Scout Notes – Gameweek 32 – Sunday

Wes Morgan grabs the only goal of the match as Leicester take a step nearer to the title with a fourth successive 1-0 win. Elsewhere, Anthony Martial leaps onto our double Gameweek radars by firing United to victory over Everton at Old Trafford.

Morgan wins it for Foxes

Leicester City stretched out their lead at the top to seven points by way of their fourth consecutive 1-0 win.

Wes Morgan did the damage for the hosts with his first goal of the campaign, latching onto Christian Fuchs’ cross. The latter now boasts four assists and has amassed the second-most bonus points (21) of any defender on the Fantasy market.

Although the Foxes lack a double Gameweek, they have now recorded shut-outs in seven of their previous eight home ties and remain at the King Power Stadium for two of the next three Gameweeks, encouraging investors in their defence to hold tight.

In the wake of his blank against Saints, Jamie Vardy has now failed to net in six successive starts, which will prompt a portion of his 54% ownership reinvest their funds in Romelu Lukaku before Everton’s back-to-back double Gameweeks.

As for Riyad Mahrez, his explosive potential (11 double-figure hauls) should deter many owners from maxing out on double Gameweek players.

Saints struggle on the road again

Southampton were stifled by the Foxes’ regimented defence and were only able to muster two shots on target throughout the encounter.

Ronald Koeman’s side have failed to score in three of their last five away matches and now hit the road in three of the next five Gameweeks, which includes trips to Everton and Spurs, in addition to a home encounter with Man City. Their lack of a double Gameweek and poor defensive record of late (nine goals conceded and zero clean sheets in six) render their squad a relative non-factor during the final stages of the season.

Martials notches United’s winner

Manchester United remain in the hunt for a Champions League berth as they carved out a third 1-0 victory in four outings.

Anthony Martial proved to be the difference between the two sides, bagging his third goal (Timothy Fosu-Mensah assist) in seven starts. Given that Wayne Rooney’s imminent return makes Marcus Rashford a rotation risk, the 7.6-priced Martial represents the choice route into the Red Devils’ attack for their mouth-watering double Gameweek (AVL & CRY).

Man United’s tenth home clean sheet of the campaign underlined the merits of targeting their defence during the double. On that note, both Daley Blind (fatigue) and Marco Rojo (jet-lag) were subbed off at Old Trafford, highlighting the fact that Chris Smalling and David De Gea are the safest options for Gameweek 33 wildcarders.

Out-of-sorts Toffees fail to impress

Everton suffered their third straight defeat and have now tasted victory just once since Gameweek 26.

Romelu Lukaku had an afternoon to forget against Louis van Gaal’s charges, mustering a solitary off-target attempt. Nonetheless, the Belgian marksman is sure to be one of the most popular pick-ups ahead of the Toffees’ aforementioned successive doubles in Gameweek 33 (wat &cry) and Gameweek 34 (SOU & liv) – indeed, he already ranks top for “transfers in” (62,000) at the time of writing.

For those eyeing up the Toffees midfielders, Aaron Lennon (5.6) was intriguingly handed a central support role behind Lukaku as Gerard Deulofeu started on the right wing. Lennon then switched back to the flank after the young Spaniard was withdrawn just after the hour mark.

Roberto Martinez switched things up at the back, benching Ramiro Funes Mori to facilitate John Stones’ reinstatement in a four-man defence. In terms of tapping into Everton’s backline potential, goalkeeper Joel Robles (4.3) is the standout pick by virtue of his budget price tag, while skipper Phil Jagielka (5.1) – who fired two attempts from inside the box yesterday – seems the safest route into the defence.

Building WC team we mostly think about those players:

Attack is Aguero, Lukaku + cheep third Mitrovic/Martial (some keep Kane)
Midfield is: Ozil/Sanchez, Firmino/Coutinho, Payet, KDB + cheep Lanzini/Bolasie/Lennon (some will keep Mahrez)
Defense is the biggest problem (money): Gabriel/Bellerin, Moreno/Sakho, Smalling(any other MU too risky) + cheep Delaney/Reid (some will keep Simpson-money)
GK is: Darlow/Mignolet/Robles (DDG is bad idea because not owning 2 out of those 3 may cause problems)

city, eve,mu defenders are big rotation risk thats why I don't think of getting them apart form Smalling

Any other players worth to get in WC team?

That's pretty much the FFS template (maybe Dann as well)

Disagree on DDG being a bad idea personally. Nailed United defender and a fair chunk cheaper than Smalling.

DDG + Darlow - no Robles in DGW GW 33 + Darlow in GW 35 will give only 1-2 pts imo + no Migs
DDG + Robles - no GK in GW 35 + no Mignolet who is essential
DDG + Mignolet - too expensive 🙂 + no Robles in DGW GW 33

Yup, very tempted. My thinking is Sanchez TC might outweigh extra points from fringe DGW players like e.g. Delaney, Ward, Lingard, Lennon, Bolasie etyc., who will anyway be a liability to your team from GW35 onwards. Play a strong 11 DGW'ers (say with Kirchoff, Mannone, Azpi on bench), a strong GW35 team, and try to field as many DGW'ers as possible for a GW37 BB.

Wild carding this GW. Which means probably a couple of hits GW35-37 for this plan to work. And no injuries or rotation to topple the plan, of course!

If you are wildcarding this week I think you have to Bench boost in 34, it makes the most sense. Trying to predict what players will play in 37 is a tough ask if you want to use your bench boost for then. At least if you WC in 36 it will give a clearer picture of who is more likely to play.

I'm WCing this week. I always planned to WC 36 but injuries put paid to that. But I'm still with Pompel that having an extra Sanchez on that week could be worth as much/more than the BB. Trying to work out a plan but struggling to get my head round it!

Should we be considering some players as single game week players with the potential bonus of playing twice?

Arsenal+United for example. I can see goals (maybe more so from Arsenal) and clean sheets in all 4 games. So are players like Darmian, Rojo, Gabriel, Iwobi, Rashford worth the risk because they should get a clean sheet and potentially a goal for the attackers anyway, and then will potentially get more points in the other game?

Or is nailed on the only option?

Darmian/Gabriel v Bellerin/Smalling is a saving of £3.1m. That could nearly be the difference between Lanzini and Payet. Worth it then maybe?

All depends on current setups etc but worth thinking about.

On the flipside though, if Bellerin plays both that's already potentially an extra 4 points with the clean sheet without any attacking returns. How much would someone like Payet beat Lanzini by

generally, I would imagine anyone who makes an obscene amount of transfers, would be activating their WC. (Should they still have one)

Same boat as me, my ML rival had just made 5 transfers (16 point hit)

no chance he would dare do that as he is top. so he has WC activated.

if it is showing you he has made 5 transfers then he doesn't have the WC activated. He may activate it at some point during this week, but currently he hasn't got it activated 😛

that is my point about having to monitor the team value and detect a large drop with 0 gameweek transfers, which means the WC is in use

there's really nothing you can do either way though is there.

What i'm trying to say is he won't go the week without activating it.

With DGW34 on the horizon, and a budget of £10.7 for two defender spots, I am looking for the best pairing I can get to go alongside my man Bellerin.

    * No BB chip
    * Saving my WC for later (36/37)
    * My other 'benched' defenders (Simpson & VVD)
    * I don't own 3 players from any one team so no restrictions 🙂

    (advice greatly appreciated)

I just simply cannot decide between Coutinho and Ozil, and it's taking over my whole plan.

Ozil - lovely home fixtures, also has Norwich and Villa to come, with most teams owning him (as a leader that is a concern)

Coutinho - looks on form, has some nice fixtures and frees up funds to have a better defence, including an extra Arsenal defender.

Not sure how I arrive at a decision on this.

Ozil almost a shadow of himself currently. Coutinho however looking the business

      Do you have Sanchez?
      If not, keep Ozil
      otherwise Coutinho

I have Ozil, getting sick of him, but I know I will be punished if I transfer him out

    A. Sturridge, Lingard & Foster
    B. Martial, Lallana & Hennassey?

Hi guys, my main fantasy football game has Sanchez registered as a forwards. What are peoples thoughts on Kane vs Sanchez for the rest of the season?
Arsenals fixtures are so nice, Kane-->Sanchez is tempting me...

Hmmm. I'd like both but prefer Kane.

Very tough one, Lukaku and Aguero are the other two.
A lot of money is at stake for me and Kane overall ownership is very high and Sanchez ownership is low.
Will see how they both do this weekend I guess and take it from there.

Is it too risky to go with cout/firmino double up?

The viable alternative is probs mata over cout. Can't afford the transfer to shed firmino

Think I'm going to get myself Darmian. Man U looking quite solid recently, after Tottenham away they've got two solid home times. He's cheaper than DDG and Smalling, and he's only missed one game in 13 game weeks (because of injury). Solid pick, I think.

OK, what do you guys think about this?

    Robles, Mignolet
    Darmian, Monreal, Simpson, Dann, Clichy
    Sanchez, Payet, Lennon, Milner, Iwobi
    Lukaku, Kun, Sturridge
