Captain Sensible – Gameweek 26

Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Eden Hazard (26%) leads the way in a closely-contested race this week. The Belgian has managed just two assists in his last four at Stamford Bridge but will fancy his chances of returning to form – visitors Burnley have conceded at least two goals in each of their last six road trips. With that in mind, it’s perhaps surprising that only 17% have opted for Diego Costa – the Spain international has found the net in eight of his nine home appearances so far.

Sergio Aguero is just behind Hazard on 25%. The City striker ended his goal drought with a brace against Stoke last time out and is expected to recover from a minor back problem to welcome Newcastle to the Etihad. With Yaya Toure back on board and Samir Nasri and David Silva both in form, the Argentine will be looking to improve upon a surprisingly poor home record – Aguero has found the net in just three of nine outings in front of his own fans.

Despite serving up five double-figure hauls in the last eight, Harry Kane is backed by only 11% of Fantasy managers as Spurs welcome West Ham to the Lane. Sam Allardyce’s side have managed a single away clean sheet all season and will struggle to keep their hosts at bay, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side look for a morale boost prior to next weekend’s Capital One Cup final against Chelsea.

With that quartet hogging most of the votes, there are a number of differential candidates for those willing to gamble with the armband. Romelu Lukaku is backed by just under 4% at home to a Leicester defence that has shipped at least two goals in eight of their last nine road trips, whilst Arsenal trio Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud have been largely overlooked ahead of a visit to Palace.

I've logged in just to balance up the cr@p answers above!

Gil is an attacking mid/winger, probably Villa's most technically gifted played and vs Chelsea, looked the only likely to cause them problems. Nailed on question doesn't need to be asked, imo.

You can't say someone is nailed on when they've just signed and there's a new manager in palce. If he doesn't perform he probably won't play, regardless of ability.

They way Sherwood plays a 4-0-6 formation?? We're not talking about Pulis here. He's nailed on don't be daft.

    Best move here fellas?

    A) Santi -> Mane
    B) Clichy -> C Dawson
    C) Coloccini -> Haidara
    D) Something else

    Bank 0.2m, 2FT

    Foster
    Terry, Clichy, PVA
    Sanchez, Hazard, Silva, Oscar, Santi
    Aguero, Kane

    Myhill, Ayoze, Bellerin, Coloccini

With Schneiderlain and Wanyama in the midfield they're more confident going forward. Yes, I think they do have goals in them. I think Santi will get the odd rest with CL and FA Cup fixtures coming up which also swayed me that way. Both moves are decent though as your squad is strong. Freeing up cash for a striker in the next 2 weeks seems wise, either way.

            Cheers, all makes sense.

            A) enables a decent 1 week punt for Oscar (ADM/Ozil/Wally) next week also I guess before we all load up on Spuds in GW28

You planning for Costa/Sturridge soon then?

Neither actually. Confident with the current 3 (Aguero, Giroud, Kane) and mainly have my eye on Bony after DGW is out of the way.

For Chelsea I've no idea who my 3rd player will be as it'll depend on funds and rotation around CL. Fabregas ideally, if I think he'll play both.

I think I'll be going Costa for their DGW - hoping it'll be later on though as will struggle to squeeze him in for GW28.

Been considering Bony also - if he nails down a starting role he'll be coming in.

That 3rd striker spot is key. Are you not tempted to get Bony for GW28 (LEI), regardless of DGW?

From pulis on anichebe, so ideye / bera not nailed?

“Victor’s the only one we’re still waiting for,” said Pulis. “Everybody’s fine, everybody’s up and running. Jonas has played a couple of reserve games now. He’s back into the mix so we’ll go from there.

“We’re hoping Victor will be okay for next week for the Southampton game and we certainly need him.”

What's the diff? Consider the extra is spent on a bet that lescott will score a couple. If he doesn't you've denied yourself a bit of coin

He did used to get a few ay? Still lescott is one of the league's best when it comes to getting on the end of a corner and burying it.
I'd imagine dawson goes up still.

He has an incredible goal-scoring record, but he has had pens at times, so I don't know how misleading it is. He has 2 this season compared to Lescott's 1 in less games fwiw.

    A)Austin, Baird & Schlupp > Giroud & Dawson & PVA

  9. HuttonDressedasLahm

    9 years, 3 months ago

Right, so yes it's risky bringing in Costa this week, but as I have only Kane Hazard Schlupp out next week, and two FTs so I can do it for free.

    Also still have my WC

So what do you make of Giroud to Costa ADM to Mane for free?

Then could do Baird or Schlupp out next week and bench the other three

Is it worth it considering Costa probably doesn't have a double and is on 8yellows

My midfield is a mess (don't ask, blame early lineups)

    Hazard Alexis Santi Wally Moses

3 Arsenal (again don't ask). I plan to sell one. I am debating between Wally and Cazorla. Prime target is Mane. So the questions is:

    A) Cazorla to Mane
    B) Wally to Mane
    C) Save FT and bench Cazorla (play Defoe if fit or PVA/Fonte)
    D) Save FT and bench Wally (play Defoe if fit or PVA/Fonte)
    E) Something else

    The team as it follows:
    Foster
    PVA Terry Clyne Fonte Baird
Hazard Hazard Alexis Santi Wally Moses
    Kun Kane Defoe
    1,1m ITB , 1FT, around 5K rank

If Defoe is out I am gonna play 4 3 3 I guess

Who is the designated penalty taker for Liverpool, when Stevie G is injured?

        Yes, Sturridge was fuming.

Not good for morale in the Liverpool dressing room. Stevie G called Balotelli "disrespectful" on live TV.

I cleaned out my history on FF, deleted cookies (chocolate-chip) and reset my password store... that seemed to fix the problem. Logged in on Firefox - one time shoe shine.

While it's reasonably quiet, what to do with this lot??

    Foster Myhill
    Jones Bellerin Azpi PVA Wol
    Haz Caz Wally Sterling Boyd
    Kun Kane Defoe

    A) Save FT for DGW
    B) Caz/Wally > Ozil/Sanchez
    C) Defoe > Costa
    D) Jones > Clyne

This season has been an absolute pain for injuries, this GW was supposed to be an easy save (first since GW2!) but I now have 4 flagged players.

    DDG (Smith)
    Terry PVA Pieters (Trippier Wisdom)
    Hazard Alexis Ozil Cabella (Boyd)
    Aguero Kane Defoe

Cabella has been ruled annoyingly, would you play Boyd and hope Cabella's fit for next GW or get rid now? He was going to become Eriksen for GW28 so would only be for 2 weeks.

What transfer would you do? Or still save and hope for the best?

        Trippier 12 pointer?

I'd still save, anything else will probably mean costing yourself an extra 4 points in the next couple of weeks.

Yeah not saving my FT would mean a hit in GW28 to get Eriksen.

But if Cabella ends up not playing in GW27, it would be a 2 point hit to get Siggy/Downing for 2 weeks over Boyd this and a blank next.

        Worth considering?

In that case yes, I'd make the transfer.

I would save, team still looks quite decent and can still play Boyd and hope Cabella's fit next week vs Villa.

I think Cabella being fit for the next GW is the big issue.

If he does play, then I'd be happy saving, if not I end up in a bit of a hole.

Other concern is that despite loads of injuries we do have Sammy, Gouffran, Obertan and maybe Aarons to play in wide roles so he might not rush Cabella back.

I think his main problem is that Markovic is banned in Europa so you'd think he's a shoo-in for the league games.

Very low, Markovic has done well recently and is banned in Europe so will likely play in the league.

Also, if this an FPL concern, why take the risk for a cheap bench midfielder? He's playing RWB, it's not as if he's going to score a shed load of goals.

    Hi guys,

    What to do this week?

    Pant / Krul

    Terry / Bellerin / Wisdom / Wasi / PVA

Haz / Sanchez / Di Maria / Puncheon / Boyd

    Aguero / Kane / Giroud

    1 FT £2.3m ITB

Thinking the smart move is to probably get wasi out for:

    a) Yoshida
    b) Haidara
    c) Vlaar

    d) Puncheon > Mane (really wanted to do this but looking forward it doesn't make sense to take out a starter instead of fixing defence)

Needs to be a cheap replacement with the ambition of getting eriksen and costa in a couple of weeks.

    Cheers,

Who does Ollson's comeback affect more, Dawson or McAuley? I can't afford Wisdom->Lescott as I won't be able to then do Wasi->Haidara for next GW.
