The Community Round Up

A wind of change is in the air as the community battens down the hatches and braces itself for a dramatic shift in the fixture list. As we patiently sit through the third international break of the season, our community writers have indulged in a spot of crystal ball gazing, with a little help from their calculators and, surprisingly, Jimmy Bullard. We also catch up on the latest statistics in our members tables and some impressive league leaders in our community tournaments.

The Community Articles

Crystal ball gazing was taken to new number crunching levels by Footballoholic and Gillesdegoult this week. Firstly, Footballoholic presented this excellent look at the goal scoring potential of all Premier League sides over the next six weeks, based on the defensive form of their opponents, before Gillesdegoult then followed this research up by combining attacking form of all teams.

Heels over heads was also busy soothsaying, looking at the defensive form of Premier League sides over a number of seasons to assess whether Southampton can significantly add to their seven clean sheets so far.

Christina has been looking ahead to Christmas and provided us with this Dickensian look at some of the Premier League’s struggling sides chances of success over the festive period.

Finally, with a little bit of help from former Wigan and Hull legend Jimmy Bullard, John Terry’s Dog looked at the similarities of being a Fantasy Football manager and running a business.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article. We also offer £25 to the writer of the most popular article each month.

The Hottest Topics

An imminent shift in the fixture list, when Southampton’s kind run comes to a dramatic end and Chelsea and Liverpool face easier opposition, dominated discussion this week.

Ahead of Liverpool’s run over the next four Gameweeks (cpl, STO, lei, SUN) many are eagerly awaiting Daniel Sturridge’s return from injury. In our discussion on how his comeback will affect our teams, Doosra and myself took a good look into his recent statistics to assess just whether his reputation for selfishness in front of goal is myth or reality.

For many, though, Liverpool’s good fixtures mean little when their recent form is so dire. In our discussion on the form over fixtures debate Moin was among the fixture list fans, while Gary 32 pointed out that Spurs recent poor home record against weaker teams proves form can often win the day.

Turning to Southampton’s poor run of fixtures, that includes Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal in the next four, Dat Guy has been looking at the south coast side’s form against bigger sides. This provided a compelling argument for ditching Saints defenders, while in stark contrast Accounting on Chris believes that they could be worth hanging onto despite the tough upcoming opposition.

Dat Guy also looked at some emerging conflict of interests coming up in the fixture list, where popular defenders face well-owned attackers. To get on top of such issues the community is urged to make full use of our season ticker, which has been afforded an autumnal refresh to take recent form into account.

Chelsea’s fine upcoming run (WBA, sun, TOT, new, HUL, sto) has many Fantasy managers mulling over which Blues players to draft in. But Sinik wonders whether now may be a good time to cash in on Cesc Fabregas’s recent price rises and look elsewhere among their ranks. Eden Hazard has the potential to thrive but Eaglia remains unconvinced and believes his strong performances are still not being converted into solid Fantasy Football returns.

On numerous occasions, a change in system can be attributed as a key reason for some players’ failure to being in the points. However, in Giggs Boson’s tactics talk, he believes it’s far too simplistic to blame formations when players fail.

Among those to benefit from a team’s change in tactics is Leighton Baines, who, under manager Roberto Martinez, has been given considerable licence to attack down Everton’s left flank. In our latest round up of so-called ‘essential’ players Baines was a name mentioned time and again – Brian (not the messiah) is among his many fans and later in the week urged Baines owners to cling on to him for dear life. Another member of the Baines fan club is MJ6987, who placed the Everton defender on his list of the best four Fantasy assets.

Our biggest discussion this week was sparked by Bojan Is For Kinnear with the simple line “You know you’re a Fantasy Football addict when…”. Among the best replies was from TheHut who recounted the many times his question of ‘who got the assist’ is met with incredulity from fellow spectators.

Finally, a message from Bsloebadger also proved to be one of the most talked about hot topics this week. Concerned that people take too much heed in a person’s rank when receiving advice, he instead believes everyone’s advice is valid, whether highly or lowly ranked. The key criteria for giving and receiving advice should instead be politeness, he added.

The Members Tables

Manchester United is another team that have improved fixtures on the horizon. I’ve been taking a look at their attacking threat. Members are urged to sort this table by last two Gameweeks to see who has been the Red Devils’ most prolific shooters since their switch to a more defensive formation.

Sturridge’s imminent return prompted Doosra to carry out a temporary revamp of his Forward Foragers table, which takes a look at the strikers who excel at holding the ball and providing chances. This now focuses on last season’s statistics to give a better look at the Liverpool striker’s statistics.

Elsewhere, Guidinho has constructed a table to focus on full back potential, with a strong focus on crossing and creativity.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, 878 teams survived after 54 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 55.

In the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors league Tinkerman has opened up a 22 lead on second placed Mark. With a rank of 79th overall, Tinkerman will be tough to catch.

Tinkerman has to settle for second in the Long and Winding Road main league behind league leader King Nil Miss, who is 18th overall.

Rasping Drive, who is 43rd overall, continues to dominate many of our other community leagues, topping the FFS Old Farts Club, FFS Dead Zone and The Puffinboy Memorial Cup.

Yeah, I'm trying to get my business done now over the international break when there's more time in between fixtures to put moves together!

Did you see the question I posted in the chat room btw? What do you think about it?

yeah I can't see a big problem with it...if someone doesn't play next year then that's their loss...I imagine this is regarding the pending transaction 🙂

Yeah I've got two transfers that will get put through this weekend:

Shackell for Heaton - so I can rotate Heaton with Forster (SOU and BUR fixtures match up PERFECTLY)

Ramsey + Cabella for Coleman + J-Rod... had 5 mids so needed to move the assets to defense and attack to re-balance my team to avoid having to bench two good mids every week.

I'm working on a 3rd, but can't find a makeweight trade, so the pick swap would make it work I think.

Would you mind just commenting on the chatroom thing that you're fine with it, just so I can get the idea approved by people and HOH and get my transfer accepted soon?

thanks, much appreciated. Tbh I've asked a couple of guys what they think and no one has a problem with it, but i think it would be best if people just posted that in reply so I can go ahead with it. Obviously not planning to take the piss by trading Gerrard for next years 1st round pick or anything that skews the league massively, but just a 4th for 3rd round pick swap for instance. 🙂

Fair point. I just think theres better ways to get Hazard into his team though than to get rid of the 2nd highest scoring defender. And fwiw I think Oscar is a better-value pick than Hazard, but as you say thats just my opinion 🙂

I happen to agree with you regarding Oscar. Costa seems to have seriously dented Hazards fpl output. Maybe that will change but I don't understand the rush to get him when his output has been bettered by cheaper options.

Really hoping a couple players come back from injuries and start to score to create some differentiation among the teams. Who do you think will come back and perform well? My votes are Walcott and Mirallas.

Sturridge - but whether he is worth it is another issue

    2. rickardinho

Sturridge. Not necessarily that he will score loads, but his presence and pace beyond should be a catalyst to open up space for Balotelli, finally giving Coutinho someone to pass, and taking a bit of the load off Sterling.

Mirallas is never consistent enough. Walcott will probably score big for a couple of weeks, have loads of managers draft him in and then get an injury, which on paper looks like a one week problem but ends up being a 6 week on going niggle. I for one won't touch Walcott, once bitten, twice shy.

I've said before that I'll only bring him in when he's played at least 2-3 consecutive 90 minute games. Whether that will happen before January is still to be seen.

Also, I think Ramsey and Cazorla will benefit from Giroud coming back. They really miss having someone on the edge of the box to interplay with, as Welbeck is more of a "turn-and-run" kind of forward

Very much so . Giroud gets a lot of stick but his team play holding up for forwards is very good

Walcott , Ramsey , Cazorla etc are brought into play . Arsenal mids all score well in the couple of Giroud years

        1. rickardinho

That said, I don't think Ramsey will be quite as prolific as last season, as there is less onus on him getting in the box now with Sanchez, Walcott, and Welbeck ahead. Wenger's recent quotes about "doing whats best for the team" is kind of ominous too, but I guess we just wait and see!

De Gea's injury will be an interesting one. Could be okay immediately if no ligament damage, or could be long term if he's done a grade 2/3 tear in the process (say 3-4 weeks)

I enjoy it too, last night's game was pretty exciting... If only Henrique was nailed on 😉

Yeah I do. I hate how the A-league continues during the international break as a Nix fan since we normally lose quite a few players. McGlinchey will be a big loss this week 🙁

I wouldn't mind a bit of him if that was the case. Young 6-pointer didn't go a miss, either.

I fully expect Adelaide to trounce you, today. Sorry to say, but they're so good. Is Burns missing or available?

Burns is available and Moss didn't get called up by NZ either which is good for us. We don't have McGlinchey, Brockie, Boyd and Boxall due to international duty, so we'll probably be starting Brindell-South at LB... He's a very poor player from what I've seen of him, so expect Adelaide's RW to have a field day.

                    Doyle will surely start, no?

Brilliant - Carrusca will drift wide and ping balls through for Mabil. (If he isn't on international duty) - otherwise, Ferreira.

Well Doyle pulled out of the NZ squad due to injury so I'm not sure if he's fit enough to start.

I'm hoping Ridenton gets some game time for us tonight, I actually played against him last year... he's a very good little attacking midfielder.

Wasn't aware of his injury, tbh.

Do you play at a good level then, Innsie? If Wellington are to score tonight, who is the most likely candidate? Has to be Burns, yes?

What's the go with McGlinchey, by the way? Injured?

I play for the U19s at club level, we're in the top league in Auckland (it's called 'Metro' and is above Division 1, Division 2... etc).

Nah McGlinchey played last night for the All Whites, he's not injured.

Burns would be our most likely candidate yeah, or Krishna who should start since we're missing McG and Brockie.

Pearson just tinkers everything and has gone with a diamond in midfield, leaving no room for him. I fully expect that to change this week, however.

I would go for professor x style telepathic powers to convince players that the goals are in different positions from where they are forcing shots off target . Or make them strike the ball less cleanly. Very subtle even in front of a packed stadium

When the YC threshold is raised to 10YC on Jan 1, that still means players on say, 6 YC are only 4 away from their next ban?

E.g. the YCs are not completely wiped, just the threshold raised?

Hodgson suggested it's a problem he may have been carrying for a while. asn't stopped him racking up the points recently so no need to panic imo

I wasn't able to watch the game, but I was absolutely delighted when I woke up this morning and saw that we beat Rep. of Ireland last night... and what a well worked goal...

Absolutely brilliant result for us... this group is wide open...

Basterds 😆 Well done mate. Group is wide open. Poland just beat Gerogia 4-0 in Georgia though. I'd be well worried about them

Yeah, I am worried about Poland most of all, since I expect Germany to step it up, but Poland taking 3 pts from them is a big advantage for them...

Also concerned that you guys have 4 home games out of 5 to come and Gibraltar away which is 3pts anyway...

Nicely taken goal though they were lucky with the nutmeg

Would be very funny if somehow Germany didn't make it.

If Baines is injured, will you guys use those funds to have a strike force of Sturridge, Aguero and Costa? I think Sterling is the best value for points for Liverpool when he's back.

I will hold for now. Likely upgrade Chadli for Sterling instead

I expect Sterling to look good again when Sturridge is back.

Have you been following the Four Nations? Final tonight. 😀

Haven't managed to catch all of the games but yeah I love my rugby league. Hopefully us Kiwis can beat your lot again...

I should probably watch the final instead of an A-league match eh? 😉

I'm originally English, mate. So you've already done that. 😆

I'm torn on whether to watch the final or a Carrusca hattie. 😉

Ahh true I forgot that 😆

The Adelaide game will finish just a few minutes after the start of the final so you can watch Carrusca's r̶e̶d̶ ̶c̶a̶r̶d̶ hattie and then flick over. I'll be tempted to watch Sydney v Victory instead though...

            Feck you 😆 😉

As soon as the Victory game starts, I'll switch my focus to that. I wish the final was tomorrow, instead. I mean, who cares about Melbourne City - CCM, anyway?

              😆

Yeah good point actually, the Victory game will be 10x better than the Mariners one!

                I'll still watch it, though.

You going to watch Glory - Wanderers, later? It'll be a late starter for you, I think. Not that bad of an international break.
