Dugout Discussion – Tuesday – Group D

Group D now draws to a conclusion in Tuesday’s final pair of fixtures.

Spain go up against Croatia tonight as the defending champions look to extend their 100% record on the back of wins over Czech Republic and Turkey.

Vicente del Bosque’s men still need a point to top the group and avoid slipping to second place, where they’d be pitted against the winners of Group E, which looks likely to be Italy.

Croatia, meanwhile, are still reeling from a late capitulation against Czech Republic which saw them throw away a two-goal advantage with just 15 minutes left on the clock.

Turkey and Czech Republic go head-to-head in the other match. Fatih Terim’s men are one of only three sides yet to find the net in Euro 2016 and with just two shots on target, it’s fair to say they need to improve their shooting to stand any chance of progressing.

Bearing in mind that both sides were ranked in the bottom three for shots conceded inside the box after the first two rounds of fixtures, though, Fantasy managers will be optimistic of goals in the penultimate night of the group stages.

    That Croatia result last night has made the knockout stages interesting. Germany, Italy, Spain, France and England now all in the same half of the draw. Who do we think will make it to the final from the other half of the draw? Croatia or Belgium maybe?

      Only because it is a second string side. Barzagli is expected to start and get at least a 2 pointer I reckon so might as well play him for a 3 pointer. Could easily bag a CS.

    England and Spain's failure to win their groups has left the draw for the knockout stages of the Euro's looking very lopsided, with all 5 European nations that have won the World Cup now in the same half.

    Wales v 3rd place team
    Winner of group F v Runner up in E

          Maybe. Points in the bank though. I twisted with Remi's 10 after France game because had 3 chances to improve. Relying on KDB getting more than a goal for a big improvement so think will stick this time round 🙂

      Injury time goals count so it can't be 0-0 unless it goes to penalties.

      I like Parolo as an enabler but may well have no players at all from those 2 teams as I'll wildcard after the R16. 🙂

        You have been sensible keeping the WC.
        It looks like the other side of the draw will have better options as England, Germany, Spain, Italy and France will be hurting each other.
        Having 15 players means 7 have to remain for the round 16 draw. One could choose about 5 games with a player on either side and 5 punts of which you guess the winning side. Unless very unlucky, the chances of having 15 eligigable players will be pretty good for round of 8.

    I think I'm going for Payet(1) -> Giaccherini

    In the (probable) case that Giaccherini doesn't play at all, the risk is only 1 point.

    In the (improbable) case that Giaccherini comes from the bench and scores or assists, the reward is higuer.

      Italy fate is decided and I expect most of the players will get game time that normally would not. Giaccherini is almost certain to be benched.

        Yes, that's exactly what I was saying. I expect the same than you. However, the risk is by far lower than the reward.

        Necid, Griezmann, Blaszczykowski... They all have scored coming off the bench...

        There's only 1 point at stake. So I think it's worth trying.

      City to win it under Guardiola.
      Chelsea to return to traditional Chelsea style under Conte, with clean sheets aplenty.
      Arsenal to be Arsenal and be decent, but not decent enough.
      United to sneak into 4th with Mourinho.

      So many competing this year though. Tottenham have got to be considered, and Leceister, Liverpool, West Ham etc. would also like to be in the conversation.

      Leicester and Tottenham I expect to struggle in the league given they now also have the Champions League to play in.

      Chelsea can be title contenders with no European football. Liverpool are not good enough yet, unless they bring one or two world class players this summer. So my prediction would be:

          Good stuff! MCDs gets easier from here now (I think!), threw in a quick pick team 1hr from deadline and am on 735 right now so quite pleased! Persic and Payet along with solid def has been the key for me.

            FPL should be great with all the new managers. I'm expecting quite a few big signings before the season kicks off. No Norwich this year means I can pick from 20 teams instead of 19 as well 😆

      You can definitely make your transfers between the two sets of games. So between the time the 5pm games end and the 8pm games start, you can make transfers and the players will bank points.

      Didnt hurt me much in fantasy 16 cause i would change captain to Ron anyway
      But ruined me in daily 7,where I was in top 200

        It didn't save my changes at the beginning of the tournie either. Quite annoying because I ended up with a very similar team to my son. I don't like that.

      Is it really that hard to pick one of Guerrero Hazard?
      If it was FPL who would you (c)? Defender who might be rotated/sub or nailed goalscoring attacking midfielder from strong team with a chance for haul?

        I don't know, Swedens defence has been pretty tight and they won't fold easy.

        Since i am top of my ML it might be safer to go for Portugal CS..

          Guerrero - one faul, one bad pass, one good head and no CS.
          Hazard - 90 min of passing and schooting with a chance for assist or goal

    Right chaps. I've got Strnic in my XI and he blanked. I also have Alli+Payet on 1pt.

    A) Sub Giach/Pelle on for Strnic - if so, which one?
    B) Sub Giach for Strnic and Pelle for Alli?
    C) Smash my head on the desk because they're probably both getting rested?
