Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 27

Pedro is ruled out of Chelsea’s trip to Norwich with a hamstring injury. Man United and Liverpool face more problems in defence, whilst Leicester wait for news on their midfield dynamo ahead of Tuesday’s home clash with the Baggies.

Bournemouth
Junior Stanislas lasted just 23 minutes of the Cherries goalless draw against Watford before being withdrawn due to a hamstring complaint. After the match, Eddie Howe went on to say:

“It appears to be a hamstring which is a real blow for us. Junior has been outstanding for us this season, a real creative force and it came out of nothing. He had said he felt really good in the build-up to the game. It was just one of those things so we will have to get it scanned to see how long he will be out.”

Stanislas’ injury allowed the fit-again Max Gradel to emerge from the bench, signaling the end of his six-month injury absence. Gradel bagged three assists in his final two league outings before sustaining a knee problem in late August and bearing in mind that Matt Ritchie is Bournemouth’s top player for assists, with just four, the Ivorian looks likely to be unleashed from the start in the midweek home clash with Southampton.

Chelsea
Pedro was forced off with just seven minutes on the clock during the Blues’ win at Southampton yesterday. Post-match, Guus Hiddink conceded that the Spaniard could be sidelined until the Blues’ FA Cup clash with Everton on March 12:

“Pedro has got a problem with his hamstrings. We have a tight schedule now, Norwich on Tuesday then we have Stoke and then PSG and then the Everton game. (He is) very short on the Everton game, I think he might be fit at that time but I don’t know.”

Pedro’s absence looks set to hand Oscar a chance to return to Guus Hiddink’s starting line-up for the midweek trip to Norwich. Having missed the 5-1 home win over Newcastle due to injury, the Brazilian was afforded an 83-minute run-out as the Spaniard’s replacement at the weekend and seems in line to line up alongside Eden Hazard and Willian in the attacking midfield spots behind Diego Costa at Carrow Road.

Crystal Palace
The Eagles are sweating over the fitness of Yohan Cabaye after the playmaker limped off with just over 10 minutes remaining of yesterday’s 3-2 loss to West Brom.

Leicester
Claudio Ranieri is optimistic that N’Golo Kante will recover from a hamstring problem in time for the Foxes’ home match against West Brom:

“I don’t know now (how serious it is) we will check tomorrow (Sunday) morning. I hope it is not so long because he is important. But King replaced him very, very well. He felt something to his hamstring. He always felt something and we manage him during the training sessions. I think it is nothing serious.”

A possible absence for Kante could be a big blow to the Foxes as they look to rack up a seventh straight clean sheet at the King Power as West Brom roll up in midweek. Kante sits top amongst midfielders for successful tackles and interceptions and is placed third for recoveries, underlining his importance to their defensive cause.

Liverpool
The Reds’ centre-half Mamadou Sakho was replaced with just 25 minutes on the clock after coming off worse in a clash of heads with team-mate Emre Can.

If Sakho is ruled out against City in midweek, Jurgen Klopp could be forced to field makeshift centre-back pairing Lucas and Kolo Toure if the Merseysiders’ injury situation fails to ease, boosting Sergio Aguero’s armband prospects at Anfield.

Man United
In his first start since Gameweek 13, Marcos Rojo lasted just 55 minutes before being forced off with an ankle issue against Arsenal this afternoon. Post-match, Louis van Gaal went on to say:

“I don’t think it is serious; it was a kick. We have to wait and see, of course. It was also a good position that I gave him the first minutes to play. My plan was already 60 minutes. He didn’t reach the 60 minutes because of the kick.”

Rojo’s injury adds to Van Gaal’s injury problems, though the performance of replacement Tim Fosu-Mensah at left-back suggests that the teenager may well get the nod at home to Watford in midweek if the Argentine fails to recover. With Chris Smalling absent due to a shoulder injury, though, United have now kept just a single shut-out in five, with Van Gaal forced to field Michael Carrick alongside Daley Blind at centre-half against the Gunners.

Norwich
Canaries boss Alex Neil revealed that Seb Bassong and Wes Hoolahan are big doubts for the midweek encounter against Chelsea after both missed the trip to Leicester with problems picked up in training:

“The two weren’t ready. They were carrying wee knocks. It is touch and go for Tuesday. We’ll have to monitor that over the next day or two.”

Watford
Hornets boss Quique Sanchez Flores revealed that Etienne Capoue was withdrawn before the hour-mark due to fatigue, as the schedule continues to pick up pace:

“Capoue is a very important player for us but he has played nearly every minute. I felt he was a little bit tired. He wasn’t clear in his mind and wasn’t choosing (the right options) well. It isn’t normal for Capoue but it’s possible (he was tired) Tomorrow we will talk with him but I have no worries about him.”

West Brom
The Baggies are sweating over Chris Brunt’s fitness after the Irishman was stretchered off during yesterday evening’s 3-2 win over Palace. Post-match, Tony Pulis bemoaned a potential injury to yet another key first-team player:

“We’re concerned about him. Looks as though he’s done something to the knee joint. We won’t know until tomorrow we’re hoping it’s not serious because we need Brunty in the team. He gives us balance on that side. Without Brunty, James Morrison and Jonny Evans they’re three big players for us and make us play. They’re good footballers and we need those in the team. I don’t know whether it was a foul a free-kick or whatever, but I know he was in pain when he came off. Until you scan it I just don’t know.”

Probably rested, i'd expect him to play this midweek. But given he has a blank GW30, I have shipped him out for Leicester's Morgan.

So this is me this week. 6.0 in the bank but I think I'll save my free transfer. Three frees before gameweek 30. As it stands I have ten for gameweek 30, not including Gosling (because Gosling) or Ozil. I'm thinking of doing Butland to Hart and Payet to maybe Silva before then in preparation for a future double. Any other suggestions? Gosling to Siggy?

Save my free transfer this week? 6.0 in the bank.

    Butland
    Azpilicueta, Daniels, Fuchs
    Alli, Ozil, Payet, Mahrez
    Aguero, Kane, Vardy

    Subs: Elliot, Targett, Dier, Gosling

What are peoples thoughts and opinions on Aguero? He played 120mins yesterday and anoth game in 2 days time.. I have a feeling an injury is coming.. Or he will he be rested?

I took him out last week with plans to get him back this week but now im having doubts?

Costa and Lukaku based on fixtures against Norwich and A.Villa but i know they are short term moves as they both blank gameweek 30 where as Man City play.. Just dont know if Kuns legs cant hold out until then.. Add a champions league game to the mix too..

I prefer Vardy over Kane, and I see Kane and Ighalo as fairly even (although no doubt Watford are out of sorts), but seeing as you can only get Costa in for Ighalo and I much prefer Aguero, I'd go Kane -> Aguero 🙂

Tough one. You're going to want Aguero for the Villa and Norwich games but obviously can't quite afford Ighalo to Aguero. Not sure I'd want to lose Kane or Vardy though. Dunno.

I'm aware that's not much help.

      1. The Wise Owl

Could take a hit, downgrade a midfielder and swap Ighalo for Aguero.

Maybe not do it for a hit. Downgrade the midfielder this gameweek then get Aguero for the Villa game. Aguero played 120 minutes yesterday. City have Liverpool in two days. I think he could be rested. Certainly don't think he'll play 90.

    Schmeichel
    Smalling - Daniels - Azpilicueta
    Alli - Mahrez - Sanchez - Payet
    Aguero - Vardy - Kane

    Hennessey - Bertrand - Rose - Stanislas

    2 FTs. 1m itb.

I want to take a huge risk and do Sanchez to Depay but seems a little pointless with a blank soon for both. United's fixtures after GW30 aren't great either.

I should probably just do Sanchez to Ozil right? Other move could be stanislas to Lingard but I'll only end up benching him even with Watford (h)

Hi all some advice on the following please.
    My team is:
    Rudd - Hennessy
    Huth - Creswell - Ivanovich - alderwereld - Smith
    Payet - Sanchez - firmino - Stanislas - mahrez
    Kane - vardy - aguero

    2ft 0.3 itb
I'm thinking Creswell and Payet to Virgil van dijk and Barkley?
Other part is thinking Kane to lukaku but I am not sure as Kane is in good for too.
    Or please suggest?

They probably will blank. They have to beat Hull next week in the cup replay.

The current fashion for shipping Payet reminds me of the recent fashion for shipping Ozil.

      That was silly.

      Selling Payet for SPURS/eve/blank/chel isn't.

I have to agree with Christina. Really close to ship, but the game vs eve is what is preventing me from doing so...

Both are players who can score, assist and create big chances against any opposition. Payet will sit on my bench for the blank.

I agree, but some might prefer playing the fixtures/blanks in front of them. It all depends when that double GW's are for Payet. Many might be able to bring him back with FT's or WC.

It reminds me of Kun->Costa sellers two week ago that are now up 13pts vs 2 pts with Costa facing nor and Kun facing livp.

    Hey guys should I WC!?
    Or
Sell Payet & Vardy, (only had them for 1 GW)
For Willian & Luk 4pt hit!

    Hennessey McCarthy

    Bellerin Smith Kol Simpson Borth-Jack

    Mahrez Sanchez Alli Arnie Payet

    Kun Giroud Vardy

    Cheers

Personally I'd sell Sanchez + Giroud before selling Payet + Vardy

Your defence and gks look much more in need of attention than your midfield... How much do you have in the bank?

    How's this looking for tomorrow?

    Adrian
    Koscielny Daniels Ivanovic Fuchs
    Mahrez Sanchez Alli Payet
    Vardy Aguero

    Fabianski Siggy Targett Ighalo

    1) Who to captain
    2) Who to bench
    3) Any transfers needed?

    Thanks!

      1) One of the strikers
      2) As you have it
      3) Nope, if you have 2FT then definitely roll one.

Aguero, keep bench, dunno no idea of budget

First up thank you to the poster who talked me out of playing Virgil ahead of Willian.

    Butland
    Daniels, Fuchs, Bellerin
    Ozil, Ali, Mahrez, Willian,
    Vardy, Kane, Aguero

    Hennessy, Payet, Virgil, target.
    2.9 + 2 free.

I can't see any obvious transvestism.

I would play VVD over Daniels- don't see Bournemouth scoring or keeping a cs

Is anyone considering a Southampton defence double up for the next few weeks- thinking VVD and Fonte could be a good pair

Considered adding Forster to vvd and target

morning gents - 2FT, who to ship out first?

Cresswell or Dawson, both fixtures aren't great.

    1. DVassell
      • 12 Years

Cries well for VVD or other Saints defender

Cresswell for VvD in my opinion, but Dawson is also a good sell. Just coin toss and get a SOU defender.

    1 FT , 4.4 ITB - Good to go?

    Forster
    Bellerin - Simpson - Wollscheid
    Mahrez - Ozil - Payet - Alli
    Aguero - Kane - Vardy (C)

    DDG - Dier - Dann - Stanislas

Thinking of doing Dann to Daniels, but not sure if I need to do it now.

Also - Agree with benching choices? Dier is OOP and has more chances of goals (like yesterdays incredible save from Fabianski), but away to West Ham doesn't look good.

Just to let you know there will be no community picks lottery for GWK 28 due to the tight turnaround of articles this week. The next one will be for GWK 29. I'll put a lottery hot topic up mid week for that.

The tight turnaround may also mean we skip a Scoutcast this week. We'll know for sure Wednesday morning on that.

Seen above one or two people considering Everton. If anything I would consider selling Everton!

Why bring in an Everton player? Yes obviously next week is tempting but then

GW29 - WHU: not that easy
    GW30 - Blank
    GW31 - ARS - tough
    GW32 - mun - tough
    GW33 - wat - tough
    GW34 - SOT - tough

Lukaku and Barkley are too inconsistent for me to consider and their defense is a shambles!

There will be a time to bring in Everton players. This is not that time.
