Champions League 2014/15 – Fantasy ITeam Matchday 11 picks

We’re just hours away from the start of this season’s Champions League semi-final stages. As always, we assess the Fantasy iTeam (FiT) Player Price List and offer two players per team for your perusal ahead of Matchday 11’s deadline.

A free Fantasy football app, FiT is available on a number of mobile devices, including iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android. Fantasy managers have until 10 minutes before the first kick-off in any given Matchday to make any final alterations to their starting XIs – this evening, then, that deadline is 7.35pm, as Juventus entertain holders Real Madrid in Turin.

We’re supporting FiT throughout the competition and have an official Fantasy Football Scout League, with an iPad mini available to the winner. There’s also a VIP European Match Day Experience for two on offer for the overall winner of the Fantasy iTeam Champions League game.

Tuesday 5 May

Leonardo Bonucci (5.8) is not only the cheapest route into Juventus’ first-choice rearguard but also a threat in the final third, having tallied four goals in all competitions this term. Despite facing off against an offensive powerhouse in Real Madrid, a clean sheet for The Old Lady shouldn’t be discounted, given that Juventus have conceded just nine goals at home in Serie A and been breached on just five occasions in their last 13 outings.

Carlos Tevez (9.9) boasts three goals in four league ties, propelling him to the summit of the Serie A scoring charts. Of the forwards still left in Europe’s premier competition, only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo (both eight) have notched more goals than the former Manchester United frontman’s six. Furthermore, Madrid have conceded four goals in their previous two road matches, revealing a vulnerability in their defence that a buoyant Tevez could exploit.

Looking beyond the obvious choice for Madrid coverage in Cristiano Ronaldo – who bagged his sixth hat-trick of the campaign on the weekend – James Rodriguez (8.5) presents a strong argument for selection. The Colombian midfielder is enjoying his richest vein of form since making the switch from Monaco last summer, notching three goals in four league outings. Moreover, Rodriquez has only failed to deliver attacking returns in three of his previous 10 appearances, racking up six goals and three assists in the process.

In the absence of Karim Benzema – who misses out by virtue of sprained knee ligaments – Javier Hernandez (6.0) could be set to spearhead Madrid’s attack for the fifth match in succession. The diminutive Mexican has racked up three goals and a pair of assists in his last four appearances in the first XI and, having scored the winner against neighbours Atletico in the previous round, looks excellent value for many.

Wednesday 6 May

With five goals in his last two starts, Luis Suarez (10.1) is in scintillating form. In addition, the Uruguayan marksman has enjoyed success in the Champions League, netting four goals in as many appearances. The Catalan have steamrolled Getafe 6-0 and Cordoba 8-0 in their last couple of matches and with former manager Pep Guardiola paying visit, it makes sense to invest in their form – and cheapest – forward.

Barcelona’s attacking contingent have understandably garnered the plaudits for a five-match winning streak that’s harvested 20 goals, yet it’s worth noting that their defence didn’t concede once during that stretch. The La Liga giants have given up just two goals in their last seven encounters at the Camp Nou, encouraging a move for the 7.2-priced Gerard Pique, who’s notched seven times in all competitions this season and ranks fourth – behind Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi – in terms of league output (five goals).

With Robert Lewandowski doubtful to feature in the Barca clash after sustaining a fractured jaw and broken nose in Bayern’s defeat to Borussia Dortmund last week, Thomas Muller (9.5) emerges as the prime candidate among the Bundesliga champion’s squad. The World Cup winner is the highest-scoring midfielder left in the Champions League, having accrued six goals in eight starts.

Looking beyond Bayern’s backline in light of their inability to record a shut-out in three of their previous four outings, Thiago Alcantara’s (5.4) resurgence after a year-long injury lay-off demands attention. No player created more chances (four) than the Spain international on the night of Bayern’s second leg against Porto – a game in which Thiago claimed the opener. The former Barcelona starlet has been used sparingly by manager Guardiola since his return from injury yet has started – and proved highly influential – in Bayern’s last two European ties.

FANTASY FOOTBALL SCOUT LEAGUE

We’ve already set up an official Fantasy Football Scout league for you to join, with an iPad mini on offer to the winner – the league name is Fantasy Football Scout and the pin is 11155.

How are people thinking about Cazorla, Ramsey and Ozil?

Caz hade a great game, spotkicks etc, but plays further down.
Rambo seems to produce, but have injuries lurking around and lacks supporting stats.
Ozil seems nailed and plays far forward, but seems to have a slight dip.

Going to be really busy this week so have made my transfers and know my team for the weekend:

    Schmeichel
    Ivan, Morgan, Kosc
    Hazard, Silva, Ozil, Cazorla
    Aguero(C), Benteke, Kane.

Next week, I'm tempted to take a hit to do Kosc + Haz/Silva --> PVA + Sanchez. Is it worth it, or should I keep Kosc and go without Alexis?

    Hello guys,

I have big troubles in a private league. I was like Chelsea leading from august but unfortunately just until now(hopefully i`ll overtake the 1st place again in the end). So i am 2nd in this league with a friend of me just took 1st place with just a single point last round(thankfully to Sanchez).Could you give me any advice how i could improve my team and i`ll underline that - it must be a bit weird ideas something unexpected because he's a close friend and could easily guess my transfers and make them himself to block me from making pts.So here i go with my squad:

    Mignolet(Davis)
    Van Aanholt, Ivanovic, Koscielny,
    Silva, Coutinho, Hazard, Sterling,
    Benteke, Giroud, Vardy
    Subs: Davis, Baird, Wollschied, Puncheon

    His team:

    Ospina
    Terry, Lovren, Ivanovic, Wasilewski,
    Sanchez, Coutinho, Hazard,
    Vardy, Kane, Kun
    Subs: Foster, Hutton, Boyd, Puncheon

And i believe he's having 2 transfers in the coming round too.I am having 0.9 in the bank and i am looking to have 5 players in the dgw with the cost of some pts ofcourse. So guys do you have any thoughts on how i could improve my team compared to his side(which is obviously way stronger than my current team).

no point bothering with aguero now. you need sanchez primarily , downgrade ivan to fund it

I am actually looking to risk with different players than him, Sanchez couldn't give me a way to make more points than him. I am thinking of getting rid of the Liverpool midfielders and probably Giroud(even if participate in the dgw he's in awful form and didn't paid off when i bought him 5 rounds ago). Please try to think out of the line for further propositions 🙂 I am willing to "pay" 12 pts for 3 extra transfers and i believe those who i would change would be players from those: Sterling, Coutinho, Vardy, Giroud, Ivanovic(would probably exchange him with Cahill cause he's cheaper and could score too) and i am in need of players that he didn't use atm.

      Sterling & Coutinho > Ozil & Cazorla?

      Then Vardy > Wickham?

      Something like that work?

Yes i was actually considering Cazorla but in pair with Ramsey due to the bad form of Ozil last games, but unfortunately Ramsey picked up this injury, i hope he`ll get up for the dgw. Wickham sounds enough strange & good too, thx for the proposition i`ll keep it in mind.

Probably best option, to maximise your DGW players.
But to make the changes to adjust team isn't worth it.
Still got a wildcard? then do it

You've made your bed, just hope for the best
you'd probably need -8 to get Sanchez in, and that wouldn't be worth it.

if cazorla, scores this week, then will cazorla will be the new toy to transfer in?

      1. JohnsDonerKebabs
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 1 month ago

Can do it in -4. Sanchez could hardly be considered a toy though. It's hardly knee-jerk to get him!

          9 years, 1 month ago

Well you made your mind up with Giroud/Ramsey/Kosc.
By switching this it is a knee-jerk!

If Sanchez blanked this week would we even be having this conversation?

          1. JohnsDonerKebabs
            • 9 Years
            9 years, 1 month ago

            True. Giroud blanking didn't help
I'll see what happens at the weekend.

I'd prefer to take the hit then have major regrets if Sancez goes wild in 37

I'd monitor the situation. Follow the stats.
Everyone who has Sanchez will (C) in the DGW..
It would be scary not to have him.
I also think it'd be scary not to have Ramsey.

Hi, if you could please provide some input, it would be greatly appreciated. Only 0.3 itb.

    A) Sterling > Cazorla/Ramsey (no hit)
    B) Sterling & Fabregas > Sanchez and 6.9 or less midfielder (e.g. Siggy) -4

I am leaning towards B actually, due to Sanchez envy, and fear of Ramsey injury and not a lot of confidence in Cazorla goals...

    Re-post from earlier:

I really want Ramsey and Benteke in my team for the last weeks but which way to get them in?

    Mignolet
    Terry, Azpilicueta, Huth
    Hazard, Sánchez, Sterling, Henderson
    Agüero, Giroud, Vardy

Myhill, Cambiasso, van Aanholt, McShane 2 FT, 0,4 itb.

Now, with Giroud potentially being rested for Sunderland and/or WBA, I could do these moves over the next two weeks:
GW 36: Giroud, Sterling -> Benteke, Ramsey
    GW 37: Henderson, Azpilicueta -> Özil, 5.0 def (-4)

Would you consider this a viable strategy?

Casillas isnt that good anymore either. If theyre comparing ospina to ddg and courtois and then making that statement it doesnt make much sense as you would hardly find anyone in their league available.

Maybe lloris but ospina has done nothing to suggest wneger needs to spend 20m on a keeper

          Ospina is better than Casillas.

Arsenal needs a World Class GK or keep Ospina and Szczesny, I only see Cech as an option but I´m not seeing Mourinho selling Cech to a rival so I would keep the actual GK.

Toss up. Giroud could score a brace or blank. Ramsey could get hurt or some other midfielder du jour enjoy the points. Depends on your other forwards.

I drafted Giroud in my WC, so he is on my team and staying as it would be ridiculous to spend hits to reconfigure. I got Benteke, but not from Giroud (from N'Doye).
