The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 28

Eleven goals from the three matches – a hat-trick from a midfield differential and another double-digit return from Romelu Lukaku – with Liverpool’s attack yet to feature, Gameweek 28 looks destined to punch well above its weight.

Brought in by more than 143,000 ahead of Gameweek 28, second only to Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson among midfielders, Bournemouth’s Josh King is clearly the headline act so far.

It all started disastrously for King’s legion of new owners, with the Norwegian calmly side-footing his early spot-kick wide to register a -2 deficit.

However, he was to recover spectacularly, notching only the second hat-trick by an FPL midfielder this season, only falling short of matching Alexis Sanchez’ Gameweek 14 tally of 23-points due to his early penalty miss.

Deployed in a central striker role in recent matches, King was again played in the No 10 position behind Benik Afobe but found his route to goal nonetheless.

Incredibly, he has now produced eight goals in his last seven Gameweeks and looks an assured starter and vital source of goals for the Cherries for the remainder of the season.

The fixture list may stiffen, but King’s potential to go on providing points for a price tag of just 5.5 will surely drive an instant boom in ownership.

Already more than 10,000 have made the move ahead of the Gameweek 29 home meeting with Swansea City – only Spurs’ Harry Kane has seen more transfers since today’s 2pm deadline.

The availability such a budget midfield option, potentially playing in a striker’s role, could now raise further doubts on relying on a three-man forward line.

Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini will be targeted by many once he returns to action but, arguably, with such value available in midfield, there remains a strong case for the 3-5-2.

Certainly, Lukaku looks destined to remain part of our strike force, regardless of formation. He also played a key role in ensuring that the Gameweek 28 tallies will be higher than perhaps expected.

The top captain pick, with 767,000 trusting the striker with the armband, he once again proved his new reassuring level of consistency, particularly at Goodison Park.

Scoring for the fifth consecutive home outing, Lukaku produced a seventh double-figure return and, regardless of the frenzied clamour for Kane ahead of Gameweek 29, his role in our squads surely cannot be questioned.

With three of the next five at home – against Hull City, Leicester City and Burnley – Lukaku will remain locked in and will likely challenge as a captaincy contender over those matches.

While there was disappointment, with Swansea City’s Fernando Llorente failing to provide for his 378,000 new owners having limped off with a dead leg, it seems likely that Gameweek 28 could yet supply some significant scores – particularly if the Liverpool midfield can sparkle at Anfield on Sunday.

Having been flattened by the paltry returns from Manchester City’s midweek failings, Gameweek 28 has already provided unexpected fireworks with Messrs Mane, Coutinho, and perhaps Firmino, yet to take the stage to follow King’s lead.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

For GW28, did Ibrahimovic, Defoe and Allen to Lukaku, Llorente and Antonio. 2 of them worked out well with the exception of Llorente.

Now, I've got 2 injuries in the team to think about. Anyway, just wanna find out from everyone here in light of the "When to wildcard" sticky post, why's GW30 a good time to wildcard? And why not GW29?

Issues with more than a couple of these.
What next here? Think Brunt out next..

    Pickford.
    Alonso, Funes Mori, Walker.
    Mane, Cout, Snod, Siggy.
    Lukaku, Llorente, Kane.

    Heaton, Robertson, Brunt, Whelan.

The problem with a GW30 wildcard aimed at DGWs is that 3 games later you still hate your team as the rotation, injuries and loss of form creeps in and the single game weekers continue to pile up the points 😉

Liverpool have won 9, drawn 3 and lost 1 of their games at home this season. Scored 34 goals at home which is second best in the league. This includes games against bottom half sides such as:

    Stoke: 4-1
    West Ham: 2-2
    Watford: 6-1
    Leicester: 4-1
    Swansea: 2-3
    Hull: 5-1
    Sunderland: 2-0

Burnley have not won a game away from home this season drawing 2 and losing 11. They have conceded 28 goals which is 4th worst in the league (although the teams worse than them have played a game more). This includes games against top half sides such as:

    Chelsea: 3-0
    Spurs: 2-1
    City: 2-1
    Arsenal: 2-1
    Utd: 0-0
    WBA: 4-0
    Stoke: 2-0

Burnley won the reverse fixture 2-0.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It points to a comfortable Liverpool win, but the way this season has gone Burnley will probably draw 0-0.

Well, Kun > Gabbiadini or Defoe would finance Amat and Francis > two quality defenders, maybe Valencia and Walker. You'd want to move Phillips on to, obviously, maybe for Pedro? 4 transfers would make your team look a lot better.

But then again, if you had a wildcard you could do a more major overhaul. What would you do?

Who should be the higher priority transfer for GW 29, Kane or Sanchez? I can't get them both now without taking a -8 hit.

On one side Kane is in red hot form, on the other hand, WBA and Pulis got their 40 points milestone so they've pretty much given up. Both of them can haul big.

Heavy on the City-Liverpool game there! Can pay off, but I hope not as my ML rival has 6 players from that game aswell.

Maybe Aguero to Kane then Barnes to Gabbaddiai next? Then somehow get Sanchez in for gw31?

That was my plan. Getting in Kane, Gabbi, Sanchez and a cheap fifth midfielder instead of Kane, Barnes, Sane and Coutinho.
I just can't decide which transfers hold the highest priority. I'll probably go with Kane although i'm terrified of going Sanchezless even for 2 weeks..

Getting out Aguero and Mané for a -8 would be madness.

    Thoughts on Morgan for 4.7?

Leicester haven't kept many CS but look much better now, have good fix + dgw and a reason to play (fighting relegation).

He also has knack for scoring a bunch of goals at the end of the season.

Don't have the extra 0.5 for Fuchs, need a defender for under 4.7 that isn't from Saints.

Leicester do look like an option again, just gonna give it 1 more week before considering personally.

Defoe has good fixtures until the end of the season. Recent form poor, but they have had tough fixtures so explainable.

Who's selling him? He's third most transferred in player so far.

    A. Carroll
    B. Llorente

Carrol but get Antonio, hammers have good fixtures

See how Llorente is first. If both were fit I'd look to move on Llorente

In the same boat, with the dead leg and owning Siggy I am thinking of shifting Llorente. Though (bou) I believe is better fixture than (LEI)... Will have to wait for goalscoring odds also.

What's the best option with this team?

    Heaton Jaku
    Alonso Brunt Valencia Chambers Robertson
    Mane Antonio Fraser Sterling T.carrol
    Kane Lukaku Llorente
    7.7itb 1ft

    A Fraser > Sanchez
    B A plus Brunt > Vertonghen -4
    C A plus Llorente > Gabbiadini

More like missed most of his hauls. This GW and last GW. Will he haul from now until the end of the season? PLus no DGW.

    What next here?

    Foster - Jakupovic
    Alonso - Baines - Brunt - Amat - Lenihan
    Mane - Sigurdsson - Lanzini - King - Carrick
    Aguero - Kane - Lukaku

1 FT and 3.2m in the bank.

Nothing pressing, so tempting to save.
Brunt's usefulness looks to be at an end so could upgrade to Valencia or Walker.
I would save and switch Kun/King for Sanchez and budget forward (Defoe/Gabbiadini) next week
