Interview – Geoff Pryor – Sky Sports Winner

Geoff Pryor earned himself a cool £30,000 after clinching the Sky Sports Fantasy Football crown on the final day of 2014/15. In our latest post-season interview, we discuss Geoff’s recent campaign and also delve into his success across a number of Fantasy games.

Congratulations on your victory. Were you confident going into the final day that you’d claim the crown? How did you spend the final day?

Thank you.

I went into the last day with only a 13-point lead, so knew it was going to be tense. I had a good idea who my rivals had at this stage (although I wasn’t correct on all counts). It was a combination of watching Jeff and the boys on Soccer Sunday, along with checking the Sky Sports Game’s live score updates. Like Simon Marsh in Fantasy Premier League, I had my own “Aguerrroooo” moment when he scored late as I had him as my captain. It was around 11pm Sunday night when they finally updated the game scores, and I got the confirmation I was looking for.

What were your final transfers? How many trades did you have left in the final week?

I used my last two transfers on the penultimate weekend of the season on Sunday May 17 as the final part of my transfer strategy. First was used to bring Aguero back in as captain, and the other was to bring in Gylfi Sigurdsson for Christian Eriksen, as I knew some of my rivals had him. Siggy scored that day, so was relieved I had brought him in.

You’ve been a key competitor in “money games” previously – I believe you’ve always fared well in the Sun Dream Team game – what’s your Fantasy Football history?

Thanks again. Fantasy Football has been very kind to me over the years, and I’ve been playing it longer than I care to remember. I started taking it a lot more seriously about ten years ago, and have had some memorable wins over different games and formats. This Sky Sports win is probably my proudest yet, but I’ve also won great prizes in Sun Dream Team, Mirror and the Metro.

How did you fare in other games this season?
I had a good season across Fantasy Football games, I even managed my best ever FPL finish with a rank of 1355. Elsewhere, I finished 274 in Ultimate FPL and had teams placed 14th and 30th in the Sun Dream Team. I’d also managed to claim joint first in the Sun’s weekly game in Gameweek 37, bagging a decent prize. Believe it or not, I also played the Daily Telegraph game (finishing top 100) and the Daily Mail game (finishing top 50).

Do you find yourself concentrating your end of season focus on one game, depending on your progress?

I think it’s just natural to focus towards the game(s) you are making best progress in when it comes to the business end of the season. I do always try to keep my interest in all games though as much as possible.

Do you play, or have you considered playing any of the weekly games that have now been established – like Mondogoal or PlayOn?

I’m not a massive fan of weekly games personally, although I have played PlayOn several times. I finished fifth in the first Gameweek of this season, which won me £600.

Getting back to Sky Sports, how did you manage your transfer strategy throughout the season? Did you make a conscious effort to reserve trades for the run-in?

I always try to and hold a healthy transfer count until the later part of the season, but that should never be at the expense of missing an earlier transfer opportunity. You just have to play the season as it unfolds, and hope that fortune is on your side and you are not using all your transfers on injured players all the time.

In the FFScout articles towards the end of the season you published data about how many transfers were left in teams in Top 10, Top 100 etc. My transfer count was always above the average so that gave me confidence in the run-in to carry on with my strategy.

What was your best decision you made over the course of the season? Was there any decisions that you lived to regret?

I like to think I saved my best until last, as it was the one that finally won it for me. I was only two points in front going into the penultimate weekend with my final two transfers. I was going to use my free captain change on Saturday May 16 and whoever got it would then be transferred out on the Sunday for Aguero (captain).

I had two options. The first was to captain Kane at home to Hull on the Saturday, then switch him and Eriksen out for Aguero and Ki Sung-Yeung the following day. The other alternative was to captain Romelu Lukaku away to West Ham, then swap him out – along with Eriksen – for Aguero and Sigurdsson on Sunday.

I went with Lukaku (goal/assist), which then meant I had Siggy (goal) and Ki was injured. Then, to complete the good fortune, it meant I had Kane away at Everton on the last day – he managed to score, whilst Lukaku blanked.

Like everyone I also had my share of decisions that didn’t work out. One, in particular, I remember was on a Monday night match back in January. My transfer count was healthy, so I thought I would take a punt on bringing a player to be captain that Monday/following Saturday. The transfer was Kevin Mirallas on the night he decided to wrestle penalty duties from Leighton Baines, so his penalty miss meant he ended with a grand total of -1 doubled to -2 as captain!

Do you find the fact that lineups are hidden a benefit when at the top or a hindrance to your strategy?

I enjoy the challenge of trying to work out others teams when they are hidden, which might not be for everyone which has to be a benefit.

Katie Burgin was runner-up in the Scout League and pushing you close at the end – were you aware that her team wasn’t hidden? Did this influence your strategy?

It certainly didn’t go unnoticed by me, but there were so many teams up there with a chance in the end that my strategy wasn’t just aimed at one team.

When we spoke to Kevin Anderson – who finished ninth overall– he mentioned that he was able to track the likely lineups of his competitors. Were you doing the same?

“Reverse Engineering” is a key factor to success in any games where you can’t see others teams. It does take up a lot of time and effort to do this, but for those managers who do it well usually reap the benefit. However with there being so many transfers available in the Sky Sports game, just when you think you have someone’s team all worked out, they make a transfer which gets you scrambling to work it all out again.

How did you go about managing the captaincy over the season? Did you run a system that helped you ensure that you always used the captaincy and transfers efficiently?

I generally went with the captain tactic of switching on a Sunday to someone playing on the following Saturday which produced consistent results. Also key is making the most of the blank Gameweeks where you can get the free captain change.

Do you think you can achieve good results in the Sky Sports game without such planning?

In my opinion, you cannot win any Fantasy Football game without putting in the planning. In the Sky Sports game in particular, there are so many points to be gained through a well thought out transfer and captaincy plan.

Is there an essential strategy you use when playing the Sky Sports game that you’d recommend to new players?

First recommendation to new players is easy – make sure you read D1Sable’s excellent weekly previews on Fantasy Football Scout for a great insight into the game.

Are there any rules in the Sky Sports game that you’d tweak?

I think the Sky Sports rules and scoring are generally well thought out, with the tackling/passing bonuses meaning that some players you don’t consider in other games become good value. Perhaps a slight tweak to the defensive scoring to make investment in defenders a bit more worthwhile.

Do you have plans for the prize money? Perhaps a holiday to refresh yourself for another title tilt? What do your partner, family and friends think of your achievement?

Everyone is really proud of my achievement in Sky Sports this season, and if the wife hasn’t spent it all yet, then I’m still hoping for a nice family holiday in pre-season.

Finally, would you like to give a shout-out to any fellow Fantasy Football managers or members of the Fantasy Football community?

Just to my fellow Fantasy Football managers – enjoy the summer off and I look forward to resuming battle again next season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Spurs and Southampton "Janus" Appraisal

This is the draft for the forthcoming article. Comments are welcome, especially from Spurs and Southampton fans and those that know the clubs well. All comments will be taken into account in the final revision. As usual, please skip over if you don't want to read a long post.

    SPURS & SOUTHAMPTON REVIEW

Having dealt with Liverpool in the last article we now come to the other two teams that qualified for the Europa League (EL) through their PL finishing positions.

Over the last 10 years, EL (or equivalent) teams that qualified through league position have finished on average 3.2 places lower in the Premier League than in the season in which they qualified. [Source: BBC] Mauricio Pocchettino of Spurs says "the Europa League is a very tough competition because it affects your domestic league...having had a Europa League season I can confirm that it is very difficult to manage with the Premier League and both cups". 3.2 places lower amounts to a loss of around 8-10 points.

The effect on Spurs was indeed very marked. Of the 9 games they played after EL fixtures during the season they won 3, lost 5 and drew 1. That's the form of a relegation-threatened team.

Southampton and Spurs had very different goals records. Spurs F58 A53 GD5 and 9 PL clean sheets. 53 goals conceded is huge for a top 6 team. Soton F54 A33 GD21 and 15 PL clean sheets. The defensive performance was excellent, just behind Chelsea, but the goals scored number masks a problem. 3 times Southampton put teams in poor form to the sword at St. Mary's (Newcastle 4-0, Sunderland 8-0, Villa 6-1) but if you take those three games out, their total of 36 goals in the other 35 games looks nowhere near as impressive. Southampton won 7 games 1-0 during the season and that was more typical for them.

So, Spurs a team that could score goals against most teams but with a leaky defence; Southampton a team with a very solid defence but who struggled to score for much of the season.

    THE DEFENDERS

It is very hard to recommend any Spurs defender based on the season just gone. Lloris was the highest FPL points scorer but his returns lagged quite a way behind similarly priced GKs like Mignolet because of Spurs' lack of clean sheets. Rose showed that he had attacking capabilities with 3 goals and 5 assists, but take those 33 points away and he had 70 FPL points - miserable for a top 6 defender. And he was the best of them.

The only other likely candidate for many managers would be Eric Dier, who won his place back and played the last 15 games of the season, having been in and out of the team before that. He shouldn't be priced too high and, like Rose, could be worth considering if Spurs look like they can improve their defensive record.

Southampton, on the other hand, were defensive gold for much of the season - until Forster got badly injured. Clyne and Bertrand racked up very good totals for players who started at 5.0, as did Forster who was leading the GK charts until his injury. But there is a double problem. Firstly, Southampton now have EL to contend with. And secondly, their assets, especially the defensive assets, are unlikely to be so kindly priced next season. Clyne may leave, but would Bertrand or Fonte be worth 6.0 or 6.5? We could easily be facing a scenario, as with Everton assets in the season just gone, where the price has increased but the performance is reduced.

One Southampton defender that might be interesting, however, is Maya Yoshida. Likely to play alongside Fonte in the absence of Alderweireld, he could conceivably be priced at a bargain 4.5. This would enable the likely Southampton-Bournemouth rotation pair to be a feasible one.

    THE MIDFIELDERS

There are many Spurs and Southampton midfielders that can be discounted as FPL options based on the season just gone. The defensive midfielders like Schneiderlin (who may leave anyway), Wanyama, Mason and Bentaleb are poorly rewarded by FPL and unlikely to be cheap enough to be bench midfielders. Of the attacking midfielders, Lamela, Dembele, Townsend, Tadic and Elia were all in and out of the team and none had seasons to write home about.

So this leaves us with 3 main contenders and a wildcard to look at - Mane, Eriksen, Chadli and the wildcard Ward-Prowse.

Mane and Chadli are very comparable. Both ended priced between 6.0 and 6.5, both scored 11 PL goals (Mane with 4 assists, Chadli with 6) and both established themselves as regulars during the season. Mane had marginally the better stats for both creativity and shooting but there was very little in it. With Mane you have the key man in the Southampton attack; with Chadli you have a less key player but in a team more equipped to score goals. Take your pick. Much depends on price for next season but it is hard to imagine either coming in at much more than 7.0 (maybe 7.5) and at that level either could be worthwhile options.

Eriksen has been a very frustrating player for FPL managers to own. He played much more than in the 2013/14 season (3132 minutes against 1976 minutes) yet only managed 30 more FPL points. At the same time he may have been one of the unluckiest players in FPL terms. His creativity stats are way in front of Mane or Chadli yet he only had 4 assists. He took more shots per 90 minutes than either but only scored 10 goals and managed to hit the woodwork on numerous occasions.

Clearly the main creator in Pocchettino's plans and an expert free-kick taker, the gamble FPL managers will need to take with Eriksen is whether his "luck" will turn next season. If it does he could be a snip at a probable 8.0. If not he could be as frustrating as ever.

The wildcard pick is James Ward-Prowse. Considered a "big prospect" by Roy Hodgson, the 20 year old played 25 games for Southampton despite an injury absence, though often as a substitute. His creativity stats are good (better than Mane and Chadli) and he takes a good number of shots per 90, albeit with a poor conversion rate. He also has a share of corners and free-kicks. Unlikely to be priced above 5.0, he could turn out to be a very good budget midfield option if he becomes a regular starting player. We have a potential bandwagon here.

    THE STRIKERS

Harry Kane. Stellar season, 21 goals, 7 assists, 191 FPL points (2nd highest scoring forward in FPL) despite not having established himself as a 1st team regular till mid November. Wow. But can he do it again and what will his price be?

Taking the first question first, the stats say he was lucky. But the stats can lie. His creative numbers per 90 (chances created, key passes) are lower than Pelle but he had more assists. His shots in the box per 90 were also less than Pelle had but he scored way more goals and a lot of them from distance.

Maybe he's just that good, a clinical finisher where Pelle is a poor finisher. But it is also possible that Kane had one of those seasons where everything turned to gold, and the way his form (and FPL returns) levelled off over the last 8 games of the season lends some weight to that argument.

Then the 2nd question, price. I can't see how it can be much less than 10.0 (maybe 9.5). That's going to make having Kane a much more tricky call, he won't be a default selection as he was when priced at 5.5 or 6.0. I'm pretty sure he won't be a GW1 selection for me at that kind of price, though I am sure others will differ.

Pelle was prolific for Koeman in 2 seasons at Feyenoord and started quite well at Southampton. But as the season went on he picked up a reputation for his ability to put seemingly unmissable chances over the bar, against the woodwork or into the GK's hands. In many ways he was the reverse case to Kane who he led in chances created and shots in the box per 90 by a long way but fell far behind in assists and goals scored. Unlucky, or just a poor finisher?

The general view is poor finisher. But how did he score 50 goals in 57 games for Feyenoord then? And why did Italy cap him 3 times in the 2014/15 season? He would be a big, big gamble for GW1 but at a likely price of 7.5 he could be a bargain if he starts to fire. And I, for one, wouldn't be entirely surprised to see that happen.

The other obvious candidate that should be mentioned is Shane Long. He has very good creative stats too (better than Kane) and while his shooting numbers aren't as high it should be remembered that he has usually been used in a wide role at Southampton and often as a substitute. If he were to get the nod over Pelle as 1st choice central striker he could be a real bargain 3rd striker at around 5.5.

    SUMMARY

Lots to consider with these two teams. How will they cope with the Europa League? How will the likely price increases for many Southampton players as well as Kane affect their value as FPL picks? Can some of the potential bargains like Dier, Yoshida, Ward-Prowse and Long nail 1st team spots? Will Mane have a better run with no ACON to worry about? There are probably going to be good players to have from these two teams. But it may take a few weeks after the season gets going before we can be sure about which ones.

Europa is the reason as well as PL finishing positions. But I'm not intending to produce 20 articles, they take a long time. Swansea and Stoke will be dealt with in the same article and when I get lower down the table I may well deal with 3 teams together.

I just skimmed but no mention of jrod in the strikers? Better than long and maybe better than pelle. Been out a long time though.
Pelle is the ultimate confidence player. Those 50 goals were preceded by years of poor returns from memory. We saw both sides of him again last season.

It will be like having a new player for them and hopefully at a cheap price.

He'd be raring to go after pre season I'd imagine. Providing there's no setbacks. My guess is 6.5/7.0 and shouldn't have too much of a problem nailing down the spot on the left

J Rod - I completely forgot about him. 🙂 I'll add something in the revision. Any pointers?

Pelle - yes, good seasons, bad seasons. His best two were just before he moved to Southampton though and I guess they therefore have more weight.

That's what I hate about the popularity of these sites. There is no such thing as unearthing hidden gems anymore which was the most rewarding part of the game. No matter who you uncover somebody else has already been telling the masses about em. Like ndoye I got him a couple weeks after his move. Came on for a good brag after he scored for me and found there was already a little ndoye movement on here 😆

Jrod. Good finisher, tees others up, very consistent since breaking through and should be cheapish. Cons are been out for a year and has competition for a spot. Equally he makes pelle, long, mane, tadic etc even less assured of starts. Especially considering koeman likes to rotate and they have Europa.

Pellet yeah a got him gw4 last season on the back of those 50 goals and a sniff of early form. Armband and all and he got me a brace 😎 typically it was a week Costa or aguero got an even bigger haul 🙄

Yep typical innit. I ruined my chances of a pb those few weeks. I had Costa when kun got 4. Then swapped to kun so Costa gets 5 in 2 🙄 still pelle (c) gw4 and Alexis (c) gw5 minimized the damage. Swings and roundabouts I suppose

Mane should be pretty nailed on you would think. I think a fit JRod should establish himself with a little time. I would not get straightaway unless he has an excellent preseason and top fixtures. Then I may

      Re Spurs

Eriksen is quality. First season he looked quality at times but faded out of games. Last season he again looked quality for 2/3rds of the season and started having more impact late on in games but I think his drop off in form can be attributed to fatigue.

Next season after summer rest I expect him to continue to progress and he is a definite target of mine early on. He ticks all the boxes. In open play he has attacking threat, shooting from long range but also getting in great positions. He is the stand out creator for an attacking Spurs team. He demand the ball and links up everywhere increasing his incidental assist potential (should Spurs ever get anyone else who can create a goal from nothing). And he takes majority of set pieces. Again I expect fatigue to become an issue as Europa and epl take their toll so the key will be jumping off at the right time.

I can't see much else at Spurs, kane will come in too expensive and looks prime for a regression.

I think he out performed his abilities this year. If he keeps his place he will still contribute but not beyond a 6/6.5 mf. I expect him to come in the 7s. It would not surprise me if Spurs looked to strengthen their 3 attacking mids though, it's currently a weak spot of the team as they can be quite ineffectual at times and struggle to break down determined opposition

I love watching eriksen. His fpl points have always been so unpredictable though. Form and fixtures aren't a good gauge of his fpl points returns. Like Rooney a very frustrating fantasy player.
Chadli is a much more predictable and consistent points scorer imo.

This. Silva had a good FPL season but it wasn't actually that far ahead of what he has done before.

Eriksen is still young and, as Zan pointed out, fatigue may have caught up with him later on, he did play a lot of games in all competitions. He has the potential and will be on my GW1 shortlist for sure if priced at 8.0.

Soton have a range of decent options but there price is hard to predict.

Koeman has a defensive mentality so they should again be an option, especially given the attacking threat of clyne, bert and Fonte. Any of those under 6m is worth a shot.

I rate pelle as a fantasy option, he was a little unlucky at times but gets lots of opportunities. if he comes in around 7.5 and is still their main man up front then he worth it.

Mane is a great option and on another level to Chadli imo. Mane very direct and I can only see him building on last season. Again though that hattrick may just price him out of good value.

I'd wait and see with jrod, that's a long time off with injury and can take time to get back firing

Agreed. Problem is gonna be price with saints after over performing a bit last season. Jrod might be the one to get a bit of value. Mane should be around 8

I don't think I would have a defender from either Spurs or Soton(assuming Soton defenders are 5.5-6.0). Chadli and Mane will probably be good value even with Europa League. Shane Long as central striker would have been nice to have alongside Aguero and Costa, but I think players like Berahino, Cisse, and Sakho are more likely to get starts

I think kane will perform next season. Sure, maybe not to the same level, but watching him, he looks like a twenty goal striker, is the main striker for an attacking top five team, Is on penalties, and some of his finishes this season were just wow... (Chelsea and arsenal come to mind)

Is there potential for Spurs defense to be a bargain next year? If they tighten up over the summer it could really be worth investing in rose, who scores goals too.

Also, you mentioned pelles stats being better than Kane's, but I remember a large part of the season- January to March, where Harry Kane's stats were at the top, ahead of agueros for shots on target and shots in the box.

Really enjoyed having a look through. Thanks for this 🙂

Yoshida - I don't think he's going to be first choice. I could be wrong. But either we will sign Toby (unlikely) or we will invest. If Koeman was happy with Yoshida, he wouldn't have chased Toby on loan. So I think he will be an irrelevance by the beginning of the season. Toby's replacement is worth monitoring.

Long - can't see him nailing down a starting position, not with J-Rod returning. J-Rod is more versatile upfront (can play wide or as the main man) and Koeman clearly has a great relationship with Pelle, whose link-up play is often under-appreciated by FPL players (it normally doesn't convert into points).

JWP - He's definitely a contender for my budget mid. He's got outstanding setpieces - Southgate likened them to Beckham - and a great attitude. I'll be seeing how he does for minutes in pre-season.

I remain interested in Mané - it's worth considering that this wasn't Chadli's first season in the PL but it was for Mané and I think he spent the early part of the season adapting. I think we may sign another GK who may not be as pricey as the likes of Clyne and Bertrand.

Not surprising. I only play blackjack when I go anyway. Best odds compared to markup when played correctly.
Reminds me though of an awesome book called bringing down the house about this group of MIT students that devised an ingenious yet simple card counting system and took the casinos legally for millions! Doesn't work now that they shuffle every hand though.

Wish there were some sort of Men In Black-esque Neuralyzer in real life, someone just spoiled what's likely to happen at The Wall next episode, and that memory eraser shite could be really handy right now. Valar Braileulis, what is seen, can never be unseen.

Yeah, guess many are used to the pacey story of season 3 and 4 with cliff hangers every episode and sword battles and whathaveyou's. Think it's the most you could do with the material considering Feast of Crows is almost universally penned a borefest with stagnant to no archs in some characters. I've liked the buildup to the final three episodes, last one was great and can only imagine what's to come for the last two.

Taking Bran out this season was a godsend though, his scenes since he left Winterfell after the Theon fiasco have been horrid to say the least 😉 Children of the forest my arse, Children of the Borefest more like.

Yeah, I think they should have just killed them off, Bran and Rickon or whatever his name was, some giant wolf comes along and fuchs them right up.

😯 That's what I'm saying, though Bran does have a pretty big role coming up. Rickon, I don't know what his deal is tbh, must be chilling somewhere cool.

let's kick things off this Dead Zone with a quick roundup of some of the biggest stories making today's back pages...

    - Manchester United are ready to make a £25m offer for Raheem Sterling but that could trigger moves by Manchester City and Real Madrid for the unsettled Liverpool star (Mirror)

    - Chelsea are closing in on a loan deal for Manchester United flop Radamel Falcao (Star)

    - Liverpool are ready to finalise a deal for Manchester City's James Milner (Express)

    - Napoli believe they are destined to beat West Ham to the signature of Sevilla coach Unai Emery by making a superior financial offer than the east London club as they seek a replacement for Rafa Benitez (Independent)

    - Spurs midfielder Nabil Bentaleb wants an improved deal to remain at the club with Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus waiting in the wings (Telegraph)

      Probability of all the rumors.

      - 30%
      - 0%
      - 80%
      - 80%
      - Juventus, maybe.

If Liverpool sell Sterling to Utd we only get 20% of the fee.

Come on Real Madrid, get an offer in, Benitez! 25% sell on fee if he goes abroad.

Arsenal are set to rival Inter Milan for the signature of highly rated Monaco midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia this summer, says the Daily Mirror.

The France international, 22, has a contract in the South of France until June 2018, with the Ligue 1 side valuing the player at £25m.

Okay, what does Fuchs' arrival have to do with Schlupp? Is he really leaving?
Otherwise, if he does stay and is listed as a defender on FPL, could easily be one of the best OOP options of the season, again.

True, but think they will not play as attacking football as they did towards the end of last season, when they were desperate.

A 5-4-1 with Albrighton/Vardy and Schlupp on the wings, and Kramaric/Ulloa up top is very feasible. Even a 4-4-2 maybe, if they want to ditch the whole back 5 thing.

You wouldn't mind if a 4.5/5.0 defender who is OOP and very attacking is rotated once or twice. And if he stays, I would anyway expect him to play most of the games (after all, he is very highly rated at the club - was voted Young Player of the Season).

Martin Skrtel unhappy with Liverpool contract offer, calls it 'unacceptable'

Skrtel was quoted by Slovakian website Akualne in an interview that casts doubt over his future with the Anfield club.

"It's unacceptable for me," Skrtel said when asked about the contract offer that has been presented to him by Liverpool.

"I think that contracts like this offered to players who are much older than me or the player who had some health problems.

"The contract which has been offered to me is unacceptable, so I did not sign it. I have one year left and there has been some speculation about the interest from other clubs. We will see what happens."

"I'm close to signing Zouma. And I'll have also another surprise", he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

The France international only moved to Stamford Bridge from St Etienne in 2014, with the 20-year-old contracted to the Blues until 2019.

If credible then presumably a loan - surely they'd be bonkers to let him go. He showed real promise.

I'm not sure Mourinho is as convinced as you are. Hr was scathing about him the other day, and publicly as well.

Was he? I thought that was just Loftus-Cheek? Zouma is phenomenal, there's no way Chelsea will sell him.

This. Even a loan seems highly unlikely unless Chelsea bring a top CB in. If they did I guess it could be possible that Zouma is viewed as a long term replacement for JT and loaned out for a season to play regularly in a top league. But I doubt it.

I'd find a loan strange, who are they going to get that's a better deputy than Zouma? I actually think he's possibly better than Cahill already, but can understand not wanting to break up the Terry/Cahill partnership.

A lot of Chelsea fans think he's better than Cahill. I'd rather he stayed but it can be difficult with players his age - what is best for them, 15 games for Chelsea or 45 for a team like Sampdoria? We have a similar call to make with Bamford - 3rd choice at Chelsea or regular PL games with another club?

There is talk about Miranda. But personally I believe Zouma will stay.

Sounds like they want him on loan. Doubt that happens, unless Chelsea sign some high profile central defender (probably a long-term successor to JT) and let Zouma leave for a season of first-team football. He's still very young.

Arsenal will offer €50m for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, claims Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Argentina international, who has a contract at the Sao Paulo until 2018, is understood to be unhappy with life in Naples after the Serie A club's poor season last time out.

And the Italian sports daily says Higuain's brother and agent will meet with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis in the next few days to discuss the player's exit from southern Italy.

No thank you, we didn't sign him for 40 two years back, when he was younger and a shade quicker. I'd rather have Lacazette/Martinez.

        40m in 2013 = 50m in 2015, Inflation.

But Yes, Martinez would be a good buy...not so sure about Lacazette

    Panti (4.5) 4.0 Total: 8.5

    Terry(6.5) 4.5 Newcastle(4.5) Pva(4.5) 4.0 Total: 24.5

    haz(11.5) Fab(9.5) Silva(9.5) Milner(6.0) 4.5 Total: 41.5

    Aguero(12.5) Austin(8.0) 6.0

Thoughts on this? No arsenal, united or costa is a problem

    Realistic pricing?

A bit optimistic I think. Terry will be at least 7 and we don't know who Austin plays for. Think Silva would be around 10 as well. Aguero could be 13. But here's hoping.

Only a matter of time though.

Depends where he goes. If he goes to Villa, Newcastle or Palace then I imagine he'd be £7m.

If he ends up at Southampton then £8m easy.

Just wanted to get back to fpl talk on here. just a quick jot down. Thinking sunderlands end of season defensive form probably hikes the price up alright. Was thinking austin would be perfect fit for newcastle or villa. Even palace. not much point him sitting on bench for team higher up.

Milner at pool an option? Price?

Panti and PVA won't be 4.5m. They were both that because they started the season as understudies at different clubs. They'll both be 5m I imagine. Same with Newcastle, you don't get locked in players for average clubs that cheap.

Silva could be a little more, Milner could be gold but again, could be closer to 7m if he's deemed a regular at Liverpool.

A Newcastle defender for 4.5 is pretty possible, I think only Janmaat will be priced 5.0 for Newcastle, Krul + others will be 4.5 or lower.

Exactly my thinking! They were under performing this season massively!

          Krul

          Janmaat Collocini xxxxx Dummet

good enough backline if al fit.

          Whats this lascelles lad like?

*Pantilimmon will surely be 5.0, no 4.0 playing keeper will be available.
*Terry for 7.0, wouldn't want to start with a Castle player.
*Milner and Austin? Let's see where they end up first.

I'm just going to go with one playing keeper. Maybe west brom and stick to that. Sick of missing points by picking wrong one. Id say youd get as many points by sticking to one 5.0 or under than swapping and changing.
Any research done by anyone on this?
Best combo goalkeepers home and away? v Single cheap one?

If that's your way of thinking then rather get a 4.5m playing keeper from a promoted side and his backup.

Heaton(4.5m) was the second highest scoring keeper this season with 150 pts.(First was Fabianski with 151pts)

            Yeah, rotating keepers sucks.

I ended up with Ospina and Krul but I pretty much played Ospina all the time. He won't be £4.9m this season though.

Schmeichel will probably be £5.0m this season, so Boruc or Ruddy may be the way to go.
