Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 16 – Monday

Steven Naismith grabs a goal and assist as Everton ease past travel-sick QPR. Ross Barkley and Kevin Mirallas also notch for the Merseysiders before the latter is forced off through injury, whilst Bobby Zamora stabs home a consolation effort to deny the Toffees a clean sheet once again.

Barkley Opens his Account

Handed a spot in the double-pivot due to Gareth Barry’s suspension, Ross Barkley still managed to notch his first goal of the season with an excellent long-range strike for the Toffees. With Barry back for the weekend trip to Southampton, Barkley owners will be hoping for a move back to a more advanced role once again and, at a price of just 6.8 in the Fantasy Premier League game, the youngster – who has started six of the last seven – may yet find himself a place in our Fantasy plans, with showdowns against Stoke, Newcastle and Hull following on from the St Mary’s clash.

Mirallas Concern for Toffees

Elsewhere in the Toffees’ midfield, Kevin Mirallas took his tally to two goals and an assist in the last four with a deflected free-kick against the R’s. Handed a fifth successive start since returning from injury, the Belgian is starting to find his form once again but, after being stretchered off towards the end of the match, is set for ankle scans this morning, with question marks now hanging over his availability as the Gameweeks come thick and fast.

Naismith Ends Goal Drought

The Scot returned to Everton’s starting XI for the first time since Gameweek 12 after recovering from a hamstring injury. Naismith served up a goal, assist and maximum bonus, outscoring fellow forward Romelu Lukaku by 12 points to five to serve a reminder of his potential. At a price of just 4.8, he may well benefit if Mirallas is, indeed, injured, though having previously scored just once in nine appearances, the Scot needs to up his consistency to become a viable option.

Zamora Compounds Baines’ Misery

With top scorer Charlie Austin sitting out a one-match suspension, little was expected from a side that had previously netted just two goals away from home to date. Substitute Bobby Zamora replicated Barkley’s feat by also scoring his first goal of the campaign to further frustrate owners of Everton defenders, who have now gone six matches without a clean sheet. With just one set of attacking returns in his last six appearances, Leighton Baines is struggling to justify his lofty price tag and his owners were left with a single point last night after he collected a yellow card. A possible injury to Mirallas could also benefit the left-back, though, after the Belgian’s return has seen his share of dead-ball duties diminish in recent weeks.

R’s Away Day Woes Continue

If Harry Redknapp’s side are to survive, it’s clear that their displays at Loftus Road will be pivotal. Last night’s result means QPR have lost all eight road trips and conceded at least twice on every occasion, whereas in front of their own fans, they’ve dropped just two points in the last four. Encouragingly for Redknapp, up next is a run of three home fixtures in the next four (WBA, CPL, SWA) which certainly hand his side a fighting chance – with Austin averaging 6.5 points per Loftus Road appearance and Leroy Fer notching in each of his last two at home, the R’s still have reason for optimism despite last night’s showing.

Having earned two clean sheets in the last four at home, Redknapp will be keen to have Steven Caulker back for the weekend. The R’s boss later confirmed that Caulker missed out with a head injury sustained at Burnley, despite the fact that it was previously reported that he had suffered a head injury in a post-match incident.

Laugh out very very loud at Rooney talking about a title push. Basically DDG is papering over the hugest cracks I have ever seen.

its unreal isnt it? youd swear this 6 wins in a row was some Real Madrid steam rollerring of the opposition with blistering football. If Arsenal , Saints and Liverpool had players that could finish from 3 yards it would all be very different

As a United fan I tend to agree, though fixtures look nice and half of defense and key players like Di Maria, Falcao, Shaw, Blind injured. We are still to see a even barely fit United side. The luck has been there for the past games, but the potential to improve is bigger by far than for any other team in the league. If the gap would be 6-5 points by christmas it would not be that impossible.

Not a chance, the only one of those players you listed I agree with ADM. Falcao is nevr going to be anywhere near fit enough, Shaw likes pies and Blind ia average.

Blind is definitely above average. Normally you'd expect players to take time to settle into a new team and league but he seemed to be way ahead of normal progress before he got injured. He was doing really well

I wouldn't write them off, if a striker of RVPs calibre gets in the groove, and he looks that way to me, then they have a chance. Not being in Europe is a big plus.

At least United will finish above Arsenal on the table. Once United get rid of the injuries in defence and the team settles a bit more, there could be a title challenge, although I doubt it. Second or third looks likely, as Chelsea is the best team in the league by some distance currently

Loads, in terms of formation, the forced switch of Di Maria to Mata especially. Evans and Jones will also big a plus. Football is far more complex than you are suggesting.

Yes and theres Fellaini's inability to pass to another red shirt within 5 yards, Rojo's comical defending, watching that Man Utd Soton game the other week I thought I had switched over to Sunday Morning park football, even Neville said it was the most laughable thing he had seen in a very very long time.

I have seen Fellaini have a number of very decent performances, go through City and Chelsea over the same 6 match period and you will find plenty of isolated negatives also.

ddg is our player , we would happily take all the 3 points thanks to him and you keep moaning here..there's nothing like we are lucky when he managed all the saves , just like when Matic or Terry managed all the crucial tackles..going for title doesn't mean we are likely to get , just a sign of try to aim higher and keep going..and regarding the poor play doesn't win you anything talk, I always thought SAF squad never really looked good after cr7 and tevez departure , didn't play well for certain matches too but still winning because he keep edging them and grind out result despite poor plays..

Considering we've had a spate of injuries that would cripple any squad, we've f
done fantastically well to be where we are
Some luck has helped, as it can, but the fact that we don't need 10 chances in a match to win the game only 2-3 is testament to the quality of our strikers

With a settled back 4/5 we can expect improved, more controlled, performances

Maybe not, but the fact is that Utd's best defensive line up has barely played a game together this season. If and when it happens they will surely tighten up and improve upon their performances so far. Given that they're within touching distance of City and Chelsea and their lack of European football, it's not totally out of the question. Unlikely, yes but by no means laughably impossible.

Liverpool were incredibly lucky in their opening 5/6 games last season, picking up a way more points than they deserved. They then improved with Suarez's return and deserved their great form. Quite possible same will happen with United

Lets face it, Man United ARE title contenders. With no European football they can do what Liverpool did last year and focus on the league. They have been playing poorly with a squad full of injuries and yet they are grinding out results, that is a hallmark of a winning team.

You can see that the players are understanding LVG's philosophy and are growing in confidence, they will only continue to get better as the season goes on and I'm sure they will bring in more signings in Jan.

I think you're just a very bitter Arsenal who can't handle that while United are growing and going strong for the league you will be struggling to finish as well as they did last season.

leave them..it hurts me when we are now quite settled/content for being 3rd , while we used to be ashamed when we were 2nd before Moyes era..the fact that arsenal fans could still talk loud publicly when they are trying to settle for 4th every season is unbelievable..it's ok , we are going the right direction and have to admit the league is getting tougher nowadays..

you don't get the point , and trying to play with words..when you are going for title , you try to win all the matches , instead of trying to be hard to beat like moyes..this will only be good for a team , no downside..as simple as that..are you trying to say oh now we try to win all the matches and that will only make us worse ?

    A) Costa > Rooney for a FT
    B) Costa > Rvp & Baines > Demichelis for a 4pt hit ( Already have Zabaleta )
    C) Keep Costa & Save FT

Whatever Martinez is doing at Everton it ain't working. Saw enough last night v worst away team:

Baines and Coleman look shadows of themselves. Howard likewise.

There is so much dangerous passing around at the back that goals will be conceeded sooner or later.

    Lukaku looks lost and isolated.

Mirallas and Barkley run up a lot of cul de sacs and don't seem to see the pass that is on.

With Baines and Jags in my defence I think I know where my FT is happening this week...

Yep - 3 deflected goals and QPR had plenty of chances.

Its not a dig at Everton - I finally saw what some of their own fans had been saying on the radio phone ins in the 90 mins not MOTD highlights

I know it's not a dig mate but I'm just saying, how can it not be working when they totally dominated the game in 2nd gear and won 3-1? I've heard lots of Evertonians moan about it and I regard them as generally clueless. There is one main reason for Everton's downturn this season and that is the knock on effect of the Europa league. If I remember correctly the stat is approximately 90% of English clubs that are in that competition and weren't in Europe the previous year, have a worse season the following year. That's no coincidence.

Yeah Europa is a killer - but this week they made 10 changes and were fresh.

I just thought they were superb all over the park last year - I think the Barry/McCarthy injuries are the ones that are making them look a bit dodgy.

            1. A.T

              9 years, 6 months ago

I have to disagree Von Ryan. They're not fresh because they missed one game. The players coming back from injury or who haven't played much looked fresh. Naismith, Barkley, Besic and Mirallas. The rest look tired to me. You're right though, McCarthy being out though is a massive factor. If Besic can carry on from last nights performance and they can get McCarthy back they could a very good month ahead I think.

I think Rooney is a safer bet to get 5-9 points, Yaya more likely to hit double figures because one goal is probably enough. Plus, last year's hattrick has me hoping 😛

It's a popular transfer I'm sure, but then your bench must be ready for a very possible Clichy-rest. Also think both Costa can outscore RVP and Baines can outscore Clichy this week, Aston Villa away isn't an easy fixture, while Stokes defense is useless

good points, just not a fan of Costa seems he needs to score more than 1 goal to ever get any bps and Baines and Everton defence in general don't seem as good at present. Would have Naylor/Yun this week as Clichy cover

This is my main concern, any other defenders up to 5.7 worth a look?

    Panti
    Terry, Clyne, Naylor
    Sanchez, Hazard, Eriksen, Siggy
    RVP (c), Bony, Austin (vc)

Elliot, Boyd, Kelly, Hutton. 1FT 1.2itb

    a) Siggy > Downing
    b) Clyne > Demi/Mangala
    c) save FT

Save imo if ur other def is decent. Its not a pressing transfer to make so better to have 2ft in hand

And I'm not talking about UFPL, as I don't/can't play it.

Guess it's a glitch? But are the figures correct? Or are they UFPL, as I suspect?

There are only 8000 active loans in UFPL. So that should tell you about enough

Baines' form seems to have divebombed. Averaging just over 1pt in last five.

I already have chelsea and city cover.. what to do? Don't fancy naylor...
