Scout Notes – International Round Up

Sergio Aguero declares himself fit, Belgians make hay and two midfield heavyweights star for the French in Monday’s international matches.

AGUERO FIT – AND KEEN TO PLAY

Great news for Sergio Aguero (13.1) owners – he’s not injured after all. Bad news for Sergio Aguero owners – he wants to play against Paraguay in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Manchester City striker is close to becoming the most popular Fantasy Premier League pick, with only Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.5) owned by more than the Argentinian’s 43.3%. A brave/foolhardy 62,000+ managers have even drafted him in since GW7, despite Aguero’s previous form for getting injured on international duty.

Deja vu was certainly in the air when reports surfaced that a calf problem picked up in the 2-2 draw against Peru might be more serious than initially thought.

But now Aguero himself has played down the issue.

“You always want to play in the national team and try to do the best, and for now I feel good physically. We did tests, they were good and I’m trying to get as fresh as possible for Tuesday. Last season, for wanting to continue, I ended up injured against Ecuador. Sometimes you think ‘why didn’t I stop?’ Because then I’m out for a month and a half and I miss six or seven games for City. But when they call you for the national team, you want to play. That’s how it is.

With a home match versus Everton coming on Saturday, City coach Pep Guardiola and more than 1,660,000 FPL managers will have to endure Aguero’s admirable patriotism for another long 90 minutes.

No such luck for the 3.4% with Bacary Sagna (5.4) in their squads – the French full back limped out of the 4-1 win over Bulgaria on Friday with a hamstring problem and will be sidelined until at least early November.

BELGIAN BONANZA

It’s a good time to be a Christian Benteke (7.6) owner.

The Crystal Palace striker is in fine form, with three goals in his last four league outings, and he made history in Belgium’s 6-0 rout of Gibraltar last night by scoring after just seven seconds.

Having netted the fastest-ever World Cup goal, he then went on to bag a hat-trick.

Okay, so it was only Gibraltar, but when Benteke is in-form and confident, there aren’t many strikers better, so 6.9% of FPL managers will be rubbing their hands ahead of Palace’s home match against a struggling West Ham on Saturday – the Hammers have conceded nine goals in three away matches to date.

After that, the fixtures are a mixed bag for Palace all the way up to the final international break of the year in November, with Liverpool at home and Leicester City and Burnley away, but an on-song Benteke tends to be a handful for any defence.

He only started against Gibraltar as a thigh problem kept Romelu Lukaku (9.4) on the bench.

At 22.2%, the Everton striker is the fourth most-owned FPL forward in the game, so his post-match tweet that it was ‘time to go home and recover from this little thigh problem’ will have come as some relief to many – over his use of the word ‘little’.

Lukaku has five goals and an assist from his last four league outings and, if fit, would fancy his chances of adding to that against a Man City defence that’s kept just one clean sheet all season.

Two other Belgians enjoyed themselves against Gibraltar.

Eden Hazard (9.9) followed up his strike against Bosnia and Herzegovina with another goal and an assist yesterday.

The 19.7% of managers who have stuck by him will hope that he can end his barren spell for Chelsea, during which he’s done nothing of note for the last four league matches, when Leicester visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime.

And Burnley’s highest-scoring midfielder, Steven Defour (6.0), produced an assist. He has three of those, and a goal, in six starts for the Clarets.

Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld (6.5) also supplied an assist, adding to his goal against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday.

PAYET AND POGBA PERFORM

Reports of Dimitri Payet’s (9.4) demise seem rather premature.

The West Ham midfielder might not yet have scaled the Olympian heights he managed last season, but he has still served up four assists and a wonder goal in four league starts and provided the pass that led to France’s goal in the 1-0 win in Holland.

Palace and Everton away and home matches with Sunderland and Stoke await Payet.

France’ goal came from Paul Pogba (8.3). With 9.9% ownership figures, he remains Manchester United’s most popular midfielder by some margin, but a goal in the GW6 rout of Leicester is his only significant contribution thus far.

Even if his form is on the up, away matches against Liverpool and Chelsea suggest now is not yet the time to splash out on the world’s most expensive player.

Bellerin Boost for Gunners

Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin (6.5) shrugged off an ankle problem to play from start to finish in Spain Under 21s 5-0 win over Estonia.

The right-back was rated doubtful heading into last night’s match and his recovery will be music to the ears of a healthy 25% ownership – making him the third most popular defender in FPL.

Bellerin also sits third in the defender standings and with clashes against Swansea, Middlesbrough and Sunderland up next, looks well placed for further returns at both ends of the pitch.

Well done on that, that season was good for me too. I didn't do as well as you though. Just outside the top10k. Was still a naive FPL player at that time though.

It's an OK tactic but I followed it in a bad way. Going to try a new way now. Less emphasis on ownership. I do take ownership into account but I'm not strict with it.

You were all right about being too strict with getting players with a certain ownership.

I'm now going to get players from a pool of the top owned 10k players. I know it's a similar strategy, but now I'm not looking at overall ownership at all now. The idea is that the accumulation of my players and the combination as a whole team itself is a differential. I still pick players that I want with this too as the top10k usually pick good players.

      BOTTOMED!

Did my two free transfers last week to catch the prices rises. I put Rashford in a couple of weeks ago, which paid off against Leicester, but not Stoke. Now I am looking to get him out for Austin.

Is it worth the Rashford > Austin move worth -4 hit this week?

      Rest of my squad

      Pickford (Foster)
Holebas / Vert / Kelly (Williams / Amat)
Sanchez / Firmino / Sterling / Son (Cap)
      Augero / Lukakau / Rashford*

But would keep Rashford for the weekend.
We (Liverpool) cant really defend, and Klopp doesnt care as long as we score more than we concede.

His stats were pretty poor in the formation played against Bournemouth. he didn't' have a shot on goal. Those who bought early now taking the profit. Before the exodus.

He could well score again this week but signs weren't great.

99.1% accuracy, ie rising when they're predicted to. You get the odd curveball in the low 90's so anything in that range is a bit risky.

      I'm considering for -8:

      Valencia > Smith
      Baines > Mustafi
      Antonio > Tadic

Is that a bit risky? I can't see Antonio doing anything this week again Palace and the two defenders have good chances on CS'.

I took a hit for Kosc last week and it worked out well.

Only take a hit if one of these is essential to your long term strategy. Will Smith score more than Valencia long term? No way. Will Tadic score more than Antonio? no. And Antonio still has great fixtures. Will Mustafi score more than Baines? That one is a maybe. Baines has not been the same player for the last couple of years and Mustafi will score alot of bonus points because of his style.

That you have three different options suggests that you are unsure - I'd wait till the following week.

        Mane/Capoue ➡ Firmino/Snodgrass

I have to hand it to him in that he has fronted up & admitted he hasn't played well & that he is going to fight for his spot back. A lot of professional sportsmen or women wouldn't have the guts to do so & would spit the dummy or use excuses. I wasn't previously a Rooney fan but I am now.

I would respect him more if he admitted he is finished in PL/Internationals and just moved to America.

In his had he's still world class
This is just a bad run of form

I genuinely fell sorry for the guy but all that money means I can't go full sympathy. The sooner he admits it then the sooner this circus around him will end. Surely he would much prefer that than to be under constant scrutiny.

he's the captain, he's got a responsibility to be there.

He should've retired after the Euros, rather than selfishly plodding on to the detriment of the team

Changed his tune from a few weeks ago when he felt he was playing okay and felt he had nothing to prove.. he should be very grateful to be in that squad never mind a place on the bench tbh

I respect Rooneys achievements for both United and England they cannot be knocked at all and for a 7 or 8 year period he was genuinely one of the very best players in world football.. if he had shown a lot more dedication to his sport and looking after himself rather than drinking smoking eating kebabs and god knows what else maybe he wouldn't have been totally gassed by 27.. he was blessed with more natural ability than any other teenager i can think of in my time and he now resembles an amateur league footballer in every way

Hi lads - cheeky repost as it got bottomed before...

              Torn between 2 ideas:
              A) Antonio & Ibra to Sanchez & Benteke (2 FTs)
              B) Valencia, Antonio & Ibra to Bellerin, Sanchez, Austin (-4)

If I go A, it gives me no cash ITB to upgrade my awful defence. I could go B but not take a hit and wait until next week to get Bellerin?

              Current team is:
              Pickford, Foster
              Valencia, Baines, Friend, McAuley, Amat
              Antonio, Sterling, Firmino, Snodgrass, Capoue
              Ibrahimovic, Aguero, Lukaku

              Foster, Pickford
              Vertonghen, Williams, Collins, Evans, Amat
              Sanchez, Sterling, Antonio, Snodgrass, Capoue
              Aguero, Costa, Lukaku

              1FT, 0.0

              What to do?

              Collins -> Francis? Save FT?

Dont downgrade to a non playing defender, Tadic may not even be needed until a few GWs time

                Heaton Pickford
                Baines Valencia PVA Evans Amat
                Sanchez Firmino Antonio Snodgrass Capoue
                Aguero Lukaku Benteke

                £1.4m banked, 2 FTs

My first transfer will be Valencia -> Bellerin/Mustafi (still not sure, could even go Kosc but want to punt on a differential now that his price is similar to Bellerin's)
Im considering dropping Lukaku which may be mad, his yellow flag caused some tinkering and i realised that if i do i can get a very nice midfield: Lukaku + Capoue -> Austin + Walcott (£0.4m in the bank)

This would allow me to play my AOA this GW, bench Baines and field: Sanchez Firmino Walcott Antonio Snodgrass // Aguero Benteke Austin
I can then bench Austin in the next couple GWs in preperation for his fixture turn in GW11.
My only concern is that it IS Lukaku who has better fixtures than Austin in the next 2/3 but then i guess Walcott cancels it out maybe?
                Thoughts appreciated! 😀

Walcott scored, I got him in and he got an assist the next game
Firmino I had since week one and owned for both of his double digit hauls
Lamela scored, I brought him in and he scored the next game

Pretty good transfers Id say, thanks for pointing them out

Nope getting them in before they score is the key. In b4 Son enters Bubz team. Bournemouth also have a great fixture though. Maybe u will chase Wilson or Boruc points either next week. Tough choice for you.

Not Willian. The rest are all decent options at their price point.

I'm a little tempted with Redmond - stats and fixtures are great and he's cheap!

Lukaku - was on the bench for the Belgium game which implies he is available to play
Sterling - reported to be a minor injury. He had 2 weeks to recover so he should be OK too
Aguero is much more complex... see here: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2016/10/11/scout-notes-international-round-up-5/?hc_page=1#hc_comment_14254789

                A.) Mahrez & Friend -----> Alli & Vertongen

                C.) Keep Mahrez & Friend
