Captain Sensible – Gameweek 11

Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero is the runaway leader in this week’s Captain Poll, having earned 34% of the votes cast so far. The City striker is in imperious form as he rolls up to face a QPR defence that has conceded more goals (20) than any other outfit – having scored in four of his five away appearances to date, he could wreak havoc on a backline that has been breached at least twice in eight of the opening ten Gameweeks.

Southampton’s top scorer Graziano Pelle is also highly fancied ahead of a plum home clash against Leicester. The big Italian has delivered returns (13, 9, 15 and 5 points) in each of his previous four appearances at St Mary’s, and up against a side with a single clean sheet this season, seems poised to continue his ascent up the Fantasy standings.

Angel Di Maria is the top-rated midfielder, earning 13% of the votes as Man United prepare for the visit of Palace. The Argentine has been somewhat hit-and-miss at Old Trafford this term – racking up 14 and 13 points against QPR and Everton respectively but blanking against West Ham and Chelsea – whilst team-mate Wayne Rooney, who has scored in all three home appearances this term, has persuaded just 2% to hand him the captaincy. Like QPR, Palace have also conceded at least twice in all but two of the first 10 rounds of fixtures, with Neil Warnock’s installation proving detrimental to their defensive prospects.

Arsenal’s in-form Alexis Sanchez has just 9% of backers despite moving up front in recent weeks. The Chilean took his tally to 11 goals in his last 13 appearances with a midweek strike against Anderlecht and has racked up three consecutive double-figure hauls ahead of a trip to Swansea – Garry Monk’s side have conceded just three times in front of their own fans, though, and will be hoping to derail the Sanchez bandwagon this Saturday.

Diego Costa is regarded as the man most likely as Chelsea travel to Liverpool on Sunday. The Blues’ star striker has collected 5% of the votes so far, whilst Eden Hazard and Raheem Sterling sit around the 1% mark – a sign that few will be willing to roll the dice on the Anfield encounter.

West Ham pair Stewart Downing and Diafra Sakho have been largely overlooked for the visit of off-form Villa. Paul Lambert’s side have now conceded at least twice in each of the last six, and whilst Downing has managed just two assists in front of his own supporters this season, fit-again Sakho has scored in each of his three home starts against Liverpool, QPR and City and has averaged over eight points per appearance at Upton Park so far.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Manquillo, eriksen, siggy > downing, sanchez, dummett for a -4 hit?

Looks okay to me. I worry about Dummett's spot, he has plenty of competition. Santon, Raylor, Haidara. Is Saylor preferred over Williamson?

I think it's better to choose one or the other. Having both negatively affects the rest of your squad too much. And with Kun fit and in electric form, he's the one to go for.

I would consider getting rid of Begovic or Moreno. Or Welbeck to Sakho if you are comfortable having no Arsenal. With the money you save you could upgrade Fabregas to Sanchez.

You will want Sig back in a couple of weeks, so I wouldn't sell him.

I could really need some help here, guys. Manchester United is at home to Crystal Palace and Manchester City is away to QPR and I have noen from the Manchester teams. Can get AdM or Rooney for free or Aguero for -4. What would you choose?

    My team at the moment;

    Green - Krul
    Alderwereild - Wisdom - Duff - Cahill - Moore
    Sanchez - Tadic - Hazard - Siggy - Silva
    Welbeck - Costa - Berahino

So my team is pretty good. Three budget defenders player at home against weak opponents, and Cahill could also get a CS away to LFC. Got Sanchez who is on fire, Tadic at home to Leicester and up front I have Berahino at home to Newcastle. Siggy is the closest one to get dropped to the bench, but he could easily score some points at home to a leaky Arsenal and Hazard/Costa could do well against LFC.
So don't want to do too much, but I have two free transfers and really think I need one from either the red or the blue part of Manchester....!

So Silva needs to go, but who comes in? Only have 0.1 in the bank, so for AdM I need to sell someone else as well. Thinking either Cahill to Chambers or Welbeck to Sakho to get the funds. But could get Aguero in for a -4 if I sell Cahill, Silva and Welbeck....!

    Please help, guys....

AdM and Sakho for Silva and Welbeck?

        or

Aguero, Downing and a 4.3 defender for Welbeck, Silva and Cahill?

The problem with the last one is that I can't find a defender that cheap. I have Wisdom, Duff and Moore, and I'm not too keen on doubling up. Could go Saylor, but already have Krul....

Got 2 FTs. Thinking about Siggy and Rose to Chadli and a max 5.0 defender. Any suggestions on the defender?

Baines is one of those players who has fantastic natural fitness. Just sails through 2 games a week no problem to him....no problem at all.

Strategy for lead up to Xmas is troubling me. £3.2m in the bank and only Hazard, Sànchez and Aguero as untouchables in my front 7.

Pellé and Welbeck are conundrums as the former is so wasteful I can see a stretch of blanks coming and the latter has Giroud returning before Xmas. Throw in Big Sam warning about possible Sakho/Valencia rotation as they're used to a winter break, Bony likely to be given a break for Gomis and I'm wondering whether a strong big name 3-5-2 with a cheap striker rotation might be the way to go?

What did fat Sam say about Sakho/Valencia?

I'm starting to think that 352 with Aguero-Costa could be the way to go ince southamptons and arsenals fixtures turn
