The Stock Check – Gameweek 26 – Sunday

Harry Kane runs riot as Spurs put four past Stoke without reply at White Hart Lane. Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to roll out a 3-4-2-1 also reignites the Fantasy potential of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli after both were subject to sales aplenty prior to Gameweek 26. Meanwhile, at Wembley it’s a tale of two strikers in the EFL Cup Final as, almost inevitably, Zlatan Ibrahimovic claims a leading role.

On the Rise

Harry Kane
The frontman turned in his most emphatic Fantasy display of the season by playing a part in all four of Spurs’ goals in a home demolition of Stoke.

With Mauricio Pochettino choosing to retain the 3-4-2-1 formation utilised against Gent in midweek, Kane banished a run of one strike in the previous four Gameweeks in style, racking up three goals and an assist.

Kane has now notched seven times in his last three home appearances ahead of next week’s visit from Everton and those who were eyeing up a swap to Sergio Aguero – should City clinch a double Gameweek 27 – may now think twice.

In saying that, Aguero would also face Stoke as well as Sunderland if City defeat Huddersfield in the FA Cup on Wednesday and the Potters’ abject defensive display looks potentially very promising for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli
The Dane banished a run of four straight league blanks by providing two assists for the third time in his last four home outings.

Shipped by more than 45,000 FPL managers last week, Eriksen had hinted at a return to form in midweek by grabbing a goal and assist in the stalemate with Gent and he maintained that momentum with an 11-point return against Mark Hughes’ men – impressively, that’s a fifth double-figure haul in his last seven at the Lane.

Sold by more FPL managers (66,000+) than any other player boasting a fixture in Gameweek 26, Alli was back in the goals, with Pochettino choosing to retain him in the first XI after his midweek moment of madness.

Alli’s strike – only a second in the last six Gameweeks – ensures that his battle with Eriksen for our midfield attentions continues to rage on, with the pair ranked third and fourth respectively in the FPL midfield standings.

With home encounters against Everton, Southampton, Watford and Bournemouth allied with trips to Burnley and Swansea City in the next seven rounds of fixtures, those who had considered parting company to cope with Spurs’ blank Gameweek 28 may now be reconsidering.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The talismanic Swede just had to have the final say in what was a compelling EFL Cup final.

His late decisive header from point blank range capped another two-goal performance and continued a bout of relentless scoring form ahead of a Gameweek 27 meeting with Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Earmarked as a likely captain for that clash, enthusiasm has since been tempered by the revelation that City and Aguero may now have two fixtures. However, Zlatan’s performance today issued another reminder that we overlook his claims at our peril.

Certainly, the 281,000 who sold the Swede ahead of Gameweek 26 will be pondering the possibility of a recall, if not for the Cherries visit, perhaps after United’s blank in Gameweek 28.

Manolo Gabbiadini
Another two predatory strikes, a third goal ruled out – it’s fair to say that any remaining doubts surrounding the Saints striker were extinguished by Sunday’s performance.

Having fired three goals in two Premier League starts, the Italian had already caught the eye of Fantasy managers.

The huge investment and transfer numbers ahead of a Gameweek 26 blank were somewhat mystifying but, following today’s Wembley showing, there will be many more managers taking the bait.

Like Ibrahimovic, Gabbiadini will suffer a blank in Gameweek 28 and will follow that with a testing trip to Spurs. However, two home fixtures with Bournemouth and Palace from Gameweek 30 provide an obvious window for investment.

We may need to pay quite a bit more for the striker by that point: Gabbiadini has already become the top transfer target ahead of Gameweek 27, collecting more than 31,000 new owners already.

In Decline

Peter Crouch
With a potential double Gameweek 27 just around the corner, Fantasy managers were hoping for signs of form from Stoke at the Lane.

Instead, we were left with little reason for optimism after the 4-0 capitulation, with Mark Hughes’ men failing to impress at either end of the pitch.

Furthermore, Crouch’s 6.1% of FPL owners were left worrying over his pitch time after he was withdrawn before the hour-mark for the second time in three Gameweeks.

Those currently retaining Crouch will surely retain his services in the likelihood of a double, but with Saido Berahino stepping up his sharpness with more minutes off the bench as the target man’s replacement, would-be suitors may be thinking twice.

Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld
Spurs will be hoping that their twelfth clean sheet of the campaign didn’t come at a cost after both defenders limped off during the second-half.

Whilst Vertonghen managed 65 minutes to claim a clean sheet, Alderweireld’s unfortunate Fantasy season continued as he limped off just three minutes after the break, earning his owners no more than a single-point return.

Optimistically, Pochettino revealed post-match that the pair were withdrawn as a precaution, boosting their chances of making next Sunday’s clash with Everton.

With Danny Rose still stuck on the sidelines, though, the defensive options are limited right now and should both Belgians fail to recover, there’s a chance that Spurs will need to revert back to a 4-2-3-1 formation, forcing us to reassess their main men once again.

What factors should be considered for predicting/expecting goals? Is SiB enough or something else is required?

There are a lot of "definite" answers to this, none that are completely true of course.

There was however an article on this last year that identified "big chances", "shots on target" and "goals scored" as the key variables. If you limit this to the last 4 fixtures, they correlate quite well with goals scored in the next matches.

        Thanks...

I was looking at Benteke's SiB in last 3 weeks and its 12 which looks high as compared to other forwards. So I was just wondering if it means he will score goals soon or some other factor is nullifying this

Well, check big chances and shots on target and see how he does. Goals scored is also important as strikers feed on confidence. You've probably played football yourself and know how you have these periods where everything you do w
works out, and other periods where you can't score no matter what you do. This is mental and getting the first goal tends to help a lot.

Morning guys. Assuming City will confirm their double this week, what would you do with this lot:

    Foster
    PVA, Baines, Alonso, Pieters
    Phillips, Sigurdsson, Mane, Coutinho, Eriksen
    Lukaku, Benteke

subs: Heaton --- Francis, Rondon, Benteke --- 2 FT, 2.2 ITB

    A) Benteke & Eriksen & Alonso >> Kun & Sterling & Fernandez
    B) Benteke & Eriksen & Alonso >> Kun & Sane & Mawson
    C) Lukaku Alonso > Kun & Stones
    D) Other, upon your request.

You listed Benteke twice. Who is the 3rd sub?

Anyways I would keep Alonso, especially if you have value tied up in him. Maybe Eriksen > fodder and Benteke > Aguero?

Hate takin hits but feel i need to .. What 2 transfers would you recommend. Alli >> Sterling looks good for Dgw but then i have 2 city who will blank. Other alternative is Alli >> Siggy and Phillips >> Snoddy ?

      Grant
      Baines Alonso Brunt
      Hazard Alii Phillips Zaha
      Aguero Kane Lukaku

      Pickford Pieters Capoue Amat

Assuming City have DGW27 I will TC Aguero. Decison already made.

Thereafter, is there any logical argument to be made for WC for 29, BB'ing the big DGW37 with time to prepare, rather than wait til the big day?

My 'logic' is that my ML rivals will take the vanilla option, and I'd prefer to a) have the points in the bag early doors and b) not be forced into doing something really stupid like TC'ing Andy F***ING Carroll (never gonna forgive him)

I am in exactly the same situation. Don't want to have the waste my TC at the bum end of the season when loads of teams are not playing for anything, or are playing for too much and rotating like crazy.

Considering 29 WC though as I have been loading up on GW28 players. I need to review the fixture list when the dust settles on the blanks.

I think the top 6 and bottom 6 will be fighting for every point with little chance of any rotation - no waste of a WC on Sanchez, Ibra, Costa, Kane etc chasing a Champions League place or avoiding the summer CL qualifier in Eastern Europe ?

As I understand, Arsenal will have two DGW's with nice fixtures, so there will probably be the option of TC'ing Sanchez later. GW37 you'll ofc want to use BB though..

Imv GW37 is a BB must, preceded by a WC in GW36.

Mainly because so many teams will have something to play for and rotation will be limited ...

1 - most DGW fixtures - likely to be big !
2 - includes many of the top 6, who are still fighting for CL places
3 - include many relegation teams fighting for survival
4 - Allows a lopsided team because there is only one game left and who cares if that is a bit dodgy
5 - real opportunity for 15 playing assets from top 6 clubs and those fighting to avoid relegation

Any other WC/BB combo is probably just knee-jerk and lack of patience

Been a bit out of the loop the last week and only started looking at my GW27/28 moves this morning

        Team currently -
        Foster / Pickford
        Alonso / Coleman / Brunt / Chambers / Pieters
        Mane / Eriksen / Alli / Phillips / Capoue
        Kane / Lukaku / Carroll

        1FT & 4.7 ITB

Currently on 7 players for GW28 but that includes doubts Phillips & Carroll.

Lukaku > Kun > Lukaku seems the smart move with Kane's form.

Currently considering these two options -

        GW27 - Lukaku > Kun
        GW28 - Kun > Lukaku & Alli > Siggy (-4) (would only have max 8 players. Pieters > Robertson worth another -4?)

        or

        GW27 - Lukaku & Alli > Kun & Sterling (-4)
        GW28 - Kun & Sterling > Lukaku & Siggy (-4)

        Any suggestions much appreciated

I prefer Mawson. On the end of Siggy's crosses, 3 goals in 6 games (3 he didn't score in were against Chelsea, Liverpool and City, even though he came very close in the Liverpool and City game). Mawson without a doubt for me

I think the DGW for City ist very realistic...

Are these trades for -4 worth???

        Costa & Phillips > Aguero & Carroll

        Jaku
        McAuley, Mori, Chambers/Robertson
        Hazard, Alli, Mané, Carroll
        Ibra, Aguero, Lukaku

        (Mannone, Chambers/Robertson, Amat, Can)

        In GW28 i have 7 players and maybe with 1 FT 8...

I wouldnt make any transfers until we see City having 2 in 27. If they move the GW28 deadline forward to the Wednesday we could all be left very red faced.

GW dates are normally set in stone from the start of the season, so doubt we'll see a change here. But that doesn't make your waiting comment any less valid.

They 100% won't move the deadline as the official site has mentioned the DGW

Providing City go through in cup, I'm currently looking something like a -8:

Alli / Stanislas / Benteke out for

            Sterling / Fletcher / Kun

How does that look? Would give me:

            Heaton

            Baines Coleman Alonso Brunt Love

            Sterling Mane Siggy Phillips Fletcher

            Kun Lukaku Kane

I have two options - thoughts please...

            A) Phillips to Sterling - I have exact money ITB and need to pull the trigger before Phillips' price falls (probably today or tomorrow - BEFORE the cup game!!)

            B) PVA & Lukaku to F. Fernandez & Aguero (for a -4) - I can hold out as none of these players' prices look like rising or falling.

It's probably the wise thing to do - means i'll have to get Sane over Sterling though, assuming that Phillips' price does fall.

If Phillips is out for more than this GW:

            a) Holebas, Phillips, Kane > Fernandez, Sane, Kun for -8
            b) Phillips, Eriksen, Costa > King/Snoddy, Sterling, Kun for -8
            c) Phillips, Costa > King/Snoddy, Kun for -4

Assuming the DGW is announced would you do the following for a one week bit of fun.

            Lallana > Arnie - 4

Means would have an additional DGW player, but the flip side is that i lose a player from 28. I also have Mane so it would be a liverpool double up.

            Cheers,

Thinking Fraser or Carroll, just to have for 28 and leave as a fodder after that. He's dropping tonight by the look and Carroll may rise but is Carroll nailed?

            Grant, Pickford
Baines, Coleman, Brunt , Alonso, Cedric
            Snodgrass, Philips, Stan, Eriksen, Alli
            Lukaku, Ibra, Kane

As it stands i have 5 certainties (Baines, Coleman, Brunt, Snoddy, Kaku) and 2 maybes (Philips& Stan) for GW 28.

1 FT and 0.1 in the bank, my plan is Eriksen to Sterling this week and then Sterling to Siggy/Mane and a 4 point hit on Cedric to Hull def or Mawson, probably quite similar to others? Should I look to take more hits?

I'm planning on taking more. At least a -8 heading into gw28 by the looks. Depends on Aguerro or not! City looking very good and Aguerro could be coming into a good run of form.

I have sell value for Lukaku of 9,8.

I am considering selling him for dgw-Aguero, and then buying him back for 10,0/10,1 for gw28? Is this very stupid?

Thats what im thinking. Have had brilliant weeks with a medium team value now, dropping anotjer 0,2-0,3 surely cant be too bad.

All right then... I guess my plan to ignore Kun and buy a big sofa wasn't a very good one. 😆

            Here's my new plan.

            Now: Kane + Alli > Aguero + Sterling -4
            Next week: Sterling > Siggy
Week after: Figure out how to get Sanchez and Kane in.

            Better?
