Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 22 – Monday

Kevin Mirallas’ missed spot-kick proves disastrous for Everton and Leighton Baines owners alike as the Toffees stutter to a goalless draw with West Brom. The Baggies earn a second straight shut-out as Tony Pulis’ installation brings their defence onto our Wildcard radars.

Mixed Fortunes for Baines Owners

The major talking point from last night’s match was Kevin Mirallas’ decision to take – and subsequently miss – the Toffees’ first-half spot-kick as Roberto Martinez’ men failed to score for the fifth time in eight matches. The Belgian’s domination of set-pieces has already dented Leighton Baines’ prospects in recent weeks and the left-back suffered again after Mirallas pulled rank before striking the outside of the post.

After the match, Roberto Martinez confirmed that Baines remains the Toffees number one spot-kick taker but played down reports that Mirallas was withdrawn at half-time as a result of his penalty decision:

“He [Mirallas] wasn’t 100%, he was feeling his hamstring. He wasn’t moving freely. We had dynamic players in the second-half full of energy, and that was the reason for the substitution. Our penalty taker is Leighton Baines, but Kevin always takes penalties well and he felt confident, he wanted to take it. Leighton was quite happy to allow him to do that and both have the quality to score. If he hit the back of the net then nothing would’ve happened, but both players have enough character to convert the penalty at that moment. For me Leighton is the No.1 taker. At that point I would’ve been happy to allow Leighton and Kevin to discuss that. The issue is we haven’t scored and it becomes a talking point.”

Last night’s goalless draw did, at least, bring the Toffees a first clean sheet in 12 attempts. After a poor run of form, Baines has now delivered returns in three of the last four Gameweeks and sits just one point off fourth spot in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) defender standings, though with in-form Palace, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal in the next five, he may have to up his attacking output to stay in contention.

Another Clean Sheet for Pulis

The Baggies’ new manager continues to weave his magic on their defensive assets after steering his side to a second successive shut-out since taking the helm. Once again, Pulis selected the 3.9-priced Chris Baird at left-back ahead of Sebastien Pocognoli and the former Fulham man looks poised to nail down a regular role ahead of clashes with Burnley, Swansea, Sunderland and Villa in the next six. Ben Foster’s save point potential helped the stopper to a seven-point return at Goodison, and at 4.6, could be set for increased investment as Fantasy managers line up to take advantage of the “Pulis effect”.

Berahino Back on the Flank

After netting five times in his first two appearances under Pulis, the youngster was drafted in by 24,000 FPL managers ahead of the Goodison clash. Hopes were high that Berahino was set to step up his claim for a place in our three-man frontlines but his manager’s tactical tinkering may force a rethink – Pulis switched from a 4-4-2 to 4-5-1 for last night’s encounter and opted for the muscular Victor Anichebe up front, with Berahino fielded on the left. It remains to be seen whether the Baggies boss will opt for a solitary striker for road trips only, though last night’s teamsheet certainly suggests the young striker’s versatility could go against him when Pulis is looking to tighten up.

Who to get instead of Cameron?

    a) Naughton with his move to swansea.
    b) Baird
    c) keep with Cameron.

Defence currently is PVA, Terry, Bertrand, Wisdom

Late Kane owners, a question for you!

I got him late (last week on WC). I've missed all his hauls and have only 0.1 profit tied up in him.

His next 3 are Vs WBA (away), Arsenal (home), Liverpool (away). Arguably the three most improved defences right there.

Amazingly, he's in 92% of top 10k teams. So that's a nice differential if he goes 2,2,2 in those upcoming matches. I know there is the opposite argument to this point but let's not forget he's no Costa 😉

Bojan looks so tempting. (QPR, new, MCI).

Spurs are much more attacking and can score more goals though. Better side to create more chances.

I don't trust Bojan/Stoke at all. Saving my FT this week, and might look to free up funds and get Giroud next week (though that could end up being for Austin instead of Kane).

Me neither. Gayle also has 3 nice fixtures and has found a bit of confidence.
I don't like doing a transfer straight after a WC but having Kane in my team feels soooo boring.

I posted this earlier this week. Add WHU and a blank to Spurs' fixtures and they're extremely poor. I am tempted by Bojan, but having Moses is sort of putting me off a little bit.

Waste of a transfer and you can't be sure if Falcao will even start next game. Getting rid and then getting the same player back again is wasting 2 FTs to get back to where you were. Not for me

    2. Doolittle
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 4 months ago

I hate doing transfers that I will reverse the week after. 2 FTs gone right there, and pre-planned transfers rarely go to plan in this game. Injuries could crop up, and you'll be stuck with Falcao and no Aguero, or have to take a hit, negating the potential points of Falcao this week.

Plus, ditching Aguero is bold, regardless of opposition, and you'll have to get him back at an inflated price.

    What about this?

    Panti 4.0
    Bertrand Kosc Terry Was Baird

Pulis said WBA have enquired about 3 or 4 players so I think Baird won't be nailed by the end of the window.

Hazard is important right now and also a Chelsea defender. Get rid of Caz/Silva and keep Terry

Then I'd say get rid of either Bert or Kos. You have 3 premium defenders who'll play almost every week so what will the other 2 do?

There is cash to be made from that defence which can be put in to your midfield

So cheap though and potential to rise, as long as you have a decent bench, he wont make too many cameos so it's worth the risk to me. Those that can afford to splash out a bit will just get kosc for 100% security. Both good picks

I will have Hutton and probably Wisdom as back-up. In an ideal world I could get Kos and Bellerin but I have Sanchez and think Giroud is worth a look up top so only room for 1. Would you take Kos if you could afford it?

Makes sense. I guess if you're going Costa, Aguero, +1 then someome like Bellerin has massive appeal. I'm going Aguero, Giroud and one of Gayle/Bojan/Kane so I can afford the extra

Plus I get my defensive picks in rotation wrong so often that I like the idea of just getting 3 to play every week and forget about it.

This is my worry, but he's only 4,4, may people consider worth the risk. If I can I will get Kos. With both Sunderland keepers, JT, Kos and Lescott every week i can pretty much relax at line-ups time when it comes to defence

This is the reason. £4.4m for an Arsenal defender with good fixtures is worth the risk. Easy transfer to a WBA/Stoke/Sunderland defender if it doesn't work out

Getting Kos means you'll be missing out on a Saints defender unless you're going with 3 big defenders at the back.

But Kos is definitely a much better option if you can afford to get him. If Bellerin nails down that spot he'll be gold

Went for punty Elia here, hoping he keeps on scoring while people assess whether to take him or not.

    Pantilimon
    Terry Bertrand Clyne
    Chadli Hazard Sanchez Elia
    Austin Kane Aguero

Lots of eggs in Southampton + Spurs, but I like it.
Giroud will reinforce the team next week.

I like Elia too (though as a Juve fan I'm slightly concerned, hopefully Koeman knows how to get the best out of him)
      Time to dump Austin?

Afternoon all. Had a nightmare Christmas and NY FPL-wise. Dropped from 700's to 6500.

Trying to steady things. Got 2 FT.

    Pant Foster

    Terry Bert Wisdom PVA Hutton

    Haz Sanchez ADM Chadli Boyd

    Costa Kun Kane

Was thinking Chadli out for Punch and keep a transfer. Seem logical?

They're cheap enough to have a go with for a while. I don't imagine they're nailed on though. Chambers will come back in and Chesney after he's sat on the naughty step.

Ospina yes. Just dont think Chesney is good/consistent enough. Personally , I think Bellerin is better but as he's young, Wenger could rest him as he eases him into the fold.

Finally my wc team is set! Im going without Aguero this time 🙂

    DDG, Myhill
    Clyne, PVA, Bellerin, Janmaat, Wisdom
Di Maria, Oscar, Hazzard, Sanchez, Sanchez
    Kane, Giroud, Costa.

If Augero dosent deliver the goods, is this aiight?

2 goals in 2 for Puncheon but he has only scored 1 the rest of the season.
In the 2012/13 season he achieved 5 goals and 6 assists with 8 bonus points.
2013/14 season he grabbed 7 goals and 3 assists with 18 bonus.
I seem to remember Puncheon tends to score bunches, so now could be a good time to get him.

Then we have Elia, we can see what he has done from the article on him, but maybe the PL will suit him a bit more. The worry is Mane, he'll be returning mid Feb supposedly and we could be transferring Elia back out again pretty soon. For those on a WC, Elia will probably double rise, giving you a 0.1m profit if you want to get rid before the deadline.

Both at 5.5m, who to get?

    Hi guys
I have been stuck in the 400k mark for around 6 weeks now. Need some help to move up to the 100k mark or less.

    DDG - Gilks
    Moreno - Cahill - Baines - Wasi - O'shea
    Eriksen - Silva - Hazard - Siggy - Marney
    Costa - Austin - Kane

Both WC still available and 2ft and 0.8ITB

Which players do I need to make my side much stronger?

anyone finding this season very fun? The only players i definitely want is hazard sanchez aguero.

plenty of budget options in defence..if u go expensive utd city arsenal chelsea all have the fixtures to do well

plenty of midfielder alternative options like carzola oscar eriksen coutinho etc..together with puncheon elia moses

upfront austin ings defoe bojan giroud falcao all could become options
