The Community Round Up

Double Gameweek fever was in full swing this week as the likes of Charlie Austin, Matty Phillips and Christian Benteke racked up huge scores to whet the appetite ahead of double Gameweek 34. Our community writers and hot topics cast our eye over the impending doubles and we also see the launch of a new regular article, which looks back at the community’s best and worst mistakes in the Gameweek gone by. In our members tables we look in-depth at Liverpool’s best attacking assets and catch up on the ups and downs in our mini-leagues in light of Benteke and Austin’s exploits.

The Community Articles

This week we introduced the first in a regular series of articles looking at the community’s tales of woe and joy during the last Gameweek. With QPR and Aston Villa’s assets running riot there were plenty of tears being shed in our inaugural Rough with the Smooth article.

What better way to reward QPR’s two-goal double Gameweek hero Charlie Austin than handing him his P45? With Chelsea and a blank fixture over the next two Gameweeks many of his owners are considering ditching the striker, with JK on hand to look over the potential replacements. Chelsea’s Loic Remy is at the front of the queue of replacements for money, according to this article by PKWrona.

Benteke’s four goals made him the standout hero of Gameweek 31. Given The Puntmaster‘s excellent recent form in unearthing differentials, it was no surprise to see the Aston Villa man in his trio of punts last week. To see his predictions for low ownership success in Gameweek 32, click here.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article. Also watch out next week when we will be asking for your vote in our search for the best community article during March.

The Hottest Topics

As well as Charlie Austin, another striker that many are looking to ditch is Sergio Aguero, who has now gone five Premier League appearances without a goal. Despite his poor tallies, Andy85 says the Manchester City man is still worth keeping.

Another striker to come under Andy85’s watchful eye is Chelsea’s Loic Remy, who, in spite of competition for places, looks to be a risk worth taking, particularly with a double Gameweek 34. Diego Costa’s injury has propelled him into many other community members’ thinking, with Ruth NZ pointing out that he could be set to miss more than the next two Premier League matches.

While dumping the hamstrung Costa is a sensible move, RuthNZ went a bit more leftfield with an earlier post during the week in which he revealed plans to ditch this year’s budget striker sensation Harry Kane. Read his justification for this bold move here.

Although, with Liverpool and Hull joining Chelsea and Leicester with a double Gameweek 34 perhaps ditching the Spurs man may not be so hard to do, as competition hots up amongst the forward positions. Daniel Sturridge is among the Liverpool players that many are considering drafting in, according to our hot topic on the best Reds trio for Gameweek 34.

The Members Tables

For those considering Liverpool options, I’ve constructed this handy table looking at their most attacking options. Sorted by shots in the box, this has a global filter.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

Spectrum won the Long and Winding Road’s prestigious FA Cup of Tea tournament this season, when he beat Mull in the final. Sticking with the Long and Winding Road , Simon Walsh has taken top spot from Greenwindmill in their main league.

Despite this disappointment Greenwindmill continues to lead the FFScout moderators and contributors league, but second placed Mark is edging closer and closed the gap to just 14 in Gameweek 31.

Ross Gillard is another surviving leader, and stays at the summit of the Top 1,000 Any Season league. Meanwhile in the Top 100 Any Season league Rohan Rees has snatched top place.

Choking Hazard hit the top score in Gameweek 31 with 100 in TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition. There are now 84 teams left after 33 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 53.

In RedLightning’s FFS January Wildcard League James 101 has taken the lead, meanwhile in his Top 10,000 Any Season league, Aaron Thorburn continues at the summit.

Meanwhile, in OFCProdigy’s Scout Picks Challenge, the Fantasy Football Scout picks continue in the lead with Mookie and Sticky Mockwell in close pursuit following Gameweek 31.

I switched Austin to Remy. Think he will play most minutes if Mou is happy with him and would like to keep him for next season, he need start getting minutes and now is a great time to give him some since Costa is injured

After watching the Villa-QPR game I have learned QPR cannot defend. If Spurs couldn't score against Burnley, there is no guarantee that they would score against Villa. To be honest, I think Villa will win.

If you watched that game, surely you could see Villa can't defend either? Both teams (Villa and QPR) need to go all out to get a result.

This 'no guarantee that Spurs will score' is garbage. That's not the way to look at it. Do you see Villa keeping a CS? I don't. They don't keep to many, especially away. Yes, you could say the same for QPR, but going against Kane means you are risking a larger haul (e.g. a hat trick) compared to going against Hazard (top score this season is 14)

No they can't. Ditching Benteke not wise.

I'd do it, but you also have issues in defense next week yes? I see sanchez/benteke and 3rd defender as an issue for you next week, is haidara back?

Just did Austin to Remy. Part of the club now. Yay! I think.........couldn't justify any other move with my team and the upcoming blank. Just feels weird, but surely not a bad move.

    Thi big dilemma

I am in a total limbo on who to captain, Benteke did good for me last week as captain, and my original plan was to to swap him out for Remy this week on my 1FT as a preparation for the blanks next GW and the DGW after that.

Then I start looking at the the stats (the last two weeks) for Benteke vs. all players and he is up there on top of goals, and influence and among the top for the overall index. Then comes my gut feeling, that actually made me take Benteke in last DGW for Aguero. My gut tells me:

    - Sherwood knows Spurs and in particular Kane, Villa is not yet safe they have something to fight for and Benteke seems to be very inform. Spurs almost always manage to let their opponent score, even though they win in the end. Benteke as a captain would be a real differentiator to catch up in my ML.

    - Burnley manage to defend against Spurs, is the Villa game the 3rd game where Kane comes back after two blanks as he has done before. Or is it so that him playing for England brought him away from focus and is he getting tired?

    - Burnley may give Gunners a fight and even tough there will be Gunners goals, it will not be a slaughter. Maybe it would be a waste to captain a Gunners player

    - Chelski - I have this feeling that QPR will continue to surprise they are at home and the CH defence is not good atm. Rey will probably score but will it be more than one before he will be replaced

Shoot down my arguments, my question is - should I gamble on keeping Benteke and captain him? Or is it Remy and Captain him?
