The Community Round Up

Double Gameweek fever was in full swing this week as the likes of Charlie Austin, Matty Phillips and Christian Benteke racked up huge scores to whet the appetite ahead of double Gameweek 34. Our community writers and hot topics cast our eye over the impending doubles and we also see the launch of a new regular article, which looks back at the community’s best and worst mistakes in the Gameweek gone by. In our members tables we look in-depth at Liverpool’s best attacking assets and catch up on the ups and downs in our mini-leagues in light of Benteke and Austin’s exploits.

The Community Articles

This week we introduced the first in a regular series of articles looking at the community’s tales of woe and joy during the last Gameweek. With QPR and Aston Villa’s assets running riot there were plenty of tears being shed in our inaugural Rough with the Smooth article.

What better way to reward QPR’s two-goal double Gameweek hero Charlie Austin than handing him his P45? With Chelsea and a blank fixture over the next two Gameweeks many of his owners are considering ditching the striker, with JK on hand to look over the potential replacements. Chelsea’s Loic Remy is at the front of the queue of replacements for money, according to this article by PKWrona.

Benteke’s four goals made him the standout hero of Gameweek 31. Given The Puntmaster‘s excellent recent form in unearthing differentials, it was no surprise to see the Aston Villa man in his trio of punts last week. To see his predictions for low ownership success in Gameweek 32, click here.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article. Also watch out next week when we will be asking for your vote in our search for the best community article during March.

The Hottest Topics

As well as Charlie Austin, another striker that many are looking to ditch is Sergio Aguero, who has now gone five Premier League appearances without a goal. Despite his poor tallies, Andy85 says the Manchester City man is still worth keeping.

Another striker to come under Andy85’s watchful eye is Chelsea’s Loic Remy, who, in spite of competition for places, looks to be a risk worth taking, particularly with a double Gameweek 34. Diego Costa’s injury has propelled him into many other community members’ thinking, with Ruth NZ pointing out that he could be set to miss more than the next two Premier League matches.

While dumping the hamstrung Costa is a sensible move, RuthNZ went a bit more leftfield with an earlier post during the week in which he revealed plans to ditch this year’s budget striker sensation Harry Kane. Read his justification for this bold move here.

Although, with Liverpool and Hull joining Chelsea and Leicester with a double Gameweek 34 perhaps ditching the Spurs man may not be so hard to do, as competition hots up amongst the forward positions. Daniel Sturridge is among the Liverpool players that many are considering drafting in, according to our hot topic on the best Reds trio for Gameweek 34.

The Members Tables

For those considering Liverpool options, I’ve constructed this handy table looking at their most attacking options. Sorted by shots in the box, this has a global filter.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

Spectrum won the Long and Winding Road’s prestigious FA Cup of Tea tournament this season, when he beat Mull in the final. Sticking with the Long and Winding Road , Simon Walsh has taken top spot from Greenwindmill in their main league.

Despite this disappointment Greenwindmill continues to lead the FFScout moderators and contributors league, but second placed Mark is edging closer and closed the gap to just 14 in Gameweek 31.

Ross Gillard is another surviving leader, and stays at the summit of the Top 1,000 Any Season league. Meanwhile in the Top 100 Any Season league Rohan Rees has snatched top place.

Choking Hazard hit the top score in Gameweek 31 with 100 in TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition. There are now 84 teams left after 33 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 53.

In RedLightning’s FFS January Wildcard League James 101 has taken the lead, meanwhile in his Top 10,000 Any Season league, Aaron Thorburn continues at the summit.

Meanwhile, in OFCProdigy’s Scout Picks Challenge, the Fantasy Football Scout picks continue in the lead with Mookie and Sticky Mockwell in close pursuit following Gameweek 31.

I'm chasing too. Someone once told me to punt with your team, not your captain. I didn't really listen at the time but it probably has some logic to it

Kane & Hazard yeah, I don't know about Giroud...Burnley won't let too many in I shouldn't think and Giroud may or may not be amongst the one or two they put past them. Or maybe I'm being pessimistic..

Yeh so maybe Hazard, but Kane has home advantage......Yeh Burnley are tight, that's why I benched Kane last week, but the Arsenal will be a different story because they play through the middle, turf moor size restricts wing play.

40 points from top of ML, so feel like I need to make a move. Heavily leaning to doing A and might even slap the armband on Sturridge. Thoughts?

    Myhill
    Ivanovic Clyne Vertonghen
    Hazard Silva Mane Eriksen
    Aguero Giroud Kane

    (Foster, Boyd Bellerin Schlupp)
    2FTs. WC available. Bank=2.2

4 people between the leader and I. They're all on their toes. I had the lead coming into last gw and ended up looking up with a 40 point gap. By far, the worst week I can remember.

As for next week, can easily field 11 and bringing back Kun for the West Ham match is not out of the realm.

    Save FT? £1.1m in bank

    Myhill

    K. Davis
    Fonte Bertrand Lescott
    Hazard Silva Sanchez Eriksen
    Aguero Kane Austin

    Bench: Zouma, Wollschied, Lucas.

Thinking Austin>Murrary. This allows me enough funds to do Zouma>Ivanovic for next week. I can then play a 442 easily. Would this be a good move? Or am I better off holding my FT?

    Pantilimon
    Terry | Fonte | Bertrand | PVA
    Hazard | Sanchez | Eriksen
    Aguero | Giroud | Kane

    Jakupovic | Boyd | Sinclair | Wisdom ---- 2 FT + 0.4m ITB (+WC)

I'm thinking of saving my WC until GW34. So until then I was thinking perhaps Jaku --> Myhill this week. And then for GW33, use 2 FT to offload Sinclair/Wisdom, and then use the WC for the DGW 34?

          true

Aside from the fact that it's in black and white, a lot of people i know don't like it as it's basically 1:30+ hours of just dialogue and they have no appreciation for it 😡

Not really a fan of the latest ones because everything is based on the special effects and stuff. City of God
-Foreign language but honestly an incredible film

      12 Angry Men
-so impressed by that film its all shot in one film but its really gripping and so ahead of its time.

      Time Crimes
      - Also foreign language but can definitely appeal if you're into the sort of films with quite intricate plots

      Interstellar
      - More recent, visually stunning and if you're a physics nerd is quite satisfyingly accurate on many points.

      No country for old men
-Javier Bardem is just too good.

      Boyhood
-very very cute film, just a lovely watch, the unique way it was made really does add something to it over just being a gimmick.

      Citizen Kane
-Completely different style of film (due to its age), so it can be a good watch purely from a cinematic history POV

      Inside Job
      - one of the best documentaries I have seen and its on a topic which i think concerns everyone (the financial crisis), it plays into some of the popular narrative a bit but is nevertheless a good watch and Matt Damon narrates...

      Rear Window
-Another oldie. but its classic and simple.

      There will be blood
      - great performances by daniel day lewis and paul dano

      Dallas Buyers Club
      - finally swung around to mcconaughey's acting and jared leto was incredible IMHO

      Also remember really liking Amadeus.

Hope you have a good evening

That's an incredible list tnx, I've watched half of them already I think, don't get the love for Citizen Kane though. To me it was just boring, not that I am against these older movies because I really like Rocky and the Godfather, or Scarface also amazing! But to me it's just a bridge to far I guess, it's made in the early 40' or something right?

I'm aware, yet it's a unnecessary risk for Wenger at the moment. Just think that move would lack logic considering Bellerin is playing fine and holding his own, like Walcott, and others, think it's a more likely scenario he'll get his first taste at the Reading game IMO.

went with Berahino in the end

The lure of LEI and their cr@pness away plus the high number of shots they concede in the box, cpl, Pulis back at his old team who have 1 CS in 11 was too good to ignore

Interesting. The Scouts were talking up Ideye too, weren't they? Maybe Brom is becoming a more well-rounded team.

I've brought Murray in. AP has worked wonders at Palace and I expect his form to continue.

Ideye also has nice stats, pens swung it to Berahino for me

I've been talking up Murray a lot in the last 2 weeks and was really close to going for him

I got put off by the fact that

            a) Jedinak may come back and nick pens
            b) He generally doesn't play 90
            c) With Chamakah and Sanogo back gametime is a worry
            d) Berahino had a nicer 2 game run

Murray's ownership is the sort of thing that normally appeals to me. But this season my punts haven't paid off as much as they have in the past, so I've become less Doosra, more Jonty in recent weeks.

Come wc I'm going for it, 10 DGWers plus Sanchez. Kun and Kane are gone

One should definitely be used to get Santi out of there for the blank.

Probably the Duckworth-Lewis method, knowing FIFA.

Nice. I hope Bale and Ramsey get to play on a big stage, and the rest of them of course....oh, and the fans as well.

Not sure what transfer to make, have 2 fts and will wildcard after GW33 so I just need a 2 week punt, what would you do (£1.3m itb)

    Guzan
    Clyne, Ivanovic, Rose
    Hazard, Sanchez, Cazorla, Gylfi
    Aguero, Kane, Austin
    Subs Krul, PVA, Boyd, Hutton

Thinking Austin out to Remy, Pelle, Murray or Berahino.
Or maybe Guzan to Davis / Myhill

Bellerin has really stepped up to the mark this season.

And tbh I don't think Debuchy is very good.

    Debuchy bench role.

He conceded the penalty against Liverpool. Still very green, I think Debuchy is better defensively

        He scored too.

I think Debuchy has a scrap on for right back.

He's missed a lot of game time this season binning Bellerin would be harsh IMO.

Many young players get their chance due to injuries and never lose it. I think it's a big call for Wenger...much bigger than when Chambers deputised for Debuchy earlier I'm the season. He was a bit rubbish.

I agree...I asked last week if anybody could give a single reason why he should lose his place..he's been excellent.

A real find all the way from Barcelona!

No complaints either way as a huge Arsenal and Barcelona fan. Though with the whole Dani Alves situation as it is, wouldn't they love to have Bellerin, in spite of how green he is. Montoya doesn't cut it for me. And Douglas…eish!

Imagine Jordi Alba and Bellerin on either side of the defence. Not many Clean Sheets though!

My impression is that Debuchy is an injury-prone hothead. What I've seen of Bellerin suggests he's mature beyond his years and experience and has a promising future if he continues to develope at his current rate.
