Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 12

As always on a Monday afternoon, we scour the injury rooms up and down the country and assess those players who picked up problems over Saturday and Sunday’s matches. It’s fair to say the physios have had a busy weekend.

Arsenal
Wojciech Szczesny (rib) and Jack Wilshere (ankle) were both forced off in Saturday evening’s home loss to United. After the match, Arsene Wenger rolled out an update on the pair’s progress:

“Wojciech is not bad. Jack I don’t know how bad it is because he tried to stay on and couldn’t. It could be an ankle problem, I don’t know how bad it is.”

Burnley
The Clarets are set to assess the fitness of centre-half Michael Duff, who was forced off with just 15 minutes remaining of Saturday’s vital win at Stoke due to injury.

Crystal Palace
Adrian Mariappa missed yesterday’s clash with Liverpool after tweaking a knee in training on Saturday, the Palace website have revealed. Neil Warnock has further worries in defence after Damien Delaney was withdrawn during the first period of Sunday’s encounter due to injury.

Everton
Aiden McGeady missed the Toffees’ weekend win over West Ham due to illness but is expected to return in a couple of days. Roberto Martinez also confirmed Steven Naismith was forced off with a hamstring injury and is likely to miss the midweek clash with Stuttgart:

“He looks as though he has a soft-tissue problem, due to the nature of the mechanics of opening the leg so much in such a late moment of the game when muscles can be fatigued. We’ll assess him. He’ll probably miss Thursday but I don’t expect him to be out too long.”

Hull
Midfielder Mo Diame missed yesterday’s loss to Spurs after sustaining a knee injury in training and is set for scans, Steve Bruce has confirmed.

Liverpool
Jordan Henderson recovered from a hamstring complaint sustained on international duties but was ruled out of yesterday’s clash at Palace due to illness, the club’s official website confirmed.

Manchester City
Sergio Aguero and Stevan Jovetic both missed training for City today but Manuel Pellegrini has eased any concerns over the Argentine’s fitness by confirming the pair have “no problem” ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League showdown with Bayern.

Manchester United
Luke Shaw was subbed off during the first-half of United’s win at Arsenal with an ankle injury. Worryingly for Louis van Gaal, the defender was pictured leaving the Emirates on crutches and wearing a protective boot.

Young’s replacement Ashley Young was also withdrawn late in the match and the Red Devils boss discussed the pair’s withdrawals:

“Shaw has come back from internationals not fit enough so we made him fit, but then he gets injured again. Then I have to give Young a game but Young is not fit enough to play 90 minutes.”

Newcastle
Ryan Taylor was forced off just 34 minutes into his first league start since March 2012 this weekend. After sustaining two cruciate ligament injuries in the previous two years, there were initial fears that the Magpies man had suffered a setback but scans have since allayed any worries. Taylor took to twitter to explain his withdrawal was a precautionary measure, with reports suggesting he could be in line to return for the upcoming clash with West Ham.

“Just to let you know I have no major problem and I had to come off just to be on the safe side. I was just gutted to come off, that’s why I got so emotional as I’ve worked so hard to get back. Thanks again.”

QPR
Sandro was withdrawn on the hour mark in the weekend defeat at Newcastle due to a knee injury, Harry Redknapp has confirmed. The R’s boss also rolled out an update on Chilean duo Eduardo Vargas and Mauricio Isla, who were both unavailable for the 1-0 loss:

“We missed Vargas today. His wife had gone into labour so he wasn’t available and then Isla arrived late back on Thursday night. He looked absolutely out on his feet on Friday morning having played two games this week in South America so there was no way he could play.”

Stoke
Victor Moses was replaced just 10 minutes into the second-half of the Potters’ home loss to Burnley after sustaining an injury, according to match reports.

Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino was forced into making a number of changes to his starting line-up for yesterday’s win at Hull. Top scorer Nacer Chadli has undergone scans on a knee problem, whilst Etienne Capoue, Younes Kaboul, Andros Townsend and Danny Rose also failed to feature due to injury, the club’s official website confirmed. Roberto Soldado was replaced on 79 minutes after picking up a knock, according to match reports.

West Ham
Alex Song and Enner Valencia both missed the Hammers’ trip to Everton after picking up injuries in training, whilst Cheick Kouyate suffered a knock whilst on international duty with Senegal. The trio joined Diafra Sakho and Stewart Downing on the sidelines in the 2-1 loss and after the match, Sam Allardyce would only say:

“We hope they are not too long or too serious. It’s the worst international break I’ve had in my time at West Ham United.”

Hammers owner David Gold afforded us reasons for optimism earlier today, after announcing the quintet could be in with a chance of facing Newcastle this weekend.

Allardyce will also be monitoring the fitness of Mark Noble, after the midfielder limped off early in the second-half, to be replaced by Matt Jarvis.

Is anyone else thinking about taking sanchez out?

good fixtures but poor form and with Giroud back he wont get into the same areas as the last few weeks.. Maybe he'll get more assists tho.

loosing him means i could up Pelle to Costa for example..

True but Arsenal form doesn't matter when he keeps on giving those point hauls.

No way. He was a constant threat against United, really should have scored at least a couple.

West Brom won't be so lucky...

Planned to get him but decided against taking hit for him last week.

Doesn't make up for all the points I've missed from him, though.

However, the OP makes a valid point and Giroud and Walcott surely will eat into his points now.

I wonder whether Di Maria might be a capable differential though.

That link to the Moses injury has no mention of a Moses injury. It just says, "...brought on Marko Arnautovic and Peter Crouch for Moses and Mame Biram Diouf as they pushed for an equaliser."

Know it's a small club of us Moses owners, but anybody have any info on his injury.

Alright gents, a bit of help would be appreciated here 🙂

    Fabianski
    Baines/Ivanovic/Clyne

    A) Pelle to Bony
    B) Moore to Yun
    C) Pelle to Kane, Tadic to Hazard (-4)
    D) Save FT

what should be the strategy to get big green arrows?

To play safe and own most of the template players in top teams and give captains armband to the safe choice

    or to

get some players with low ownership in top teams and giving captains armband to not so safe players who may give big hauls (like I gave it to hazard this time when I had costa, aguero, sanchez and di maria)

Second, but that is if you want a lot of risk. A lot of times it is not worth it

You could try it with rooney, erkisen, austin, bony, hazard + a defence of man city/chelsea. That would get many green arrows and quite solid if those players are consistent

The way to stay with the top is to play safe n not to make silky punts. 1 successful punt comes with many fail punts.

      Heaton (Mannone)
      Chambers Clyne Yun (Duff, Wisdom)
      ADM Hazard Siggy Chadli (Boyd)
      Aguero Costa Welbeck

      2FT and £1.8 ITB

      Which is better:
      A) Baines & Austin.
      B) Austin & Sanchez.
      C) Azpilicueta & save the other FT
      D) Other.

I think you're being a bit stubborn on Lukaku, and here's why:

          - Forster for Begovic could be the perfect upgrade for you, given that you've scored very little with Begovic, in contrast to Forster who's in the top 10 for points.
          - You have Lambert and Benteke which makes one of your strikers expendable.
          - You're 20th in the league, and Lukaku on his own isn't going to get you out. Gerrard is the 2nd highest midfield goalscorer in this calendar year.

If you think it's such a good deal for me you wouldn't want to make it 🙂

I care about Gerrard's future returns, not his returns from last season.

That's not true. I don't make trades only to help myself, I look at it from both perspectives, and I think this could help both of us.

You're not getting anything out of GK or defense really, and I've got 2 good GK's and several strong defs/mids who can help you. In contrast I'd really like a forward, and you've got 2-3 in that position, which makes it mutually helpful to make a deal. That's how I see it anyways.

As for Gerrard, he had 5 shots on goal yesterday, 3 from open play, which are both more than any other player on the pitch. He's creating chances from set pieces too, and will always get penalties (in fact already has two this season in all comps). I just feel like I've got one midfielder too many, and he's the one thats easiest to trade for a forward as he has the highest value.

@TFF, what would you do with this team?

    Krul (Begovic)
    Baines Naylor Chambers (Clyne Wisdom)
    Sanchez Siggy Oscar Tadic (Downing)
    Pelle Aguero Austin

0FT 2.1itb... I'm 0.3 short of Tadic>Hazard(-4) unfortunately, but have a few options to finance it (Chambers>Yun, Baines>Coleman, Bego>4.5, Pelle>Ings...). I really like Hazard's recent stats and need to get another Chelsea attacker I think, and he's probably better value right now than Costa due to penalties.

I agree. I've been looking to bring in Hazard over Costa myself. The only problem here is that a hit is involved (in my case it is too!)

Why don't you look at the same Pelle to Kane, Tadic to Hazard transfer I am looking at? Alternatively you can downgrade Bego to a cheap 4.5 goalkeeper but I wouldn't prefer anyone other than Adrian or Fabianski at the moment, so I won't personally recommend that move

      1. rickardinho
        • 9 Years

One of my first rules is to stick to players who are nailed-on. Kane is great value but he also plays EVE che in his next two games, with EL mixed in. Hardly the recipe for success. I'd rather go for Ings at 5.7 on penalties and playing Villa next...

Btw, if I get Hazard it would be for a -8 as I already did Sterling>Siggy. Needed to do it before Sterling's drop, and I wanted to get Siggy.

You might be right, but he is a player on form and Pochettino would be incredibly stupid to drop him.

Forget making any transfer this week then. 😀
Get rid of Downing next week, if he is ruled out. 🙂

Downing is my 8th forward right now, and i was going to bench him vs NEW anyways so I'm not bothered about that. He'll come good again and is phenomenal value the way he's playing.

-8 could be a small price to pay though... fancy Hazard to "explode" if his recent stats are any indication

Also Rick, do you think I should/can make any other move than the ones I mentioned with my team here?

              Fabianski
              Baines/Ivanovic/Clyne

              Pelle/Austin/Kun

              Foster/Boyd/Hutton/Moore

              A) Pelle to Bony
