Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 10 – Sunday

Sergio Aguero grabs the match-winner against United as City win a fourth straight Manchester derby. United’s worries at the back continue as injury and suspension hit Louis van Gaal’s side. Nacer Chadli grabs his fifth of the campaign and Harry Kane stakes a claim for a starting role as Spurs come from behind to get the better of Villa.

Aguero Wraps Up Win Against Rivals

Sergio Aguero took his tally to ten for the season with the winner against Man United in the Manchester derby. The Argentinian now has seven goals and eight bonus points from his last six appearances in a run of form that has seen him emerge as an ‘essential’ pick right now. Notably, the City striker’s goal yesterday came in a week that saw the likes of Diego Costa, Graziano Pelle and Saido Berahino all blank, allowing him to open up a five-point lead at the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) forward standings. Aguero still has ownership under 25%, though with City set to roll up to Loftus Road next weekend, that level of interest is surely set to increase over the coming week.

Derby Day Blues for United

The 1-0 loss to their local rivals was the first time in seven outings that United have failed to score, as Louis van Gaal’s start to life at Old Trafford continues to stutter. Angel Di Maria now has just one assist to show for his last three and has lost ownership in each of the last two Gameweeks, with the current of form of Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez proving too tempting for many. However, United have three excellent home fixtures in their next four (CPL, HUL, STO) and Di Maria will have the chance to rediscover the form that saw him collect three double-figure hauls between Gameweeks 4 and 7.

Defensive Concerns Build for Red Devils

Attack is certainly likely to be the best form of defence for Van Gaal’s outfit, with their problems at the back showing no sign of abating. Rafael was injured in training prior to yesterday’s encounter, whilst Marcus Rojo dislocated his shoulder during the derby and is looks certain to miss the Crystal Palace clash this coming weekend, according to his manager. With Chris Smalling also suspended for that match after a catastrophic red card at the Etihad, and the likes of Jonny Evans and Phil Jones struggling with injury, Van Gaal is likely to have to stick with the partnership of Michael Carrick and Patrick McNair at centre back next weekend – it’s now no clean sheets in the last six for United, and a makeshift backline are sure to have their work cut out in turning that defensive form around.

Chadli and Kane Stun Villa

An inspiring comeback in the last ten minutes from Mauricio Pochettino’s side saw them clinch a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, with Nacer Chadli netting his fifth goal of the season and substitute Harry Kane scoring his seventh in his last seven appearances late on. With Erik Lamela sacrificed to the bench as Pochettino opted for a front two of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, and Cristian Eriksen hooked off at the break, Chadli looks the one regular Spurs player worth owning right now, as his eight-point haul at Villa Park took him up to fourth in the FPL midfield rankings. Kane, meanwhile, is yet to start a league match, though his manager has hinted post-match that he deserves more minutes. Spurs have decent fixtures ahead (STO, hul, EVE, che, CPL) and the 4.8-priced Kane may well be afforded further opportunities to show his capabilities across that schedule.

Villa Losing Streak Continues

Problems are mounting for Villa right now, who are without a win since Gameweek 4 and will now have to cope with star striker Cristian Benteke, who is suspended for the next three after being dismissed for violent conduct. Andreas Weimann scored his third of the season against Spurs – and his side’s first goal in 547 minutes of football. The schedule ahead is decent enough for the Austrian (whm, SOU, bur, cpl, LEI), but with morale so low amongst the Villa ranks, he is still unlikely to rival Diafra Sakho or Berahino for our affections in the budget forwards bracket.

alexis v di maria lately shows how fast things can change in this game. last 3gw di maria 9 alexis 45. was looking at baines v ivanovic too. wildcarded in gw4 at which point ivanovic was sitting on 29 points and baines 3. the pressure to get ivanovic was almost overwhelming whilst baines was a nobody. over the next 7 weeks it has been baines 55 ivanovic 18. these are massive swings, and it's not like ivanovic or di maria are bad options at all.

yeah. can see di maria have a big up-turn next 4. the only reason i avoided him was playing position but that is currently not a factor any more. relieved his obscene luck ran out last 3 though

Season defining transfer for those who jumped on Sanchez after his first haul. I was too stubborn and pinned too much hope on Sterling recovering his mojo. Could have got Sanchez easily for a hit but thought it unwise to do so.

      Oh hindsight...

Don't think its season defining...I haven't had Sanchez for the last three GWs and I'm still in the top 10k. So much of the season left as well....

Yea use the term loosely abit. But am using the example of someone in my ML who was lagging behind everyone else. 2 GWs of Sanchez (c) and suddenly he's right up in the mix once more.

He still has Bojan too...uber casual so I feel he may have been a tad lucky!!

I feel the key is to stick with these big guns over a period of time. Wonder if those that do ADM to Sanchez will rue their decision.

I'd say the opposite actually. You can offload then bring back in for nice fixtures. Look at Baines, Sanchez, Tadic, Pelle.

Yeah. To be fair, ADM will now probably outscore Alexis by a similar amount over the next 4-5 GWs as the fixtures ease for ADM.

      Just sayin.

It's swings and roundabouts largely; I was kicking myself for not having Tadic and Aguero a few weeks ago, but as an Alexis owner since GW1, I stuck with him (I had Costa as well, so couldn't afford Aguero). Now it;s turned out to be a great decision. There's a fine line between stubbornness/rashness and foresight!

      1. Shifty
        • 10 Years

tremendous patience. Would have been really tempted to ditch Alexis by GW4. Perhaps you were also fortunate you had other issues to worry about that time? Not doubting your foresight definitely, must have been crazy tempting to ditch him.

When he was being rotated it was tempting, but he was returning and looking dangerous whenever he played - it felt like only a matter of time. I'm a huge Sanchez fan, and thought he'd be the top scoring midfielder when he signed, so I was prepared to wait a bit. It was testing my patience at one point though.

I think perhaps this season more than most, the form players are delivering when the fixture is kind. I'm finding it much more predictable to jump on form players at the right time.

It's when the likes of Suarez deliver week in, week out (and Costa to an extent this season) that taking an educated punt on a player is not rewarded. This season seems far more flexible in picking your squad and verying from the template.

Di Maria is not much of a goalscorer historically, as good as he is I am a bit surprised at the amount of hype he has as a FPL player especially playing for an average team with absolutely no defence.

I would rather have Sanchez all day long, thats not to say Di Maria is a bad pick, but for his price I would be expecting more than a trickle of assists and the odd goal now and again, no different to Silva.

Agree, this season has really been about knowing exactly when to jump on/off certain bandwagons.

      Ramsey///Di Maria
      Ivanovic///Baines
      Ulloa&Naismith////Sakho&Berahino
      Costa///Aguero
Di Maria///Sanchez ------> Although it's ideal to keep both atm. Sterling could replace ADM.

Hi guys, having to go offline till Saturday. Problems with our wifi on our fishing boat. Currently sitting in the top 100 so would love a little help before I go away:

Just wondering who should be on the bench out of this lot. It will perhaps sort itself out with injuries and such but what do you guys think at the moment?

Tadic, Fabregas, Sanchez, Downing, Di Maria

    Sakho, Aguero, Pelle

Everyone I consider seems crazy to be left on the bench. Tadic is perhaps a likley candidate but is at home to Leicster. Actually considering Fab giving to the notion that early kick offs on a Saturday are often a dull affair. Any thoughts?

Currently on Aguero captain aswell if anybody would like to change my mind

    Baines - Clyne - Chester
    Hazard - ADM - Sterling - Siggy
    Costa - Pelle - Welbeck

    Green - Boyd - Chambers - Jones

89 points, with PVA still to play, has taken me to 384 in the world! Hopefully I can increase that tonight (although on current form, PVA could well end up with a minus). He best not, as I have Wisdom and Naylor on the bench.

Yeah my thinking is mostly the price rises as well and how hard will it get him after. On the flipside, his next games are much harder swa, MUN, wba and he is unlikely to be hitting double digits in those.

        1. Doolittle
          • 11 Years

Double digits look unlikely, but the thing with Sanchez is that we all knew he was world class, and he isn't just popping up in games and converting one chance. I watched the match on Saturday and he could have had 4 or 5, he was electric. It won't be a flash in the pan and, as you say, if you wait you could struggle to afford him.

If you had to have one of Aguero and Costa

and two of Pelle, Sakho and Welbeck

based on current form and future fixtures who would you have

        Get Aguero

Aguero, Pelle, and probably Welbeck (though the price might edge Sakho ahead). Expensive taste 😉

    Sakho hopefully should be ok for Sat's game vs Villa (David Gold tweets);

    Ok some advice please chaps

    Krul
    Chambers, Terry, Clyne
    ADM, Sterling, Siggy, Fab
    Aguero, Sahko, Costa

    Hutton, Wisdom, Marney

Which would you go for as i have 2FT so will mean -4 hit

    A) Terry + Sterling + Siggy > Jags + Sanchez + 6.1m MID (Downing?)
    B) Terry + Sterling + Siggy > Baines + Sanchez + 4.5m MID
    C) Sterling + Siggy > Sanchez + Milner/5.3m MID (FOR FREE)

    Sigurdsson -----> Downing/Chadli for a hit?

    Yay or Nay?

Downing's really ahead of Siggy for goal threat, and is keeping up pace for assist potential + West Ham are in terrific attacking form and have an excellent run in the next few.

I would do it, even if it doesnt give you immediate returns, they ll outscore Siggy until January

    Which of these sounds better:

    Fabregas > Sanchez

    Fabregas > ADM

    1. Doolittle
      • 11 Years

      Sanchez.

    2. Bartowski

Fabregas is a season keeper so neither

      1. Doolittle

This season keeper thing is a bit of a myth - is Sanchez not also a season keeper?

        1. Bartowski
          • 13 Years
          9 years, 7 months ago

No, Fabregas is the only season keeper

    3. Cojiro
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 7 months ago

Neither, Fabregas is sooo consistent! But at the moment Sanchez is better than ADM; in 2 gws time could quite easily be ADM over Sanchez...

With Zarate coming back and Valencia in good form, can we see Sakho getting rested and/or rotated alot? A little worried about bringing him in now..

He scored 7 in his first 7 games. Yeah if I was big Sam I'd rest him.
