando being out I actually think there is more chance City playing two up top. Unless he decides to put Silva in the hole. They got dominated with two in the middle in the charity shield so if I was him I'd play Silva as a number ten but he doesn't seem to fancy that....

Debuchy owners.. bad fixtures coming up and Arsenal not really looking good at the back(though arguably they are now finally full strength at the back). got ok attacking stats but whenever i've watched him it does seem like all fart and no poo. holding on to him or swapping him out? i guess if you ride out the next 4 fixtures(with possible returns vs Villa) he is an ok option still?

did read earlier that Gibbs, Koscielny and Mertesacker all fit. arsenal defense could be a good option again. benching him this week for caulker mostly.. wondering if selling him instead is the better option

I joined this year. Most useful tool I think is the season ticker, just because you can go beyond the 6-week one that is available to everyone else. There is a compare tool which I have used once or twice, but I reckon that will become more useful further into the season.

Having said that, the extra tools you have as a member are all incredibly geeky, statistic analysing things. If you prefer choosing your team from actually WATCHING and ENJOYING football, then I don't really think it's that necessary.

I might change my mind throughout the season

It's a great site by the looks of it the write ups are brilliant but I was just wondering was it beneficial paying £15 like have people actually finished higher up every year ? Because lets face it thats what its all about everyone wants to get as many points as possible.

        Hi guys,

Here's the Liverpool team based on bib-theory.

Remember, this is just for fun and is based solely on the player wearing a green bib in yesterday's training session.

This is not based on my personal views or any ITK information. For example, Sterling was wearing an orange bib and I'd expect Balotelli to start.

        ------------- Mignolet
        Manquillo - Toure - Sakho - Moreno
        -------- Gerrard - Henderson
        ---- Markovic --------- Lallana
        ------------- Coutinho
        -------------- Lambert

Remember, it's just for fun! 😉

LVG "hes one of the best strikers in the world. He got the ball once in training and it was in the net."

            Sounds like hes starting.

Also his stats, since his injury hes score 3 goals in 6 games but only played 270mins football

        Already got -4

        Krul (foster)
Debuchy - Jones - dummett (wisdom - Bruce)
Hazard - Ramsey - Sterling - Siggy (El mah)
        Costa - Naismith - Sturridge

        Thoughts on more changes please.

        Was thinking:

        Sturridge --> Balotelli

So Fernando out this should increase Dzeko's chance of starting, no?

Last couple of issues before I decide on WC team

        Bego (McCarthy)

        Baines-Moreno-Clyne (Colo Moore)

        Sterling-Fab-Tadic-Siggy (Boyd)

        Costa-Kun-Welbeck

        Undecided:
        Bego or Forster?
        Colo or PVA.other 4.5?

Jovetic could be back next week, so there is some good news. As is Zaba, Lampard and Mangala being fit and able to play.

        Quick poll here:
        A) PVA & Pieters
        B) Manquillo & Wilson

Would appreciate some thoughts on this

        Best combination of players;

        A.Hazard, Powell, Moreno, and PVA

or B. Fabregas, JWP, Evans, and Gibbs

        Thanks.

          A, comfortably.

B - JWP's place is called into doubt as soon as Mane is available. Man Utds defence don't seem worthy of fresh investment. Gibbs is made of glass and Arsenal have shown they struggle to keep cleanies and have tough fixtures.

            Thank you,

Being on WC just presents so many options, I'll be happy when it's closed and I don't have the temptation anymore.

I was looking at Gibbs thinking first choice attacking full back in a top 4 team - what's not to like?!

The fact he gets injured all the time?

This is the concern, also he's no stranger to a booking.

As I say being on WC makes you think crazy things.
