Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 32 – Sunday

Wes Morgan grabs the only goal of the match as Leicester take a step nearer to the title with a fourth successive 1-0 win. Elsewhere, Anthony Martial leaps onto our double Gameweek radars by firing United to victory over Everton at Old Trafford.

Morgan wins it for Foxes

Leicester City stretched out their lead at the top to seven points by way of their fourth consecutive 1-0 win.

Wes Morgan did the damage for the hosts with his first goal of the campaign, latching onto Christian Fuchs’ cross. The latter now boasts four assists and has amassed the second-most bonus points (21) of any defender on the Fantasy market.

Although the Foxes lack a double Gameweek, they have now recorded shut-outs in seven of their previous eight home ties and remain at the King Power Stadium for two of the next three Gameweeks, encouraging investors in their defence to hold tight.

In the wake of his blank against Saints, Jamie Vardy has now failed to net in six successive starts, which will prompt a portion of his 54% ownership reinvest their funds in Romelu Lukaku before Everton’s back-to-back double Gameweeks.

As for Riyad Mahrez, his explosive potential (11 double-figure hauls) should deter many owners from maxing out on double Gameweek players.

Saints struggle on the road again

Southampton were stifled by the Foxes’ regimented defence and were only able to muster two shots on target throughout the encounter.

Ronald Koeman’s side have failed to score in three of their last five away matches and now hit the road in three of the next five Gameweeks, which includes trips to Everton and Spurs, in addition to a home encounter with Man City. Their lack of a double Gameweek and poor defensive record of late (nine goals conceded and zero clean sheets in six) render their squad a relative non-factor during the final stages of the season.

Martials notches United’s winner

Manchester United remain in the hunt for a Champions League berth as they carved out a third 1-0 victory in four outings.

Anthony Martial proved to be the difference between the two sides, bagging his third goal (Timothy Fosu-Mensah assist) in seven starts. Given that Wayne Rooney’s imminent return makes Marcus Rashford a rotation risk, the 7.6-priced Martial represents the choice route into the Red Devils’ attack for their mouth-watering double Gameweek (AVL & CRY).

Man United’s tenth home clean sheet of the campaign underlined the merits of targeting their defence during the double. On that note, both Daley Blind (fatigue) and Marco Rojo (jet-lag) were subbed off at Old Trafford, highlighting the fact that Chris Smalling and David De Gea are the safest options for Gameweek 33 wildcarders.

Out-of-sorts Toffees fail to impress

Everton suffered their third straight defeat and have now tasted victory just once since Gameweek 26.

Romelu Lukaku had an afternoon to forget against Louis van Gaal’s charges, mustering a solitary off-target attempt. Nonetheless, the Belgian marksman is sure to be one of the most popular pick-ups ahead of the Toffees’ aforementioned successive doubles in Gameweek 33 (wat &cry) and Gameweek 34 (SOU & liv) – indeed, he already ranks top for “transfers in” (62,000) at the time of writing.

For those eyeing up the Toffees midfielders, Aaron Lennon (5.6) was intriguingly handed a central support role behind Lukaku as Gerard Deulofeu started on the right wing. Lennon then switched back to the flank after the young Spaniard was withdrawn just after the hour mark.

Roberto Martinez switched things up at the back, benching Ramiro Funes Mori to facilitate John Stones’ reinstatement in a four-man defence. In terms of tapping into Everton’s backline potential, goalkeeper Joel Robles (4.3) is the standout pick by virtue of his budget price tag, while skipper Phil Jagielka (5.1) – who fired two attempts from inside the box yesterday – seems the safest route into the defence.

Main problem with that plan is Arsenal. Their 36 & 38 fixtures are insane, so if a BB in 37 is planned, it's very tough to make it work

              Not as much.

But I take your point, ie Leicester and Spurs. I don't like Spurs fixtures at all anyway, only 35 looks good. Leicester lads I'm keeping though - 35 is a strong fixture for them anyway (whereas 37 isn't for Arsenal)

Which is why the ability to hand-pick 15 DGWers in GW36 for GW37 is going to be a humungous advantage IMO - you know who is going to still be playing for something.

          • 10 Years
          8 years, 1 month ago

But you'll be missing out on Arsenal vs Norwich in 36 by picking up 15 dgwers for 37

Meh - may keep Sanchez and get rid of him with an FT in GW37 - or maybe a defender as well and play "only" 14 DGWers in GW37

              • 10 Years
              8 years, 1 month ago

then getting rid in 37 leaves you an FT short for gw38 when you want Arsenal vs Aston Villa or Newcastle vs Spurs!

you know now as well. with 37, you may be getting players playing for something that you typically would not get. The same could hold true for 34, but less chance imo. good luck either way, we'll see at the end how things turn out

People are going to rip their teams apart. I'm looking for the right balance between keeping my already good team pretty much similar as it was and adding only good DGW players to it, only one risk taken atm: Losing Kane.

Good point - my team has improved my OR by approx 300k in the last 3/4 weeks, so why would I want to completely tear it apart when I don't have to and already have adequate GW34 DGW cover?

Injuries aside I think my team will be okay.

Would have - Milner, Coutinho, Sakho, Lanzini, Smalling, Lukaku, Robles for the double. That's before another couple of transfers.

Granted it won't be as good as someone with a WC in 36 but it's just one of those things. Not expecting mini league rivals to be thinking up such plans

+Gabriel, Bellerin+Sanchez. Quite happy with that team in fact.

2 transfers to get up to 9 DGW players if I like. And then GW38....Arsenal play Villa so there's my captain sorted 🙂

Even though I captained Sanchez this week it ended bitter sweet.

Due to his recent improving performances I had planned for a few weeks for him to be my TC in GW34 as a total differential with the only one in my ML who owned in.

Now I know at least 4 others are getting him in and will likely not be bench boosting GW34.

    WC active:

    Mignolet - Robles
    Bellerin - Mangala - Ogbonna - Sakho - Smalling
    KDB - Payet - Özil - Coutinho - Iwobi
    Martial - Aguero - Lukaku

What do you think? Is it worth to change Payet to Barkley/Lennon who will have double GW now and then take a hit in GW35 to have a full team?

    Robles/de Gea
    Sakho, Bellerin, Gabriel, Souare, Simpson

    Aguero, Kane, Lukaku

    Have I done it?

No GK at GW35. But you can transfer in that but dont know if you will have full team without hit?

Planning to save this GW33 and GW34 FTs and transfer in a GK in GW35. Proably Cech.
This will mean 11 players in GW35

As a non-owner I am VERY pissed at Palace's 'wall'

Haha. Unstoppable, whatever the wall or keeper did. Even Payet didn't know it was in til it hit the back of net.

I put him in 3 weeks ago. (part of the long term gw34 strategy) so stuck with him. Not sure i would do it again...
Cons. Under Benitez hes been playing slightly deeper
Pros. Newcastle have it all to play for and will go down swinging (goals) so could bag a few

"completed 93% of his attempted passes and produced eight recoveries, six dribbles, five key passes and four CBI."

Lanzini is a BPS beast. Only time a goal for him hasn't equalled two or three baps was the 4-1 loss to Spurs

Wanted him on my WC, but it meant only 10 players GW35, so I left him out so I wouldn't have to burn an unnecessary FT later.

      Probably a mistake...
